Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

I'm also in the 'carrying a boulder instead of a baby' gang - my back is really starting to notice the strain. I think I've now put on just over 2 stone, which for tiny little me is a hell of a lot as it now means I weigh nearly 8.5 stone. That may not sound like a lot, but when you consider I've put 1/3 of my body weight on, it's no wonder I fell out of the back door when I leaned over a little too far recently!

I have now officially tried every old wives tale to encourage baby to make an appearance, and am disappointed to say it's made no difference at all. Azaduhi - I'm also finding 'marital relations' quite painful, so they are extremely few and far between.

I've been producing colostrum for the past few months now. Am hoping this means I will be able to BF this time around.

Off to a funeral tomorrow - DH's uncle was found dead in the bath a couple of weeks ago, and it transpires he was in there for about 8 days before he was found - all rather gruesome .

Best wishes Pazza for tomorrow. Night night all.

Oh my goodness Azaduhi I never thought I'd squeeze my nipples because another woman told me to! Lol. Though now I am now shocked (and pleased) to discover that I am producing colostrum! I'd had tiny bits on my bra and pyjamas before but I didn't know I could actually produce it, I feel like a cow! I really shouldn't be this shocked... Thanks for the tip.

I've just had a fun time noseying through all the new profiles. I've joined in too, mine should now be working. A bit over the top on photos of me and DP, I do apologise (but he'll be here in 6 days! )

mumofk what a gorgeous name. I am heartened by the fact you didn't have the final name on your mental list. Perhaps all is not lost names wise if this LO is a girl, I just have no idea.

pinacolada yes heartburn features prominently on my list of complaints too! Good old gaviscon helps a wee bit as does fennel tea for me. I might try your duvet idea, sounds good. I currently have 3 pillows under my head, 2 small ones either side of my bump for rolling about and one between my legs, no idea where DP is going to fit when he gets here, no room in my bed any more! Oh, and so glad your DD is behaving better

GCG I'm with you for the funny loud digestive noises, I get some really odd deep noises too. What a lovely soundtrack LO must have! I've also got a rock hard bump at the moment, it's just massive and so cumbersome.

Ooh asicsgirl, what were you doing in Chengdu? I lived in Qingdao, Shandong province for a year 2004-5 and just recently I was living in Kunming, Yunnan province for 6 months (was meant to be a year but lack of good healthcare brought me home). I've also spent about 4 months travelling about China and lived in Taichung in Taiwan in the Summer of 2006. Always a constant battle with the MSG, shamefully the last few months I was there I stopped eating Chinese food altogether and stayed in my wee flat cooking Western food!

YCBS and azaduhi I'm not sure I can even speak to you with your tiny weight gain!! I'm with you blobsmum and have put on a third of my body weight which for me is over 3 stone, aaaah! Though actually it's not really anywhere but my bump, luckily not ballooned too much elsewhere.

I'm amazed at your story YCBS, I can't imagine trying to get my head around being pregnant at that stage, what a useless bunch of doctors you must have seen! I only found out I was pregnant because I happened to be in hospital anyway as DP was on a drip (and it was his birthday poor thing) after severe food poisoning. I was just constantly feeling queasy, so went to get checked out to kill the time though if I hadn't been there I probably wouldn't have bothered for a good while. It took me ages to believe them too, especially with the language barrier, I kept saying "No, you don't understand, I'm on the pill, it's a kind of Western medicine..." Eventually they gave me an ultrasound to convince me!

Tired today. I was at a local wedding last night so had to have the same conversations hundreds of times and just felt like I was in everyone's way (actually I think I was!) I came home at one-ish but there were partygoers floating back into the house til 6ish. I've had a houseful of hangovers today so feel like I've been constantly cooking and making tea, thankfully only a few stragglers left now (just got rid of one local lad who wondered out the garage mid-afternoon, no one knew he'd been asleep in there!) and I've just been ignoring them. I hope everyone's doing alright. It's so exciting now, I keep coming on here to check no one else has had an early arrival! Good luck pazza! Night all

Just calling in from Insomnia Central...

blobsmummy what a shock that must have been for your DH. hope the funeral goes off OK.

Baiyu wow you have been around a bit! In China/ Taiwan, I mean... I studied in Chengdu for 9 months on a postgrad scholarship. Great experience! Had a short holiday to Lijiang, Dali, Kunming while I was there - amazing places. Qingdao - is that where the beer comes from? Have you been watching Chinese School? I haven't been back to China since leaving in 1990 and friends who've been back to Chengdu say it's changed beyond recognition. But watching Chinese School it seems clear that more small-town/ rural life hasn't changed much at all since I was there... What were you doing out there?

Oh and to all the nipple-squeezers out there - no colostrum for me yet, but I didn't have any before giving birth last time either, and DS breastfed just fine so it's not obligatory

p.s. in my insomniac phases I've been reading a book I really recommend, 'parenting made difficult' by Phil Hogan. About life with 4 sons. Makes me snort with laughter. I went to have a look for his stuff on line and there are a few extracts here - just thought it might amuse some of you in a dull moment

Top of the morning to you girlie's and a beautiful day its as well in sunny Cardiff (For the moment!)

Baiyu I just wanted to say that your DP looks really familiar where did he go to school?? anywhere in the somerset/dorset area ? xx

I'm part of the massive bump brigade but im not due until 24th may so still a looooooooong time to go !!

Also just thought that i would add i had colostrum with DD and wasn't able to feed her! I have also had it this time and am really hoping that i will be able to feed this one !! so fingers crossed for all of us hoping to BF this time

I know that this will sound realy silly but is RL total safe to take? i bought some this weekend but for some reason feel like i should take it in case it the baba has a reaction to it or something, dose that sound totally mad !!!

SPD and general pain suffers i am having loads of pain in my pelvic bone, it feels like its going to break in two when i get up or walk around for to long. Very uncomfortable but im hoping that it won't affect the birth dose anyone know if it get worse when you deliver??

Pazza Good luck girlie xxx

Hi all

Just checking in really. Been trying to catch up with this thread but it moves a bit fast for me at the moment! Was rudely woken this morning by argos delivery which wasn't supposed to arrive until between 10am-2pm so I wasn't that impressed at being dragged out of bed but it's wardrobes for the baby's room so I'm happy about that as now I can fill it with little babygros etc (once dh puts it together)!

Congrats on the new arrivals - MumofK I really like the name Jasmine, it was one of my top 2 names for a girl. JBR & Podglet - your little girls are gorgeous!

Been spending my time redecorating the nursery and trying to get everything ready.

Re the milk leaking, mine have been leaking since 19 weeks so I'm quite jealous of those that haven't had much or anything - wasn't much to start with but I'm having to use breast pads now!

And as for the washing up I don't think I could live without our dishwasher, I hate doing the washing up even when I'm not pregnant!

Hello all

Hope you're all well and in good spirits.

Love the profile pics - everyone looks great!

Amazed by YCBS' undiagnosed pregnancy story - I can't believe they actually thought you had a tumour!! Poor you. Must have been incredibly stressful.

Best of luck to Pazza today - what an exciting day for you! By the end of the day, you'll be cuddling your lovely little babies. Awww.

Pina - best wishes for you consultant appointment today. I'd be interested to know what they say.

I had a really down day yesterday. Had a row with dh on Friday night and things have been frosty ever since. I just can't handle it at the moment. I feel like I need his love more than ever and hate it when we argue. Spent a lot of the evening in tears . I feel a bit better this morning, though.

asicsgirl - I love Phil Hogan. He writes for the Observer magazine (or certainly used to) about his family life and it's always hilarious. I didn't realise he had written a book. I'll try to track it down.

Anyway, wishing everyone a happy day....and relief from all those horrible late pregnancy symptoms.

Pazza might have her babies already (ok maybe its still a bit early yet) how exciting, im realy really jealous

Kangaandroo - good to hear that you're ok! dont fade away!!

asics - ah the day of dance!! we have a lot of random things on like that (I dont mind tourists, its just when they all walk so slowly that I. Godzilla, can in my current state overtake them) have you been across for the saltaure festival in september? they have a lot of stuff for LOs have a look here

Baiyu - wow - how many people? and you're making the tea? i am in awe!

pregnabrain - sorry to hear that your having a rubbish time, sending you hugs and hope you're feeling better

SPD sufferers! you poor loves! much sympathy - drinks on me at the virtual bar (purely for medicinal purposes - ahem)

rock like bump group - can i join? i have 3 weeks (exactly) till EDD and I cant work out how it will all fit, we're rock solid

colostrum - i havent got any - feel like i'm missing out! I did get DP started on the nipple twidding yesterday but we both got bored very quickly.. might dig out the breast pump we bought and give that a shot...

Whenever i come on here i feel a little ashamed of how lazy i have been, conpaired with you super-mum lot (think i'm a slummy mummy to be) so I have been very organised and planned lots of things to do this week (hoping it will work like mumofk's meal) however this new positive pro-active do things attitude has already injured me, I burnt my arm on the kettle yesterday and it bloody hurts. I was trying to get something from behind the kettle so held my arm over the hot steam. so now i am savalon central and all bandaged... bugger.

Hallo again!

sweetbean thanks for the updated birth list. Exciting! Sending you really positive vibes for breastfeeding this time round. You probably know this but there's a whole section on MN dedicated to feeding issues and some very knowledgeable people on there, so if you do have any Qs or problems it would be really worth asking on there. x

pregnabrain sorry to hear about the row with DH. Hope the atmosphere improves soon. There's such a lot of stress around at this time isn't there. Big hug x

oh and the Phil Hogan book that I've been reading is a collection of his Observer columns. Don't know what the one on the website is though!

otter Saltaire festival looks great! thanks for that, I didn't know about it. Will try and get over this year x

Finally got a couple of hours sleep once DP had got up so I could stretch out diagonally across the bed! DP and DS have gone to mini-Science museum in Halifax, 'Eureka' - rather them than me... So I am waiting for my mum and stepdad to vacate the house so I can, er, clean out the kitchen cupboard... I know, nesting...

Have a good day everyone x x x

azaduhi I had to give up sex at 32 weeks with DD cos of my SPD, but luckily this time, I don't seem to be suffering as much at all. Managed a bit more 'how's your father' last night . DH and I both pleasantly suprised at how enjoyable it has been for one so heavily pregnant .

blobsmummy How awful about DH's uncle. I hope the funeral goes OK, speaking from personal experience of going to a funeral whilst heavily pregnant.

Baiyu I loved your photos .

sweetbean re: SPD in labour, in theory, yes it would aggravate it, due to the size of the head stretching the pelvis even more than normal etc etc. Having said that, I had awful SPD with DD, yet I genuinelly don't recall any SPD pain when I was in labour with her, so it doesn't necessarily mean you will suffer. I just had raging back (sacroiliac) pain, but DD was back to back.

pregnabrain Hope you sort things out with DH .

Well, I THINK I had my 'show' this morning, TMI ALERT Basically a blob of bloody-mucusy-gel which I found in my pants (obviously, as if I would find it in the fridge !) Surely that's a show??? Nothing at all since, but has defintiely cheered me up as it should at least happen within the next few days at least.
DD at CM all afternoon so DH and I are going to the cinema. I figure if we carry on as normal as possible things are more likely to happen.....hopefully.

GCG how exciting! Definitely sounds like a show hey. Excellent! Look forward to an update. Have to say I'm a bit ... feel like I'm just hanging around now waiting. I need to fill my day with productive activities to take my mind off it, and stop surfing...

sweetbean i know what you mean about the scary 'lactivists'... but these threads often also have good advice about people you can contact to get RL support e.g. nct breastfeeding counsellors who you can talk to on the phone or get to come round and help you. Hoping of course that you won't need the help but I personally think there's quite a lot of info about bf that makes it all sound like it's going to be a breeze, whereas in fact a lot of women find it quite difficult. I'm all in favour of trying to encourage people to bf but there has to be more recognition that women need proper support to get it going and to keep going.
