Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

Hello, everybody. Back home safe and sound with the most wonderful baby boy, Alex. He was born by c-section on Tuesday morning at 36 weeks plus 2. Weighed 5lbs 13 and a half ounces and no need for a neo-natal cot. We all got home on Fri and have been doing the baby thing ever since. Thanks for all your good wishes when I went in. The staff at the maternity unit were fabulous from day 1 and I've made some great friends, other long stay mums-to-be.

I couldn't read through all the missed pages but I hope you are all well and I'll eventually get to find out who has already had their babies.

As hoped, God was definitely in control and looked after me and baby every step of the way!

Phew - so glad you're off to St Thomas' !!! I've got a friend due in 4 weeks going there and she's been so happy with the care she's got. Watford is hell on earth!!

Emergency section first time, then normal, uncomplicated delivery with dd.

So bascially I've "proved" my scar - I can deliver normally - but I'm still high risk

Incidentally the risk of scar rupture after a section is 0.5%, that increases to just 0.7% after another section. Having said that the risks for a woman who's never had a section to have other complications are just as high if not higher:

Placental abruption 1:100
cord prolapse 1:100
placenta praevia 1:200

I can't find any studies on inductions after a sectios, but it seems to be a biiiiiiiig no no!

I'd rather I was allowed to go 2 weeks overdue, rather than the hospital staff hopping around clock watching and insisting I have to have this baby by a certain date. Normal pregnancies can last beyond 42 weeks, but drs etc seem to forget that

Maybe it could be the new alternative to perineal massage?

Meant to add YCBS - have we had the Hemel conversation already?? I lived there for 5 years, but I've been back home in Scotland now for 3 years. Had ds in Watford, Hemel maternity unit had just closed. I think it's reopened and closed a million times in the last 3 years. You're not going to Watford are you?

Pinacolada - no - I'm not allowed an induction because of the increased risk of scar rupture and that can be v dangerous. An induction tends to bring contractions on hard and fast rather than having a gradual build up and it can put too much strain on a section scar. Also far more likely to lead to other kinds of intervention like forceps/ventouse/episiotomy etc - no thanks!

So it's spontaneous labour or a section, or I just hang on to this baby until s/he's about 9 and finally comes out wearing school uniform and reading

Hi all,

Trying to catch up...

GCG - oooh, how exciting, hope it all starts soon for you. Looking at the list, you are due on Friday, which would have been my due date too hoping o hear news soon.

Sorry to hear some of you are really suffering with late pg pains and aches and general nasties. Although I didn't get to full term with either of mine, because of my bump size I had all the same things. It sucks but this is the final hurdle...

Bobsmum - lots of birth vibes for you

I think DD has a "oooh, is mummy doing something exciting?" bone - she has just woken up

Lots of labour inducing thoughts for you all and can't wait to hear Pazza's news.

3 days overdue today.

Sweep on Friday.

If that doesn't work then it's a section for me

Really don't think I can cope with a section again - it was v v grim

So good vibes etc for a normal delivery would be great!

On the plus side the lounge is finished - will post some before and after photos I think - big transformation even if it meant another weekend going round the shops in a wheelchair

All the best everyone - esp Pazza

GCG - OMG I hope that wasnt just b4 she had DS - i know they arnt normally bothered what you look like but think that would have made them do a double take.

Re the old BD, I think the infection thing is once your waters have broken rather than the show that would restrict your activities. So on that note get to it. The other thing some of the April ladies have been doing is shoving evening primrose capsules up their fanjo's - apparently supposed to help ripen the cervix - not sure i'd fancy myself but easier than 7 pinapples eh.

pinacolada Firstly, you just made me realise maybe it was all the RLT capsules I've been taking that made me constipated although pleased to say all fine in that dept now .
Sorry your hosp appt didn't go exactly as planned, and that you have to wait 2 more weeks, but chances are you will go into natural labour before that and then still get your section???

YCBS My fave subject , SPD is basically pain at the front of the pelvis, where your pubic bones meet i.e. right where your pubes are....if you have any !!! Sorry, just reminded me of one of my BF's who went for a 'tidy up' wax and totally without her consent got a 'hollywood', which is totally bald....she had specifically said she didn't want it when asked and the woman just did it anyway !!!!! Made us chuckle. (Denny if you are reading this, it was Em!!!!)

Been to the cinema, saw 'three and out'. It was OK, nothing amazing, killed a bit of time.

No other symptoms to report .

Whoever suggested more sex, not sure we should if 'the plug' has come out re:infection, anyone know???

Think I will just get the mattress out for the baby's crib....just in case....
