Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

Morning all!

otter so sorry to hear about the shower fiasco - can totally understand your reaction! People not showing up when scheduled is one of those things that drives me insane even when not pg and hormonal... poor you.

GCG eyelash tints, facials... You have to start a profile, I am imagining you as this perfectly turned-out SJP of a woman, sleek from swimming... feeling quite frumpy by comparison! At least I know your dark secrets, heh.

Bigbadmouse hooray to no depression! that's great. Long may it continue. Sorry about the name - at DH for spilling the beans - I'm sure we'd have had the same reaction if we'd told our parents the name we were planning for DS, and we did get a few raised eyebrows, but they love it now. Good luck finding an alternative, can I recommend this site as you can search by all sorts of different criteria and even see what people who have a name think of it!. Love this one too for seeing how popularity of names has changed over the years. LOL re hobnobs btw.

Baiyu - I shoudl know this but didn't keep up with thread much earlier on - where were you living in China? I lived in Chengdu for a few months back in 89 (showing my age now). Thanks for answering the Q about MSG - I completely forgot - I remember trying to ask for it not to be put in restaurant food and being told 'It doesn't taste good if you don't put it in!'

mumofk thanks for the update! Well done on so little G&A! YOu have the right to preen, indeed. Glad the Hudds midwives were good. Stay on your planet for as long as you can love the name btw.

Well I had a day of feeling really excited and silly yesterday - weird. Had the runs and felt sick, but more like when you have a really hot date lined up and you have to go to the loo every 5 mins? Lots of BH too... Similar today tho' fewer BH. Who knows if anything is going on but it's making me cheerful , whatever...

otter1980 · 26/04/2008 17:10

shower man has been!!! we have shower, and house is tidy (otter started cleaning like a maniac, DP joined in reluctantly..) am now happy for baby to arrive... sods law that shes got comfortable where she is and isnt going anywhere...

mumofk&j i love the name jasmine! good to hear you're all doing well xx

magicfairy yay re your ebay wins, very impressed with your plan to give up TV!!

GCG poor you, forced to have free beauty treatments!! how will you cope

BBmouse at your DH about the name, we has a nightmare trying to find names we agree on and DP can sod off if he things hes changing it now! bad news re roads too, set off as soon as you get a twinge!! (ooo if you're lucky you might get a police escort like in the movies...)

duchess lo re fed up with 4 weeks to go, know how you feel, i seem to vary between wanting her out and wanting her in and safe...

blobsmummy good news re your BP, I have to say the boob fiddling has me a bit confused, i think i'll be saving it for desperate measures, dont really want sore nips...

bobsmum sending "come out baby vibes"

pregnabrain good news re movement, Ive had a panic trip to hospital at 27 weeks, we got ok, got back into the car and I spent all evening getting beaten from the inside, DP said i deserved it...

baiyu how crap for your friend, at her mum though! at least she has got to spend a little time with her LO's this weekend though.

pina you are good on the list, i keep thinking i'll have a go but i think i'll bugger it up somehow... thanks!

asics ooooo exciting!! fingerts crossed that its the start of something (although that means I'm the only west yorks girl stil waiting doesnt it?)

virtual bar now also stocks carrot cake and snowballs... we are also widening our range to include all cocktails with pineapple juice in them have a look here

asicsgirl · 26/04/2008 18:40

Otter I didn't realise you were west yorks too... that's what comes of not reading the thread very carefully! Whereabouts? Glad to hear shower is in and house is clean (cue sardonic comment from midwife about how it's really important to the baby that everything is clean and tidy... why do people think this is such a great joke? )

Re. boob fiddling - apparently the study that reported nipple stimulation as getting labour going only showed an effect for women doing it for THREE HOURS every day!! I know we may have a bit more time on our hands on ML but really...

Love the pineapple juice cocktails idea! Mine's a zombie... Chin chin!

I still feel roughly the same, so it may be I was just getting excitable yesterday... ho hum. However my Mum has now arrived so bub is now officially allowed to appear

goodcatholicgirl · 26/04/2008 20:00

asicsgirl I did a profile about a year ago, but it seems to have disappeared. I will try and do another one, though not sure I want you all to see what I look like....you may be bitterly disappointed.....

otter1980 Yay that the shower man has been!!! I feel the same as you, OK baby, the house is all ready....I feel like the good witch on the wizard of Oz after the bad witch dies under the house, saying to the munchkins....."It's OK...you can come out now!!"

Had an OK day. Weather was gorgeous. I spent 10 mins in the garden with DD bouncing her up and down on the birthing ball in a 'space hopper' stylee, and since then my back has been killing me.....should know better really huh?!

Had to go to nephew's 8th birthday party. Home now and ready to chill in front of the tv.

BTW, just wondered how many people, if any, had started getting any colostrum??? I'm sure I didn't get any before birth with DD, but it seems weird now that I've had none, and then it will magically appear when I need to BF lo when he/she is born.

Very quiet on here today, I hope that means yo uhave all enjoyed the sunshine .

congratulations to mumofk!!!
thank you to everyone who asked after my mum, she is out of hospital now, and we will have to go up and see the family, but it is about 4 and a half hours from us here in hampshire, and i don't really want Isla to be in a car seat that long, so we'll have to do two stints and a nice long break in between.
just been looking at your pictures on your profile GCG - DD is so pretty! I have put Isla on my profile pictures now, finally. So impressed at you podgelet, going to the zoo, I think i am doing well when i go for a walk it will be months before i am fit!!!
right i am off to check out the post natal thread for May 2008 that Flick set up!!! see you all on there!!! (and on here as well, of course)

just did a profile aswell, i am not realy photogenic therefore haven't got nice pics saved on pc.

i probably had the most busyest day for the past 4 months today.

woke up early and went with dd and a friend to her sisters, which is an hours drive away. (had my notes with me just in case)

friend got 1 kid and her sister has 4 and with dd it was 6 kids between 7 years and 1 1/2 years going all mad in the house and back garden, dropping food and drinks on the floor, argueing, etc., they never do behave and do what they want to do (lack of boundaries and rules which their mom admits)my friend and her sister just couldn't cope with those demanding, stressful kids just called them naughty and get on with it, so i jumped in and as it's my profession
(studied Child Care) i made clear rules and dealt with a two year old having a tantrum because he wasn't getting it his way, until he and the others where somehow playing properly, taking turns and not hurting eachother.
trust me they where going mad, but i was full of energy today again and was happy to deal with those 6 kids issues, made them all tidy up together after the playroom looked like a bomb exploded so that all the adults where impressed and thought i have magical powers.

we then went to a massive playground with 6 kids and they all had a great time their.
only downside is playground is normally 15 mins walk but with me highly pregnant the journey lasted much longer, on the way back i was sooo knackered that my friend tried to give me a piggybank as my legs were killing me but impossible of course so had to walk back.
the older kids where coping my walking and my friends had a laught saying i walk like a duck really funny haha.
anyway they where glad i didn't went into labour today as at some point they thought i would as i've been soo busy.

i feel great exausted now but it's nice to have so much energy in the last 3 days to actually do things and deal with normal things.
was lovely to see dd playing with her friends all day, dd was soo tired that she fell asleep on the way back in the car.
well we wnet this morning at 10am and came back at 9pm. long day but really nice.
