Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

otter1980 · 24/04/2008 14:12

mumofk - wish i'd thought of that with the wee pots... damn good idea, glad you had a lie-in, hopefully you will be so distracted that you dont pay too much attention the the visa bill... plus its likely to be a while before you get the chance to do 6 meals in 2 weeks again! any updates on your twinges?

Flick - hiya - good to hear from you, hope alls going well...

pina - i try and do the same with my posts, however im sure i miss half of it and i end up going through and deleting things

asics - know what you mean about addictive, i seem to be magnetically linked to the computer...nothing brewing here, I seems to be uncomfortable and having odd contractions and then it all stops.. i think DP is sending the bean "stay where you are" vibes... or she has though better of coming out as i told DP that he might have to work on his supportive act (he said i walked like godzilla) and he started football chanting my name. I pointed out that the MWs will at least have a laugh when we're in labour.. poor kid!!

asicsgirl · 24/04/2008 14:38

otter yeah it can all take a while the first time round I think. I remember lots of stopping and starting of contractions. I guess get as much rest as possible now... I'm having lots of BH particularly when walking around but that's it. Bub is kicking me all over today too, maybe he liked the Thai food, heh. LOL at 'walking like godzilla', cheek!

flick nice to hear from you. Hope you get some sleep soon...

mumofk really glad you are settling into your little holiday. Make the most of it hey!

JackBlackRoady · 24/04/2008 15:20

hi all, wow billions of posts since i was last on! i am pleased my RL friend debithescot popped in to say hello to you all, i've been a bit rubbish

podgelet - i know what you mean, i want there to be more of us so we can have a postnatal thread, don't really want to join the April ppl as i don't know them!

having said that, my troubles at the moment are nothing to do with me or the baby... i feel for mumblesmummy at the moment, my mum has had another stroke after her brain surgery last year, so there is no chance of her and my dad getting down from yorkshire, so we'll have to go up, but Isla is so small, and the house is still a state... dammit

anyway, congratulations to podglet and missvicki and come on more babies!!!

lots of love, JBR xxx

Denny185 · 24/04/2008 16:22

GCG - Dh and i just pissed ourselves laughing at the thought of you falling in robonans grave - images of a beetle stuck on back with legs kicking.

Thanks 4 the tip will duly make way to FPC.

......................closes door quietly on way out

Mitchell81 · 24/04/2008 16:54

JBR: Sorry to hear that your mom is unwell again. Hopefully you have a chance to get to Yorkshire soon, How far is that away from you? Glad things are going well with you and Isla

goodcatholicgirl · 24/04/2008 18:56

JBR Nice to hear from you and glad things are going so well with Isla, but I am very sorry to hear about your Mum being unwell. I hope you can get to see her without too many problems.

pinacolada My first labour was quite '0-60 in 10 seconds' too, which is good in a way, cos when I get fed up that nothing is happening, I remember that with DD I had a very normal day, and then evening where I had no clue that anything was gonna happen til I got into bed and waters broke. The only thing I remember noticing is that baby was very active that evening, kicking LOTS, so now, if baby is active, I get excited!

Well hopefully my sister won't now have to go to Europe next week so we should be OK for childcare now when things start. She was just very honest at work and said she was needed for me and that I had no-one else to ask!!! Bless her.

Well, I had a very strange MIL experience today. We haven't seen them (her and DH's massive family) for 3 weeks, and DH left a couple of msgs on her phone but she didn't phone back, so I just assumed that she had the hump with us (often happens). I decided to try and earn some brownie points so I rang her to see what day off she was having next week so she could come for lunch (what an arse licker !!). Anyway, most unlike her and really out of character, SHE ended up apologising to ME that they hadn't seen us for so long, rung us, esp since death of Robonan, and she was in such a state about not having seen DD for so long, thinks DD will have forgotten who she is etc etc....she only ended up CRYING down the phone to me!!! (This is MOST unlike her) and telling me that when baby comes she will be here like a shot, and how family is soooo important blah blah blah. I was just in shock afterwards!!!

I posted on 'chat' about senokot and it would seem it's fine to take in pgy.

Right, better get that dinner on the go....

Won't be long before we can get a post natal thread going I'm sure. I think each thread can only take 1000 messages and we are on no 833 at the moment so we may have to start a new one soon anyway.

Niknak21 · 24/04/2008 19:02

Hi

I wanted to join you all, but it's taken a while to work out how, and then nearly 2 weeks to plough through this thread.

I'm due 16th May but fully expecting to be late as was with DS (2.5yrs). Was induced at 12 days with him and am planning to let nature take it's course this time so I can go into the midwife led unit. Where I'm hoping the after care will be a bit more sympathetic.

Would love to pop early as I have my bro's wedding on the 25th of May. I've waited a long time for it and I don't want to miss it. I like to think the worst so it coming with time for me to recover would be a bonus.

thefortbuilder · 24/04/2008 19:04

for anyone that has popped already if you're checking in, i've started a may 2008 post natal club, so we can all keep in touch even if we join the ones for the month we officially belong to now!

niknak21 welcome and I hope your baby beahves itself and comes early to enable you to go to your brother's wedding!!! No pressure!!

asicsgirl · 24/04/2008 19:51

JBR nice to hear from you - sorry your mum is ill again. Hope it won't be too stressful going up to see them.

GCG, I was so sure that senokot was not ok in pg, sorry if I misled you! i've just done a web search as I was so mystified... there are a couple of sites that say senna in late stages of pg can cause uterine contractions, so I guess I must have come up against one of those when I was searching however long ago it was. There are (as you say) also plenty of sites that say that Senokot is ok in pg so good luck! Hope it solves the problem x

at your MIL behaviour! Very weird. It's somewhat familiar to me as my MIL is very unpredictable in her moods, and can be sweet and conciliatory one day and p'd off and angry about the same issue the next. At least she is being nice now hey!

Welcome niknak21! Hope the bub synchronises diaries with you

Well I've had a day of people going to me 'When are you due? Oh well you're still carrying high aren't you?' implying that bub is not ready to come out yet Got a bit despondent thinking I might be hanging around for ages after all. DP said 'Did the MW say that to you?' - no, in fact the MW booked my 40 week appointment and said 'I hope we won't be seeing you then, for a nice reason!'. So I'm trying to stay positive... Nice to read GCG that your labour starting off was preceded by lots of kicking as bub has been kicking and wriggling like crazy today...

goodcatholicgirl · 24/04/2008 20:13

asicsgirl you haven't misled me at all. DH just asked at pharmacy and they wouldn't let him buy it for me, just told me take Fybogel, which they didn't have in stock . However, lots of people have said it IS ok to take, and if the only risk is early labour......BRING IT ON!!!!! (bet you'll all be buying some soon ).

Hope your bubba kicking is a good sign that he or she is making their 'journey south'!!!

GCG at least I wasn't going completely mad then - phew! Have had several 'pregnabrain' incidents today and a bit worried that I should not be operating heavy machinery, never mind dispensing 'wisdom' on MN... IME Fybogel is rubbish, doesn't work, and is really horrible to take - like trying to drink wallpaper paste - so I'd stick to the Lactulose if I were you at least it goes down quickly!

pina so sorry to hear DD has been worse today . Do nursery do 'chats' with the kids too? I find the three-pronged attack of daddy, mummy and nursery keyworker all saying the same thing seems to lead to things sinking in a bit better... Good luck.

Do you think everyone is watching Heroes? I'm taping it 'cos DP is out at a meeting and we always watch it together. It's taken all my willpower not to watch it tho'... My reward will be in Devon, no doubt.

niknak21- welcome you due on the same day as me, i was i week overdue with dd aswell last time around but i don't think it means anything as every pregnancy is different and due date are just a guide anyway. good luck too you lets see who pops first..lol

can't remember anyone elses post that i wanted to comment on at the moment. sorry ladies

no big changes or events in my case, got an appointment with physio because of my mild SPD on the 1st may and have to book antenatal appointment next week.

i am 37 weeks tomorrow- 3 weeks to go but feels weird, doesn't it can't imagine beeing not pregnant , so even do i want this baby out asap i can't imagine it happening.

Birth announcement- baby girl born 6am at home, feeding as I type. All startedwhen I got in from meal with the girls at 11 pm. hypnobirthing and gas and air, no stitches and quite tidy in terms of washing too!
no name yet, 8lb 8 oz.

magicfairy · 25/04/2008 08:14

Hi all, I had a weird day yesterday. woke with such an achey bump and back, felt a little better for crawling and letting it hang, but it stayed all day, with full on braxton hicks too, then i got the poops and the was sick a couple of times! Felt really awful by the evening and had convinced myself that i was going into labour. But had a lavender bath and couple of paracetamol and a good nights sleep (i dont know how as I havent had one of those for a while) and now feel fine, well still heavy and achey but not like yesterday.

I suddenly realised that although this is my second pregnancy, last time i was induced as i had meconium in my waters, so i dont actually know what the build up of contractions feels like. Half of me was hoping that bubs would come out, but then both grandparents are on holiday at the mo and we all have to go to Devon on Saturday, from Cornwall, so i could really do with it staying put just until my mum gets home next week anyway!

Swimming with DS and his friends this morning, cant wait to immerse myself in the pool, could probably do without the workout DS gives me by jumping in all the time!

GCG - imo lactulose is horrible stuff that doesnt work and makes heartburn even worse, i found linseed to be the best thing ever. You can buy it in tesco, i think the brand is linsuit and i just mix 3 teaspoons with a yogurt and eat it, the next day hey presto!

Sorry i cant remember replies to anyone else and i have just smelt Ds as he has ran past me being a lorry!! Gotta go

magicfairy · 25/04/2008 08:16
