Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

Casserole wahay! So the back ache was a sign of things getting going. Great stuff. Good luck!

YCBS - so sorry to hear about your friend's pg. How awful. Agree with Pina that you aren't being selfish; what other reaction could you possibly have at this stage. Hug x

pregnabrain, pina - good luck for those consultant appointments. Pina - poor you re. DD's behaviour. I think sweetbean has a point - several friends of mine who are due soon are reporting changes in their DCs' behaviour (super-clingy, naughtier, etc). For some of them it seems to be 'understanding' something about what is coming - for others (the younger ones) it seems like it's probably more to do with changes in the routine e.g. Mummy being off work and doing lots of decorating all of a sudden . So I agree it's probably worth having a chat with her. Hope it gets better soon!

Re. Sample pots - I could never aim straight enough to get much in them before pg, never mind now . Methinks this may be linked to ladygarden issues though

Mitchell81 thanks for posting the list again. How is your back now? Sorry if I missed an update.

Magicfairy good luck for the midwife led unit. I had DS in our local one and it was fab.

Welcome horseshoe! Sweetbean glad the funeral went off OK. Sounds like a tiring day. Lucky you re. DP and sex in the morning! best time of day. Unfortunately my DP is snoring away at the moment, which is why I'm here...

bobsmum well done for braving the IKEA sale! You're a stronger woman than I am, especially doing it all in a wheelchair?!?

Well I'm up with the lark after having been out for a meal with DP last night - first time for ages. Had a really nice Thai tho' have been tossing & turning all night - is it MSG? Do they put MSG in Thai food? Whatever, I've been hot and bothered, and not in a Pazza sense either .

Have a good day all and catch up with you later x

asicsgirl · 24/04/2008 06:32

p.s. bobsmum yeah I can't wait for Heroes either! Starting to think I should be on the 'telly addicts' thread...

bobsmum · 24/04/2008 08:41

Casserole - v but very very excited for you!!! Hope your little passenger gets off soon

Mitchell81 · 24/04/2008 08:45

Caserole: Good luck, hope you have a quick labour

Thanks for those that have asked about my back, it is much better thanks. After 4 days it was back to normal.

YCBS: Sorry to hear about your friends loss, it makes you remember how precious our pregnancies are.

GCG hope you enjoyed your morning!!!!!

Mumofk: hope you not missing DD too much.

Pinacoloda: Hope DD is better at nursery today, but remember it is not your fault.

Asicsgirl: don't know about the MSG, but glad you had a good meal even if you couldn't sleep afterwards.

goodcatholicgirl · 24/04/2008 09:41

Oh blimey! I seem to have been confused with a few people, pina and sweetbean not at Robonan's funeral (not unless I missed them?? Didn't see any other whales there .) Not to worry, there are lots of us posting XX

YCBS I am so so sorry for your friend's loss. I cannot imagine anything worse, and also for yourself, such a difficult time too. A lady at work lost her baby at 38 weeks years ago, I was only 22 at the time but I will never forget it. How awful, sending you lots of ((((hugs)))) and will say special GCG prayers for your poor friend and her family .

casserole Yay!!! You go girl! Not at all (much!). Can't believe you even managed to get on MN to tell us all while you were having contractions!! I guess next time we hear from you you'll have some news for us....yipeeee....can I be next please???

bobsmum Yay for 'Heroes' return too!! I watched The Apprentice last night, and thought to myself 'I wonder if next Weds when I watch The Apprentice I'll have my baby with me??'. I just want it to happen now!!

On that matter........ No hanky panky for me yet today. I had a bad night with gut ache and is anyone else constipated? ??? I am 'going', but not my normal 'satisfying dump' (sorry, TMI!). My sis said maybe it's nerves re labour.....could be. I just feel all bloated and uncomfortable. Hence, sex last thing on my mind this am, plus, DH had a busy night shift, only got in at 8am, I guess I should let him sleep first!!! Then, SIL just rang and is popping over.....so all in all, not really happening at the moment. Maybe later .

Does anyone know if you can take Sennakot while pg? (I think it's kind of herbal). I know I took it just after having DD cos I didn't 'go' for over a week . I kept telling the MW that I was scared to push to go to the loo cos last time I did that, a baby came out , and she said (and I quote) "It's a completely different part of the body" to which I replied "yes, but it's not a million miles from the scene of the crime".

Anyway, I really want to just do a decent poo, I'm drinking lots of water, eating fruit etc....any ideas?? So sorry if this is TMI, but I think worse things have been (and will be) discussed .

GCG xxx

goodcatholicgirl · 24/04/2008 09:44

sweetbean my RLT tablets are only 400mg, but I can take 3-6 a day?

asicsgirl · 24/04/2008 10:10

Whoops GCG I'm one of the idiots confusing Robonan's grandkids Sorry! As I said before I literally have to take notes and seems I can't even do that efficiently any more

Re. the poo issue - AFAIK Senokot is not OK to take during pg for the same reason as castor oil i.e. it causes the gut to spasm and can set off labour. I'm not so bad constipation-wise now but had it badly in early pg and was given Lactulose solution for it. You can buy it over the counter, it's very mild but does work. You may have to wait a few days to see the effects. Hope you get some relief soon!!

I was frightened to poo after labour - the MW asked me every day and kept looking at me disapprovingly and writing 'No BM' on my notes - when it eventually happened I was so excited I ran down the stairs going 'I did a poo! I did a poo!' like a toddler... Sorry if TMI

horseshoe · 24/04/2008 10:17

sweetbean My tablets are also 400mg 3-6 a day. Not taken them yet as they look like the size of a horse tranquilizer!!!

casserole On the home run now!!!

YBCS Sorry to hear of your friend. It is my biggest nightmare and I cant imagine what she is going through.

I hope everyone else is doing well too!!!

I nearly phoned the MW last night as I am really struggling with the pain this time. I have an intense pressure from the baby on my hip bones and cant imagine how he is going to get out. Everytime he moves I am having to practice my breathing. I am asking for a growth scan as he was estimated at 5lb2oz at my 30 week scan. MW seemed surprised that I hadn't had another scan.

Still agonizing over HB (which I have been advised against) and hospital. Ordered a TENS last night so gonna practice as soon as I receive it.

Really getting nervous now. Not because of the labour but because of how I go into labour. I much prefer the nice natural build up to fast and furious anyday, especially as DH works nights and I dont want to be in complete agony with 2 kids to sort out and phoning everyone up.

DH is as helpful as a lighter with no gas!!! Last night as I was screaming in pain I asked him to run a bath for me and his reply was "can it wait a bit"? Hence the reason my MUM is my birth partner!!

sweetbean · 24/04/2008 10:29

GCG lactulose is good and you can get it on prescription from your MW. Hope you have a lovely big poo soon !!

I looked up the 900mg tables for raspberry leaf and its a company called Bio Health that makes them and they recommend 2 a day !! but not to start taking them before 38wks preg so i don't know what to do now??

asicsgirl · 24/04/2008 10:36

Poor you horseshoe the pain sounds terrible. Really does sound like you need to see MW or doc doesn't it? Sorry to hear DH is being so unhelpful! Hope you feel better.

Just one thing about the TENS machine - I haven't got mine here to check (have lent it to a friend!) but I seem to remember you're not supposed to use it before you actually go into labour. Not sure why but I guess read the instructions before you proceed!

Totally sympathise with wanting everything sorted out re. child care in labour. Can you get your ducks in a row before the main event?

asicsgirl · 24/04/2008 10:38

Just re-read my post and sorry if I'm coming across like I'm lecturing don't mean to!

asicsgirl and horseshoe It is FINE to use TENS before labour, it's an almost risk free form of pain relief (it only can't be used over the heart, or pg ladies tummies). It's the safest form of 'electrotherapy' we use at work. I used mine with DD when I was about 37 weeks and had bad back pain. I think it's good to practice using it too.

asicsgirl re Senakot not being safe in pregnancy in case it brings on labour....surely that's not such a bad thing at 39 weeks, when I am doing all I can to bring on labour???!!! I have MW on Tuesday so I think I will ask her then, in the meantime, thanks for the lactulose tip, I remember handing it out to the old dears when I worked in a residential home in my uni holidays.....looks foul but if it does the trick who cares?!!

YCBS very tricky situation for you with your friend. One of my BF's had a double M/C (one straight after the other) last year and would have been due in July and I think she is finding it hard seeing me so close to popping, and thinking how she should have been 7 mths herself by this stage. It's very hard, I am very conscious of it when we see each other, alhough not cos of how she makes me feel, just cos I know how I'd be feeling .

goodcatholicgirl · 24/04/2008 10:57

YCBS sorry, that wasn't really much help was it? Why don't you txt your friend or send her a little card saying that you can't imagine what she's going through, and that you are here for her if she needs you, but that because of your situation, you will leave the ball in her court to contact you, and that you will be there for her as soon as she needs you. I sent my BF a card with words to that effect when she had her M/C ( I was about 4 mths pg) and she seemed to respond well to it. Good luck XXXX

asicsgirl · 24/04/2008 11:00

GCG thanks for that - sorry I misremembered the TENS instructions! Yeah I did think about the Senokot thing... I guess I'm just in ultra-cautious mode at the moment (due next Thurs and trying not to pop before Sat at the earliest! )

goodcatholicgirl · 24/04/2008 11:05

That's OK asicsgirl!!

Blimey, I am so bored. DD at CM. DH asleep. I should go and hang the washing up but I can't lift the wash basket of heavy wet washing upstairs (I hate feeling so useless ).

Running out of things to surf on the net....

mumblemummy - if you read this, big hugs

pina - good luck getting the scan

GDG - glas you didnt end up in the grave and good luck with the pineapple (rather you than me...)

YCBS - i agree with GCG about the note - becuase then if she feels uncomfortable she can get the space she needs or it nay be that it helps her to be arounf the bump/baby. how truely horrible for her though. worst nightmare.... also hello chocolate dog!

magicfairy & Horseshoe - hello! Horseshoe at your DH!!! cheeky git!!

sweetbean - on the rasberry leaf tea my MW said from 34 weeks (i think) and didnt restrict numbers, did ask the homeopath and she said from 30 weeks and to start taking 1 a week and keep upping each week. Ive developed a bit of a taste for the tea so am taking the tablet in the morning and having a cup or two during the day (i would drink it by the bucketload if i could though)

casserole - how exciting keep us posted!!! fingers/toes crossed for you...

bobsmum - very impressed that you braved the ikea sale!! know what you mean re heroes, i was lying across my birthing ball last night as back playing up and suddenly knelt up said "its 9o'clock - doesnt heroes start tonight???? you must tape it" DP spend next 5 mins explaining that it was wednesday

lol re sample pots, i wouldnt have a clue what that area looks like if not for mirrors, when the bump arrived (very suddenly, i just looked like a right fat bloater for ages) i couldnt see it for the life of me and that whole area became a sort of "here be dragons..." for DP, poor love must be quite frustrated, i know i am...

asics - how you feeling now? did you manage to get any rest?

arrivals list is getting longer - very exciting, and am a little to be honest... however when i woke up this AM, i put my hand on belly and felt ribs - freaked out. Realised that bean had just decided to move even further down (how she has managed this is totally beyond me), was just really strange, really think im going to miss being pregnant (despite all my moaning and not eating yummy things/drinking/walking in a non-duck manner)

virtual bar now also stocking chocolate brownies, champagne and chocolates...

asicsgirl · 24/04/2008 11:55

otter LOL at 'here be dragons'... I'm not too bad thanks, DS at nursery today so I'm trying to get through my list of things to do and getting distracted by MN instead! No news for you yet then? Wonder when things will get going!

GCG Youtube is where I end up when bored surfing. It is addictive though, don't know how long I was looking at Green Wing/ Smack the Pony/ Black Books clips the other day...

Casserole- how exciting- I wonder if you'll be able to keep us posted?!

Forgot who started talking about wee pots, but my midwife last time around warned me I would lose the ability to 'aim' and to get something to keep clean, wee into, then pour whats needed into sample pot. So my wee measuring jug lives in bathroom cupboard- I just have to keep it hidden from DD otherwise she'd like it as a bath toy! I must say it was very good advice and it is much easier than trying to clean up wee pots.

GCG- I still can't face pineapples after eating so many to 'bring on' DD! They were 2 for 1 at Sainsbury's then, though but I think I stopped at around 5 or 6 (thinking 5 but must have been an even no. as 241!). I'm no help on the constipation side of things- I've got the opposite problem! I've cut down on fruit, spicy foods and this week just can't stop poo-ing (sorry!this is really TMI). Its just getting a bit annoying- us pg women are expected to wee all the time! Hope the lactulose/senekot/whatever you can take works though, it must feel awful with bump as well.

YCBS- I'm so sorry about your friend. With my work unfortunately this kind of thing crops up occasionally- not often- and it is so upsetting that in this day and age babies are stillborn. I've only had to tell one lady her baby died late in pg, and it still affects me to this day. I couldn't believe my last pg would end with a baby, from all the negative things I see in my job (the midwives were a bit concerned about how negative I was for a while!) and although I can put my fears away most of the time, they still get me now and again. I cannot imagine what your friend is going through now, - seeing you might upset her, but feeling you're avoiding her may be worse. Give her the chance to say if she's ready to see you? God, thats an awful place to be in. Hugsxx

Right, trying to be cheerful again....
I think yesterday i was being all hormonal over DD- today's been fine and having a lie in was FABULOUS! I even read in bed for a while- an unknown luxury. I'm really looking forward to doing the same tomorrow! Tonight is my last evening out arranged- meal out with NCT friends from last time, carefully booked so I can be there with bump- I'm looking forward to it. I hardly ever go out for meals, but the prospect of not having the oppertunity means I've had about 6 meals out in the last 2 weeks- not looking forward to my visa bill!
Hugs to all, hope all is well out there!

thefortbuilder · 24/04/2008 13:04

hi everyone sorry haven't posted in ages - who else has popped? do we have a list?
it's a bit hectic here with 2 boys and not too much sleep and dh being a bit of a pita at the moment so can't stop.

hope everyone else is ok thoug?
