Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

hello

i am such a lurker today - i'm thinking i might go to bed for a nap just to get me off the computer (especially as i nearly bought lots of things i dont need for the bean... you have enough clothes even if they are really cute...)

blobsmummy - sending you labour vibes - pants about the BP, fingers crossed that you get the birth you want

Pina - know how you feel about consultants, mine doesnt even look at me/ address me at all just speaks to DP however he'll het a shock when we see him next if he tries to start inducing me without good reason - have used time on internet to not just MN but to find all NHD guidelines and current medical advice on GD... sounds like you have a lovely midwife though, is there someone you can take with you as moral support (even if they just sit there?) also sending positive lovely birth vibes to you

currently the virtual bar is stocking bloody marys, magaritas and pina coladas, bar snacks include yummy flapjack, provided by podglet's bf's mum and cardboard oakcakes for the otter...

right im stepping away from the computer...

otter1980 · 23/04/2008 15:31

oops cross post, and then i promise i'll step away...
we still have pain and uncomfort however nothing else has happened... so we are getting proper contractiony things (i think, otherwise im really concerned about what i have inside me..) but not so that i cant talk and too occasionally to count. also my waters are firmly in place...
i'm with you pina on the tens machine - DP would have spent so long messing around with it i'd have has the baby before he'd finished...

PazzaPlusTwo · 23/04/2008 15:35

mmm flapjacks ...

podglet · 23/04/2008 16:24

Just seen this thread from Mumblesmummy, she's having a really hard time
with her nan and DP aounds awful

awww...poor mumblesmummy. what a horrible thing to being going through, especially when heavily pregnant.

thanks everyone for the info about the bed mats. i'll definitely get some.

good luck otter - hopefully you'll be announcing the arrival of your little one soon.

didn't ask midwife for growth scan today because she thinks the baby is on the small side, rather than big. am now 35 weeks and measuring 33cm so growth seems to have slowed down. not sure why i'm feeling quite so heavy but anyway... i've got an appointment with the consultant early next week so i'll see what he says about it and ask about the growth scan then.

pina - try not to worry about the consultant / scan thing. if the midwife thinks the baby is big, the consultant's unlikely to say no to a scan. i know what you mean about the timing, though. it'd be nice to have a bit longer to think about possible c-section if it does turn out to be their recommendation. Fingers crossed for you. x

Pina, what did they say about your chest pain?

Have such bad backache again and my tummy is like a rock.... am typing this whilst rocking around on my ball which is helping.

All the talk of flapjacks made me bake some chocolate brownies this afternoon

You don't need to "get a grip" Pina! Some days we're just more resiliant than others, it's ok. And I think at this stage things like your DD playing up at nursery is harder to deal with, because you know you're about to have even less time, energy and resources to deal with it. We need the rest of our lives to run smoother, not harder right now!

I have my ball next to the bed, and my laptop perched on the bed on two pillows, and my legs open enough to allow me to lean forward towards the bed. Does that make sense? It's more comfortable than any other option I've found so far, anyway. Am trying in ernest to lean forward, spend time on hands and knees, etc - I know my placenta is in a position that makes bub more likely to be posterior and I think this cracking backache probably means she's done just that, so trying to beat her at her own little game and make it as hard as possible for her to stay that way!!

How are you feeling this evening YCBS?

Hi all, again not been on for ages, life seems to be getting more and more hectic as the weeks go on!
DS has finally stopped the super clingy thing and is sleeping better again, phew! DH new business is kinda up and running, but its hard finding the time to focus on that with bump and DS prodding and poking me!
Bump is big and getting quite painful, still have another week to wait until i see my useless mw, when she will go through my birth plan (hah!). We went to visit the birth unit yesterday, which was lovely, really hoping that it all goes well enough for me to there instead of the main hospital like last time. Although with only 2 midwifes on call to cover 2 districts, the chance of them being free in my mind is very slim!
Major annoyance today as we have upgraded our bed to a king size, planning on having bubs in with us (and ds comes in for morning cuddles), the mattress arrived today, after ordering a month ago and they have sent a bloody double not a king!
Now have to wait another month probably until the new one comes and i have to have a mattress in the hall for a week until they can collect it!
Anyway enough rambling from me, hope you are all well and babies are being good

horseshoe · 23/04/2008 19:50

Hi Everyone, Can I be a late joiner??

I have actually lurked since August but this is my first post!!

Have been really paranoid about this pregnancy and have put off posting until I felt able to.

I have 2 dd's 5 and 2.

I was on the Jan 06 thread for DD2 and every week something was going wrong with the pregnancy and then suffered a family death so it felt like I never had any good news and so with this pregnancy I waited until 20 weeks...then a bit more when I was told that baby had a few problems with swollen kidneys...then a bit more and now I am due 14th May and have never posted

I'm another one with a big baby and feeling so much pressure on my pelvis. I originally wanted a HB but have been advised not to. Now my SPD has kicked in big time and like PINA I either want an epidural or a planned section. I have my consultant appointement on Monday. I saw MW yesterday and she said baby 4/5 down so he possibly putting additional pressure on my pelvis.

Welcome 'horseshoe'. You probably feel like you know us all really well if you have been 'lurking' since August! Sorry to hear about the problems you have been having but let's hope all will be straightforward now and you can enjoy being pg/having new baby with the rest of us .

pregnabrain My waters broke in bed, in my opinion, the best place for it to happen , or least embarassing at least! I was very prepared (I did warn you all I am Monica Geller) and had inco sheets under bottom sheet. This time, I have inco sheets under bottom sheet, and a big towel on top, just cos I figure if they do break in bed again, DH will have enough to do without then having to change the bed too....

mumofk Thanks for the spaces...so much better . And don't worry about the length of your posts, I don't, ha ha ha!!!
I hope you are not missing your DD too much. My DD only goes to her CM for 4 hrs at a time and the house is so quiet without her. I miss her too. Sending ((((hugs)))).

sweetbean at massage! How was it??

casserole any more labour signs??? I did LOL at us all lined up on sunloungers drinking bloody mary's!!, ooo, and can we add your choc brownies to the virtual bar please, they sound yummy!!!

podglet Oooo, yes please I will have some flapjack please!! I LOVE it! I'm so pleased to hear things are going well with DS and Libby, hope we can all do the same! Oh, and I PMSL at your DH...'man the lifeboats'!!!

asicsgirl at your MIL....families eh??!

pinacolada Hope you are feeling a bit better tonight luvvie. It sounds like you had a good MW at least. I know it's worrying, but hang on in til that 39 week appt and see what happens then. (((hugs))).
I too am struggling to pee in the STUPID sized sample pots! Bump means I just can't see, so yes, it is quite messy .
So sorry to hear about your problems with DD, but have you considered that she might actually be getting quite nervous herself about the impending arrival of her little baby sister? She sounds old enough to understand what's coming, and she has been the only one for you and your DH for 3 years (is she 3??). It sounds like it could be an attention thing, but not in a bad way, just because she is worried about what will happen to her when baby comes, which is obviously quite soon. Just a thought, maybe have a little chat with her???? My mate who just had a baby 3 weeks ago had similar probs with her DD (5 yrs old) just before her baby was born.

Thank-you all so much for your good wishes for today. The funeral went OK, apart from having to park miles (OK, not miles literally, but quite far) from the church cos the car park was full, and being a London borough all the side roads were permit only, AND it was pouring with rain . I managed to stand OK at the burial, although nearly had a 'Ross from Friends' moment as I lent forward to splash the holy water on the coffin, I slipped on the wet grassy type stuff they put down and luckily my Mum was nearby and grabbed me or I may have ended up in the grave with Robonan !!!! That'll serve me right for being so flippant about her death .
We saw lots of Mum's family at the wake, and they all kept asking me 'how long I had to go' and when I said I was due next week, there were a few nervous faces....LOL!!!

Anyway, yesterday I dutifully went and bought my fresh pineapple only to be told by my mate that apparently you have to eat at least 7 (yes, SEVEN!!!!) for it to be effective, because apparently it's all the pineapple that sends your intestines into spasm which then can spark labour...... Not sure I like the sound of that now. Think I'll just enjoy this one.

Also, TENS machines, don't worry about electrode placement ladies, there are no hard and fast rules, you just stick the pads where you have pain (back pain, obviously don't stick them on your bumps ).

Right, sorry for long post (again). It took me ages to catch up, a busy day for May ladies!!

GCG xxx

P.S. DH wants sex in the morning to try and bring on labour.....who am I to refuse !!

goodcatholicgirl · 23/04/2008 20:32

OMG, just looked at the size of my post, that really was a long one .

Mitchell81 · 23/04/2008 20:32

Missvicki had her baby two weeks early, in birth announcements.

Can't find the updated due list with the arrivals list- needs to be updated

Just checking in!

Haven't been on for a while - still in the midst of decorating.

Due tomorrow/Friday!!!!!

But nothing happening yet.

WEnt for a massage today which was fab - I got a lovely warm oil rub on my bump with jasmine - another one meant to start things off. I also got a lot of relief in my pelvis, but that wsa just temporary and I'm back in agaony again.

Went to Ikea on Saturday for the 21% off everything sale and had to go round in a wheelchair - I just couldn't walk a step

My MIL is here still - she doesn't seem to get the concept of due dates and seems to think it's my fault that baby hasn't arrived while she's here

On the plus side I'm getting my dinners made - otherwise I feel like I'm babysitting a bit.

Carpet being fitted on Saturday - maybe baby will decide to arrive once the nest is built

My bump is all baby according to m/w, but I'm still only 4/5ths engaged. Cervix feels a bit different though in the last few days while I've been doing my perineal massage - so maybe soon?

One of my friends who was due two weeks from now had her wee boy on Monday - am so - I was next in the queue!!

But another friend who had her wee boy 3 weeks ago was admitted back into hospital with DVT and is now on Warfarin and in for the next week at least. But she's on the maternity ward and getting loads of help and as a result I think has got b/feeding sussed in a way she might not have if she'd just been at home - silver linings and all that...

A good friend gave me her old breast pump today to use for nipple stimulation - another starter - then I guess I could keep any colustrum I express in the freezer for emergencies.

Sooo excited about meeting baby now. dd has decided it's a "pink one" - I hope she's not too disappointed if it's blue

Heroes is back on tomorrow - I hope I don't go into labour then, cos I really want to see it. Ditto dh won't be impressed if I need to time contractions during Dr Who on Saturday

Love to you all!!

Casserole · 24/04/2008 05:06

Just a little update over here: waters went at about 3:30 and have had a show. Contractions pretty regular and feel strong but sure they won't later by comparison!
Will post update later. Cx
