Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

Never used it before!

Ds was 38 weeks

DD was 40+4

So I've no idea when this one will decide to appear

But because ds was a section I can't be induced if I go over. The hospital will let me go probably no longer than 10 days over (although I'll fight for 14 ) and if I still haven't gone into labout naturally then I'll have to have a section, which I'm gutted about especially as dd was a VBAC. But an induction with a section scar is baaad news - the risks of rupture are still small but much higher than if you go into labour naturally.

So I'm going to try everything

The last thing the m/w said to me this morning was:

"Hot Curry, Hot Bath and Hot Sex

AND

I've just spotted this on the Christian prayer thread:

Podglet had a little girl Elizabeth Jeanette Sheila 7lbs 10oz

Congratulations and having an ickle Elizabeth myself I can honestly say what a fab name

bobsmum · 15/04/2008 23:06

Actually no idea how many times to use the sage tbh - will just keep slathering it on and hoping!

Hi everyone
First of all congrats Podglet on the safe arrival of Elizabeth - can't remember your due date but she was a really good size wasn't she.

I'm still feeling pretty ok, apart from the tiredness and strong BHs - actually I had a laugh with these the other day, as I was doing my shopping and all the way round the supermarket I kept having to stop as they were quite strong, and I lost count of the number of people giving me terrified looks, like "OMG, she's going to pop right here in the freezer aisle"! My baby has really had a growth spurt in the last couple of weeks, so I think s/he's going to be bigger than the OB predicted. Not the only thing that's had a growth spurt either - my areolas have also turned freakily big and gone really dark - they're like targets, so will hopefully make it easier for the baby to latch on!

Oh, Green Wing - just about my favourite programme ever; I just love everything about it (especially Doctor Macartney..swoon) and watch it endlessly. I read on the Telly Addicts thread they are making another series - anyone heard this or was it wishful thinking?

Got our first hypnobirthing class tomorrow - the midwife from my OB is a trained practitioner and is coming to our place to do the course as my dh can't make the set classes and I am determined to do this, it sounds amazing, and I'm really reassured by reading about some of you who've done it (mumofk is it you? And someone else? Sorry, goldfish brain!)

I'm also having a baby shower tomorrow! It's funny as this is not something that I'd ever think of doing - it's not common in England is it?), but my friend who's from South Africa has organised it and now I'm really excited and also touched that someone thought of doing this for me. I just know I'm going to blub like crazy throughout it - seem to spend half my life in tears over something at the mo. Damn those hormones

goodcatholicgirl · 16/04/2008 09:17

Booo! I have realised I am badly allergic to chlorine....not itchy skin, but itchy throat, stuffed up nose, sinus pain and generally feeling as if my head will explode as I sneeze constantly . Had a few suspicians, but it only ever happens the days I go swimming. So annoying cos I love my swimming. I'm hoping it's just while I'm pregnant, as I used to swim 3-4 times a week (at a different pool) and had no problems. Has anyone else found they are more sensitive or allergic since being pregnant???

mumofk sorry, no saucers here . Although if any of my mates read this (yes Denny185, that means you) they will chuckle to themselves as since a topless sunbathing holiday with the girls when I was 21 I have been teased for having nips like fruit pastilles .

Right, best get off to hair appt.

sweetbean My DD was due 24th May (06) but was born 17th May, so yours might be early.

wolverina I saw an interview with the guy who plays Martin on Green Wing (actually REALLY arrogant and up himself in real life???!!) and he said they wouldn't be making another series? However, things change hey?

I just posted without reading the last page so congrats to Podglet....I hope all is well.

Hi all,

I'm starting antenatal classes this evenning so I am really excited.

Podglet: Congratulations on the arrival of Elizabeth. She really was a good size.

Sweatbean: It can be really helpful talking to someone can't it? I find the counselling at the hospital really useful. I probably need cognitive behaviour therapy which the maternity services don't offer but at least I have someone to help. I have suffered from so many rare conditions related to pregnancy it helps to have someone understand where the anxiety is coming from. She is also really useful in that she acts as an advocate for me with the rest of the hospital so if I am not being seen enough she can book me in for appointments. Yes, it's nice to know there is someone else who has a few more weeks to go. I might be due around the same time as you because I have to be induced.

Lots of love NS XXXX

blobsmummy · 16/04/2008 10:52

Thanks for keeping on top of the list Sweetbean .

Congratulations to Podglet on Elizabeth's arrival .

I spent another 4 hours in hospital last night as my BP is still high, but apparently not high enough to do anything about. It's about 140/90 at the mo (all throughout pregnancy up until 2 weeks ago I was 90/65, so it's quite an increase for me). If I stay at about this high, I may still get my home birth, but if it goes any higher, I'll have to go into hospital, and if it goes above 100 I'll be going in pretty quick to be treated (whatever 'treated' means - giving birth I guess ). The head is very very engaged, so I'm hoping sooner rather than later as I'm getting fed up of traipsing up to the hospital just to sit around and then coming home.

It feels like I haven't seen DD in ages as she's been lving with MIL whilst I keep going to the hospital. I know that she has a really lovely time there, but I do feel bad that I'm just not being a mummy to her at all , and I think I should be making the most of having just her before she has to share me. Ho hum...

Sorry for the moan, just feeling a bit low today. Will cheer up now as it's my last few hours at work today and I'm going out for a nice family meal tonight, so I have nice things to look forward to today.

Have a lovely day all...x

pregnabrain · 16/04/2008 11:15

Morning!

CONGRATULATIONS PODGLET!! HURRAH...

Ta for posting the list. It's good to see when everyone's due. Good to see lots of regular posters on the long end of May wait with me!!

GCG - funny you should mention the allergies thing. I came out in a horrible red itchy rash on my hands after using some cleaning fluid to clean the sink yesterday. Am definitely more sensitive than normal. You'll prob be fine once your hormones are back to normal, but some swimming pools are better than others for chlorine allergy so good to ask around. The newer pools are supposed to be the best.

Enjoy the hypnobirthing course Wolverina. I can't recommend it highly enough (although, obviously haven't been through the labour bit yet!!).

Now here's a personal one and poss TMI. Have been planning loads of rumpy pumpy towards the end to get things moving, but...I feel too gross. I'm so huge, and have piles, and everything feels swollen and weird 'down there'. I'm really worried that dh will be put off me for life, and that i won't be able to relax and enjoy the action. Don't know what to do about it...

Ah, the things I'll reveal to a bunch of complete strangers on mn!!

pregnabrain · 16/04/2008 11:22

sorry blobsmummy, didn't see your post before putting mine up.

sorry to hear about your blood pressure. I suppose the only thing you can do is try to do as much totally relaxing stuff as possible and get as much sleep as you can.

I know exactly what you mean about spending hours at the hospital just waiting around. We had to wait 2-3 hours for each scan, and antenatal appointments are just as bad. It makes me really angry that they can't organise things better.

Try not to feel sad about your dd being with your family, though. You're about to give her a wonderful gift - a brother or sister - which will add to her life in an amazing way. You'll always be her mummy and have special times with her.

mumblesmummy · 16/04/2008 15:12

Hello everyone.

Thanks for all the lovely things said.

GCG- Not that mumbles lol. Have you seen happy feet with the little penguin called mumbles who dances all the time? It was after him because the baby dances none stop in my tummy Totally in awe of your 50 lengths by the way!

MumofK- I've been getting full on contractions since 9 this morning today, but they're just not regular at all. Had a midwife appt today, so I told her but she said she thinks it's BH again. Also I've got a very pulled muscle in my side which is killing. awesome. Everyone says Braxton Hicks are doing some prepping though don't they? So hopefully he'll be here early!

Okeydoke, I'm off to holland and barrett for the rapberry leaf tea.

xxx

Congrats to Podgelet. Hope you and baby are both well.

Pina- so glad it's not just me with the leaky waters/wee situation. I'm convinced they just thin k I look like a pissy knickers person!!

sweetbean · 16/04/2008 15:49

Blobsmummy Hope your OK Hun and that your blood pressure comes down soon. Enjoy your Meal tonight you lucky thing !! and with regards to you and dd I'm with pregnabrain and couldn't have put it better my self however i also feel like a crappy mummy most of the time so you have my total sympathies xxx

Pregnabrain With regards to the sex bit i would say just give it a go and if you feel to weird or unhappy about it then at lest you will have tried also you could try and have a chat to your DH about how you are feeling about it and see what he says if he looks horrified tell him if he thinks that's bad then wait till after the birth !!!!(don't worry you will return to normal eventually) xxxxxxxx

KangaAndRoo · 16/04/2008 16:51

GCG - pmsl @ fruit pastilles....Im sure Deny could tell a few tales about you

Pina - ....thinking what you asked me......................................................Ahhhh yes...the Iron....hmmmmm bit debatable...the breathlessness is still there but the grey circles under my eyes arent as bad lol...and I had a tad more energy to run round playgroup this morning

hope youre both ok xxxxx

Casserole · 16/04/2008 18:06

Right, I just got my baps out to check whether I too had sprouted saucer-sized aerolas and they leaked all over the place!! So that's the last time I'm taking part in a research project on this thread

(oh, and they are a bit bigger, and darker, but not massive. Just for the record).

38 weeks today by my dates (not till the weekend by the hospital's tho). I have some low down achey type pains. I have no idea if they're BHs or not, never having done this before! They're not strong, anyway. Every so often I think baby punches my cervix though, just for fun I guess - maybe she'll punch out my plug?! Ah, the things we wish for.... Otherwise I'm actually feeling more comfortable than I have done in a few weeks. Crazy that in a maximum of 4 weeks life is going to change forever.... when I think of it like that I don't feel in a hurry, but other times I think "just bring it on now".

YCBS - I just thought I'd throw in that my worst sleep time was probably 32-35 weeks. I'm actually sleeping pretty well now since she dropped a few weeks ago and I only got up to wee twice last night So hang in there, it may well get better.

Congratulations to Podglet and welcome to Elizabeth

Oh, I found this thread on MN the other night and it made me laugh out loud for about 20 minutes so am offering it up to you all.

asicsgirl · 16/04/2008 19:05

Hallo all

Well done podglet!! Congratulations!

pazza LOL at the devil's claw etc. My bag was similarly packed with 'healthy' snacks the first time round... in the event I can recommend Muller Rices and isotonic sports drink, fantastic. Thanks for the Palahniuk recommendation - I'll get hold of Non Fiction. Finally finding some time to read now I'm on ML... lovely.

mumofk DP goes to Debbie Dinc too! Small world. The sling meet sounds great - do you know when the next Hebden meet is?

wolverina and others - Green Wing! I can't believe there would be a third series - where would they go with it? Incidentally DP had what I thought was a much better interpretation of the weird goings-on in Series 2 - that it was all Mac's coma-induced dream...

GCG 'only' fifty lengths?? and all that decorating? you really do put us to shame. I've been a complete slob this time round - first time I exercised regularly all the way through - was on the stationary bike the week I gave birth. But this time, gawd, I've been so tired. I do get on the bike every now and again and feel great for about 2 hours afterwards then I'm ready to drop. I read on an exercise-in-pregnancy site 'Do not ignore fatigue' so sorry to say I have taken that to heart!

goodcatholicgirl · 16/04/2008 20:11

blobsmummy sorry to hear of your hospital hassles. I'm sure your DD is fine, but missing her Mummy .

pregnabrain I'm sure your DH will be a lot more oblivious to what you are concerned about than you realise, he is a man after all, they hardly notice anything?!!

casserole at the boob leakage!! All in the name of scientific research though eh love?!!

Well I had me hair done, had to go to a different 'stylist' as mine on hols (I didn't want to risk leaving it til she got back, too close to due date). I was a bit nervous at first, she seemed v slow and awkward putting the foils in.....eeek! However, she has cut it EXACTLY how I have wanted it for over a year, that my usual hairdresser just didn't seem to 'get' what I meant . So I am well chuffed. Picked up my new specs from specsavers to, so I am almost ready now, waxing tomorrow....LOL .

Tonight my DH and brother moved our bedroom furniture around to accomodate the crib for the baby. When it was done, me and DH just looked at the crib and said "won't it be weird to have another little baby in our room with us?!" And then we realised, this is gonna happen quite soon!!!!! EEEEKKK!!! Exciting, but bit scary too!!!

Right, I am actually gonna sit down and chill tonight. The Apprentice is on soon (anyone watching it?) then desp HW's.

Hope all is well with you all.

GCG xxx

mumofk · 16/04/2008 20:16

Just spednt half an hour typing and lost it all- aren't you all lucky! So here's the short version (I'm not scrolling up and down so apologies for not remembering who's doing what)
Congratulations podlget!
Sympathies for boob leakage, painful BH, allegies to swimming (that one must be GCG!).
Good luck with hypnobirthing course, I also highly recommend it (without having done the last bit!) and have finally heard how very anxious lady went on from my class- did brilliantly for 30 hr labour, but someone mentioned pethidine (against her birthplan wishes) so she demanded it (a good midwife tried to talk her out of it) and wishes she hadn't now, but that was only the last hour.
hope lady beginning with B (sorry, get blobsmummy/bobsmum/etc muddled) with naughty BP gets it to behave enough- maybe stopping work today will help? I hope so.
Asics, it is a small world! I think the HB meet is at the beginning of the month (I just delete the emails at the mo,so can't recall which day but it is a morning, either Tues,Wed,Thurs and at the alternative technology centre if wet, in the park if dry).If you go on Yahoo (I accidentally found it when signing up for freecycle a couple of years ago!) it must be quite easy to find for me to be on it!
Thanks for the boob info, I'm reassured I'm not unusually weird in that department.
I'm definately suddenly MUCH more uncomfortable, breathless, knackered, unable to move much, and after starting to feel brackston hicks last night when I wanted to sleep (2 hrs in bed extremely uncomfortable, wander round a bit, fine, back to bed, all starts again ) so I'm starting to realise this baby is for real, and I might even have to start thinking that just because I'm not expecting this baby until May doesn't mean it will actually follow my plans- though I'm not at that place yet!
I've got to the nicely puffy stage as well- rings don't fit, socks leave huge marks and all my shoes/boots have shrunk even more so crocs are my ONLY comfortable option - and I'm getting so I don't care what I look like in them!
Right, love to all and leave you in peace for once!!!!
Hope everyone gets the best night sleep possible.....including me!

Azaduhi · 16/04/2008 20:16

hi all,

first of all congrations to poglet.

my mw appointment went really good..after all the check ups, we kept chatting for a while, which was nice.
also see will be the one visiting us at home after baby is born..which is another plus as we developed a good relationship over the past few months.
mentioned SPD to her and that i can cope with the pain but she still sent out a referral for 1-1 physio- sessions as she thinks that it could become worse as baby is still gaining alot of weight over the next 4 weeks.

went for my hospital tour yesterday, which was okay..don't get me wrong hospital, facitilies are really nice but i was sooo excited to go on the tour that i was a bit disapointed when it was over after 30 min.
i don't know..silly really..especially that this is my 2nd pregnancy.

i got a question, sounds a bit silly but when you use a hospital birthing pool, what would you wear?
i don't like the idea of being completely naked.
if anyone used a birthing pool before please let me know what you would suggest.

KangaAndRoo · 16/04/2008 21:59

casserole OMG I had to go look at that thread....I read the WHOLE thing...and cannot get over the dumbfounded stoopidness of that girl and her friend! that poor poor Mw!! but god did I chuckle at some of the replies!! thanks for that.....**goes off to give a bj!!!!

Casserole · 17/04/2008 09:13

Kanga I think I will be the champion of all our partners / husbands if everyone goes and reads that thread Spreading the joy....

Azaduhi I've seen videos of people wearing nighties or big t-shirts in pools, or bras, or bikini / sports bra/vest tops. Maybe take a couple of options and see what feels right. I can't work out what I want to wear and I'm planning to be at home!! It just seems a long time to plan to wander round naked, esp in my heiffer-like state... but perhaps by then we Just Won't Care
