Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

Morning all,

bit of a moan I'm afraid....my allergy sneezes seem to have developed into a full blown cold . Had a really bad night's sleep, but nothing to do with pregnancy, just sore throat and bunged up . So annoying that we can't even take anything for symptoms. Sorry to moan.

Azaduhi I haven't had a water birth, but if you don't wanna be naked you could wear a tankini top?? My sis got one for £4 in Tesco this week.

Something funny to share, my DD keeps grunting and huffing and puffing as she gets arond the house, climbing up on sofa and chairs etc. Obviously I am huffing and puffing anf sighing and grunting a bit at the mo.....I just love the way they copy everything. It's so funny to hear her

GCG xxx

Azaduhi I took vest tops to wear in labour last time (as it's so hot in those rooms) but I was just put in a hospital (backless !) gown as soon as I got there. I didn't really care at the time, so didn't say anything.

pinacolada Yes I do work in a hydro pool, but I don't submerge my head, it's the head under water swimming that gets all the water up my nose and in my throat. I am quite concerned that this might be an end to my swimming. Hopefully just a pgy blip.

GCG sorry to hear about the cold - but does this explain what you thought were allergy symptoms? or am I being dense? wouldn't be the first time... I'm quite an 'allergic' person and I've found that some allergies are better during pg while others seem to stay the same (e.g. MIL's cat still makes me sneeze, but I can eat apples without the usual itch-fest). With DS I had massively reduced hayfever symptoms while I was bf too. So it may be that allergies are affected by pg, but maybe differently in different people?

mumofk excellent I will look up the sling meet. I loved walking with DS in the sling so sounds ideal. Good luck for your chiro appointment tomorrow - I'm more of an osteopathy fan myself tho' I have been to Debbie and found her good - just wasn't the same as being manhandled roughly by the osteo

casserole LOL at that thread too - I don't venture much into the outer reaches of MN and am always surprised by what I read... Not sure if we should get everyone talking about bj's though... it could get ugly [cowering behind sofa emoticon]

mumofk · 17/04/2008 10:12

GCG- sorry you've got a cold as well- how miserable! Your DD sounds so cute, my DD did say something or moan and groan a bit like me once, I certainly hadn't realised how much huffing and puffing I'd been doing!
Azadhui- I took a T shirt to wear in the pool last time, but when midwife said, right you can get in now, take your things off I was (in as much as a woman in labour can) just about running to get in stripping off on the way- definately didn't care about putting anything back on, and I really liked the freedom of being naked in the water. My mental image of me walking around later on, fully dilated, with no clothes on does make me cringe, but I absolutely did not care then!
Pina- sorry you had such a rubbish sleep- hope you can catch up during the day. The night before last I only got 2 hours (I think?!), so rearranged some plans and slept over lunchtime yesterday, then had a really good nights sleep last night so I hope you can catch up soon.
I've just got back from seeing the midwife, all is well and she FORGOT to take some blood- yippee!!!! The blood is to check I'm not anaemic, but I'm quite sure I'm ok (I know you don't always get any signs but from how I've been in the past I've known when I'm going that way) and would only worry until I could get the results. My big fear was I'd only get them when I rang up in labour, and they'd tell me then I couldn't have a home birth. NOt a relaxing thought so much happier not to have blood taken, and easiest all round if they just forget!! My last result was 12.something, which is really good for being pg (or so they told me) so v.v. happy now. And I've got a TENS machine now, hopefully won't want to use it but nice to have in just in case.
So, now its just time to get on with my pizza base making session! DD wanted to help me cook something this morning (she's getting us up far too early these days) so pizza dough was easiest, she's getting a bit bored of the bread machine, so I've got to find freezer space for 8 more bases, once I get them part-cooked. Oh well, all fun and games. Its lasagne for the freezer tomorrow! Hmmm I guess this is my nesting......

mumofk · 17/04/2008 10:37

asics- just got email from whiterosebabywearers in yahoogroups-
There is a sling walk Thurs 24th and next normal meet is May 13th. There's talk of setting up a meet in Halifax (sounds like the HB one sometimes is a bit big for the room they use, but the room is free so...), but there are meets at Huddersfield, Farsley, and other places I've forgotten!

otter1980 · 17/04/2008 11:06

congratulations Podglet!!! hope all's well with you and elizabeth

casserole - my DP thinks you're a wonderful person... Im not that desperate yet tho although (TMI alert) i did have a really saucy dream about me & DP last night ..

cant remember who asked but my nips are also pretty huge - they have been for a while though - gives my DP no end of amusement... i did notice that pattern-wise they remind me of the RAF logo - you know the 3 circles getting smaller... maybe thats why they use that logo...DP says that if baby has any problems finisng them we get her sight checked straight away as theres no missing them...

pina/GCG/mumofk - how cute are your DC's? getting all teary again....

glad to hear im not the only one who hasnt got a clue what BH are... I asked my friend the other day and she said it was when the whole bump goes solid if that helps? so I'm now confused what the other pains ive been getting recently are?

re the clothing, we have people coming to visit this weekend and I'm a bit gutted as it means I will have to wear clothes all weekend... I've just stopped caring about the nakedness - might be a bit different in hospital tho with all those strangers knocking about...

Otter - you're so right about the nips!

Apparently that's why they change colour, so baby can find them and latch on easily. NEwborns can see high contrast really clearly.

Must find that YouTube breast crawl video - tis fab.

Baby is delivered onto mum's tummy and actually crawls up to find the boob - amazing to watch. Amazing that babies only minutes old know what to look for too

I would like to join the large nip brigade my DH has also found then a constant point of amusement and when i tell him to shut up he just says " Yeah but they are MASSIVE though aren't they !!" Cheeky bugger !!

oh and this morning he grabbed my fat and said, i do a very good buddha impression these days charming just bloody charming sometimes men are so insensitive!!

Well i hope every ones OK. I'm cream crackered and just wish that i was able to stay in bed all day but there's no such luck with a 3yr old but never mind i just can't wait to me thus baby and to hopeful start feeling normal again.

Oh also wanted to ask if anyone been to Cyprus and if so whats it like? we are thinking of going on holiday there.

Thanks ladies xxxxx

Azaduhi · 17/04/2008 12:41

my dd did the preggie walk yesterday..i was not amused but she found it sooo funny.

had my tens machine delivered today so have to have a read through the instructions.

i'm just gonna have another lie in day and rest all day in my PJ's.

newbishad · 17/04/2008 14:12

hi all,

Hope your all hanging in there

I had ante-natal classes last night. They are useful in that they cover all the options that are provided for labour (petidine, gas / air, epidurals) and you get a tour of the hospital (included). Unfortunately no relaxation, active birth sessions or breathing techniques are offered which would be extremely useful for me.

Had a bad night afterwards. Couldn't get back to sleep after about 5.30am so I'm a bit tired and worn out today (and weepy).

Lots of love,

NS XXXX

PazzaPlusTwo · 17/04/2008 15:18

Hi!

Ooh I had a rubbish night too, DTs decided to somersault from 4am (no there isn't enough room ,but they did it anyway!) ... but the upside was that I was still awake when DH's alarm went off at 5.30 so I jumped on him

it is always me jumping on him these days ... he seems to have totally lost his mojo, I try not to think/worry about it, I have brought it up once or twice and he just said he was tired

anyway this morning he couldn't escape ha ha

PazzaPlusTwo · 17/04/2008 15:33

Casserole - PMSL at that thread!

Am watching first series of Green Wing again and laughing so hard my belly might split ... I just love Sue White!

My areolas have dark brown patches and also seem to be getting wider. I hadn't noticed before

PazzaPlusTwo · 17/04/2008 15:35

Azaduhi / mumofk - did you buy a TENS or hire one? What make?

asicsgirl · 17/04/2008 16:58

Sorry to hear about all the bad nights. I've been getting up and reading quite a bit too; it just seems to vary.

pazza LOL at jumping on DP. Good for you - get it while you can I say... Is the re-watching of Green Wing improving your mojo perchance? I'm always a lot more up for it after watching Dr Who I have to say

I love Sue White too... my office mate used to call me Sue after her, 'cos of my fast-but-inaccurate typing. We were in IKEA at lunchtime and I saw the jelly and just started laughing (episode 3 if you haven't got that far yet)... Steven Mangan is cracking me up more than ever, I can't wait for that episode where they are in theatre doing Jordie accents.

FWIW I bought a Tens machine first time round, but IMO it didn't make any difference! Did other people find them helpful?

mumofk thanks for the whiterose info! I have located them on yahoo and am joining so hope to see you on a walk soon!

PazzaPlusTwo · 17/04/2008 17:31

I watched that one last night! PMSL about GW and mojo - could be! Not finding JR-T as attractive as I used to tho. Steven Mangan so is the donkey out of Shrek isn't he.

See you in Zurich!

PazzaPlusTwo · 17/04/2008 17:34

Sweetbean - my business partner has been twice to Cyprus and loved it both times. Sounds amazing.

PazzaPlusTwo · 17/04/2008 18:02

bobsmum - that video is sooo cute! I love the way they just leave her to it.

Looks like they have half the village standing around watching though!!!
