Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

otter...raspberry tea is delious isn't it,but because i normally dont drink hotdrinks regulary i keep forgetting about making a cup of tea. probably best for me to stick a note on the kitchen wall as a reminder.

poglet....good luck today..hope to hear your great news soon.

gcg...my dd will be shifted to who ever is on call that labour day too.
got a friend who could take her during the day only, and a couple of full time working friends which might be a bit tricky to accomodate my dd and their work hours somehow.
but my neighboor (who will be moving away in about 4-6 weeks) is willing to take care of dd while i am in labour, i am due in 4.5 weeks so just hope that this while fit somehow.
cause i really want (need) DH with me in hospital even though he will useless but atleast he will give me company during those hours.

dh and my neighboor put up my new 6-door wardrobe in my bedroom yesterday which took about 3 hours to put up and all i did was serving coffee. i felt sooooo lucky that i am highly pregnant, so i didn't had to bother with this big task of building up.
so now the house is in an acceptable lovely state and the only task that dh still has to do is, to put up the cot on the weekend.

i am off to see mw in the afternoon, which i am looking forward too and also we are going on a hospital tour this evening, soo excited it's a nice hospital with good facilities thats explains excitement.

asicsgirl · 15/04/2008 14:30

Hallo again all! Can't believe how much is going on. I am having to take notes to keep up with you all

JBR so glad to hear Isla is doing well. You sound like the model mum! Hope you feel less tearful soon.

podglet looking forward to hearing your news!

mumofk yes I'm in West Yorks too - Hebden Bridge. Whereabouts are you? I'm also planning a home birth - had DS in the MW-led unit at Calderdale which was brill, but happy at thought of staying home this time - particularly getting into own bath & bed after it's all over! I knew what you meant by 'midwife biscuits' - already LOL at home birth website which recommends 'exciting snacks for midwives' on its list of things to provide for a home birth!

Re. childcare while in labour - I'm lucky 'cos my Mum and stepdad are both coming up a few days before the due date and staying for a while. I am issuing them with copious instructions on various aspects of DS's routine as they don't see him that often. DS will be made up as he idolises them...

GCG I sympathise with the decorating woes! I finished the kitchen last week and had what felt like my first real day of freedom yesterday!

Pina know what you mean about the square bump - I've got exactly the same thing with little feet sticking out at times and kicks right round the side of my waist... weird but cool.

Sweetbean great to hear you are seeing the CPN. Hope they get you some support that is useful. Best of luck with that. Re. nervous second timers - well I'm alternating between feeling super-confident (had very good birth the first time round) to really anxious about everything - just trying to stay calm! TBH I think I'm more worried about what happens after the birth - as mumofk mentioned, toddler + sleep deprivation + breastfeeding... Researching slings and hoping to bf on-the-go this time.

Love to everyone, A x

otter1980 · 15/04/2008 15:18

oh my - just had a bit of a weep reading JBR's post... have suddenly become very over-emotional at all mention of babies... however this hasn't stopped me searching out all birth info - we dont have discovery channel so have actually started reading stuff online/ watching video/picture montages. DP came home yesterday to find me looking damp-eyed in front of computer. He thinks i've completely lost it...

Podglet - fingers crossed that all is going well

GCG - what my nan died she'd had alzheimers for 7 years and we all felt a bit relieved (and very guilty for feeling that way), sometimes is more of a blessing when they go. sympathies to you and family tho xx

welcome back sweetbean!!! Good luck to everyone with their childcare - my best friend is visiting this weekend solo as her DP is due to look after his sisters kids and sods law that she'd go into labour when hes 200 miles away!!

we went to see consultant today who has told me that GD is all very well managed and can have active birth and will only be restricted if my blood sugar goes over 10 and then will be on a drip so should still be able to move about - Hurray!!
DP is now questioning why i will have to be induced early if baby is exact size baby should be (according to their charts) and GD well managed... i'm just a bit scared as it can have complications for baby so dont want to risk her...

PazzaPlusTwo · 15/04/2008 16:12

hi everyone

JBR thanks for the update, great to hear everything's going well, Isla sounds v well behaved!

otter good news on your GD

asicsgirl i snuck a look at your profile ... also a fan of almodovar and pj harvey. RE contemporary US writers do you like Chuck Palahniuk? one of my faves, especially Non Fiction.

Wow pina are you sure it's not a wookie in there? How freaky.

Yeah we asked the midwife what snacks she might find 'exciting' the other day... she said she'd be happy with some digestives. Come on! Use your imagination! I felt like saying... I just had this vision of us constructing lots of delicate hors d'oeuvres for the midwives to nibble at... Glass of Bolly perhaps?

Pazza your profile is so organised and don't you look glamorous! I keep meaning to post some pictures but a bit worried about scaring the horses Sorry to say I have been avoiding Palahniuk as I'm of what they used to call 'a nervous disposition' (particularly since DS arrived) and DP warns me that his stuff can be quite gory/ scary... sorry if this sounds pathetic I'm with you on Green Wing too, in fact we just started re-watching series 1 the other night - still brilliant.

PazzaPlusTwo · 15/04/2008 17:02

asicsgirl - glamorous?? you are too kind

you should see me now ... about as glam as a tonka truck and twice as wide, parked on the edge of the sofa legs akimbo having a really bad hair day (week) (month!) clothes smeared in cocoa butter and ultrasound gel ...

PazzaPlusTwo · 15/04/2008 17:07

you're right Chuck Palahniuk can be quite freaky. I definitely don't recommend you read Diary in that case! Non Fiction is mainly observational short stories, quite funny, you can see where he got a lot of the ideas for Fight Club from (which is also a great read if you like the film - the film follows the book virtually word for word)

PazzaPlusTwo · 15/04/2008 17:35

definitely don't read any Haruki Murakami - REALLY freaky short stories that jump out at you out of nowhere ...

PazzaPlusTwo · 15/04/2008 17:38

pinacolada - I have weird bruise-type dark patches around my belly button - which has been a sore spot for weeks now. I think I read ages ago that strange dark patches are pretty normal... some women even get them on their face

mumblesmummy · 15/04/2008 17:46

Hi all.

Thanks for telling me to get checked out, they sent me straight up to labour ward to check for DVT.

They did a scan off the baby too as I had a whoosh of waters last night and soaked my pants. They said it could be 'back waters' and then tried to tell me I'm weeing myself... however, this is totally not the case!! So back waters it probably is. Baby's fine though.

They scanned my legs and there's no clot so they think the baby is leaning on veins/blood vessels and that's what's causing the knee pain and swelling.

Did a doppler and things and asked if I could feel the contractions???? I looked at the sheet and there was 3 or 4. I only feel the odd braxton hicks though so they said they thought it might be that... anyone any knowledge on this?? I would have thought I'd have felt the contractions! They were clear on the sheet.

Thanks for asking after me GCG, that's very sweet. My bump's feeling v low and heavy at the mo too.. think it's because he's engaged now. Let's hope they both head out soon!!

Everyone talking about raspberry tea leaf- where can I buy it? Asda and Tesco don't have it.

Sweetbean- hope you feel more cheery soon, I've been a mental case all pregnancy too, it's a wonder I have any family or friends left. Pregnancy is such a good reason to be crazy though, if you can't be crazy now, when can you be??

xxx

bobsmum · 15/04/2008 18:11

MM - glad you got checked out - look after yourself

I got my raspberry leaf tea in tea bags and tablets from mumstuff.co.uk, but you can definitely buy it from Holland and Barrett ot most other health food shops.

Just make sure it's raspberry leaf tea and not just the fruit tea - v different.

I'm 39 weeks/head down and "oh this baby is riiiiight down according to m/w this morning. Will be snorting clary sage tonight methinks

PazzaPlusTwo · 15/04/2008 18:17

also got arnica for bruising and about 10 quids worth of 'healthy' snacks for hospital bag

bah - double posting!

Bags packed today - apart from whatever I'm going home in and some towels in case they're not provided or not big enough for my massive post baby tum

Wonder how podglet's doing? So jealous - I want to cuddle my baby now!

newbishad · 15/04/2008 19:07

Hi all,

I am also envious of everyone who has their baby. I can't beleive I have only 6 weeks to wait. I have waited sooooo long. Years. I'll be one of the last of you though even though I am being induced because of the DVT.

Mumblesmummy,

So glad it wasn't DVT. Not a nice experience I can tell you, I was really shocked when it happened to me although I have now got used to the medication. It is such a rare condition. Trust me to have to add it to my experiences of 2 ectopic pregnancies and IVF. Glad that baby is fine! Take care.

Sweetbean

I was also referred to the CPN. She wasn't able to see me so I am seeing a counsellor at the hospital because of my anxiety. It does help to a certain extent and I hope it goes well for you.

Podglet
Hope all goes well. Looking forward to hearing your news.

Lots of love,

NS XXXX

Evening all,

I had an experince in bed when I was pregnant with DD, when I thought I had wet myself, but I hadn't had any urge to go, so maybe this was that backwaters thing?? Anyway, irrelevant as it was 2 years ago.

mumblesmummy Glad you don't have a DVT (or a DVD as all the old lady patients call it by mistake ). btw, are you from the Mumbles on the Gower in Wales, is that why you are Mumblesmummy??

Saw MW today. Not that I am complaining but my pregnancy is sooooo boring and straight forward. Nothing to report. Heart rate below 140 today so now we are back to thinking it's a boy again . Head low but not as low as last week . Probably a good thing as Robonan's funeral is next Weds, so I need to try and hold onto baby until at least next Thursday .

Tiling nearly done, will be finished tomorrow, then DH will paint downstairs loo on Friday. I've decided he can do it all this time, sod the edges. I'm too far gone to be painting etc now . Very excited about house nearly being 'all ready' for when baby arrives.

Went swimming but only managed 50 lengths as v tired today. M&D just came up for dinner which was nice. Think I am going to bed now though, need some good kip. Got a hair appt in the morning.....yipeeee!! 3 hrs in the salon doing nothing.

JBR Isla sounds like a dream, bless her. I hope you are feeling less 'baby blues' than you were. We will all be in the same boat soon enough!!

Night all

GCG xxx

goodcatholicgirl · 15/04/2008 21:26

P.S. pazzaplustwo and asicsgirl.... I am LOVING green wing too!!!

pregnabrain · 15/04/2008 21:51

howdy

Welcome back sweetbean - hope your appointment with the CPN goes well and that you get to talk things through with a counsellor. Sounds like you're doing all the right things.

Mumblesmummy - so glad to hear all is well with you and bump. Amazing about the contractions - perhaps you'll have the baby without even knowing!

I'm feeling pretty happy about the labour at the moment. Still really chilled after that hypnobirthing course. I would never have believed it would affect me so deeply. Amazing.

I can't believe how close some of you are now!!! Am 34 weeks today...still feels like a long way to go. Am going to have to endure the whole of May while you all meet your lovely babies and I wait and wait and wait...

KangaAndRoo · 15/04/2008 22:06

Hi mums to be and mums with bumps...oh and mums with babies

Long time no see.

GCG sorry to hear about Robonan...and that everything goes as well as expected next weds.

Without scrolling back to the 'due date list' Just wondering how many weeks you all have until due date??

I have 4 weeks left as from tomorrow...although i'll probably go over again!!

Did my last day at work yesterday until next year and did a mega clean today....not nesting....I soooo hope I dont get the nesting inst again this time....im so pooped!!

take care all x

mumofk · 15/04/2008 22:13

Pina- sorry, I'm on cable but it is Discovery Home and Health, and the homebirth programmes were 9 am and 9.30, so probably that every weekday, and there were the screamy hospital births on from about 8 am! Sorry about your rib/bruising thing, not had that (yet!).
Asics- I'm in Halifax, going to see my chiroprac in Hebden Friday (she's Debbie Dinc and can recommend her if you ever feel the need!). Have you found whiterose babywearers om Yahoo? There's a Hebden meet every month for mums who sling. I met up with a couple of ladies from there in Halifax last month, but I'm waiting for bump to land before I go to the Hebden meet (DD is 2.5 and walks now, haven't slinged her in months!). Last time we were on the midwife led unit too, was fabulous- used the pool (though its broken and getting fixed at the moment, there is a temporary one in the same room but the midwife says it does affect the atmosphere of the room. Glad these midwife biscuits are good for a laugh! I've had to ask DH where he's hidden them- he doesn't trust me! I'm trying to get ahead with baking bread so we've got some in the freezer- I usually bake my own (But only since being off work), but we do tend to eat it all and have to cope when we run out (for 4 or 5 hours till the next batch is done!) but that'll make it hard for 'tea and toast' for midwives!
GCG- for childcare I'm really lucky, my childminder has become a friend, and lives across the road- literally shouting distance (the other night her phone rang a 1 am and she looked out the window to see if any lights were on at ours, just in case!). She's our main standby for night time as she could be here so quick if we do have to transfer into hospital. My parents live 20 minutes away, so they're who's having DD for the longer haul. My friend/childminder is in her 50s and does before-school care for another child, so don't want to wear her out too much! So, if things kick off durng the day we'll get my parents to get DD from childminders and keep her until we give them the all clear, and if things have started in the night then childminder will call my parents at a more reasonable hour (also considering traffic, rush hour can take 40 mins for them) and they'll get her for the longer haul.
I'm hoping DD will sleep through it all and just wake up with new baby in the house, but I'm not sure how realistic that'll be! The bathroom is next to her bed, and I hope to use the shower or bath. I wasn't loud with her, and hoping hypnobirthing will be even calmer, but you never can tell!
Otter- glad you've been given positive news about active birthing, that must be a relief (and, with bump growing ok and your other tests doing ok, hopefully you won't even have that drip!)
mumblesmummy- so glad you got checked out, and everything is ok. You can have contractions you don't feel, or are 'just' brackston hicks (but for some people BH can be really painful and vile) if you're not feeling them then they'll just be the warming up your uterus'll have been doing all along, just enough going on now to register on the machine.
Raspberry leaf tea- Holland and Barrett or independant local whole foods shop. You can get tablets or the tea (never tried the tea, not a hot drink fan but sounds like you love it or hate it! Tablets are ok though IME). If you get the tablets I was told 1 week 1 a day, next week 2 a day, next week 3 a day and continue until bump lands. Some people told to start 32 weeks- 36 weeks, advice varies (in fact I think Gowrie Motha says start earlier) but the only clinical research I've found was done in Australia about 8 yrs ago, just a small study that seems to suggest it helps labour go a little quicker, but I've forgotten all the details!!

OK, the unusual thing I've noticed for today (apologies if this is TMI or just weird!) but my areolas have DOUBLED overnight, well since last time I noticed them, which I'm not exactly sure when that was . I got out of the shower today and looked down and whoah- large norkage I'm used to, but what are these saucers??!! I've just peeked again now and they still look HUGE, definataly a recent change! I've got what I've always had in terms of nipple and areola, then this extra inch or so around the edge that's a little more patchy- this looks new. Is it just me? I've seen a thread in pregnancy or childbirth recently, but I think they were talking about changes earlier in pg (I think I'm 38-39 wks now). I'll got and look there now, but just wondered if anyone here had noticed anything like it!!
Right super mammoth post, wonder if this is the longest ever??!!

Pina - a friend recommended me to sniff the clary sage to make contractions stronger and also rub it on bump ( in the carrier oil) in a clockwise direction to get things going and to make the contractions stronger once in labour.

She said that when she got to hospital and thigns slowed down a bit, they sped up again once she used the sage.

I know nothing about aromatherapy either - I'm just up for anything that'll get baby out in the open!!

Technically I'm due next Friday. MIL is here and desperate for me to get going now !!!! I'm trying my best - but really can't guarantee anything!!
