Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!

Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!

Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).

I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!

Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter

will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days

hello (waves)

wow its been busy!

Podglet - OMG! good luck for tomorrow! fingers crossed for you!

Pregnabrain - hows the pelvis doing? i had been ok with this but over last few days lifting my left leg is bl**dy painful in the groin area...

Pina - when at university i made my friend come over at 3 in morning to remove giant spider that was terrorising me... you have my upmost respect in not losing it totally, bad news re bathroom though, typical that it breaks now...

pina/GCG/mumofk - on the DH got the blues thing - he's not got the blues so much as just really bored of me being pregnant - i think he feels really left out and wants baby out so he can play, i try involve him with bump moving but i think he just feels more left out...

Azaduhi - I thought I was the only one enjoying rasberry leaf tea! its really nice - not keen on the tablets though - do keep wondering if I've got the wrong stuff...

Wolverina - we've put our cot up - mainly because i panic about things not being ready - and im a bit over-excited and want my baby...

zammummy - good luck with your flight!

Casserole/Pazza - i have also discovered the joy of lie-ins and not getting out of bed - i figure our bodies are just getting it in before we dont sleep for ages...

mumofk - apparently if you have the glucose test and it comes out at 7.8 or higher they will treat you as GD. we came in at 7.8 exactly. I'm not best pleased with all the intervention that seems to be heading our way, however its better to be safe that sorry.. i'm ok wih the idea of an induction as GD does increase the risk of stillbirth but i don't want my waters broken, am seeing my consultant tomorrow so am gathering facts and info to make my case for minimal intervention as long as baby/me not in danger... also they have said that if the 38 week scan shows that she is ok size and in no distress they will leave me for a bit, i've no chance of going over 40 weeks though.

super-long post! in other news DH has seen the error of his ways and done various jobs - he claims i'm crazy for wanting it all done now but did get a bit emotional when we put up the cot and everything now ready for little one to arrive....

goodcatholicgirl · 14/04/2008 16:07

I specialise in knees at work and the sort of thing you could injure that would cause swelling would normally be ligaments, something called bursa which are like little sacs of fluid that reduce friction between tendons, some tendons/muscle. It's just strange for it to be so sore and have just come up on it's own, with no history of injury or trauma to the knee, and also for it to be so sore. Make sure you go to the docs tomorrow!!

goodcatholicgirl · 14/04/2008 16:08

that was for mumblesmummy btw

goodcatholicgirl · 14/04/2008 16:12

Oh blimey, I have now just realised, if Robonan does actually get 'taken by the good lord' in the next day or so, my Mum is gonna be in such a flap about when to have the funeral cos of me being so close to due date (38 wks Friday). She'll be worried that either I will go into labour at funeral, or will have just had baby and not be able to go etc etc.....she is a bit of a Queen Flapper, I can just imagine what she's gonna say.......

Oh, and at all you first time mums enjoying your lie ins and not getting out of bed.....GRRRRRR!

mumblesmummy · 14/04/2008 16:12

Thanks GCG, I will go to the doctors. DP has been whinging at me all day to go as he's a worrier. I definately havn't done anything energetic enough to have hurt it, and it's a really strange place at the back of my knee.

IndigoBlue · 14/04/2008 16:43

Hi

Just waiting for dh to arrive back after him going to a 4 day stag do abroad - can't wait as I've worn myself out trying to sort out the baby's room and looking after dd etc.

GCG - hope things work out for the best with your nan, whatever the outcome is.

Mumblesmummy - sounds like you're having a hard time at the moment. Last time when I was 8 months pregnant it was hot summer and I remember my feet swelled up so much over a couple of days & I basically couldn't walk & it was awful so you have my sympathy.

For those of you enjoying your maternity leave lie-ins, make sure you make the most of it as I reckon you only get true maternity leave once - if you have subsequent babies there's no such thing as maternity leave as you still have the first one to look after which I'm finding quite hard work now running after a toddler!

PazzaPlusTwo · 14/04/2008 16:49

pregnant mums - i have NO IDEA how you do it! nuff respect!

newbishad · 14/04/2008 17:07

Mumblesmummy,

I would check in with casualty or go to the maternity service ASAP. It's very unlikely to be anything sinister but you need to get it checked out. I went about a pain in the back of my calf and slight swelling, it turned out to be a deep vein thrombosis. I am not saying this to worry you they are extremely rare (1 in 1,000 pregnancies)but you need to know so that you can begin treatment if you need it. Should it turn out to be something like that (and again it's very unlikely maybe you've pulled something or got varicose veins) it is completly treatable with medication and the chances of complications v. low. I am doing fine on my medication and I am just so greatful they caught it.
Good luck and let us know

NS XXXX

goodcatholicgirl · 14/04/2008 17:24

mumblesmummy I agree with newbishad, I would go today to A&E. Again, not wanting to worry you, but if it is a DVT, better to have it detected sooner rather than later.

Well, that was quick, Robonan passed away in the last hour. I feel such a sense of relief, my Mum can finally get her life back. It's been a long time (13 yrs of her being her main carer).

Casserole · 14/04/2008 18:08

GCG, my Mum cares for my Nan too, so you'll know what I mean when I say I'm sorry for your loss but pleased the burden will be lessened on you all and particularly your Mum. Prayers ascending for you all, may you be blessed with happy memories of her.

Take good care,

C xxx

mumofk · 14/04/2008 19:25

Otter- thanks for filling me on on GD- sounds very frustrating and scary at the same time. Hope it all works out ok for you!
Mumblesmummy- second that you need a drs opinion. You can get cysts behind your knee called a bakers cyst, which can rupture and be hot and painful (my colleagues who scan DVTs keep finding them instead of DVTs!)- just like the symptoms you get with DVTs. Is your calf swollen at all (use peice of string to compare your legs at the same point)coz that's a sign of DVT. If it is, get you to A&E now to be safer than sorry!TBH, I'd just go to A& E anyway coz I'd end up worrying all night, which doesn't do you any good either.
GCG- sorry your gran has died, but glad this last little bit has been quick, and hopefully you'll be able to share happy memories rather than how the last weeks/months have gone. Hugs**

newbishad · 14/04/2008 19:41

GCG,

Sorry to hear you news. I agree with Mumofk, hopefully you will be able to share happy memories. My mother also nursed her mother over a number of years. It was a great sense of loss when she passed away but also a relief that the suffering was now finally over.

Lots of love

Mitchell81 · 14/04/2008 19:57

GCG: Sorry for your loss.

Mumblesmummy: Hope your swollen leg turns out to be nothing.

Went for my scan today and baby is going to be a big one, top of the chart at the moment. But I knew that I suppose. They confirmed that I am having a boy, so today I cut off all the pricetags of the new baby clothes I bought. So tomorrow is baby clothes washing day- very exciting.

Zammummy: Hope your flight goes well.

Podglet: Good luck for tomorrow, look forward to hearing your birth news.

Pazza: Hope you enjoyed your day in bed, haven't had a proper lie in since 2000, enjoy it while it lasts.

Pregnabrain: hope you enjoyed your day to yourself.

Casserole: Hope you like your new haircut.

pregnabrain · 14/04/2008 21:16

Hello!

Day to myself was lush, but too short . I did actually find myself missing dd's little face after a while, though.

GCG - sorry to hear about your nan passing away, but glad to hear that your mum's burden will be lifted now.

otter - pelvis is still really sore. standing on one leg and lifting the other up more than a tiny bit is agony. is this what SPD is like then or is it just a normal late pregnancy thing? dd was so high in my abdomen I never had this problem last time.

mumblesmummy - i agree with everyone urging you to get your 'swelling' checked out. it'll probably turn out to be nothing, but you need to make sure.

have a good evening everyone...

goodcatholicgirl · 14/04/2008 21:36

mumblesmummy the cysts mumofk referred to is what the bursa are that I mentioned. It could well be that, but get it checked anyway luvvie .

Thanks to you all for your kind words of support, but also, your understanding. I feel a bit guilty that I don't feel more upset, but tbh, my loyalties lie with my Mum, and she has had no life because of the situation, for years. Thanks for not judging me .

pregnabrain ahhh, SPD, my favourite topic!!! I think that late on in pregnancy most people or certainly a lot suffer with the not being able to stand on one leg thing, with pain in the pubic region. SPD just stands for Pubic Symphasis Dysfunction. (The symphasis is where the two pubic bones meet). So really, any pain in the pubic region with inability to do things like stand on one leg is SPD, but as with most things, there are varying degrees of it, mild, moderate and severe. It's definitely very common in the end stages of pregnancy, with no major cause for concern. If you have only just started getting symptoms, it's unlikely you will suffer for long after giving birth. Hope it settles soon. I have it too at the mo, esp after all that bloody decorating ! I feel as if someone has hit me in the pubic bone with a hammer (ouch!).

My fabby brother, bless him, is absolutley knackered after a day of DD....hee hee hee!! He is not used to getting up so early (on a day off) and can't believe how tiring toddlers are!! Think he is amazed I have been coping with her and heavily pregnant....I did tell him that you adapt and get used to it .

Right, I'm off to sit on the sofa.....have a good evening all.

podglet Hope you get this in time, GOOD LUCK for tomorrow, keep us posted when you can.

GCG xxx

blobsmummy · 14/04/2008 22:43

Hey everyone, it's taken me nearly an hour to catch up on what's been going on for the last week! Can't remember most of it (sorry ) to comment on.

However... GCG Hope that all works out well for you/your mum/funeral planning etc. and that the next few weeks go as smoothly as possible.

Great to hear that JBR has had Isla - what a beautiful name .

I disappeared for a week as I've been in and out of hospital with high blood pressure, so they've been keeping an eye on me. Baby is absolutely fine, and I have no other signs of pre-eclampsia or anything nasty - no protein etc. I still keep puffing up and getting dizzy, but it's not too bad. Had a scan last Wednesday and the sonographer had much difficulty in taking leg measurements as baby kept turning and flashing himself at her - it's most definitely a boy!

Have got a home appt with the MW tomorrow, and finish work on Wednesday. DD is nearly living with MIL at the mo, so I actually feel quite well (despite not sleeping very well).

Best wishes tomorrow podglet.

Wishing you all a comfortable and restful night...x

hello everyone, thank you so much for all the lovely congratulations!

baby blues have kicked in right on schedule, i was just crying through reading all your posts, thinking of c-sections, flying home, swollen knees, lying in bed, high blood pressure - i was feeling it all with you!!!

Isla is doing so well at breast feeding, she only lost 3oz at her one week check, slept through her heel prick test, and she feeds every 3.5 to 4 hours! so last night, i fed her at 8 and went to bed, up at 12 and again at 3:30, and then again at 7:30. she takes about 40 mins to feed, so i have just handed her to her dad for a wind and a cuddle.

anyway, just thought i would say hello and say i am thinking of you all!

JBR

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Thank god I'm finally back online!!!!! what a bloody pa larva but I'm back with a much faster PC so WOHO.

I'm not even going to try and catch up with whats been going on as its over a week since i last posted and you lot are postaholics so I'm just hoping that someone will tell me if Ive missed anything major

I did see that JBR had Isla congratulations xxxxxxxx I'm hoping that no one else has popped and Ive miss it!! Please someone tell me if i have!!

Well I'm off to see the community psychiatric nurse today to see if they can get some counseling for me as Ive turned in to a complete fruit cake !! just so up and down all the time and i cry ALOT ! so hopefully they will be able to sort some thing out for me.
After that Ive got an appointment with the MV so that will be lovely as i love listening to the baby's heart beat

I'm really going to try and get this baby to come out at about 37weeks I'm going to try EVERYTHING all on the same day and hope that it works

I wanted to ask if any other second time mums are starting to feel abit "nervous" about the birth? I really did have a lovely birth with DD and up until about 3wks ago was feeling so positive about doing it all again but suddenly I'm starting to ......Well brick it!! to be honest! is this normal when i have no reason to be fearful at all.

AHH its so lovely talking to you all again ive missed you xxx

blobsmummy · 15/04/2008 09:02

Sweetbean - I'm a second time mum - and I'm ranging between scared and terrified at the mo! I'm not necessarily sure that knowing what to expect actually makes it any easier (well, it doesn't for me at least).

Hope your appt goes really well today

mumofk · 15/04/2008 09:07

Good morning all! Welcome back sweetbean, glad it sounds like you're getting the support you need, hope the counselling helps.Sounds like you're planning a busy day at 37 weeks!!!!
I'm actually quite happy waiting a bit longer to meet my LO- I'm 38 weeks now and have no inclination to hurry things up! And, sorry, I've been doing my hypnobirthing practice so I'm looking forward to the birth. I still can't believe I'm looking forward to it after bricking it sooo much last time! I am dreading dealing with a toddler when sleep deprived, and I am a little concerned about how our childcare plans will work when I actually go into labour, though.
I have turned on midwife TV (discovery home and health) for the first time the pregnancy (last time I watched it for the last month!) and started booing seeing a bump being born.It was only a 6 lb one but he looked HUGE! Awwwww, hormones. I will watch a bit more as its homebirths on next!! And I just can't face the housework just yet....
GCG- glad you're the knee expert! I only know the little bit that crops up on the DVT scans. Only our consultants 'do' musculo-skeletal (all the soft tissue, joints and stuff) but offered to train someone while I was pg- and I can't learn well/recall well when going back afterwards, so hope to take up the offer when I go back!
And thanks for the reassurance about SPD- I'm getting the hammered feeling too, and its only gradually getting worse but I'm seeing my chiropractor Friday so hopefully just a bit more reassurance!
Hope mumblesmummy is ok today...

sweetbean · 15/04/2008 09:28

I'm a complete addict to thoughts home and health shows I'm actually recording then now on sky+ so i can watch them later when DD is at the outlaws! I love the home birth storys best they always look so relaxed and there seems to be less screaming!!

goodcatholicgirl · 15/04/2008 09:50

sweetbean I'm a second time mum and I do feel a bit nervous tbh. It suprised me the other night when I thought I was going into labour, how frightened I was, even though I have done it before (and had a fairly straight forward labour). I think it was more of a 'no!! not yet, the work isn't finished on the house and I haven't had my hair or my waxing done' Ha ha ha!!!
Good luck with your appt today.

mumofk I'm a little bit concerned about childcare for DD when I go into labour too, what do you have in place? My sister lives half hr away, our CM lives 5 mins away and is happy to be on standby (during the day!). My parents live 2 hrs drive away. I'm sure it will all slot into place, but it's the whole not knowing when it's gonna happen etc. It all happened from midnight with DD. My DH works nights sometimes too, but my sis has agreed to come and stay over if he's on any night shifts between now and baby arriving, just in case. (imgaine being in labour on your own, with a toddler to contend with !!!)

Well, bro has just taken DD to the park for a couple of hours, so I have peace!! Gonna finish off sorting out rest of the bits from the kitchen, finalise packing of my hospital bag and then just chill. Got MW at 2:30pm then planning a swim. Baby feels very low today, I have a lot of pressure at very bottom of bump.

will be back later, I want to see how mumblesmummy is....

sweetbean · 15/04/2008 09:55

GCG glad your ok hun! LOL at hair and waxing how organised !! xxxxxx
