Goodnight all

vacaloca · 25/03/2008 22:24

VS (and everyone else), here are some natural induction ideas! www.radmid.demon.co.uk/alternative.htm although I personally prefer the wait for baby to chose when to come but in your case, VS, I would be trying everything! Good luck.

ThePFJ · 25/03/2008 22:31

Wow vaca... hand me a breast pump and a er...
gosh.

vacaloca · 25/03/2008 22:33

a breast pump and a... Foley catheter, I take it?

vacaloca · 25/03/2008 22:45

I'm loving some of these ideas:
"Try curb walking to help bring on labor. I know it sounds funny, but I really believe it helps. Walk along a curb, one leg up on the curb and one in the gutter, then turn around and go the other way."

If nothing else, it will amuse the neighbours.

PortAndLemon · 25/03/2008 23:54

I posted this back on our very first thread, but the time seems appropriate for a recap... there is proper scientific research showing that women who eat chocolaate in prgnancy have happier babies!

PAL, I luv you!

bunyanvillas · 26/03/2008 08:11

Yes, thank you for that PaL I am due for an ecstatic baby in that case!!! Am sitting here wondering if 08.18am is too early for a Twirl. It wasn't yesterday!!

ToastAddict · 26/03/2008 08:18

Mornin'

Scampmum - very of your House gossip! Was going to be very very if it had been Robert Sean Leonard (have been in love with him since Dead Poets!), but still, nice one!!!!

Re: "adminstration of prostaglandins the natural way" - there have been quite a few threads on MN about this in the past, as you can imagine. And the thing I picked up on is - if prostaglandins are absorbed so much better through the stomach rather than the vagina, why are the tablets/gel not given orally? Far be it from me to deprive anyone of a bit of oral (!), but it sounds like a theory that a man came up with!!!

PortAndLemon · 26/03/2008 08:26

There was also a thread that quoted levels and concluded that you'd need thirty-seven ... erm ... "doses" in one day to get up to meaningful levels that were likely to do anything.

(and yes -- a prostaglandin is a fat, so will be broken down into its constituent fatty acids by lipase in the stomach if taken orally (not even particularly interesting fatty acids, either). I too suspect a male conspiracy behind that "theory")

VictorianSqualor · 26/03/2008 08:28

LOL TA.
Maybe it's because people wouldn't want to swallow pig semen? (Yes, ladies, that's what they use to induce you)

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 26/03/2008 08:33

Oh my - not before breakfast please ladies!

Another happy baby here as well then... was also told that craving sweet stuff meant it was a girl - well I'll see how true that old wives tale is soon enough!

PortAndLemon · 26/03/2008 08:36

SImilarly, though, prostaglandins used to treat erectile disfunction have to be administered as penile suppositories (which is every bit as as it sounds), rather than taken orally (which is why Viagra was such a big hit when it came out, as it can be taken orally without having to shove anything up the end of your penis). If taking prostaglandins orally worked I think men would have been the first to try it.

bunyanvillas · 26/03/2008 08:36

I ate far less choccy last time, and had a girl. This time I know it's a boy and the choccy cravings have been staggering - even for me!

PortAndLemon · 26/03/2008 08:42

I missed that you were having a boy, bunyan. How does your DD feel about it (I remember she wanted a girl to begin with)? Fortunately DS had somewhat unexpectedly changed his mind and decided he wanted a sister even before we had the 21 week scan, although he has gone through a phase of declaring that he wants two babies, a boy and a girl (seems to have got over that now).

Denny185 · 26/03/2008 09:10

I ate ooodles of chocolate with DS and he was a v happy baby. With DD it was cheese and sausages and she was a screamer. Eaten a fair amount of choc again this time so have my fingers crossed for another happy one - thanks for my justification PAL.

Have a friend up for a couple of days now so will catch up after shes gone on Friday. Good luck to anyone contracting in the mean time.

EllieG · 26/03/2008 09:14

Mornin' all!

Congrats TMP!

LOL at christmaspixie being a werewolf, I feel a bit like that at the moment. Burst into tears all over DP this morning because I suddenly decided he wasn't excited enough about the baby. Poor man. He said 'Would you like me to do a little dance every time she's mentioned?', which made me laugh and now I feel better. Bloody hormones.

I slept for about a minute last night I think, have caught a cold, and hips were aching, plus, which was quite exciting, I was woken up with period-pain type feelings. Is that a pre-labour kind of thing? Told DP and he went a bit pale and said 'Oh but I don't want you to have the baby early, I'm not prepared' Pointed out to him that he had had 8 and a bit months, but he said he needed the full nine. Let him stew for a bit before putting him out of his misery and telling him this did not necessarily mean an early arrival!

OMG just read VS's post - PIG SEMEN!!! REALLY???????? UGH!!!!!

PortAndLemon · 26/03/2008 09:15

I ate plenty of chocolate before I was diagnosed with GD... do you think that will do? I'm happy nobly to eat chocolate while bf if it won't be too late to catch up...

bunyanvillas · 26/03/2008 09:16

PaL, dd STILL wants a sister! Poor girl is in for a bit of a shock. Ellie I, too, have been having the period pain-type feelings - and in this house it's ME that's not ready for an early arrival!!

EllieG · 26/03/2008 09:18

Am off to have some chocolate in a minute. All in the name of duty of course.

Peachy · 26/03/2008 09:20

Ah once you get to the overdue induction place, you don't care it's pig semen I can tell you LOL. You just want that baby OUT.

Have been eating loads of choccy last few days too (about only thing staying down sadly) and I know for sure its a boy.

ThePFJ · 26/03/2008 09:26

Hehe Ellie,
My DP is the same, I am always saying 'We're going to have a little baby awwwww' and he just looks at me and says 'YES, I KNOW!' rather sarcastically.
I know he's excited, just that he doesn't have a baby attached to his stomach reminding him 24/7 making him feel all gooey.

I threw up big time this morning, and have rather interesting nose bleed too.

One of DP's friends/cousin in law is having her CS today, so we should have a little Christopher James in the family soon. Her DP is too much of a wuss pants to go in with her, but has been convinced to at least go to the hospital vicinity and wait outside the room, after much coaxing.
I called her and wished her luck, she's leaving for the hospital.. 5 mins ago!

My baby - Jack Lewis (or Elsa Mary), doesnt seem to want to make an appearance still. Tick tock tick tock.

-puts the kettle on for everyone and makes toast and muffins-

Help yourselves, and enjoy your Wednesday!
xxx

PortAndLemon · 26/03/2008 09:28

They use synthetic prostaglandins (rather than pig semen) to induce labour in pigs, though, so would be odd to use pig semen in people.

Also prostaglandin E2 (Prostin, etc.), the type of prostaglandin normally used in the UK, contains dinoprostone which is a female hormone (so not commonly found in semen, unless from very confused pigs...)
