Are you thinking state or private for primary school?

It depends (staying at nursery until primary school). Some primary schools (state or private) have their own nurseries attached. If you are going private then I think it is often advantageous to have your DC in the nursery attached to the school (if there is one), but I think (could be wrong though) that state schools aren't allowed to set that as one of their entrance criteria.

At DS's nursery they basically stay until they start Reception at rising-five, yes.

Mollyfloss · 25/03/2008 12:36

You were supposed to apply when you weren't even 3 months pregnant. that is completely nuts!

I thought most of them only accept the application form once the baby is born and has a date of birth etc.

EllieG · 25/03/2008 12:43

I started someone's (I think Molly's maybe) cleaning rota today so breaks it down into managable chunks. Meant to just do my half hour but it strrrrreeeetchhed and I finished at the crack of 11.30. Clearly my house is much dirtier than other people's or I am just less efficiant. Didn't help that keep going all nesty and having to stop and sort out cupboards.

Anyway, so I have managed to Leave The House. But only as far as the internet cafe down the road to get a coffee and go on MN in a different place.

I have made a teeny start at looking at nurserys, I will need full time place from next April. Some of the ones have spoken to have said need to get LO's name down asap as they get really filled up. I am going to make serious inroads when she is here I think. Trouble is, can't decide between nursery/childminder - I wouldn't use a childminder unless they were recommended or I knew them well as have seen too much bad practice, but I saw a lovely lady who has had millions of kids on the available list, so not sure now. Think will have to ring her up. If she can do it, might be the next best thing (probably better) than having me all the time, as will be more one to one. Has anyone got any thoughts on this?

PortAndLemon · 25/03/2008 12:49

It's not really their fault with DS we only applied when he was around three months old and he got in just fine, but it's got more and more popular and the lists are filling up earlier and earlier (also there are a lot of second/third babies coming through DD will probably be in the baby room with at least three or four younger siblings of DS's classmates so siblings are taking many of the available places). They don't even advertise anywhere, and their website is just a single page with the contact details this is all word-of-mouth demand.

I may have been slightly exaggerating with September, but I remember discussing with them just after my 13 week scan (which was late September) and I think they had one place (or it might have been two places) left for a six-month start at that point. But I certainly know people who put their DCs on the list at five months pregnant and a place hadn't come up in time for returning to work when the baby was somewhere around 6-8 months (happened to a colleague of DH's who lives nearby).

DD's registration form just has surname and due date on it at the moment .

Sheds75 · 25/03/2008 12:51

wow how much have I missed over the last few day....

HUGE CONGRATS KNITTER! hope all is well with you and George, don't forget to post some pics when you able

ThePFJ · 25/03/2008 12:57

OMG Peachy.. glad it hasn't just been me!
These pains are getting on my nerves now. Go TMP! Maybe if I cheer for you my LO will start sneaking out before I can notice. Ha.
-looks sarcastic but hopeful-

Scampmum · 25/03/2008 13:01

Scorpio - you're scaring me! I guess if it does come out that quickly it will mean it's an uncomplicated birth so less likely to need immediate attention for the baby, right? I would be up for a home birth if only DD's birth hadn't been so hard (heart rate dropping, forceps but minutes away from em CS) AND my parents weren't both doctors and dead against it (think docs generally tend to have a cautious view given that in their training they see the difficult births not the straightforward ones...). I can't believe I'm panicking this much about labour being too quick (!) - last night I lay awake for about an hour worrying that DH wouldn't make it in time! (works at least 1hr from hospital)

scorpio1 · 25/03/2008 13:01

yes its always the strong healthy ones that come that fast, me thinks. it was her 5th!

christmaspixie · 25/03/2008 13:22

ooohhh! Just trying to keep up with this thread! Congrats Knitter! And all this exciting news of pains and labour beginnings is making me as still got 3 weeks to go. I've officially had enough already!! But don't finish work till end of this week, so nice to have 2 weeks rest (yeah right, with 3 yr old dd!!)

Scorpio, so sorry to hear about your Nan (((hugs)))

I would LOVE a faster labour this time. 3 days of it last time was NOT fun

Peachy · 25/03/2008 13:28

Scampmum, my Dh works away from here too- about 45 minutes drive but on a good day, occasionally he ahs to take the papers down to Exeter and I am hoping he'd have the sense to say no if he is asked to atm.

GoodCatholicGirl, sound like your MIL is as fab as mine , although she wouldn't have the chance to comment on money any more as Dh ahs refused to speak to her for over a year and we haven't seen her since Christmas 2005, when she verbally abused my SN eldest son. She won't even acknowledge that this baby is expected, we've had a few notes saying thanks etc for gifts but they never mention the baby. Dh has promised me he willc all her when baby comes, but I don't think she'll answer the telephone. She screens out calls (she has to, 90% of the county have apparently done her mischief- likely!!).

FIL fortunately si a gem, he left her a few years back and has a lovely finacee (not much older than DH!) who is pleased about the baby, and whose Mum is knitting for us lol . My aprents are great too, but don't drive so can't be relied on for babysitting which is a shame as the boys are closer to them.

Scampmum · 25/03/2008 14:04

OMFG I have just read the ear-piercing thread! What with that and Peachy's horror I am never complaining about my MIL again...

Mollyfloss · 25/03/2008 14:25

All was good at the docs. Right must get a move on with these nurseries!

scorpio1 · 25/03/2008 14:26

Good Mollyfloss I have MW tomorrow, my last appt MW reckons...eek.

I'm very tired this afternoon, having a run of BH again.

Peachy · 25/03/2008 14:37

My MW coming to the house Monday for appointment if I am stilla round- she has too many Mums to fir me in at the surgery which is for the best as boys will be with me and can trash a GP office in quick sharp time!

Denny185 · 25/03/2008 15:01

Well just s[ent 4 hours at indoor play centre for £3.50 - bargin - they wernt v busy and so didnt kick us out. Think ill go back there again on a dry day

Peachy - Im sure she wont mind me saying this - GCG MIL has a a mouth that works much quicker than her brain and is regularly making GCG's life difficult with their family rituals, increased probably by the fact that she married her only son.

Sheds75 · 25/03/2008 15:01

I have a completely none PG question. Does anyone have any suggestions for removing red wine stains from a 'cream' carpet. DP had a bit of an accident on the 'new' lounge carpet!

Denny185 · 25/03/2008 15:08

Arnt you supposed to put white wine on it?

Denny185 · 25/03/2008 15:09

If not get some 1001 carpet shampoo and dont dilute it put straight on damp sponge and scrub

Peachy · 25/03/2008 15:09

Sounds awful Denny- but trust me I know how she feels (mine called SN son a freak to his face, and we were actually asked onto this morning with ehr as the owrst MIL in the country- so its mroe empathy than anything else I can assure you! She suggested we terminate ds3 because of a 1 / 225 (IIRC) doewns risk, and tried to cancel our wedding behind our backs by phoniong up suppliers and telling them it was off- and sensing FIL round to threaten me out of it when DH was on stag night).

My personal experience is that you can't continue with these poisonous people, course it may be that she emans well- some people do- but ours doesn't, she moves from one destruction to another and has always been ike that. After she phoned dh when he was on suicide watch and had a go at him for having an easy life and not taking her worse problems seriously, we gave her a last chance- and that was the freak incident that blew it. Sadly I am a walkover and always want things patched up nicely becuase she is, after all, his Mummy. But Dh si much stronger than me and handles her far better now.

Peachy · 25/03/2008 15:10

That sounds defensive sorry - put i down to the hormones!

Sheds75 · 25/03/2008 15:12

unfortunatley we had no white wine! will give the 1001 a go

Scampmum · 25/03/2008 15:27

appreciate no help for this time but I have always found completely saturating the (wet) red wine in salt (ground) then hoovering the next day works pretty well.

TheMaskedPoster · 25/03/2008 15:50
