PFJ: The others are right. First babies can take quite a while to come out so you should get some rest before the real action starts. That's probably a lot easier said than done. We were told at our class when the contractions begin and it looks like it could be a while, you could consider having a glass of wine that might help you relax and get some rest. Otherwise maybe DH could give you a massage and you could have a camomile tea...

scorpio1 · 24/03/2008 19:32

ooh, im going to make some pg tea in a minute.

ThePFJ · 24/03/2008 19:55

thanks everyone, I am going to try and rest..things arent really progressing any quicker at the moment. took me AGES to eat dinner.. feel a bit sick now though.

Scampmum · 24/03/2008 20:57

Hello all! What an exciting day.

PFJ - how brilliant! I would eat carbs e.g. pasta, rice, baked potato, oats, cereal - something quite plain. I had steak pie and chips and didn't enjoy it all coming back up! This time am definitely going to be having slow release carb stuff (although am currently really paranoid having read the second labour/first labour thread that I will give birth in 20 minutes in the car!).

Also, I 'saved' the TENS machine till contractions were pretty painful but found out later it's supposed to have a cumulative effect so I think you're supposed to crack on with it asap. Can anyone verify that?

Had a great long weekend, now feeling very sorry for self that DH is going to work tomorrow. Wish he could be here all the time. Has dawned on me that have very little of my leave with DD in f-t childcare left. Three days, really - DH has Friday off to spend my birthday with me (Mum and MIL here to look after DD as it's nursery's staff training day) . MW on Weds (at hospital i.e. prob at least a two hour wait, basically takes the whole afternoon ), lunch with a friend (although she was due on Sat so maybe not) in Shepherd's Bush on Thurs and also have been contracted by DH's work to do some editing so that's essentially all my time gone! Oh, and the Monday after is her last full day but I have a job interview - starting Easter 09! YIKES. When am I supposed to do the rest of my nesting?

Hope everyone is OK. I am getting really tired now. And the other thing I've been meaning to ask (although might get embarrassed about all this TMI stuff if we do meet in person...) is whether anyone else's lady department feels really swollen? It's a pretty unpleasant sensation. Don't remember it from last time so is it a second time phenomenon? Will it go away? Or is it just me?

scorpio1 · 24/03/2008 21:01

ooh yes scampmum mine does - even if i haven't had sex. Also normal at this stage to go to the toilet more.

Scampmum · 24/03/2008 21:26

PHEW . I think in spite of episiotomy last time everything was relatively unscathed-looking in the end and I don't want it all to look really hideous, although that's probably unbearably vain (if you can be vain about that stuff!).

Hope you are feeling OK, Scorpio - I think you're being so brave. You seem like a lovely, sparky girl (and very tolerant, I would have killed the stepson). I'm glad there's a step-parenting forum here. I've never thought about the issues that much - and that's in spite of having had one (step-parent) since I was 12!! What a considerate teenager I must have been... I guess that's the point!!

moominsmummy · 24/03/2008 21:27

hi scampmum - my bits felt massively swollen after they put the induction gel in last time - think it's to do with cervix softening?

scorpio1 · 24/03/2008 21:29

I haven't ever had an episiotomy [family bucket emoticon] and mine hurts/feels swollen in late pg so thats OK I would want mine to look pretty too

Thanks I do try; I am doing OK, just have weird moments of OMG-it really happened. DH is being supportive. I haven't coped with dss at all this time, i find it hard anyway.

TLSM · 24/03/2008 21:54

Just off to bed good luck PFJ x

chipmonkey · 24/03/2008 22:19

Well, after all the CS's I've had my fanjo is still pristine
Unfortunately my abdomen leaves a lot to be desired, and that's visible to a lot more people!

VictorianPASqualor · 25/03/2008 07:24

Ugh, I feel really sick again, got an appointment at the hospital today though so will mention it to my doctor.

I was really sick last night and don't see how it can be a bug as my erm bowel movements are fine iyswim. I've never known anyone to have a bug that was just vomiting. But maybe they just didn't discuss it with me

As for step-kids, well, I nearly just crucified my own child She has just gone to put her boots on for school, having to wear her better ones rather than her school ones as she has fucked up the zip by pulling them on over her ankle rather than undoing them properly, and lo and behold, her better ones are now fucked too. She's had them about 3 months.

Then she goes to put on her coat and it has a rip, and she tried wearing a skirt tw sizes too small even though I've just bought her new black 3/4 length trouser/shorts type things. Arghhhhhhh.

When do they actually start caring they look like a tramp????? She is just so messy it drives me bonkers. I want to send her on ladette to lady turn her into a girl cos I'm sure she thinks she is a fucking rhino or something.

ThePFJ · 25/03/2008 08:25

Well I've just woken up, got a long nap last evening, then went to bed since nothing seemed to be happening. Have still got runs and random pains and BH but I don't think this is labour now as there are no definate contractions happening anymore.
Thanks for the support and encouragement yesterday..-hugs-
We almost did head for hospital, but I am glad now we didn't go all the way there now.
I suppose it was either a precurser to labour in the next few days or a false alarm.

Think I'll still avoid a bath just in case today and take a shower later though.

Carey87 · 25/03/2008 08:28

Morning all!

My mum was over for the weekend, and her and my DP mother threw me a surprise baby shower! All my friends were there and it was just fantastic! I had a great time! Made me feel lots better after DP SIL had her baby on Friday.

We wentr around there and I just kept thinking positive things like 'its ok, we'll have our own soon' and 'lo has a lovely older cousin' so everything good on that front. All jealousy has completely gone. Phew!

Going to finally sort out hospital bag today (but have also recorded the whole of season 3 on sky plus, so may just have to watch that )

Scorpio, I'm so sorry to hear about your nan

PFJ, good luck with it all!!!

Morning - haven't read any posts for days so hope all are well etc

Just to say - having pains and presume they are contractions this morning and have had a show ... so fingers crossed etc

will keep posted if progresses etc

Denny185 · 25/03/2008 08:47

Morning all, VS i think they start caring re their appearance once they discover the opposite sex wouldnt wish it too soon eh. My dd regularly looks like something from a circus such as today - pink tracksuit bottoms and an orange t-shirt, she will go out like that as well as i just cant be bothered with the battle. (her hair is also doing a great impression of Russell Brand at the mo - that I will brush not that much of a slut).

PFJ - sounds like a good day of pre-labour pains for you, hope it doesent give you too many days like that before the real thing.

Sorpio the fanjo cant be great if your not having sex.

Denny185 · 25/03/2008 08:49

x posts masked poster - wishing you all the best

Carey87 · 25/03/2008 08:53

Good luck Masked poster!

Crikey TMP - another one!!! It's all happening just now. How very exciting.

I hope you're ok with things having settled down again PFJ. At least your body is practicing so that can only be a good thing!

Carey - season 3 of what? Or am I being thick?

VS - sorry to hear you're not well again. I hope the doctor can give you some good advice. I'm feeling much better today - and it was both ends for me so definitely a bug. I just felt so awful though - I couldn't imagine doing anything while feeling like that, never mind having a baby.

Going back a bit, you have to wear your tens from quite early on so that the natural endorphins build up with the pain. However, putting it on too early can be problematic too because by the time you need it, you'll probably be really irritated by it. It's best to be sure that you're in early labour certainly.

EllieG · 25/03/2008 09:13

Gosh is all happening here! [gets out her pom poms and does a little encouraging dance for tmp]

VS - maybe in my case it's not a step-parent thing, but just a parent thing then....sounds like ALL children are a bit annoying from time to time, I just only have experience of the one is didn't 'born' (as she puts it) so not sure of the difference. DSD don't care what she looks like most of the time either, and generally I find her clothes all scrumpled up somewhere. On sunday she wore her best dress out for lunch and when put it in the wash I noticed it had big rips in it. Couldn't even be bothered to tell her off much about it cos it's been done soooo many times I am wasting my breath! Good thing is her horrid nan bought that for her so I took comfort in the fact that at least it wasn't my money wasted

Post yer bets here ladies - who's gonna be the first to pop -
VS
TMP
PFJ

???

Mollyfloss · 25/03/2008 09:22

Maskedposter: Good luck with everything. Keep us posted if you can

PFJ: It might have calmed down for now but its sounds like your 'rea'l labour is coming sometime very soon.

Carey: How fab is to have a surprise baby shower! I had a wedding shower in the USA thrown by my MIL's friends. It was great!

I was up at least 5 times during the night with my achy hips as usual. Thank God I can sleep in to make up for the lost sleep during the night. Normally I'm an early riser but now I just sleep and sleep until my body says get up. It's a luxury of being a first timer - no LO yet to look after early in the morning!

TLSM · 25/03/2008 09:29

Good luck at the hospital VS!

its a hard call Ellie VS isnt due till the ninth so i am going for PFJ Go PFJ go {grin] It is getting very exciting right back t work will look in again at lunch Only two weeks of work left!

Mollyfloss · 25/03/2008 09:29

It looks like TMP is heading the race right now but who knows! Maybe someone else who hasn't posted could be delivering right now! This is too much excitement for me!

So for how long can you dress a DD as you want. until they are 3? One of the advantages of having a girl is dressing them up right? I have tons of my little niece's clothes. Her Mum is Spanish and has great taste in baby clothes so the stuff is gorgeous. I have more or less finished the baby's room, just have to get DH to hang up a couple of paintings tonight. I'll try to take a pic tomorrow to show you all.

Denny185 · 25/03/2008 09:30

Youve missed Peachy off the list for possible 'poppers'

Molly - i wish i could carry on sleeping in the am , think i could possibly get more sleep when lo is here - joys of achy hips, BH's, poor bladder size and the DC - oh remind me why im doing this again.

EllieG · 25/03/2008 09:34

That sounds lovely Molly put some piccies on when you can!
We were supposed to be getting our room ready this weekend for baby - cot up, moving furniture etc, but DP's back went so is going to have to wait...

He could procrastinate for Britain, my man, am going to be VERY cross if he faffs around and leaves things til last minute and then baby comes. I have done everything to get ready for this baby, if had been up to him we'd have nothing for her. All I've asked him to do is help me move some bloody furniture and put a cot up and he can't be bothered.

Goodness me, didn't mean that to turn in to such a rant. Sorry folks.

Is my first day on own for maternity leave today. Think am a bit bored.

Denny185 · 25/03/2008 09:35

Molly if you get to 3 and still able to choose their clothes without a fight your doing well. DD got to 2/2 and 1/2 before she decided all she would wear was trousers. Shes 6 at the end of next month and the current battle is with school uniform - wanting to wear summer dresses even when minus figures and snow falling (had to hide them in the end). At weekends/holidays she wears what she likes unless going somewhere special then i roll up my sleeves for the battle
