Morning all - been awake since 4am, drifted back off for an hour. Mind was racing thinking about all the things i haven't even started yet!

Welcome excited and congratulations

Rumpel- was about how children become socialized. Finished it now, not sure it makes much sense but should be enough to pass. Only 4 more essays and an exam to go

Pigley - sorry it didn't go well. Know exactly what you mean about tears re:bad mummy. I've one this on more than a few times - like when i was told i wasn't eating enough. Try not to worry, sure the midwife will reassure you but in my strange logic if you didn't have a private scan you wouldn't be any the wiser, and if it was a problem midwife would have clocked it through examinations and 20 week scan. Hope you get a better one next time.

Minipink - wow, burst into tears when i saw you pictures, makes it very real doesn't it.

cass66 · 20/04/2008 11:20

hello all.

not much to say here. raining and tired.

pigley - think this amniotic fluid thing is a bit odd, the baby is a parasite and will take all the fluid it needs from you. so you must be really dehydrated for not drinking enough to be the cause? Anyway, have been thinking about this overnight. might be worth a phone call to your midwife to run it past her, she might want to see you if she hasn't for a while. as it was a private scan they may not let your midwife/GP know their concerns/findings.

hope I'm not worrying you, just covering all bases. it seemed an odd comment, that you don't have enough amniotic fluid cos you don't drink enough (there are other causes), but they haven't recommended you see your m/w etc. I would ring your m/w mon am.

pigleychez · 20/04/2008 11:33

Thanks for thinking of me Cass.

He didnt say anything about contacting the midwife just to drink more.

DH says maybe he meant theres not enough to get a good picture for the 4d scan rather than not enough for baby. But he didnt really make himself clear.
I wish i had asked more questions now but at the time i just want to leave asap as i knew i was about to burst into tears!

Ive been reading online and read that drinking lots came sometimes help but sometimes its because of something more serious. ie Leaking,Placenta not working properly or baby having a problem with its kidneys.
Read peoples experiences with low fluid and they had been monitored closely with weekly scans and if it got too low then they did a c section, even this early. So has been playing on my mind all night.

Im due to see my midwife on Thursday afternoon but not sure whether to ring her sooner. But dont want to be a pain as i only rang her last week about something else!
Think i may plug for an NHS scan and get them to check the levels properly to see if theres a problem or not.

Theres always something to worry about isnt there!

Libra1975 · 20/04/2008 11:42

Morning all, I am sitting here still in pyjamas being served bacon sandwiches and watching I would do anything from last night. Life is good. bit of a change from yesterday morning when I had a melt down about (in no particular order) pethidine, the baby being bullied in school and nuclear war, DH tried to keep a straight face whilt comforting me.

Pigley I want to slap your sonographer. It is very very important to keep well hydrated in pregnancy for lots of reasons and as low amniotic fluid is more prevelant during the summer months there is some thought it could be caused by dehydration however there are other things that can cause it and from the reading I have done the bottom answer is the docs don't always know. Stop beating yourself up about it and call your midwife tomorrow.
Who would have thought these little bundles of joy raises eyebrow would have us feeling guilty before they have even arrived!!

minipink - oh those scan photos made me want another scan NOW!

I hope you are all having good weekends and being pampered/spoilt! For those of you considering going to Ikea I must say even 21% off wouldn't make me brave enough to darken those doors on a weekend!

Libra1975 · 20/04/2008 11:45

Pigley - sorry didn't read your answer before responding, just to add you are not being a pain, they are midwives, part of their job is to reassure mothers and give them advice and support.

Libra1975 · 20/04/2008 12:33

Warning Watching Zone Reality - Babies on the Brink whilst 27 weeks pregnant is not a good idea unless you have a DH to westle the controls out of your hand mid sobs and change channel to watch the cricket (he says it was for my own good).

I think the bizarre thing was seeing a baby lying there hooked up to all these machines and looking like a baby and realising you have one of those in your body. ok yes I know i am pregnant, and I've had the scans but there was this little thing lying there on the TV and I have one of those inside me the same age and size. I'm going to be a mummy. O h g o d.

sweetkitty · 20/04/2008 12:56

Libra - I don't think you ever actually believe you are going to have a baby until you actually have him or her. I remember when DD1 was born just staring at her for hours couldn't believe she was mine.

Some days I think "OMG I'm going to be a Mum of 3 how did that happen?"

pigleychez · 20/04/2008 13:14

Know exactly what you mean! I watched a baby program on one of the sky health channels yesterday and a woman was rushed in for an emergency c-section. She was 34 weeks but baby was the size of a 28 week old.

I said to DH "oh my god, look at that baby! I have one that size in me!!!"
Its amazing to think thats whats actually inside your tummy. I was stunned as to how it fit in there! Bump doesnt look big enough!

Bit of a shock to the system and a reality check!

shortshafe · 20/04/2008 15:16

afternoon all, our visitors have gone and I'm feet up on the sofa, enjoying a piece of double chocolate cheesecake (getting my essential fatty acids)- yummy!!

JODIE - thanks sooo much for the offer of the ticket - can I let you know this week? Not sure if DH/mum may want to come too, so we might go Friday instead.

MINIPINK - gorgeous pics, made me all gooey

LIBRA1975 - I agree that even 50% off couldn't get me into ikea at the weekend - weekday evenings only, and meatballs are a must!

welcome to EXCITED, any more lurkers going to declare themselves?! wonder if the headcount could reach 100?!

PIGLEY - don't sonographers have to refer you to your midwife if they think here's a problem? I'm sure mine did, we had an early private scan and I think we had to fill in a form with details on in case they needed to contact the doctor/midwife. Anyway, my point is that if he didn't say you needed to contact someone, your fluid level can't be low enough to be a worry for the baby, but do ring your midwife and get checked out - it's what they're there for!

DD has just been invited to a birthday party, and I'm having a hormonal stress about wether anyone there will play with her, as she won't know anyone! DH has told me to get a grip - think he's probably right!

Thinking of you DISNEY.

Libra1975 · 20/04/2008 15:23

Sk well if you don't know how you became a mum of 3 then I would prepare yourself for a fourth at some point

Pigley - lol, I did turn to DH mid-sob and ask where was the baby hiding itself as I don't reckon I am big enough!

" double chocolate cheesecake" you see I was debating whether to go to Tesco before it shuts as we have no food in the house, I had decided that I couldn't be bothered to get out of my PJs (I'm practicing for when the baby is born) but now I am wavering again, even tho the original reason was to buy fruit rather than cake.

RUMPEL · 20/04/2008 15:27

Great pics MINIPINK.
PIGLEY - you now have something else to look forward to - baby will be big and bouncy by 32 weeks and it will still be exciting. Don't feel bad - at least you found out now so you can drink and fill up!

Welcome EXCITED.

Dh and his friend never finished the greenhouse - by the time this blooming thing is built it will be too late to grow anything harumph!

His friend was lovely though and DD loved him to bits.

Took DD out a wlak today and introduced myslef to a neighbour who is also pg - due June. She seems really nice so I am hoping we might become friends as I don't know anyone here yet.

Have booked a wee holiday at Crieff hydro for the beginning of May (I should be finished Uni by then)I booked in for a prenatal face and body treatment at the salon, then booked the hotel DH and I will get ababysitter for the Sat night - it will be our second meal just the 2 of us since DD was born.

Well I must go do some tidying up. Have a good weekend all...xxx

DISNEY - still thinking of you xxxx

TJuice · 20/04/2008 15:40

hi all!

lovely sunny day here and i had brunch with my upstairs neighbours then went to a flea market, where i got a brand new Tiny Love cot bumper/first book that I wanted. I also got a lovely scarf and a Paul and Joe silk top from some models selling off their swag. So a little baby stuff and a little me stuff - nicely balanced . . .

Pigley, don't feel like you are a bad mum about the amniotic fluid thing. I know its natural to feel like that but honestly, these things are usually totally beyond our control. You sound like the most conscientious and careful mum-to-be.
i think your dh is prolly right - if it was worryingly low - surely the sonographer would have suggested you go to your dr or hospital or something?

That Zone reality programme sounds really interesting though i probably would get upset too. its mad to think we have viable humans inside right now and they are really quite big now. imagine what they will be like in another couple of months! and we have to get them out too . . .

sweetkitty · 20/04/2008 18:00

Afternoon all just been out and bought some lovely profiterole dessert thing for after dinner, mmm. DP has been a honey today apart from doing the majority of the housework, I had a nap and he let me sleep for 2 hours, took the girls out. Feel all refreshed now maybe thats whats missing I need a 2 hour nap every day. Now just to get one....................

Tjuice - flea market sounds divine. Personally I can't wait to meet my little girl, we've always felt that there was someone else missing from our family and hopefully once she is here we will feel complete. I'm sure she will be completely different to the other two as well.

Rumpel - Crieff Hydro, you lucky thing

Libra - lol @ mum of 3 comment, if only you knew how much scientific planning has went into each of my pregnancies, it's the anally retentive scientist in me, theres not much about my cycle I don't know

shortshafe - of course your DD will have someone to play with, I've found at that age children don't really play with each other as such but play beside each other IYSWIM, or runabout mad after each other is more like it, she will have a ball.

excitedfornumber2 · 20/04/2008 18:11

Good evening all, thank you so much for the warm welcome. ive just finished tidying up and am taking a little break before bathing ds, im a little worried about my hospital appointment tomorrow, having a scan to check the measurements as at previous hospital and mw appointment bump was measuring about 6 cm bigger than it should argh. Also going to check my waters arent about to start leaking as this is what happened at around the same time last pregnancy, it cant happen this time, cant be doing with going in and out of hospital.

Hope your all having a relaxing evening

pigleychez · 20/04/2008 18:16

Hi Ladies,

Been lovely and sunny here and even pretty warm!

Ive been wanting to get out in the garden for ages and today was my chance. Ive spent the afternoon planting up my new flower bed.
We filled in the pond the end of last summer, knowing this LO would be coming sooner or later. It was a huge job! but finally the garden is looking good with just little jobs left to do.

Thanks everyone for your advice about the fluid levels. Well i decided to email the guy who did the scan to see what he meant exactly about the fluid being low.
He said that he had seen better levels at my gestation but it wasnt dangerously low or anything. But it was too low for the 4d scan.
He offered me a free scan to check the levels if i was really worried but im just happy to know that baby isnt in any danger.
Im still going to drink more as i know i never drink enough at the best of times. Plus we have rebooked the scan for 3 weeks time and the extra drinking should increase the chances of getting a good pic.

Hope everyones had a good weekend.

excitedfornumber2 · 20/04/2008 18:19

Pigley - im so glad you called and got some more info, at least you may be able to sleep better tonight, wish i could get out in the garden, apart from the rain, dp needs to finish it off, have threatened that it needs to be finished for the summer, so that me and the ds's can spend my maternity leave out there!! heres praying for a nice one

pigleychez · 20/04/2008 18:26

Excited- Thats my plan too! I love pottering about out there and have this vision of enjoying may maternity leave lounging in the sun! We'll see!

We spent the end of last summer with a garden that looked like a building site as the old pond took up half the garden! The plan was to get as much done as possible before i got pregnant so that i could help out- and nag DH to get on with it!

Good luck with your scan tomorrow. Im sure it will be fine.

Verso · 20/04/2008 21:27

Hope you won't mind me gatecrashing the thread - I'm not sure if any of you will remember me but I was on this thread then had my 2nd missed m/c just before Christmas. Anyway - I thought you might like to know I'm 7wks pg! Wish me luck... saw the HB on Friday but I am only too aware that anything can happen.

Good luck to all of you too - not long to go now!

sweetkitty · 20/04/2008 21:36

I remember you Verso congratulations I know what it's like to see an antenatal thread go on without you, it's hard around the time of your EDD when everyone on the thread is having their babies but you do get through it. Wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy and will keep an eye out for your announcement.

carrieHD9 · 20/04/2008 22:14

Verso- very, very best wishes to you and best of luck! I've been through 2 m/c also, it's really hard. So pleased for you with your news, take care xx

Kaz1967 · 21/04/2008 01:08

Sorry girls can't cope with going back and seeing what everyone has been up to while I was away. Cant believe I am now 27 weeks and into trimester 3

When out with friends Sat night Rocky kicked so hard they broke my belt that was holding up my skirt so I now have braces lets see them do it to them I also bought my self some proper maternity trousers from Mamas and Papas so I now have 2 really comfortable things to wear

isaidno · 21/04/2008 07:40

Gosh you lot have been chatty this weekend!

Glad to hear you've got more info pigleychez, and feel better.
Great news from Verso - I'll keep everything crossed for you xx

I woke up at 4am feeling all wet. I thought my waters had broken. Then I realised DS2 had got into bed with me and peed himself...

JODIEhavingababy · 21/04/2008 08:39

Hi all, I second Isaidno, busy weekend on here..

Pigley you didn't get your scan on Saturday I can imagine how disappointing that would have been, but that you've had some answers and it wasn't too serious! Good luck for a few weeks time, I'm sure you'll keep us posted though!

Hello and welcome excitedfornumber2.

Sweetkitty, I was thinking about you last night, how are you feeling now? Are things getting a little better?

Kaz, welcome back! Hope you had a nice time away?

Shortshafe - just let me know, no rush, I was planning on going alone anyway coz unless it's my mum or DH that I go with, I prefer shopping alone, so I can dilly dally about at my own leisure!

Minipink - great news about your scan and the pictures are amazing!

Disney - If you're lurking, I hope you're OK.

gillythekid · 21/04/2008 09:31

Hi all, had out first hypnobirthing session yesterday. We were a little sceptical beforehand but within the first few minutes we were SO glad we'd discovered it. Watching the DVD of mothers using the technique in labour was a real revelation, a world away from every delivery I've ever seen or heard about. I'm now really looking forward to the birth and DH is revelling in the fact that he'll play such an active role.
I'm going for an informal interview today re a job on the Olympic project next year (I'm a carpenter) Hopefully they'll take me on when baba is a year old. Would love to be working now but trying to get a job on a building site/in a workshop with a bump is REALLY difficult, being female in the construction industry is bad enough, but pregnant? Forget it!
Hope everyone is feeling well and happy and if not, able to have a good old moan on MN.

JODIEhavingababy · 21/04/2008 09:34

Wow Gily, A carpenter! that's cool (I have no idea why it's surprising, but it is!) I'd love to do something 'practical' I've evn thought about retraining as a plumber or something, but he thought of putting my hands down someone elses toilets eugh.....
