Thread title reflects the fact that every day that passes it dawns on me a bit more

Right all, don't laugh, but I think I'm having a PFB moment (and yes, I know this is baby no 3!). Anyway, we're going to move DD1 into her own room before the baby arrives, and the baby will go into the bigger room with dd2 (eventually). The problem is that we live in quite an old house, which has a somewhat, um, random design. Because of this, you cannot hear the children in both bedrooms at the same time using one baby monitor( with me so far?). So, if the baby monitor is in the big room with dd2 and dd3, I won't be able to hear dd1 if she is crying (she's 4, BTW). I'm thinking about getting another monitor for dd1 - am I being mad?? Please note the monitor never stays on during the night, as I can hear the children well enough when we're upstairs in bed, it's just when we're downstairs and they're upstairs. And you definitely cannot hear the children without the baby monitor (as witnessed the night I forgot to turn it on, was in the kitchen then moved into the living room and only then heard a faint noise from upstairs. Went up, 2-yo DD1 was howling and hysterical, and said 'Mummy, I was crying and you didn't come!" [guilty mother emoticon]

Oh, and I've also seen on the web American baby monitors that have 2 baby units, so you monitor 2 rooms at one time but I can't find them in the UK - has anyone seen them?

OK, you can all PYSL now (especially those with >3 children who've never bothered with a monitor ever ever)

Re: the birth thing I have had two "natural" births with just G&A and I am starting to dread going through it all again. I think part of the thing with a natural birth is that if you go into labour by yourself you cannot do much about it, your are going to have a baby and thats that but if you have an induction or an elective cs you know when it's going to happen IYSWIM that would scare me. But everyone is right who cares how they get into the world as long as they are here and you both get through it.

libra1975 - I think a second hand breast pump is fine it all gets sterilised (or thrown in the dishwasher if your me). I got on fine with my mini medula pump, eventually could get about 8 ozs in 10 mins with it. Hannah is lovely btw. Think we are definitely stuck on Bethany.

Jodie - my one pile has made a return as well, keep forgetting to stick some cream on it.

Tjuice - definitely don't think csections are safer or easier TBH theres a thread on here about it now, Americans are just so scared of litigation that they opt for a CS too easily IMHO. They are life saving where necessary though. It's afterwards that would be difficult with the no driving or lifting, it's major surgery, I don't know how I would cope TBH with the other two. If you had any other abdominal surgery you would be resting taking it easy for weeks but with a CS you are expected to take care of a newborn as well always seems crazy to me. Even with two natural births behind me I might need one you just never know.

Poledra - I'm not the best person to ask never having had a baby monitor. When my DD1 cries at night she comes and finds us so it's not really an issue for us. Am dreading DD2 coming out her cot as well.

NikNakF · 14/04/2008 13:31

Hi guys,

I hope you are all well. Trying to catch up!

Went for a 4D at the weekend, so worth it to see the little man playing in his little world.

A note about Jacuzzis etc, the doctor side of me. Be careful having anything more than warm baths etc - I had a patient recently who externally was very cold, 34degs but internally over 40degs i.e. boiling. Heat/being heated is incredibly deceptive, just wanted to share that. I hate the sticky beaks also... As for the peanut thing, it you don;t ever have them then the baby will never be exposed to the antigens and therefore is bound to have a reaction as soon as he has one, right?

It's all madness!

Have a lovely day x

mummypig · 14/04/2008 14:39

Hi poledra does your dd1 often cry in the night? Like sweetkitty's dd1, our boys also come and find us if they are upset in the night. So we haven't had monitors since they were babies. But then ds1 has slept pretty soundly ever since he was about 2 and I rarely have to worry about him.

Perhaps you could make it a positive feature of the new room - explain to her that you would be happy for her to come and find you in the night if she's upset? Would that work or would it be the cue for regular nighttime visitations?

I was hoping to put ds1 in his own room and have even talked to both of them about it in preparation, but I'm not sure if we will really get it done in time or if it's better just leaving it for now. The boys seem pretty happy in the same bedroom and it's right next to ours, and I expect the baby will be in with us for quite a while especially if he's anything like ds2 was.

isaidno · 14/04/2008 14:41

poledra - I'm on number 3 and I don't think you're mad to want to be able to hear your pfb!

You could buy a 2nd cheapy monitor, just to use when she's in bed and you're downstairs. Or you could explain, that if she really needs mummy she can come out of her bedroom to shout (this might create more of a problem than it solves though!) Could you put the existing monitor somewhere it can pick up noise from both rooms? A landing or stairwell?

shortshafe · 14/04/2008 14:49

PaulaYates - am taking 2 sachets of spatone a day, hope it gets to work soon and makes me feel better! It does seem easier on the tummy than iron tablets - although it's giving me awful wind

I had a 2nd hand breast pump from a friend, packed it away in the loft so will need to hunt it down again, don't see a problem with it myself!

Libra1975 - think my lo has ADD 'of the womb' too, he kicks and moves constantly, am sure dd didn't move anywhere near so much! Anyone else think dc2 moves more than dc1 did? Is there a scientific explanation?

Poledra - I'm still using a monitor as I seem to sleep too deeply to be woken by normal volume screaming and no, we don't live in a mansion either! Would the monitor pick up noise from both bedrooms if left on the landing between the 2? I seem to recall the Tomy monitors being avaialable with 2 listening bits. Mothercare or somewhere would be able to tell you, I think!

Cass - as long as baby comes out safe and well that's all that matters. I had an emcs with dd and am hoping to vbac this time, will be booked for a planned cs if I've not popped by 42 weeks, as am refusing induction. I definately felt a bit cheated last time, and some sense of failure, not helped by people's reaction "oh dear, maybe you'll manage naturally next time!" Thanks! However you give birth it's still one hell of an achievement!

ichef · 14/04/2008 14:57

Poledra - I bought a two unit monitor for my sister when I was back in the USA, can't you find them on ebay?

Going for my scan today so wish me luck, finally going to find out what we're having although I'm over 99% sure it's another boy

sweetkitty · 14/04/2008 15:45

Best of luck ichef how exciting for you, I had another dream last night about BFing a baby boy, thats two now do you think DD3 has sprouted something, can you imagine if she had? DD1 would have a fit and the poor boy would be dressed in pink for a while?

Been out in the garden all afternoon with my friend and her two DSs one is 9 months and a lovely chubby baby, the other one spent the time fighting over who got to play in the play car with the DDs. Keep thinking come end of July/August we will all have newborns out in the garden with us.

MissPaulaYates · 14/04/2008 17:13

ooh good luck ichef - do check in later!! exited!

re monitors i am a terrible monitor bore and use them a lot - i will need to have another for when dc6 pops along

i dont know if they will interfere with one another though!

Poledra · 14/04/2008 17:21

ichef - probably really stupid question, but wouldn't I need to get an adaptor for a US monitor too, as it would only have a two-pin plug? Ebay does have some, but they're all coming from the US, so I was assuming they would all be for the US power supply.

pigleychez · 14/04/2008 19:48

Hello,

Libra1975- Yes! My LO is very active (first baby) Always on the move in there. Mentioned to my midwife about the movement and joked with her about ADHD. She said its a good sign. Shows baby has plenty of oxygen and is happy in there.
Like the name Hannah too

cass66- I think the time has flown by! I cant believe ive only got 89 days till my due date!

NikNakF- Glad you enjoyed your 4d scan. Im having one on Sat and cant wait! Did you get any decent pics?

ichef- Any news yet? pink or blue?

Sweetkitty- Cant wait to be out in the garden with LO. Lets just hope we have the weather for it!

Now half way through my second square of knitting! Quite pleased with myself- doing better than i thought i would! Cant wait to finish it and say "I made that!"

ichef · 14/04/2008 19:52

Just came back from scan, very glad to find out I was right and we are having another boy which is fantastic, I'm very happy and so is dh we both really wanted another boy (would've been happy with a girl but ykwim) now I'm gonna start obsessing with the name feels good!

Poledra - yes you will need an adaptor but you can find them at Tescos the only thin you have to make sure before buying is if they're bi-volt because in the US the voltage is lower then here and also don't buy for too much because you'll probably have to pay tax on it.

Awww, another ds, so fantastic!

pigleychez · 14/04/2008 19:56

Thats great ichef

Brillant news..... any name suggestions yet?

sweetkitty · 14/04/2008 20:51

Congratulations on having a boy ichef, two of a kind is fab.

pigley - I need to get myself sorted out and get some more yarns for knitting. My little girl is an active one as well, you can see my stomach bounce up and down.

MissPaulaYates · 14/04/2008 20:57

ichef wow well done ! your children are stunning btw!

how come your scan is so late? i am 28 weeks! is this an extra scan?

libralady · 14/04/2008 21:11

Evening all, hope everyone is keepin as well as they can be.
Had MW appointment today and she put my mind at rest about my size. I've been having various comments about how small I am, am I sure the baby was growing alright (from MIL) and when she measure me I am spot on for my dates (29 weeks tomorrow). I still weigh 4lb less than when I started this preganncy though!!!! MW was not worried, she says's I am really neat. BP fine, back fine, just mentioned the craps I've been getting and she's recommended tonic water (without the gin though), turkey, leafy green vegetables and of course bananas. Something to to with magnesium.
I really am beginning to think if I have a few more children I may get down to a size 8. Before DS I was a generous 18-20 and after he was born I was a 16. Now I am a 14 (although my pregnancy clothes are hanging on me I have to keep hitching them up and I can still fit into some pre-pregnancy clothes, although these do get uncomfortable after lunch. I hoping after this LO is born I may even be a 12.
I was a bit worried that all my movements seem to be below my belly button, despite my obvious bump above, but MW thinks baby is breach and as the leg muscles are stronger, this is why I'm only feeling the movements down below.
Seeing her again in 2 weeks to get my certificate to fly. Can't wait for my holiday.
Had a fab time at the weekend for DS's birthday treat. He was made over with his outing to Paulton's Park. Even managed to have three rides myself, albeit on the tractors and the small viking ships with the children. Weather was reasonable, but I am so tired now. Might even head off to bed in a mo.
Tale care LL
P.S. My reset button still isn't working. If I press it it goes back to Saturday. Is anyone else having a problem with it? I like to reset so I can easily find where I got up to previously iyswim.

MissPaulaYates · 14/04/2008 21:16

libra lol at 'craps' took me a while to suss out!

sweetkitty · 14/04/2008 21:17

me too lol

libralady · 14/04/2008 21:45

Sorry I obviously meant cramps. It's amazing what a differnce a small m can make isn't it?

sweetkitty · 14/04/2008 21:47

could be worse you could have missed out the m and replaced the p with a b

pigleychez · 14/04/2008 21:51

I thought you were meaning Diahroea(sp?) or squits as DH so beautifully puts it!

libralady · 14/04/2008 21:53

Blame it on pregnancy brain/fingers.

I really must head off to bed.

libralady · 14/04/2008 21:54

Love your way of thinkinf SK.

Wouldn;t that be awful in pregnancy. Not that I've ever had the 'pleasure' at any other time thank god!

libralady · 14/04/2008 21:55

My fingers are all over the place. Right then banana and bed methinks.

sweetkitty · 14/04/2008 21:59

Do you like the pram I like, DP says no way he is pushing it
