Hi all, hope you had a nice weekend?

Congratulations Disney, how lovely, Esp lovely for your DD to have a mum who will be up to date! My mum amd MIL just keep saying, 'well you could eat X in my day and it never did us any harm...' etc etc, very useful!

I've had such a lovely weekend, yesterday did the 'loft thing' and got evr so impatient, I want a baby to fill all these lovely clothes, but I can't believe how much we have already, i won't need to buy a thing although it will save me a whole heap of cash!!

And today DH took DS and dog off the the peak District for a long walk, so I went to them gym with my friend and had 1 hour just gentle excercise and a back, shoulder and neck massage, then a lovely swim! Bliss

BTW, Does anyone know why we can't go in the jacuzzi? I didn't realise we couldn't until this woman came up to me and started ranting about how I was damaging my un-born child! silly moo!

cass66 · 13/04/2008 20:29

jodie, I think the jacuzzi thing is to do with overheating. along with having to avoid saunas and steam rooms. I still go in the jacuzzi at the gym as I am used to hot baths, but I have compromised and don't get my shoulders under the water so don't get so hot. and I have been putting more cold water in my baths too. pre-preg I would get out of the bath and have to lie down for 10mins, it was so hot.

Anyone have experience of the tooth fairy?? my 5 yr old's first wobbly tooth came out today, and she is fast asleep awaiting the tooth fairy to come and leave her £1! my 3 yr old who shares the room is also fast asleep as she is scared of the tooth fairy and doesn't want to see her!! So an easy night for me, as long I don't forget to swap the tooth for the money!

TJuice · 13/04/2008 20:46

why do people feel the need to get so in your face about that stuff? i mean, it would be cool if she said "be careful not to overheat in there - some schools of thought don't recommend jacuzzis" or something but to start ranting is so uncalled for. i can't imagine every being such a sticky beak . . .

TJuice · 13/04/2008 20:48

does anyone here think its worth renting an electric breast pump? I bought the tommee tippee one while i was in england (bought it in tescos then saw it for supercheap in TK Maxx - that is just the best shop for kiddie stuff) but was wondering if i should rent one for a month or two to get my supply up at the beginning?

also - what do you store expressed milk in, if you freeze it?

libralady · 13/04/2008 21:02

Is anyone else finding the reset button not working?

sweetkitty · 13/04/2008 21:23

Tjuice - don't know about hiring a pump I bought a mini Medula one you plug into the mains, it came with it's own bottle but I poured the milk straight into a bottle then froze the bottle. I would then defrost it and stick a teat on it and away you go. You can get special containers and bags for BM though.

I have a "thing" about jacuzzi's anyway, a friend of mine did a project on them and unless they are really clean they can be mancky with bacteria. She really put me off as she said people sit on the jets and they go up their bums I'm a wee bit funny about swimming pools as well but they have a tonne of bleach in them.

BrownOwl18 · 13/04/2008 22:23

Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

Cass, I went to the NCT sale as well. I heard someone say they didn't realise there were so many pregnant women in York! We got quite a few bits - mostly clothes - so I can cross things of my list and at least look organised on paper!!

We still get visits from the tooth fairy here - DS had to have 2 canine teeth extracted in the Easter hols (as there's no room for his adult teeth). Not the ideal way to spend the day for either of us and it would appear that if suffering is involved the tooth fairy has to stump up twice the amount

TJuice · 13/04/2008 22:31

oh great, sweet kitty. i just bought that exact one on ebay for £21, with lots of bags and bottles and coolers and stuff, so i think i am sorted now.

shortshafe · 13/04/2008 23:11

Hi all, not been on for ages - think I've managed to catch up, took me ages though!!

Congrats disney - 2 babies in a family is really special, especially when you're so close.

I wore PJ's with strappy tops - tesco did great black ones - and just hoicked my boob out as and when needed - I have no shame though and would happily breastfeed in front of most people. I used cheap vest tops under normal tops too, as although not shy about my boobs, my tummy doesn't ever get shown in public!!

Tooth Fairy - dd is too little yet, but my goddaughters get £1 per tooth too.

Jodie - the sauna/jacuzzi thing is about heat - supposedly not good for the baby. I'm a great believer in listening to your own body - if you felt fine in there, baby probably did too, some people just can't help sticking their noses in!

Libralady - my reset button is working but I've got no pages, the whole thread is appearing on one page! Odd.

Anyone else feeling exhausted all the time? Everything is a struggle at the moment, I moaned at the midwife and she took a blood test, I'm anaemic apparently and she's advised iron supplements. I'm taking spatone, the water based stuff, as it's supposed to be kinder on the body. I took iron tablets after dd was born and they made me feel awful!

oops, huge post - must post more regularly!

MissPaulaYates · 13/04/2008 23:22

tj - i always hire a pump right from the start and pump from well before they advise

dc1 was 'starved' and i am always paranoid so like to make sure i have loads of milk - a hospital grade pump (for me) ensure - no panic if baby sleeps through a feed or has a picky day or two - as i just pump off the excess

the hand pumps i find a bit 'nippy' but the one i hire ( ameda egnell) is so calm and gentle - and very quick

also never get mastitis as you can ensure a fully empty breast

by no means essential but i personally have found them very helpful

shortshafe I am also taking spatone and it is very gentle - check the dose though - two sachets a day onl just keeps my iron high enough

MissPaulaYates · 13/04/2008 23:23

disney - how lovely for you!

carrieHD9 · 13/04/2008 23:36

Hi all,
Pigley, I second isaidno on the cheapo Primark nighties- done fine for me so far, and everyone tells me anything you wear in hosp you'll want to throw away afterwards, so will be getting a couple more for then!

Worrying about my hot baths now- they're def not as hot as before- don't have that fainting feeling when I get out- and make sure the bump always sticks out- somehow I think this makes it easier for baby to cool down?!? Have been having baths regularly as helps with back pain and then sleeping- is it really that ill advised? Ditto jacuzzi, I never get that hot in them anyway- I figured it was more to do with pressurized air than heat?

Disney, congrats to daughter!

isaidno · 14/04/2008 07:52

Is anyone else dying of thirst? For the past few nights I have been waking up with a bone dry mouth, needing water. I have a cold (coming to its end now) so am breathing through my mouth more. I'm thirsty in the day too, and my mouth tastes metallic.

disneystar · 14/04/2008 08:09

isaidno are you eating enough?
also it might be worth mentioning to your mw to get your bloodsugar levels tested.

JODIEhavingababy · 14/04/2008 08:15

Morning,
Thanks for the advice on the jacuzzi situation! that woman really wound me up, nosey cow! I have hat baths at home and felt fine in the jacuzzi, as if Id do anything to hurt my baby!

ISAIDNO - I am coming through the worst of a cold too and I was ever so thirsty, mainly at night (pain in the bum as I need to keep going to the loo) I think it must be the snoring!

As for cheap nighties, I've got some from last time from Matalan that did me in hospital, but have treated my self to some lovely PJ's from Mothercare as this will (according to DH ) be my last pregnancy I wanted something nice, and I am wearing them already, so will get my moneys worth!

Sorry long post again today!

sweetkitty · 14/04/2008 08:31

Morning all

I love the "are you ALLOWED" to eat peanuts people. Who are these people who allow you to do things in pregnancy, are they monitoring us and if we have a bit of Brie we get carted off?

I'm also getting "oh you'll be hoping for a boy then?" "no we know it's a girl" "oh but what if it's a boy?" I don't know take him back with the receipt and ask for a refund? What are you supposed to say?

People eh? Why do they go all funny when they see a pregnant woman? The other day I was in the supermarket and swung into a space (wasn't even P&T) and just beat an older maybe in their 50's couple to it. You should have seen the looks I was getting getting out the car, I had a DD in each hand and am pregnant but because I had stolen their space and they had to walk an extra 10 feet to the store you think I had robbed them. Probably moaning about young people having loads of children or something.

Oh I'm on a rant now better go get something done now Tescos is due soon and I'm still in my PJs.

JODIEhavingababy · 14/04/2008 08:51

Oh Kitty I know, It's really winding me up now when people ask me what I'm having, when I say another boy, they look at me with pity and ask if I'm going to try again for a girl??? As if I'm not happy with my lot!

Libra1975 · 14/04/2008 09:24

Morning all,

Hope everyone had good weekends sounds like there has been much buying and nesting

Disney congratulations on the
becoming a grandmother (am I allowed gto use that word?)

Shortsafe I am with you on the exhausted thing, as I told DH I am just so tired of feeling tired the whole time!

Does anyone else think it is icky to share breast pumps (not at the same time!! second hand), someone I know pulled a face when I said I was going to borrow one.

I am still enjoying feeling the LO kick but does anyone else ever feel that their babies might be suffering from ADD in the womb and that no-one has told the baby it is suppose to sleep for 18 hours a day.

Think we have finally come up with a girls name, we both like Hannah.

I am not sure what the current advice re pregnancy and jacuzzis are (probably DONT DO IT along with everything else they are not sure about) but I have to say a jacuzzi pummelling me at the moment sounds like heaven.

mummypig · 14/04/2008 09:36

hi again everyone

I think secondhand breast pumps are fine, after all every part gets sterilised pretty regularly. My sister and I, and a good friend, have passed breast pumps and parts between each other for years depending on who was bf at the time. Watch out for the silicone parts though (e.g. the soft 'massager' part on the AVENT hand pump) as they seem to degrade after a while and might need replacing. But you can order individual parts online as opposed to buying a whole new pump.

I know some people are really strange about secondhand stuff for babies, one woman I know wouldn't accept any bottles or teats unless they were unused, as she'd heard they had to be thrown away after 3 months use .

As expected, I have had loads of 'sympathetic' comments about us having a third boy. I just have to put on a smiling face and let them ride over me.

JODIEhavingababy · 14/04/2008 09:45

I too used a second hand breast pump, I'm not fussy! again, I was in the mind set that it all gets washed and sterilised anyway!

I think I;ve got my forst 'pile' it really hurts.. Anyone of you clever ladies know what I can use on it?

JODIEhavingababy · 14/04/2008 09:46

Oh and Hannah is a lovely name

cass66 · 14/04/2008 10:21

jodie, get some anusol (or anusol HC if you can) from the chemist, no need for a prescription. and avoid constipation and straining. but it's another lovely hazard of pregnancy!!!

feeling knackered and blue today. am booked for an elective section as have had 2 prev emergency ones, and now feel really down about it. part of me really wants to try again, even though success rates of VBA2C are low. I just don't really want to go throught the op again, this time 'choosing to'. I know this is really selfish, and a section is the better option for me, the baby and my family, but I just feel down about it. must have been going to the NCT sale!

sorry for the rant. husband has been away for 5 days now, due back late tonight, so I have been on my own with the kids. so am knackered and have to get through today too. And a mum at school said 'hasn't it gone quick' - NOOOOOOOO, I feel like I've been pregnant for bloody ages!!!

rant over. thanks girls. cass

TJuice · 14/04/2008 10:36

cass - hope you feel more cheery soon. i have heard that some women feel cheated by caesareans but sometimes i feel quite terrified by the thought of a vaginal birth and feel like i would rather have abdominal surgery than that (especially when i have been watching birth videos on youtube!). i know that it won't be so bad - but sometimes you get a mental block with certain things . . . .
I have noticed a certain female machismo (if there can be such a thing) about natural (unaided by pain relief) vaginal births amongst some danish women (including my battleaxe midwife) and i think its bullshit, personally. I remember reading about how many US obstretricians would opt for caesareans because they thought it was safer and easier - controversial, i know!

anyway, hope you get some respite when your hubby gets back - you guys with many kids already and working/absent husbands are total soldiers! respect.

JODIEhavingababy · 14/04/2008 10:47

Cass, I understand how you feel, but, IMO, as long as you bring your baby into the world in the safest possible way then you are not being selfish (on a brighter note, at least you can plan, you know when and where your baby is coming! )
Thanks for the advice, I'll pop out and get some cream later. And when your DH gets back, put your feet up!

JODIEhavingababy · 14/04/2008 11:02

Does anyone know how MONKEY24 is?
