Thread title reflects the fact that every day that passes it dawns on me a bit more

SK - tbh I think I am only 75% sure of name although dh loves it. My older three ds are from first marriage so their names were chosen differntly. DD has a name that can double as a surname - Taylor - as does ds - Mackenzie - and Kennedy is a middle name of my late FIL! It's popular for girls in the states and would certainly make her different but not 100% yet.

Sun is shining but ds still very poorly so another day at home for me

Have a good day all!!

bebejones · 12/04/2008 12:03

WOW! Everyone has been so busy! Just had a good catch up with all the goings on over the last couple of weeks!

I have a new manager who has changed my contract back so I have to work 2 saturdays a month! (DH not impressed!) And this week has been week from hell at work, I work in a building society agency and it was the start of the new tax year....I swear if I see another ISA application form I will scream! Plus the surveyors PA was off on holiday this week (we share our office) and I had to cover her work as well, and typically they had the busiest week in months! Half their systems are upstairs, and the building we have is over 300years old....the stairs are a DEATH TRAP! So I have been running....yes, running.....up and down stairs all week! So much for the doc telling me no excessive movement. Subsequently pelvis is absolute agony and by the time I get home at night I pretty much pass out! LO is still really low down and the pressure on my pelvis is so painful it leaves me in tears and DH feeling utterly helpless! This cannot be normal, surely?!

Sorry for the rant! Is nice to be back and see what's been going on. Re: SEX, not had any since got pregnant. DH far to worried about squishing me, and right now can barely move my legs into a convenient position!! Still be occasionally sick in mornings....is anyone else still 'suffering'? I'm 24 weeks now, you would think I could keep my breakfast down!!!!

Wanted to ask does anyone know how I should be sleeping...I mean what position? Been given so much conflicting advice! Is lying on your back bad? I had heard that you should only lie on your left hand side, but that's impossible for a whole night! Any ideas anyone? Tried pillows etc to support me and I just end up getting in a strop and kicking them out of bed! So have been wedging myself in with the duvet!!

pigleychez · 12/04/2008 12:16

Well, Ive just been into Primark and bought a btton front nighty(£4) and pjama set(£6). Not the most attractive but hey!
Thanks for the advice girls.

Months ago DH (the computer wizz that he is) found a weblink to a free breast pump so he applied but never heard anything so we forgot all about it. Well parcel came yesterday with the free MAM mannual breast pump, bottle, breast pads and nipple shield. Bragin hey!
Dont know if it will be any good but for free its worth a shot. If DH can find the link again ill post it on here for you all.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far

Kaz1967 · 12/04/2008 12:44

bebejones you are doing far far too much that is why your baby is low and your pelvis so sore. There is one answer slow down at work hun. Yep I know it's a busy time of year but surely you and this baby are more important? You boss will just have to accept that because if he/she does not you are going to be off work a whole lot sooner than they anticipated. Do you have a personnel department and occupational health? They are responsible for your well-being and safety if not then just go to the main boss and explain the situation. If they continue to be demanding go to your GP and have a chat.

Re sleeping as baby gets bigger spending long times on your back puts pressure on your spine, bowel and most importantly the main vein which brings blood back to the heart from your legs so it is no a good idea, it can cause several problems including with your blood pressure and puts extra pressure on your heart.

Sleeping on your left side can help the kidneys function and is especially good for part of the night if you ave swelling in your legs but sleeping on your right side is ok. At the when my fibroid was really painful it was the only place I could get some relief. I sleep with an old duvet between my knees and a towel roll supporting my tummy (wot physio suggested for my tummy muscle prob) I also sometimes roll the duvet length ways so I can lie half on my back half on my side so I know the pressure of my uterus is not on my spine and vena cava (the important vein) does not have the pressure on it. Yep I know all the pillows and things are a right pain makes going to bed and turning over a real hassle

She also suggested that I put a duvet under the sheet to make things softer for hip and shoulder which helps too. Bloody good job I have several spare duvets really

ichef · 12/04/2008 12:56

bebejones i'm having same problems at work, i work at a v busy restaurant and since i just got transfered my new boss isn't making things easy for me, dh is furious and wants me to quit but I can't as I really like my job so I'm giving it a couple of weeks, I talked to new boss yesterday and he agreed to get a temp to help me out, if nothing happens I'll have to put baby first, fingers crossed I don't have to do it.

We decided to find out if we're having a boy or a girl, I'm 99% sure I'm having a boy and so is my dd but I really want to make sure so I can start buying stuff, dh's completely against it but I managed to convince him yay will let you know as soon as I find out!

Have a good weekend!

I'm supposed to be working until 11th May, which isn't very far away. I only work 8 - 10 hrs a weeks behind a hotel bar.

Tonight it is a wedding, and I'm not looking forward to it because I've been a bit poorly this week, and the other bar person got the sack a week ago.

If they expect me to do all the bar all night on my own I shall be stopping work much sooner!

Really empathise with others having a hard time at work - it's enough of a pain having this little job!

bebejones · 12/04/2008 15:26

Kaz that was really helpful thank you! The chairman of the company that I work for is my FIL and DH is a MD of another part of the group (is very complicated to explain), so I would think that they both would want me to be safe etc. I feel very much responsible at work to keep what is essentially my family company operating smoothly, but at this rate something has got to give. I cant afford to leave, and having been on ssp for so long (due to the dreaded MS) I feel really guilty about leaving them in the lurch! (I know it sounds silly) In my office we now have 3 full time members of staff to do the job I do, so will talk to my line manager about possibly being transferred to another part of the company, so I dont have to go up and down stairs all day long, my poor ankles are starting to show signs of distress!!!!!!! Only 8 weeks and 5 days til maternity leave!!

Kaz1967 · 12/04/2008 17:59

bebejones I understand that being a family company it is harder you have such a big emotional and physical stake in it but you do need to put yourself first. Changing locations sounds like a great idea 2 months is a long time when you are in pain. Make it easier on yourself.

Ok hands up my interest is I used to work in neonatal intensive care and other than smoking and BP problems are the most common known causes of admission most are unknown cause and Mums really beat themselves up about what they did or did not do although it probably would have happened whatever and it's a time you need all the strength you can muster. I can just picture you as one of my Mums sitting there tired hormonal in pain blaming yourself when it was probably nothing you did or didn't do that caused it to happen.

Not saying your baby could end up in NICU but if you run yourself ragged you risk spending the latter part of your pregnancy confined to bed in Hospital saying if only.... and it is just no worth it (take that from a woman who finds it imposable to pace her self and spent a night in hossy although for something different I have learnt a very big lesson) I'm sure your DH and FiL would agree.

Tae of yourself Hun

pigleychez · 12/04/2008 21:27

wow its very quiet on here tonight.

Has everyone found the energy to actually go out!??!

Ive been sitting watching tv and continuing my knitting. Nearly finished one square... only another 10 or so to go. Think ill get it finished by July?

Kaz1967 · 12/04/2008 21:54

I'm packing Piggy or supposed to be

disneystar · 12/04/2008 21:55

hi all hoping you are all well and relaxing tonight
as most of you know this is my 7th baby and its a little boy
well i only had 1 girl and she was 1st shes 22 now and announced to me today shes pregnant to and due in december
so i had my suprise baby and she is over them moon with hers to
its feels kinda weird to be be expecting the same time as my daughter
our babies will be 5 mths apart, her new brother will be 5 mths older than her own child how weird is that?
has anyone else had this?
im very happy for her though and we are very close so for bonding its great.

pigleychez · 12/04/2008 22:10

wow disney star! How bizarre!

I work in a day Nursery and we have a amily like that. The two boy are a few months apart but uncles and nephews if thats right ( gets abit confusing sometimes!)

Well Congrats to your Daughter! Have to tell her to join the Due in Decemeber thread.

My sister is due the end of May so i know how it is to be pregnant with someone close (although not my daughter!). Been nice to share pregnancy moans and groans and compare notes.

These little cousins will be 7 weeks apart.

Minkus · 13/04/2008 08:14

Oh disney that's fantastic! Congratulations to your daughter. She's so lucky to be able to have her v experienced mum around with current baby know how!

pigley I was pregnant at the same time as my sister and one of my dearest friends last time round, both on their second/my first- it was fantastic and all three boys were born within 3 weeks of each other so ds had ready made playmates right from the start. He and his cousin are especially close, and ds says "he's my cousin mummy and he's my best friend" (although variously dh and I are his best friends too as well as the cat so he's obv not cotonned on to the idea of exclusivity yet )

Well it's back to work for me tomorrow so will be spending some time getting the weeks clothes sorted and getting my head back into business mode. Strategic decision making anyone? Er I don't think so. My brain might be able to tell my boss that I would like a cadbury's creme egg please but nothing more useful I don't think. Might not be able to mumsnet as often either boo hoo

Congrats to your daughter disneystar!
Minkus - work is pants; how many days til maternity leave??

minipinkscottish · 13/04/2008 10:30

Congratulations disney!!

My very good friend and child minder has 13 children and her youngest is nearly 11. She has 10 grandchildren and the oldest is 8 so she has a similar experience. xx

Going back to work as well after 2 weeks hols but only 11 days to work - spread over the next 4 weeks! So I actually go on mat leave on 7th May I can't wait! Feel so tired and emotional all the time and finding it hard to cope with LO who has been ill for past 4 days - poor little mite, I am very worried about him and neither of us are getting much rest!!

Have a good Sunday everyone xx

TJuice · 13/04/2008 12:18

congrats to your daughter, disney!
it must be both weird and wonderful to be pregnant at the same time . . .

re. back sleeping - i have also heard conflicting advice. the books say that same thing as you, kaz about the vena cava (always fancy a chilled glass of sparkling wine when i say or write that!) but my doctor, midwife and chiropractor say that if its still comfy to lie on my back - do it - but put a pillow under your knees.
they all agree that if you have the issue with the vena cava - it would force you to turn over naturally in your sleep. you wouldn't have it and not know it and endanger yourself or your baby, if you see what i mean. i bought a massive spelt-filled breastfeeding cushion that is supposed to be great for lying with but it just gets on my nerves. so i mainly coch up on my side or back with nothing else. the bump isn't too heavy yet. the only thing that makes sense to me is maybe a wedge under the bump because trying to stick a pillow under it just doesn't work right now.

well, i am still on the food fixation. yesterday i baked a pumpkin bundt cake with lemon icing (nice but a little dry - needs a cream cheese frosting) and today i just made delicious bruschetta with rye bread toast, olive oil, garlic, olive tapenade, past. goats cheese, cherry tomatoes with spring onion and basil marinated in balsamic vinegar and finally topped with half a sliced avocado with salt and pepper. damned delicious . . .

its sunny here so i really should step out for a bit. there's a gallery opposite the flat that we never go to and also some good flea markets around town. i am so naturally lazy that i get almost agrophobic sometimes! i have to force myself out to get fresh air.

bebe - hope you got to chill this weekend - doesn't sound good the amount of work you are doing. i would have thought a family organisation would be more sympathetic - but maybe you are just trying to soldier it too much. you need to wind down and start to build up energy reserves a bit.

ichef · 13/04/2008 12:58

Hi all!

disney congrats to your daughter, she'll be so lucky to have her baby a few monthes after you!

Anyone here lives in London?

Minkus · 13/04/2008 13:13

ah tjuice there you are - I can relax now. arlargghharl (that's the Homer Simpson doughnut noise that I make whilst drooling every time you start with your naughty food descriptions). Where you live sounds wonderful too, is it Copenhagen? Can't remember. I LOVE flea markets and bric a brac shops, old country auctions and the like. You're lucky to have those great sorts of Sunday things to do so close by.

Isaidno- I think I'm going to start mat leave at 36 weeks, and as I'll be 28 weeks tomorrow thats only 8 weeks time. I'll see how I go though I've got lots of leave left so could take a bit in advance if I need to. I do 4 days a week (34 hours though so nearly full time!) so 32 days left until mat leave in total. Wow when I say it like that it doesn't sound like long at all! Thank goodness!

Anyone else watching the London Marathon? It's really emotional hearing all the stories of why people are running (or is it just pg hormones?). Floella Benjamin was on there too doing her 10th year, she looks amazing! She doesn't seem to have aged at all since I remember her presenting Playschool when I was little! Random comment, soz.

For any of you ladies that have had c sections in the past, have you got any recommendations for useful/practical gifts or help you were given in the early days? My dear dear friend had a little boy on Thursday by emergency c section (after a v long labour poor darling, she sounds like she had a really rough time and is physically and mentally shattered) and I want to do something useful for her. Got the baby a present but what would she/her hubby appreciate? Have already got huge up-to-the-armpit knickers for her so her scar doesn't get rubbed, and another thread recommended making some meals for them to bung in the freezer so will do that too- is there anything else that she would welcome? Need your collective wisdom!

cass66 · 13/04/2008 17:13

hello guys. on day 4 of 5 of my husband being away. still smiling!! and happy kids.

Minkus, re your friend and her section - I second any meals or food, plus, can you offer to go round and do 'stuff' for a few hours eg washing/ironing housework etc. or take them out somewhere for a drive. the cabin fever is the worst, esp not being able to drive. and ask her re shopping - if there is anything she needs etc. also does she have any other kids, as you could offer to take them out for a treat too.

went to a NCT sale yesterday. never seen so many bumps in one place!! made me realise I'm not really prepared for this baby, it's not real that we will have a real live baby again in 3 months. I keep thinking we'll be ok as this is number 3, and we have everything (?), but I think I'm kidding myself.

And also got re-addicted to real nappies. must see how many I have already before I go bidding for some on usednappies.com! actually, York council are good and will reimburse you £30 when you spend £50 on real nappies. so in effect you get £50 worth of nappies for £20!

mummypig · 13/04/2008 17:39

hi everyone, have been away on holiday for a week which was lovely although of course with two kids it's never as much as a rest as dp and I would like.

Congrats to disney's daughter. A friend near me is pg with her third, and her step-daughter who is 19 is also due a very similar time and has moved back in with my friend as the other side of the family have been very unsupportive about her keeping the baby . My sister and my auntie also both had their first babies at the same time - my sister was 17 and my auntie was 40 something.

re. sleeping, in my last two pregnancies I had piles of pillows around me and tried to sleep on my left side as much as possible but still ended up on my right or back quite a lot. This time I have the 'dreamgenii' pillow which is really comfy and makes it easy to turn round although I'm not sure how dp feels about it taking up so much space in our bed. I try to keep something in between my legs as much as possible as I think it helps with the spd.

Cass I feel much the same about number 3. I think it won't feel real until the little one is actually here! And I must dig out the nappies I have, except I suspect they are in the attic and dp has forbidden me to climb up the ladder but hasn't got round to doing it himself.

isaidno · 13/04/2008 18:22

cass - I am addicted to real nappies too; after 2 DS in disposables. I'm always hovering around the nappies for sale threads! I must stop now, and wait until I have tried out what I have!

sweetkitty · 13/04/2008 18:52

Evening all hope you are all having a good Sunday, it's been lovely and sunny here not a drop on rain so we have been out and about and in the garden as well. Still can't quite get my plants sorted as we are still having groundfrost in the morning.

disneystar - congratulations for your DD, so is that you going to be a (dare I say it) Gran and Mum again this year no it will be fab, your new DS will be very close to their nephew or neice.

Tjuice - will you stop it with the food porn already, I have got this mega craving for crackers with goats cheese and olives, Tesco can't deliver fast enough tomorrow.

Minkus - yes we watched the London marathon with DP saying "can I do it next year?" I said fine. He wanted to do Berlin about 2 weeks after my due date I was like no way! He's well into his training for the one next month. I think they are all insane, running 26 miles, I couldn't even walk a mile right now.

cass/mummypig - I bought a load of real nappies with DD1 but we were moving house twice and didn't have a tumble drier so I went back to disposables then having 2 in nappies seemed like a hassle so I sold them all, I totally regret it. I had lovely pink and lilac tots bots, bamboozles, pink and lilac fuzzi bunz, some Motherease and some Bumbles, I miss them all. Wish I had kept them would have saved me a fortune plus them are just so nice.

Minkus · 13/04/2008 18:57

Haha sk my dh has applied on line this morning too! I used to walk very fast run before getting pg this time round but not to anywhere near marathon level (or even half marathon)

of your sunshine too- we've had intermittent rain sun and hailstones here so 's big boy bike just off for a blast on ds's big boy bike before bed time as he's got quite a bit of pent up energy waiting to be released!

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 13/04/2008 19:02

Don't be minkus it will never last.

DD2 came in from the garden covered in mud, it's like a bog out there.
