The Beckham woman is just abnormal who wants to look as if they are anorexic I like my curves (and so did someone else when he was around )

Don't worry Jodie you know what us hormonal and pregnant women are like over emotional and take everything to heart these days some people just have to say hello the wrong way and I am in tears esp at the moment. I am going before the discomfort gets worse.

RUMPEL · 11/04/2008 11:30

Hi All,

KAZ - what a total nightmare - glad you are feeling better. Fingers x house sells soon and you can move to a better place with your BF for support.

RE SEX - we didn't have sex at all after conceiving with DD and not until 9 months after she was born . We forced ourselves to practice then 'cos we wanted to TTC again and we haven't done it again since . Some of you will be horrified I know but it is just something that has fallen by the wayside for us for a few years. We had amazing mega sex for the first 3 years we were together - I lost loads of weight, then wnet through ups and downs for 3.5 years (on off relationship) then after we got married Dh was in a horrible accident and spent a couple of years recovering (hence why we waited so long to TTC). TBH he doesn't have the energy he used to have and is a bit bleurgh of me when I am pg. Once I get this LO out I will start excercising again and feel better about myself.

RE BODY CHANGING - my ladybits were very sore and swollen for a good week after labour but I started doing my PFE the day after she was born and had really tight abdominal muscles so downstairs went tight again quickly. My muscles are a bit pants now though so not sure about recovery this time. I notice that my tum is less flat than before DD and my boobs shrunk after BF and went a bit floppy. But this is supposed to change over time. My Mum's boobs got much bigger after she had us 2. I think you lose alot of elasticity in your skin when pg - things go saggy and wobbly eg arms etc, hopefully this will come back after birth though .

I am hoping not to put on too much weight this time as it is such a struggle to lose it aftrewards - 10lbs here. I have been eating loads of rubbish the last 4 weeks though - cakes, scones custard creams and bourbons .

JODIE - I think you don't need to worry until about 36 weeks. Baby can turn in labour too if back to back, if breech they will probably advise CS. With second or more babies often they won't engage until in labour - more room to move form being pg before.

Must go - loads to do and DD is sleeping.

Take care all
xxx

For me optimum positioning means just before she is born, I think she is still lying across me right now.

I agree, we are bombarded with selebs (was it Myleene Klass last week) going on about how fab they are after the birth, well I'm sure everyone of us would look fab if we had a nanny to do the night feeds and a personal trainer. I would settle for a cleaner and someone to to the ironing plus someone to take the DDs off somewhere once a week to give me a rest.

If you go the other way you can't win either I remember MIL saying "oh what does the doctor say?" and I said "what about?" "your weight loss!" I was just under 9 stone and I'm a shortarse and no matter how much weight I lose I always have a big bum and hips so am hardly a 6 stone waif. You cannot win can you?

isaidno · 11/04/2008 12:16

My bay was tranverse at my mw appt on Tuesday. not worrying about it - she obv has room to move about alot at the mo! (In my big baggy womb!!)

I've put on just over a stone, and not worrying about it. I can appreciate kaz, that you do not want to gain much, if you are overweight anyway. I think you have to expect some gain though.

Read a trashy mag this week which tells me Jennifer Lopez has lost loads of weight after having twins. She gets up at 4 am to fit in a 3 hour workout, and she won't eat carbs.

I think I'd rather stay a bit fat for a while.

MissPaulaYates · 11/04/2008 12:21

lol at the weight gain stories

my friend who is 3 weeks ahead of me went to the doctor who asked her how much weight she had gained so far she said ' one stone six' he said' gosh you must have been very overweight to start with'

he is renowned for tactless comments but luckily she just laughed

kaz that sounds low to me! last I am quite pleased with a 1 stone 1 pound gain to date so do not fret!

Minkus · 11/04/2008 13:28

Re weight gain- buuuuurp I have just eaten half the banoffee pie I made last night after scoffing a big bowl of couscous and tuna steak. And a previous slice of banoffee for elevenses

So I think the weight will creep on- I am back to my pre-preg weight now after losing quite a bit due to hyperemesis. So as I lost 1.5 stone in theory I've put 1.5 stone on. But pre-preg weight was 13 stone 3 anyway so I'm not exactly a waif! BUT dh said last night that I am slimmer everywhere now thn before (apart from bump obv) which surprised me, but I suppose if I have the additional bump weight and baby inside making up part of the total that makes sense. DOn't worry ladies though I am sure to be chocking on the pounds if I continue with the banoffee binges!

I've had some eating issues in the past and pregnancy/breastfeeding is the only time I can remember not feeling guilty about what I'm eating, as long as it's not junk all the time, and it's a lovely feeling. To be able to eat something really indulgent every so often and it not leave a horrible shameful aftertaste that spoils everything is so liberating!

Today is my last day of "freedom" before I return to work on Monday so am off to town in a while to buy a few bits for my labour bag. DH bought me this for my bday in apple green and it's beautiful, it arrived yesterday (even though my birthday was in February! ) and I know we've got ages yet but want to start getting some basics in. So big cheap soft pants, maternity pads and a dark towel are first on the agenda! Anyone else started thinking about theirs?

OP posts:
JODIEhavingababy · 11/04/2008 14:12

Oh Minkus that bag is lovely.

I must admit I have been thinking about my hospital bag over the last few days, I looked in matalan yesterday for some cheap towles and a couple of flannels, but didn't buy them. I need a new over night bag first. I did buy some nursing style PJ's from Mothercare though, I have 2 lots now!

When I was looking at the flannels I had a flashback - no one warned me, so I'll warn you others! I had 2 flannels with me (luckily) as DH had one to keep cooling me down, and the other one I put between my forehead and the side of the birthing pool. I was bearing down so hard on the bloody thing though I had a massive bruise there the next day!

Kaz1967 · 11/04/2008 14:19

Maybe I am being hard on myself re the weight gain the midwife is fine but the consultant made it really clear my weight was a problem to them, an my GP has taken it on board. I know being over weight is not healthy and carried more risks in pregnancy and I had holed that still being in pre pregnancy clothes (although the skirts were very loose and are now just wearable) and comments from friends husband that maybe I had not put much if any on and putting over a stone felt like a big disappointment

gillythekid · 11/04/2008 15:00

You've all put on so little weight compared to me!! I have NO idea how much I weighed on my wedding day in October, I'm guessing 10 stone 10, or around 70 kilos? 13 week scan I was 76 kilos, 26 week check up, 82 kilos..that's 13 stone!! I'm 5'9" but still, it's only the start of the last trimester and my boobs haven't grown yet, although I'm a 32 G to start with so I'm expecting them to weigh a stone each by the time the milk comes in!! Aqua fit twice a week, yoga, cycling, just walked 3 miles, not as if I'm sitting at home pie eating. Oh dear, can I breast feed it all off in time to look like a Brazilian supermodel by the time we go on holiday in September? Think I may be more the size of a Brazilian supermarket.

Squarah · 11/04/2008 15:06

I've gained about 1 stone 2-3lbs so far and shows no signs of stopping - the daily chocolate might have something to do with it but am justifying it by the reduction in booze har har...!

sweetkitty · 11/04/2008 15:06

kaz - theres plenty of women on here and I know a few in RL as well that were bigger ladies and were absolutely fine having a baby. There was a support thread on it a while ago. At no other time does your weight and the way you look come under such scrutiny. You wouldn't go up to a man and say "look at the size of your beer gut, when are you due?" yet being pregnant you seem to illicit comments from everyone including strangers. All I seem to get is "oh your so neat!" I don't know what un-neat is though.

I was actually thinking about my labour bag. Even though I hope to have another homebirth I will pack a bag at about 36 weeks-ish and have it on standby just in case.

Minkus - that bag is lovely but how do you fit everything in? I don't do travel light and my bag is a suitcase lol. I still have the dark blues towels from DD2 will need to get some PJs, pants, pads, and of course things for the baby. DD1 I didn't even open my very carefully packed bag until I had her. I had bought everything a nightie for labouring in, CDs, snacks, juice the lot never used any of it. Need to pack it just in case though.

sweetkitty · 11/04/2008 15:08

gilly - at the amount of exercise you still do, I actually have the DDs getting things for me and picking things up and limit the number of times I go upstairs

TJuice · 11/04/2008 15:22

oh please - no more weight discussion. its just so horrid. i have put on 10 kilos although and some is definitely podge on hips and backfat but people still say i look small for the months I am. as a weight-struggler - its very difficult but sod it - i have done massive weight losses before and can do it again. but right now, i can't bear to think about it. (which is why i had a mahoosive sandwich with bacon, mozzarella, avocado and pesto for lunch)

nice bag, minkus! i just bought two "nappy" bags online but neither are official nappy bags - just rather large and lush bags which could fit over the handles of the pram (so its really just about me styling again). one is a vintage tan leather bag on ebay and one is new from topshop (lovely big grey one)

had my third session of chiropractice(?) today and remain unsure of the benefits if there is nothing really 'wrong'. it hurts like buggery! i break into a sweat when she is cracking my neck and "rubbing" my back. but she reckons its all preventative (of course). we have a free massage at work every other wednesday and that hurt like hell too. they keep saying that i am "very tense and tight" but i feel fine before i start . . . .

Also had a chat with a guy at work who is an anaesthesiologist (how he ended up in advertising, i don't know. he's our medical expert). Apparently - Danes are very conservative about epidurals and don't really like giving them out. Which made me poo myself a bit! The risks don't seem to outweigh the benefits, from what he says (so you don't feel so much when you push therefor you might tear more, the chance of any spinal injury is sooooooooo small and its doesn't affect the baby). But he was quite pragmatic, basically advising to not go in there wanting/expecting one but see how rate of progression goes on the day but not wait until its too late.

So hospital bag essentials (I know there must be tons of lists out there)please add:

cheap towels
cheap flannels
maternity pads
cheap knickers
nightie or bf pajamas (can you use a strappy jersey nighties and just pull down one side?)

Kaz1967 · 11/04/2008 15:52

TJuice Last time I will mention it honest but

sweetkitty I told the other upset Mum in hossy on Wed she had a beautiful neat bump Purely and simply I am jealous would love a figure and bump like that

Going to have another moan though have terrible indigestion today started with ginger burps this morning (no idea why last time I had my ginger and lime tea was Wednesday now it's just unpleasant and feels as much like heart burn how much gaviscon can I drink feel like drinking the whole bottle right now.

Must get dressed properly someone coming round to look at the house at 5 and I leave the estate agent too it last thing they want is me wandering round in my birthday suit that would really but the poor bloke off LOL

Just had a phone call from my GP I do have a UTI on top of everything early stages as no white cells (or raised white count in blood) which is why it has taken so long to grow anything. See a little trip up to the surgery coming on ho hum

Mummywannabe · 11/04/2008 17:07

Hi all haven't posted for ages, tried my best to catch up.

Been away for weekend but to be honest was so tiring feel worse. Had ear ache and sore throat all week.

6 weeks to go at work though so things are looking up!

Have put on abuot 1 1/2 stone so far!

When do you have to pack your hospital bag by?

cass66 · 11/04/2008 18:30

hello all. kids playing hide and seek, but have gone very quiet, might have to check up on them soon...

re weight - I've put on loads, it gets me down at times. but it's inevitable as I'm eating more, indulging my sweet tooth and greed. also, I need to do sweaty cardio exercise to maintain/lose weight, like running or keep fit, neither of which I've been able to do since falling preg. so no wonder I'm heavy. but I try to reassure myself I've lost it before, and so can do again!

re sex - not overly keen in preg, prob related to fatigue and weight gain. but actually I think before this preg, our sexlife had never been better. age and experience and needing to make an effort sometimes (ie sexy undies, quickies in afternoons when kids playing downstairs etc) seems to work for us.

..but then again I've had 2 (will be 3) sections, so no preg related probs 'down there'!

can't think about hosp bag etc. going to an NCT sale tomorrow (with kids, no choice), which might make me more organised. mainly want nappies, dont need clothes.

my advice in labour - EAT in early labour, cos you wont feel like it as it progresses, or wont be allowed.

I always wanted to see the placentas, weird interesting things, but as I had sections, they just got taken away. anyone else see theirs??? some people eat them or bury them, I'd just like to see what was sustaining junior for 9 months!!

minipinkscottish · 11/04/2008 18:38

OMG - hailstones and thunder and lightening

Can't believe it - been off work 2 weeks and going back on Monday - ds age 2 was up being sick at 4am yesterday and when I took him to docs discovered ear and chest infection....then he was up from 1am this morning and still being sick and not keeping down meds...also dd got up with earache. So took both to docs. DD has ear infection and ds has "very nasty" ear infection - so changed meds. Spent the day being nurse maid. Poor little mite he really doesn't know what wrong..he's so listless and just wants to be held all the time However, the sickness is slowing down and he has held down some meds.

Sorry for moan...but it's only a few weeks since we all had that sickness bug

Oh I think we've picked name....don't tell anyone.... she is going to be....
Kennedy Niamh...I think!!!
xx

pigleychez · 11/04/2008 21:09

Hi ladies

RE weight- Ive put on about 8/9 lbs so far. Everyone comments on how tiny i am which is funny really as untill about 20 weeks all i heard was how big i was!
Think it because i pyshically cant eat as much in one sitting as normal so usually have smaller meals. But doesnt stop me picking throughout the day!

Minkus- Love the bag! think i might treat myself to a new bag too.

RE Hospital bag- I have been buying a few bits along the way as i see them also been copying some of the advice given on what to buy from the pregnancy treads.
Bought some cheap black towels and flannels and some Maternity pads.
Anyone found any nice nightdresses or pjs for breat feeding. Dont really want to spend a fortune either.

minipinkscottish- Sorry to hear you children are ill. Always happens at once doesnt it.

Love the name too

Mummywannabe- 25 days of work left for me! Not that im counting!

Have booked a 4d scan for next saturday which we both really excited about! Really looking forward to seeing baby. It wriggles and moves about so much that it will be fab to see it in realtime iykwim.
I dont think baby realises its growing bigger and keeps trying to saumersault like it did at 12 weeks!

Mum has been visiting for a few days, mother/daughter bonding/shopping. Been nice and mum has been buying lots of baby stuff for me. Bought baby some new outfits and a playnest thing from ELC which is really sweet.

As mum was here i decided to start on the knitting set thats she bought me at christmas. Great to learn whilst she was here to help me. So far done about 30 rows of a square. Decided to start making little squares to sew together to make a blanket. Tiny blanket! or it will be for MY grandchild!

Kaz1967 · 11/04/2008 21:42

Mummywannabe my bag will be packed before I am 35 weeks seen so many babies arrive before they were expected.

cass66 seen lots of placentas the joys of being on the professional side of a birth the thought of eating it though just makes me feel sick mins so much does these days.

It has been a beautiful day here blue sky little wind an for April pleasantly warm. Not sure why I am feeling so weepy I just feel like I am going to burst into tears all the time.

isaidno · 11/04/2008 21:44

pigley - you don't need to buy special nighties - they just need to have buttons at fron so if you bf you can get your boobs out easier. I've always bought the £3 ones they do in Primark. (Just buy a size bigger than normal.)

I think my baby has grown huge in the past week because I can now tell exactly where she is, and she is really kicking and punching me!

minipinkscottish · 11/04/2008 22:16

pigley - I'm going for 4D scan next Saturday too!! I am looking forward to it as well xx

Kaz1967 · 12/04/2008 01:04

Anyone else find they are getting really dry skin? My tummy and boobs are getting so dry and itchy in recent weeks can't keep up with moisturising them

sweetkitty · 12/04/2008 08:17

Morning all late night last night, got in at 1am but had a nice evening could not even eat half my main course though. Up at 7am this morning though, DP has gone off for a 15 mile run he's got the marathon (Edinburgh not London) in 6 weeks or so.

Mummywannabee - hello good to see you

minipink - congrats on choosing your name how sure are you? We are about 98% sure not telling anyone though. Sorry to hear about all your ill LOs that can't be easy, hope they are feeling better soon.

pigley - I don't think you really need special BFing clothes TBH. I had nighties before and didn't use them. Anything with buttons down the front will do just as well. Another tip is to buy some cheap cotton vests to wear under your tops etc then you can pull it down whilst feeding if you don't want to expose any post baby tummy. I'm going for come comfy PJs myself although it will be July it's Scotland so not going to get that warm. Am definitely treating myself to a hotmilk bra (maybe 2) theres no way I'm spending a year in those awful M&S big white things!

Another great thing for BFing (if you don't already have one) is a V-shaped pillow. I got mine from Blooming Marvellous ages ago but I think you can get them cheaper from Argos etc. Brilliant for propping you up in bed, sleeping with, BFing (especially in those early days when you are mastering it) and for propping baby up.

Minkus · 12/04/2008 09:34

gilly pmsl at the brazilian supermodel/supermarket!

And sk the bag is bigger than it looks- hoping I will just need that and one of my many many handbags (all of which are on the rather monstrous side). Cos last time round was quite quick and I was already nearly at the pushing stage when we got to hosp I didn't ever need the stuff for whiling away the hours that I thought were essential (playing cards, ipod, magazines, facial spritz (!), puzzle books etc etc) so might put them in a separate bag and leave them in the car instead of carting them around on the ward.

Going to a friends this morning, they live on a farm and ds and her ds will have loads of fun wheeling about looking at the cows and chasing the ducks no doubt! DS loves Big Barn Farm on CBeebies at the moment and is really excited at the thought of seeing Gobo the Goat (even though my friend doesn't keep goats!) Lovely weather here too today.

Have a good day all xxx

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 12/04/2008 09:48

minkus - I was the exact same bought facial spritz too and never opened the bag until after she was born.

Miserable rainy day here today don't know what to do yet.
