Ellie - DH did mine he deserves a medal doesnt he?!

HB appt went well, sounds like it will be really positive. Only reasons i will have to go in are BP, menconium in waters or baby's heartbeat. Sounds fine! I have to ring her when contractions are 2 in 10 mins; can use bath, they bring 6 hours of G&A (?!?!?!?) and she said to get some lucozade sweets.

HV's coming at 11am.

velbels · 18/03/2008 09:47

BR i've had 2 stomach bugs in the last month and GP and NHS direct both say just keep drinking as much as you can and go to Dr if it goes on more than 24 hours. Hope you feel better soon.

bunnyrabbit · 18/03/2008 09:50

Thanks Velbels. That's what I thought.

DH didn't even realise what was going on! We have an en-suite and I was in quite a bit of discomfort, so was not exactly quiet. He woke up when I got back in to bed and asked me if I was alright! 'Yes dear, I've just given birth in the toilet though so if you wouldn't mind getting me a cold flannel that would be very helpful!!!

BR

Carey87 · 18/03/2008 09:53

BR - Ive had the same thing over the last week, cant remember the last time I passed something 'solid' down below (TMI I know!!!)

Do drink plenty of water and mention it to your midwife as she may sujjest that you go in for half a day on a drip just to top up your fluid levels (she did this to me and I promised I would be a good girl and drink lots! I HATE hospitals!!)

Carey87 · 18/03/2008 09:56

Scorpio - really glad your HB appt went well, I really hope it al goes well for you.

Gem - so so so sorry to hear your having a pants time of it atm. He will be a lot sooner than you probably think x

On the waxing thing - OUCH! at any time!!!

Carey87 · 18/03/2008 09:56

*He will be home a lot sooner than you probably think x

Peachy · 18/03/2008 09:56

Scorpio- I have a copy of Home Birth that my Doula lent to me (by Nicky Wesson)- I would suggest grabbing a copy as it's full of NICE guidelines and therefore I trust it! It suggests isotonic sports drinks as opposed to the glucose sweets (I have both though)- and gives loads of other ideas, too (for some reason the one about drinking half a glass of orange juice with 1/2 tspcayenne pepper in if you bleed a lot in labour appealed- no idea why but sounds so simple!). babybratt That OJ drink also suggested for raised BP by the way, along with increased protein (lots of Asutrialian research on that) and 2-10 garlic perles a day.

scorpio1 · 18/03/2008 09:57

thanks for tip Peachy Will get both now then; it can't hurt!

Peachy · 18/03/2008 09:58

Ellie- there's lots of threads from firsttimers on MN about hair removal in PG. My experience is you will not care when you are in labour. You wouldn't cre if the entire armed forces and UN peacekeeping forces came in for a gander.

scorpio1 · 18/03/2008 10:00

Peachy - MW aid yesterday they may have to have a paramedic instead of 2nd MW if there isnt much time - she said it could be a man do you care?? Err, no, get the baby out!!

scorpio1 · 18/03/2008 10:01

@ Jeremy Kyle!

bunnyrabbit · 18/03/2008 10:02

Sorry to be nosey, but what exactly happened at your HB appointment?

I'm having an HB and all I've been told is to get some plastic sheeting, old towels and plenty of light in case they need to stitch me. That I'll have two midwives, and that they will bring gas and air. Oh and they'll blue light me to St. John's if they have to do 'deep' stitching or if they are not happy with the baby's heart beat or my progress.

Intrigued to know what treatment everyone else gets.

BR

scorpio1 · 18/03/2008 10:04

same as you! She went through also about how if the baby doesnt breathe they have a lung inflator thing.

Carey87 · 18/03/2008 10:04

scorpio - I KNOW!!!

scorpio1 · 18/03/2008 10:11

They think its in my nan's stomach too now. Talk of chemo 'giving extra time'.

It's ok though, we are all sticking together down here.

Peachy · 18/03/2008 10:17

Oh scorpio, I'm sorry . Macmillan Cancer Support ahve a very good info line and support website.

I have a birthing kit upstairs (packed elegantly in a green bin gab) full of swabs etc, red books and all that sort of thing. I also have 4 small cannisters of entonox in the hall, but no mouthpiece so ica n't go ahead and enjoy LOL . I've beena sked to provide floor protection (have got a pack of bed mats, and will use the tent groundsheets), a directional light, and that's it. Doula has suggested lots of towels so we've been making sure we're up to date on washing those. Apparently you also need to have the heating at around 25degrees for when LO arrives so make sure you know how to do that if you're not sure. Other than that all I have is the usual labour things, and extra milk / bisvuits / cakes / crisps / drinks / bacon for the MW / Doula to partake of.

scorpio1 · 18/03/2008 10:20

My MW said a shower curtain was a good waterproof layer.

@ heating!! But all of our radiators come on at the same temp and the kids will boil....will have to ask DH about turning some off and leaving some on.

bunnyrabbit · 18/03/2008 10:26

Scorpio about your nan..

I bought some of the plastic decorating sheet roll stuff you can get from B&Q.

Don't have anything else as they will bring it with them, including scales.

Must get some drinks and biccies in... and line up the DVDs I want to watch when it all kicks off!

No one said anything about the heating! That's boiling! I suppose I can turn the radiator up in the room we're going to be in but I'll be hot enough already if memory serves and am pretty sure it wasn't that warm in the labour room in hispital last time.

BR

EllieG · 18/03/2008 10:29

Sorry about your Nan scorpio ((((hugs))))

HB sounds very involved. I would've quite liked one but they don't let you for your first one here, plus DP was all anxious at the idea.

BabyBratt · 18/03/2008 10:33

BR this could be your final bout of pregnancy hormones getting you into labour mode. My business partner had her baby 7 weeks ago and this happened to her about 3 days later she went into labour. So you may be on the home straight.

Sorry if that doesn't make you feel any better. At least we know there is something good coming out of all these aches and pains.

I've just washed all the curtains and Im about to pop out to buy drain unblocker. My DH thinks its ace that Im nesting because he has been helping and now he can sit back.

I've got my hair appointment at 2pm so we will see what happens.

SuzeM · 18/03/2008 10:35

Thanks ladies, you're right, it will all work out in the end and at the end of the day, there are more important things to worry about.

Molly, I am a technical writer; my original intention to was write for Vogue but now I work for a credit card company.

Scorpio, sorry about your gran. The treatment is horrible, my mum went through it.

scorpio1 · 18/03/2008 10:36

Ellie - DH wouldn't let me have a HB for Jamie - the only baby before that he had seen born was his first baby, epidural, ventouse and episiotomy, so he thought it was all like that iyswim? He very happy this time though after Jamie's birth. Hospital is 40 miles away anyway.

Have one next time!!

bunnyrabbit · 18/03/2008 10:36

Well I could do with waiting till next Tuesday but if buglet makes an appearance on Friday, that would be fine!! I'm sure I'll feel better when I've had some sleep. Am considering getting on the train home and then back just to get a kip!!

If anyone is nesting and has run out of things to nest, please feel free to come round and sort my house out!!

BR

ThePFJ · 18/03/2008 11:12

Ok more laundry done. Go me!
Been getting out of breath alot though. Lots of 5 minute sit downs during...
So now I'd thought I'd sit here, post and look longingly at my moses basket with the little blue comforter blanket/donkey in it... so adorable...
-broods-

-passes BR a glass of ice water-

bunnyrabbit · 18/03/2008 11:18

mm lovely.. thanks PFJ.

Feeling a bit better now but actually feels like a hangover!! Sore tummy and bottom, achy head, sore throat, queasy....

How unfair is that!!

to the moses basket. DH's cousin is lending us there's again and brought it over Sunday. It's a lovely Mammas and Pappas one but unfortuantely they are smokers so as well as washiong every detatchable piece of cloth I've sprayed the basket with Fabeze.

Said to DH that I'd rather buy a new one than use it if I can smell the faintest with of cigerettes. Am I being too fussy??
