Ellie, DD is a dreamer too, and finds it easy to get distracted so I always expct the worst when I go in but apparently she is much better about her concentration lately, though it's probably a huge part of her dreadful handwriting.

northeastmummy · 06/03/2008 16:55

Wow VS - you have every right to be proud! What a clever DD

Carey - with my first DD, nobody ever said whether she was engaged or otherwise, it just all happened eventually so try not to worry too much. I think it's fairly unpredictable in general.

Carey87 · 06/03/2008 17:00

thats what im hoping! when it all wants to happen it will. and seeing the hospital and where everything is last night actually made me feel better.

I have to say that mumsnet is such a brilliant place!

You get so many nice people, like yourself, and it really does make you feel better when you can talk about fears and not feel as if your wasting anyones time

PortAndLemon · 06/03/2008 17:51

Well, I'm in trouble with DS...

Lots of people keep asking DS what he thinks we should call the new baby. To date he has not been terribly inspired (sample names: Mummy, Cow, Chair, Ladder, Nelson...) but for the last week or so he's been telling people we are calling the baby Lesley (one of the staff at nursery is named Lesley, so I assume that's his inspiration). So this morning I broke the news to him that we were not calling her Lesley and he was soooooooooooo upset and cross with me!

In a hormonal mummy-moment the thought of naming her Lesley or putting it in as a middle name ran through my head, but then I pulled myself together, remembered that he is 3, will get over it, that he'd probably have had the same reaction if I'd vetoed any of the other names at the time he was keen on them, and that I wouldn't have considered calling DD Chair or Nelson just to keep him happy.

Mollyfloss · 06/03/2008 17:53

Having chilli heatwave doritos here with hummus - is quite nice...

Carey: I definitely wouldn't worry about being engaged. A week ago I was rel to brim 4/5 which means only slighty engaged. Then today the scan doctor wrote 'Head deeply engaged in pelvis. Spine anterior position. Advise to attend early in labour'. So it sounds to me like I'm all ready to go but in fact he said yes it's possible to go early but I could go late too so who knows... he just said because of the position and as he has seen in other pregnancies it could be a fast labour but again who knows... I think he is just reminding me not to go too far from the hospital in case... babies come when they want to come. I'll probably be here at 42 weeks drink bloody castor oil and then have a 50 hour labour

Ellie G: I have put on a bit of weight too recently and thought it should slow down... but a growth spurt, I like that reasoning

Mollyfloss · 06/03/2008 18:02

PAL: That is cute. Kids are funny when they get an idea into their head. What are you calling your LO by the way? Do you know yet?

PortAndLemon · 06/03/2008 18:12

Not entirely decided yet, but not Lesley (or Mummy or Cow or Chair or Ladder or Nelson)

Mollyfloss · 06/03/2008 18:13

oh why not? Cow or chair could be lovely!

northeastmummy · 06/03/2008 18:42

I think chair is great . Might use it myself.

Carey - you're right. Mumsnet is brilliant. You can ask anything and people will always be so supportive - which I find is just what I need.

Talking of being supportive, I was at a b/f clinic today which was brilliant and I'm all fired up and ready to go. In fact I'm a bit disappointed there's still so long to wait because my enthusiasm might have worn off by then! I really struggled with feeding DD so I'm determined to make it better this time.

Molly - I wonder if it's a combination of the head being so engaged and the anterior position that makes your doctor think you'll have a quick labour? Definitely need to make sure you have a tens - there might not be time for anything else!!

moominsmummy · 06/03/2008 19:12

P&L - love your DS's suggestions

My DS says he wants to call the baby Eric! I think not...... still it's better than his earlier suggestion of "juice"

Mind you we can't decide on boys name - front runners are James and Sam - any opinions on the two quite welcome as I am totally undecided

well i'd love to stay and chat this evening but Thursday is my day off (ha ha) and rather than being at work I have my full-of-energy 3 year old to occupy all day so am totally exhausted! This is not helped that DH disturbed my sleep on several occasions last night - one time it was because he was convinced we were being burgled - turned out it was our neighbour putting the wheelie bins out. Have informed DH in the strongest terms that I don't give a toss if we are burgled so long as they do it quietly and don't wake me....

Mollyfloss · 06/03/2008 19:25

NEM: could well be the combination. I'll ask my own obstetrician next week. We're supposed to be doing the second part of the birthing plan then. I must get my tens machine quick, I'm liking the idea of it more and more

SuzeM · 06/03/2008 20:07

Hi ladies.

Remind me, do I need to size up one or two sizes for hospital knickers? Someone said get the size that would fit you at 6 months but I have no idea what that would be as did not give up my usual skimpy style!

I couldn't find a black dressing gown so bought a red one from H&M, will that do?

Moominsmummy, I really like Sam, I would have gone for that if I were having a boy.

I took the day off for my NCT class, it was so nice not to be at work! The teacher recommended this instead of a Grobag. She also said it there is no point taking arnica before going into labour, although it won't do you any harm. She said she does not advise the castor oil route!

Congrats on your clever daughter, VS!

Molly, you are so lucky, I'm assuming I'll be 10 days overdue as my mother was with all of us. Then I'll be downing the castor oil like it is champagne!

Have to tidy up now before my FIL's visit, argh.

PortAndLemon · 06/03/2008 21:07

Just as warning -- my mother was 2-3 weeks late with all four of us so I blithely assumed I would be too. I ended up with my waters going and going into labour at 39+4 with nothing packed because I assumed I had ages yet...

If you don't have a c-section then you can stick to your regular size knickers, I think, as you can go for a fairly low-cut style. If you do have a c-section then you need big granny knickers; I had them a size larger than normal, I think.

I found that while Mothercare online and in the catalogue had discontinued the chocolate pyjamas they still had some in the Kew Mothercare, so bought another pair of those. I may see if my SIL can take them in to use as regular pyjamas once I've slimmed down a bit. Also picked up some waterproof pads for the bed and some baby size socks.

I'm not at all sure it's really sunk in that I'm having a baby SOON -- I have a sense of unreality about it.

SuzeM · 06/03/2008 21:32

Thanks PaL, I'll be ready just in case but have it in my head that the baby will be overdue, so I won't be disappointed on the 14th! I'm sorry I told family and friends my due date, I'd say the calls will get frustrating when there is no news to give.

PortAndLemon · 06/03/2008 21:35

The trouble is that whereas last time I was sure I'd go overdue so felt no sense of pressure, this time I can't help expecting DD to arrive at the same stage as DS did, even though this time I probably will go two weeks overdue (although I suspect if I approach that point they are going to start sucking their teeth and talking about repeat c-sections, and to be honest I'll probably be so fed up by that stage I'll take them up on it).

SuzeM · 06/03/2008 21:43

Hopefully your DD will be as prompt as your DS.

Piccalilli2 · 06/03/2008 21:55

I was more than 2 weeks late with dd and am mentally prepared for the same this time - in fact it'll be a bit of a shock if she's early as I'm now working til 37+5 and still have so much to do.

Mollyfloss · 06/03/2008 21:59

There's nothing to say I won't go late (just maybe a fast labour) so I'm mentally preparing myself for going late too. My Mum was late with all four of us.

EllieG · 07/03/2008 08:58

Well, I have been inspired reading these posts. Have decided to name baby Nelson Juice

Late to work this morning cos had to make DSD into Spy Dog. Luckily have an understanding boss!

Soph73 · 07/03/2008 09:10

Morning all. Haven´t read all your posts but love the name suggestions - think I´ll change Sam to Ladder We're off for another 4D scan in 20 mins & am really excited & a little nervous as slight paranoia kicking in again!

Soph73 · 07/03/2008 09:11

DS asked if once I´d had the baby would I be able to bend again ... think he´s sick & tired of picking stuff up for me

KnitterInTheNW · 07/03/2008 09:13

Morning chatterboxes!

Sheds & Denny, lunch sounds good to me, but if you can only do coffee that's fine too.
'
DH asked me last night if I thought I'd 'feel all light and be leaping around' after the baby comes (because I've been saying how heavy my bump is). I said I very much doubted I'd want to be leaping about, but it did make me remember a bit in my pg book about average weight gain and what makes it... Thought you might be interested? I think it's fascinating!
Baby-----3-4kg/7-9lb
Placenta-----------------0.7kg/1.5lb
Amniotic fluid---1kg/2lb
Maternal fat-------------2.5kg/5.5lb
Increased blood & fluid--1.5kg/3lb
Water retention----------2.5kg/5.5lb
Breasts------------------0.5kg/1lb
Uterus-------1kg/2lb

Total----12.7-13.7/28-30lb

No wonder we're all aching and waddling!

The midwife yesterday couldn't tell which way round my boy was cos I had 2 massive BH on the way round to the appt (a whole 5 mins walk) and everything was still a bit hard. She said his heartbeat was low down though so that was promising for him being right way round now. Guess I'll find out at my final growth scan next Wednesday (I'll be 36 weeks) and she she said they'll prob do a mini scan just to check before they decide if to induce or 'sunroof' him at 38 weeks as he's been breech so much.

Have a nice day ladies!
