Trouble with those Mothercare PJs is that while I like the bottoms and the cami top, I really dislike the spotty top half, and I resent buying a three-piece outfit that I'm only going to wear two-thirds of. Really I should just get over that, I know... . It was Mothercare who did the nice chocolate pair (and, I think, the old red checked pair) but they seem to have discontinued them now or else I'd just buy a second pair of those.

GI diet is going OK but I am fed up with it now (especially as I know that I ought to keep it up after the birth both to promote healthy weight loss and to reduce my chances of developing full-blown Type II diabetes later on, since having GD now puts me in a higher-risk category for that). I take my hat off to those who have to do it all the time. Presumably (given the baby's lovely stats) it's working in terms of preventing the GD affecting the baby, though, which is what's important. Mine is in a similar position to yours, or was at this morning's scan.

VictorianSqualor · 05/03/2008 12:52

I have pjs from primarks, that are vest tops so I can just move them a bit, also have some that are button up on the t-shirt bit.
They have TONS of pjs.

SuzeM · 05/03/2008 12:55

Cool, going to head to Primark tonight and stock up. I was thinking of looking at men's pajamas too, I'm sure it is easier to find dark colours.

PortAndLemon · 05/03/2008 12:56

I'm guessing 97th centile equates to somewhere around 9-9.5lb at 40 weeks?

VictorianSqualor · 05/03/2008 12:59

OH FUCK.

bunnyrabbit · 05/03/2008 13:03

Hi ladies,
Taking a quick break and it's taken me ages to catch up!!

How come you all have measurements and projected size/weights?for your LOs?? I have nothing!! Maybe 'cos this is my second, but I had nothing last time either. Very jealous.

Have a midwife appointment this PM so will try to get more than the usual 'everything is normal' comments

Because of my outrageous bust size I could only find white bras last time so ended up dying stuff. I do this with lots of things now, with varying degrees of success, so may be that's the solution to the pyjama issue???

And for those that are interested, DH is off to B&Q tonight for 3 ton of bits we need and will be purchasing large amounts of plastic sheeting as requesting by the midwife for home birth... nice!!

PortAndLemon · 05/03/2008 13:22

I get a growth scan because DS was 10 lb 5.3 oz at 39+5 and I have gestational diabetes this time round, so they were concerned I might be growing a monster baby! VS gets extra scans because she has placental/blood flow issues with this pregnancy so they are keeping a close eye on her.

9.5 lb is still dinky, really...

VictorianSqualor · 05/03/2008 13:24

9.5 sounds massive, but then I have to remember how much weight they put on towards the end, Ds was 8lb7.5 at 39 weeks so not really that big, but certainly not small!
DD, well, she was a huge little bleeder for being prem.

bunnyrabbit · 05/03/2008 13:34

Ahhh I see... (BR nods sagely). Rather glad I'm not in your situation then....

Must be reassuring though to have scans at this stage. I've not see my LO since 22 weeks. And it is quite amusing the whole projected weight size thing. Do they ever get it right? I only seem to see posts concening how wrong the projections usually are?

I also made the mistake of looking at several threads the other day concerning LOs that didn't make it. Damn stupid thing to do I know, but I just couldn't help myself. I was pretty worried before, bloody paranoid now!!

Oh and by the way, I cried whe I saw the Hired man and I wasn't pregnant.

BR

PortAndLemon · 05/03/2008 13:43

They were pretty much spot-on with their weight estimate for DS, to be fair. I think even officially the scans are only accurate to something like plus or minus ten percent in eighty percent of cases, or something like that.

bunnyrabbit · 05/03/2008 13:47

Shame really. Be nice to know exactly then it's easier to sort out clothes etc..... and of course being able to tell everyone that LO was going to be a big baby would be a good excuse for looking like I have a watermelon stuck to my front!!!!

VictorianSqualor · 05/03/2008 13:54

They were quite far off with both of mine, with DD they said she'd be about 2lb, she was 5lb 1.5oz, with Ds they were sure he was going to be 'a whopping ten-pounder' even the surgeons were placing bets on his size in theatre and no-one said less than 9lb 7oz, as I said he was 8lb 7.5, but they were right that he wasn't small I suppsoe.

vacaloca · 05/03/2008 14:12

Just had the mw at home this morning delivering my homebirth pack - I'm so excited . I had a meeting with her and her manager yesterday at the hospital to go over 'my case' (ie homebirth after 2 CS) - apparently it'll be the first one in this area but so far still very supportive. And I have a consultant appointment tomorrow with a sizing scan but midwives have already warned me that sizing scans at this stage can be as far out as 20% so I don't know why they're bothering doing it - probably so that the consultant can put the fear of god into me for attempting a homebirth but I won't be listening lah lah lah. Both DDs were 9lbs so I'm expecting something similar this time. It's not long now, is it?! I'm actually quite looking forward to it.

VictorianSqualor · 05/03/2008 14:16

Oooh vacaloca, go you!
Glad your homebirth plans are seemingly going well.
Who knows, maybe if I get my VBA2C this time and ever get pg again i'll have a homebirth next

PortAndLemon · 05/03/2008 14:17

Oh, it is, br -- it's been very useful when people comment on my size to be able to say "well, my first was ten pounds five-and-a-half, and they do say they get bigger..." as it results in my getting awed glances like I am some kind of superwoman and no further comments about how big I am. It also forestalls being told that "second babies are always bigger than first babies" which I know will be the next comment if I don't get to it first.

vacaloca · 05/03/2008 14:17

The pressure is on! I'd better deliver now (pun intended)

EllieG · 05/03/2008 14:34

Have just been to mothercare and spent a FORTUNE on about 3 things. Matresses and sheets - who knew they could be so expensive? My maternity grant better come soon or they'll be no eating this month. Think I have everything I need now though, at least for starters.

I have 1 crib blanket and a swaddle blanket and 2 cot blankets and a gro bag. Is that enough in the cover department? And do you need another cover if you have a swaddle blanket? They look very thin - just made of jersey stuff. Should I get another crib blanket?

moominsmummy · 05/03/2008 14:41

hi Ellie

don't bother buying more specific crib stuff - just get a £2 fleece blanket from tesco or similar and fold in half

or use the cot ones you already have

mattresses are v expensive and i've just had to buy a new one for this baba even though there's nothing wrong with the old one (scared into buying one by SIDS propaganda)

BTW - I just bought a gorgeous new dressing gown from tesco for £12 - they do them in fuschia (yuk) but also dark brown or black so v.practical for post birth stuff

pale PJs not quite as impractical as hospital I was in last time around - fully carpeted maternity wards and baths with no handles for getting in and out of

Soph73 · 05/03/2008 14:48

I´m still keeping my fingers crossed that I´ll have my VBAC, although the MW said last time that "you´ll probably have another CS as you had one the first time round" - thanks for the support love. She´s usually very positive but I suppose she´s right, not everyone can have a VBAC.

Soph73 · 05/03/2008 14:49

I thought I was going to get away without any BH today but no such luck. Do they usually happen every single day? I just don´t remember having them with DS1 but I suppose I was a lot calmer as I only worked part time then - hey ho!

SuzeM · 05/03/2008 14:49

Bunnyrabbit, I read those threads too (bad idea) and have just been snivelling at my desk.

The Tesco dressing gown sounds good, can you buy it online? We only have Tesco metros near us.

PortAndLemon · 05/03/2008 14:56

Carpeted maternity wards... eeeeeew!

moominsmummy · 05/03/2008 15:00

suze - just checked tesco.com and they don't list it online- sorry

Soph73 · 05/03/2008 15:00

LOL at PAL. I must admit I had the same thought when I read carpeted maternity wards. The DH of the woman in the bed next to me nearly passed out the first time I got up & walked to the bathroom as I had to have a cleaner mopping up behind me as I´d been laying flat for several hours after my CS!!

PortAndLemon · 05/03/2008 15:06

Swaddle blanket should be fine on its own -- bear in mind that they get several layers of it over most of them. Just adjust how many layers of what size they have on underneath depending on how warm it is (DS had anything from long-sleeved vest plus long-sleeved babygro plus swaddling blanket to just a nappy and a swaddling blanket).
