You'd normally only have birth partner and midwife there, unless things start getting more complicated, when doctors start appearing out of the woodwork, but in that case you'd probably be out of the water anyway.

I gradually shed clothes as I went last time -- I can remember trying to take off my pyjama vest top to get the hospital gown on to go into theatre and getting all tangled up with various tubes and leads and stuff .

Took RLT tablets last time, not sure it made any difference -- I suppose DS wasn't overdue, but ha! to the shorter/less painful/less traumatic... Not doing anything that might accelerate labour this time until DH is safely back from Nepal!

northeastmummy · 04/03/2008 17:09

Aaaarrrggghh ... slow down . I've missed all the good stuff and now everyone's gone home .

That's a crazy story about your family Scorpio. What was that guy up to? How very very weird - I hope they're not too freaked out about it.

I heard somewhere that RLT was discovered because sheep that were eating the leaves off raspberry bushes were having better labours than those that weren't. I think it's fairly tried and tested - I drank the tea last time and am doing it again this time.

I had a spell of insomnia last night so watched Dawn getting a baby in the middle of the night. It confirmed to me that I definitely don't want to be in the water ... and that my DH is getting nowhere near the business end! I can't believe I've gone through that and am about to do it again!

velbels · 04/03/2008 17:34

I've just watched Dawn on iPlayer and yes i cried!

Piccalilli2 · 04/03/2008 17:41

Top tip ladies, no matter how strong the nesting instinct gets DO NOT attempt to clean the cooker. I did mine yesterday and have been feeling sick and headachey ever since.

Bizarrely I really cannot remember what I wore in labour last time. I do remember not wanting anything on my feet and being told off by the midwives for wandering the hospital corridors barefoot. I am so hoping to be able to get most of the labour out of the way at home this time so I can do what I want, when I want without disturbing anyone or getting lectured by midwives.

TheMaskedPoster · 04/03/2008 17:51

oh Piccalilli2 - poor you, hope the nauseous headache passes soon! I will take your tip on board and not clean the cooker (and I was so looking forward to that! )

Haven't watched Dawn, and don't think I will ... will stick my head in sand again until my labour begins and then grin and bear it .. or not!

Right ladies .. where are you all getting your Arnica and RLT tablets etc from? Was thinking Holland and Barrett - is that right or do Boots/Mothercare do such things??

PS- Blimey Scorpio .. scary stuff re your sisters!

PortAndLemon · 04/03/2008 17:52

I think my nesting instinct (should it ever materialise) is only likely to extend as far as calling a specialist company to come and clean my cooker...

In fact, that sounds like the sort of nesting I could manage...

velbels · 04/03/2008 17:53

i have only found RLT in Holland and Barrett but Boots definately do Arnica

TheMaskedPoster · 04/03/2008 17:59

ta velbels - will go hunting for supplies tomorrow

Denny185 · 04/03/2008 18:10

By end of labour ended up with 9 people in the room and didnt give a rats arse just wanted the baby out. Even more in theatre, and honextly you really dont care.

Scorpio, OMG to the show and whats happened to your family, glad they are all ok.

Sheds and Knitter, Im glad you rememinded me of the day, couldnt remember if we'd said 10th or 11th. The pub is called the salt cellar does food and has indoor/outdoor play area - any other suggestions?

Havnt been on for few days as have had bout of herpes up by my eye and havnt been able to wear my glasses, so too much time on the pc gives me a headache. Its v bizarre, had cold sores for years by nose, and though I knew you could get them elsewhere still couldnt believe it. Have to go back to gp tomorro to decide whether I need to go to eye clinic to clear the eyball itself.

DD felt Lo hiccuping tonight which was apparently 'disgusting', shes such a mini teenager think we may have some real problems when she does hit the teenage years.

moominsmummy · 04/03/2008 19:16

Sorry for being such a latecomer but can I join up?? Am expecting a surprise ,midwives say i am due 25th April - altho DS was 2 weeks late (horrid horrid induction experience) so am expecting this one will be late too.

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 19:17

Wow.. ok VS no caster oil for me then!!
Aww to velbels for watching Dawn and crying.. me too.. me too.
I got my Raspberry Leaf tabs from holland and barret online. I also recieved my black and white disposable camera though the post today and so have to pack it into my hospital bag. I managed to finally do some cleaning in the kitchen today. No fear of me going near the oven though. I don't even know what the inside of it looks like half the time.
Me and DP just had an argument. He gets so irritable when he gets a cold. Anyone would think the world had ended! I don't see why after trying to cheer him up and cleaning and cooking I should have to let him bring me down. So I have retreated to mumsnet with a bag of minieggs.

Hmmmm.. I wonder if Holland and Barret do donkeys....

KnitterInTheNW · 04/03/2008 19:32

I've had a busy day, got up at 7:15 ish and started cleaning the house again for a viewing this evening, took 3 hours even though there really wasn't anything much to do. Most of it was like, hoover a room, sit down for 10 mins cos of achey back. Wipe the kitchen tops down, sit down for 10 mins. Fill the mop bucket with water, sit down for 10 mins. But got it all done before going to visit a friend and her 15 month old this afternoon. It was lovely to get out of the house and have some company, it's been a bit lonely at home over the last few weeks. Thank goodness for MN, at least I've got someone to talk to whenever I want!

Denny, The salt cellar sounds good to me, I don't know of anywhere so can't suggest anywhere else! What sort of time is good for you two? I can come whenever's best to fit in with when your lo's normally eat etc.

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 19:34

Well done Knitter.. sounds like you did more than me!!
Have a miniegg

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 19:39

Oh and hugs for northeastmummy. You can have a whole bag of minieggs!
-Has trouble handing them over at first.. and then finally lets go-

moominsmummy · 04/03/2008 19:51

that's nice sharing PFJ - thanks

Knitter - gold star for your nesting efforts - last pg I even gloss painted the skirting boards INSIDE the larder (I mean why?????)

this time am working up to 38 weeks then have to take DH for hospital treatment so will be lucky if i remember to get some nappies in in time.......

chipmonkey · 04/03/2008 20:26

Scorpio, at that man in your parents' house! Your poor sisters!
Does anyone else have a craving for raw broccoli? Very unlike me, I'm not at all macrobiotic! And if I do eat some, I feel sick!

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 22:15

Funnily enough chipmonkey.. and you won't actually believe this, but its completely true, and I'm not joking.. but I actually haven't craved raw broccoli.
Hehe. Thats a weird craving I think. But hey, they get much much weirder than that!
If I get strange cravings I try to write them done. So many women much older than me proudly reel off all food they craved during pregnancies to the delight of their children, so I thought I might try to remember some myself.
So far though I have: Rice Crispies. LOTS
Oranges.
Mini eggs.
Eggs, and egg mayo and bacon sarnies.
None of these are foods I wouldnt normally eat though.
I have however completely gone off NobblyBobbly lollies, which usually I can't get enough of!

chipmonkey · 04/03/2008 22:22

Another one a couple of weeks ago, was a stick of mature cheddar which would have been fine except that I knew that it needed a dollop of strawberry jam on it!!!! I know that in some posh restaurants you get deep-fried Brie with a sort of chutney so maybe this is my poor man's version!

chipmonkey · 04/03/2008 22:23

BTW, where's Peachy today? She hasn't gone and had that baby early, has she?

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 04/03/2008 22:37

ooh chipmonkey just saw you elsewhere and checked your profile ( nosy!)

do you know what you are having ( this said as a pg mum of lots of boys!)

chipmonkey · 04/03/2008 23:03

yep, another 3-legged creature

KnitterInTheNW · 04/03/2008 23:23

My cravings have been, in this order...

Walkers smokey bacon crisps
Cheese & branston pickle, with as much pickle as cheese.
Starbucks cheese & marmite paninis (that was an expensive phase!)
Boxes and boxes of rice krispies, and clementines (that was over xmas, tea most days would be 3 massive bowls of rice krispies and maybe 6 clementines)
Currently on coco shreddies and apples. And banana milk. And actually anything that isn't a 'proper' meal.

The friend I went to see today texted last night to ask if I wanted to go for lunch, but it'd just be cheese on toast. I craved cheese on toast ALL NIGHT but thought it not sensible to get up at 2am to make some.

PortAndLemon · 04/03/2008 23:31

Bit of a rant... why on earth are almost all maternity/nursing pyjamas (which is realistically what you need in the early days if breastfeeding) in pale colours? Let's face it, in the days and weeks after birth you do not want to be wearing pale colours on your bottom half. I have one pair from DS that are red and white checked, and managed to pick up a pair in a sort of chocolate colour a couple of weeks ago, but almost everything else is pale pink or pale blue or pale grey. Have the designers never met a woman who's just had a baby?

Bah.

ThePFJ · 05/03/2008 01:02

No. Definately not PortandLemon Which sucks arses.

-Stuffs herself with crispies flying everywhere- Glad I am not the only...-munch- one eating loads of -munch dribble- rice crispies! -burps-
