Poor Sal, I know what you mean. Projects are finishing, running down, or being handed over so the days are starting to drag.... means at least I can get onto mumsnest for the first time in about 3 years!!

I've taken rasperry leaf tea for pmt but didn't think about pregnancy/labour. I've used arnica cream before too, but didn't know it came in tablet form.

Thanks for the tips ladies

BR

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 14:58

Talking of naturally... who here is having a home birth? And how etc?
I am going into hospital where I am partaking of as many drugs as possible, except pethadine as it crosses over to the baby. If I am brave I will try just gas and air and see how I go. Me and pain are not really great friends you see...(It's my first remember so I am allowed to be a scaredy cat?)
I might use their pool. If its not full of another lady giving birth.

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 15:02

Nope.. they did not convert me..
I always did say though if life ever got me down alot instead of jumping off a pier and wottnott I'd go be a nun and grow cucumbers Seriously.

EllieG · 04/03/2008 15:05

Think is a bit late for the nun option love....

I am going for the much pain-relief kind of birth. Have discussed birthing pools and like the sound of it but only if the world and his wife are not in the room seeing all me lady bits wallowing around. Otherwise I am sticking to drugs.

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 15:09

BTW Scorpio.. your poor sisters.. how WEIRD was that!

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 15:11

After watching Dawn gets a baby EllieG I just know I won't care who is looking at my bits. My mum may be there.. and I was feeling like she might point and tell me I look fat.. but now, I think its all about getting the baby out and I don't care anymore.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 04/03/2008 15:20

I'm doing hypnobirthing so therefore should not need pain relief (I hope!) Also thinking about the birthing pool idea - but NOT keen at all about me being a show for everyone to watch. I am sure you can request for there to be only MW present - can't you?

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 15:25

Apparently yes. Chesterfield give first time mums their own room which is a bit more private too. I had a tour of the delivery suites offered to me and I took it. It was SO reassuring. If you can do that, then I highly recommend it.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 04/03/2008 15:29

Your hospital sounds very nice! Mine is a 1st come, 1st serve kind of hospital - so I am hoping when the day comes I will be able to get a private room and I will be able to get the birthing pool!

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 15:31

Well at least April won't be as busy as September! Fingers crossed! My nightmare is turning up and there being absolutely no where to give birth.. But I know this won't happen and I am being silly.

velbels · 04/03/2008 15:34

Oh my birth pool has just arrived we are hoping for a home birth, all being well. I love hot baths so i am working on the idea it might help me relax, I am willing to try anything that may keep me out of hospital, but thats just me!

scorpio about you family glad to hear that nothing was taken and I hope they get over the shock soon.

ThePFJ · 04/03/2008 15:35

Before I go to the CO-OP and attempt my housework I wanted to say that little one inside me is ALL ABOUT the hiccups at the moment! He must get them 3 times a day at least! Anyone else getting this?
xxx

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 04/03/2008 15:47

No hiccups for my LO yet - but she/he is a wiggle worm for sure! Non stop!

scorpio1 · 04/03/2008 15:47

Home Birth for me, with just gas and air if i need it.

Hopefully i manage to stay at home; if nothing is wrong then i will be fine!

Ellie - you will not care who sees your bits, trust me. I had a male MW with Reilly; was totally naked when i had Jamie as cloth texture just annoyed me. Will prob be naked again this time - i get quite sweaty and hot and any clothes just irritate me.

TIP - get a hairband if you have a fringe. You will want to rip it out otherwise!!

VictorianSqualor · 04/03/2008 15:54

I got my hairband today actually, along with new toothbrushes (for me and dp, it's amazing how much someones smelly coffee breath can piss you off when you've been in hospital a while)
and my other little bits and bobs for my toiletry bag.

Did someone mention castor oil earlier btw?
Meant to say, don't do it. It causes your bowels to overwork, causing diarohea and vomiting which can apparently make your uterus decide to 'empty' itself too, but it can also make baby excrete inside you and swallowing meconium is not very good.
If you do decide to do it, please speak to your mw first.

Soph73 · 04/03/2008 15:57

LOL at the link being of a sexual nature, I work in a school FGS Scorpio's right you don´t give a fig who sees what when it starts, I was wheeled naked on a hospital trolley to the operating theatre with a porter whistling away quite happily to himself Only pain relief here is epidural - not good!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 04/03/2008 16:02

I can't ever imagine not caring who sees me naked! Will let you know after the event if I did stop caring!

Soph73 · 04/03/2008 16:03

VS - omg that sounds awful for the poor little blighter. Definately won´t be trying that then. I´ve now got dreadful period-type pains, it´s not nice

Soph73 · 04/03/2008 16:05

M2B2BR - I felt exactly the same way before I had DS1, then I was induced, then I couldn´t give a sh**

christmaspixie · 04/03/2008 16:21

Trying for a homebirth here too- we're only 15 mins from hospital and will bail if I need more drugs. You can have gas and air and pethadine at home. And last time my epidural didn't work very well, so I don't trust it again!

I keep reading this thread, can't keep up with all the posts!! I didn't know 2/5 engaged actually means 4/5ths inside the rim....I am 2/5ths engaged now, but it's second baby so think it will probably pop right out again! I have 6 weeks left, which sometimes seems like forever, and sometimes really near. I've done absolutely nothing to prepare yet!! hope she's not early!

EllieG · 04/03/2008 16:21

I know I probably won't care, I just feel like I will now. Good tip about hairband though, will remember to pack one.
Have bought some new comfy pj's to wear after so feel bit nicer too.

christmaspixie · 04/03/2008 16:23

oh yes, I still did care about who saw me naked, I tried the water pool and got out straight away last time because I felt so on show and vulnerable and un-relaxed. (It was a big pool though, and a big room). I wore a t-shirt for the labour, and a hospital gown down to my knees!!

EllieG · 04/03/2008 16:24

I have bought a nice big nightie for labour. And the MW said in the birthing pool room the lights are low and only she and DP will be there. And she said I can wear a top in it.

bunnyrabbit · 04/03/2008 16:33

Home birth if I make it to 37 weeks.

Thoroughly recommend using a TENs for pain relief.

Oh and as for hiccoughs, LO gets them all the time and as he's 'well down there' it feels like my 'undercarriage' is hiccoughing!! Very weird on the train

Off home soon so catch you all tomorrow

BR

Soph73 · 04/03/2008 16:39

If I remember rightly I had an awful gown thingy that I had to put on, which I suppose is better than wearing your own stuff in one way, but definately not as comfy. Anyway, got to go for now. See you all tomorrow
