Hello ladies, the last thread appeared to run out, I hope you all don't mind me being so bold as to start a new one?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
donbean · 04/03/2008 20:11

Thanks all about labour reassurances. Its because i had such a horrendous birth with my son. Im wrestling with the c.section vs v birth.

We have a 3 bed semi, we started the ball rolling for loft conversion and conservatory in Dec after talking about it for 12 months. So we had begun before i became pregnant but for the sole reason that if we were going to expand the family, we want to go bigger sooner rather than with a young family.
Cant wait.
I get to decorate a babies bedroom again..(if all goes well of course)

donbean · 04/03/2008 20:14

Aubergenie, i had one of those mcs before i had my son, very awful, so sorry for you.
How exciting to see your baby at 6 weeks, can i ask, did you have an internal scan or a normal scan for that at 6 weeks?

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/03/2008 20:35

Any news on getting a scan Sarah?

Great news re the scan Sambrads, but hope you find a reason for your pain soon.

tedmundo - haven't a clue what you should do, but assuming baby will come in with you to start with, I wouldn't worry about making a decision until s/he's here.

We're not sure what we'll do with ours either. We don't actually need another bedroom (have a 4 bed house already, plus a downstairs study), but thought we might want to convert at some point, and it will be much harder to do once the new conservatory is up, as there won't be access to build the dormer window. We know that we want to move dd so that we have her room for the baby (it's the detached side of our semi, so crying won't disturb neighbours, as well as being the nearest to our bedroom), but we're not sure whether to move dd to loft room or existing spare room. I think we'll aim to put her in loft, as long as we are happy with ability to get out in event of fire.

PrePG - building foundations is definitely not something for a pregnant woman to be doing! We won't be doing any of the work ourselves, as dh is completely talentless when it comes to anything diy related!

Nearly 12 hour labour here. It hurt, but was manageable on G&A and tens machine. I really do believe that a positive mental attitude helps when it comes to labour, and I wasn't nervous about it at all. Will in fact be more nervous this time now I know what I'm in for .

Ekka · 04/03/2008 21:01

Evening all,

Hats off to all of you planning building work/moves in the next few months! We moved when I was 6mths pregnant with dd, it was tiring but definitely worth getting out of the mice-infested rented terrace house in London, to our own 4-bed place.... Mind you, I'm glad we don't have to do anything like that this time round!!! The only issue is where to put this dc - the little single room is above the porch is far too cold, so it will have to have the spare room. Looks like any guests will have to sleep on the floor from October onwards!

Still not feeling very pregnant (like last time round) except I'm absolutely shattered. Sadly I think dd has finally started teething (at nearly 9 months ) as she has been waking up lots over the last few nights and had a temp this evening and is biting everything. Of course this would be the night dh has a dinner in London

Aubergenie · 04/03/2008 21:07

Hi Donbean, Yes it was awful (and so common, I found out after the fact) but the good thing was that I got pregnant after only 1 period.

The 6 week scan was a normal abdominal one, but I'd been fully expecting them to have to do an internal. I was 6 weeks 4 days. I think at that stage even a couple of days makes a difference as to whether they can find it abdominally. I couldn't see much, just a little blob with a flashing heartbeat. The 9 week one was much clearer with arms and legs moving about and everything!

tedmundo · 04/03/2008 21:50

I am reassured that you are thinking of sticking the toddlers in the loft csws and donbean! That would be the best solution for us but I just feel so MEAN - like I am sticking him out of the way for when new baby gets here

Back to feeling sick again today and had to tell a couple of the mums at baby group why I was so miserable. They were more excited that I am.

Also in a guilt spiral as shouted at ds yesterday when he would not stop being clingy and crying when all I wanted to do was barf. We live in a semi so next door got a right earful of me yelling "Please Shut Up" every 5 minutes as I tried to stop yakking! My patience store is running on empty right now. Roll on week 12 when I hope to feel human again.

congrats csws! i dont think i could ever get a doppler i would drive myself mad if i couldnt find the heartbeat

bigmouthstrikesagain · 04/03/2008 23:02

congratulations on finding a heartbeat csws - that must be amazing!

Hope all is well with the October crowd.

Well I have just come back from the most hellish holiday ever! Seeing as I had just got a very unexpected bfp I was hoping fro some R&R in the Canaries. But it started badly with dd throwing up on me on the plane and then in the coach (I also had to have her on my knee for the entire flight as she is under 2 but she weighs the same as a 3 or 4 yo!) - then the poor little thing was ill with very high fever and a horrible rash. We called a Doctor out and she was prescribed antibiotics but I had to keep dd out of pool and away from beach all week - so I barely left the apartment. I was ill as was my dh, only the in-laws and ds were able to do actually get out and enjoy the resort.

The flight home was delayed so we finally arrived home exhausted pale and in need of a holiday - at 4am this morning! I am never going abroad again!!!!

Still will hopefully find out when I am actually due in the next few weeks!

twostrokefour · 04/03/2008 23:17

Ooooo! Just found out no4 due 6 October!! Thought I'd join you ladies!! How can I be so out of touch with my body?! (anyone else?)I blamed all the tiredness and feeling generally crap on moving house/breastfeeding (no regular periods) looking after 10 mo old etc.... Soooo exited!

Had a lovely home waterbirth last time so already planning this one and choosing names & thinking of buying neuteral clothes for dd..... think I'm getting a bit over-exited now!

Congrats 2stroke4 and welcome... I am almost ten wks and I have been really struggling not to get over excited (even if I do not feel particularly pregnant so to speak...
But then I have not been pregnant before so I am not sure whether I know what it feels to be pregnant).

I am quite that people are already starting to think about labour here - I will not even get a scan date until March 25th

bethoo · 05/03/2008 09:56

CSWS - Once you have found the heartbeat the first time it gets easier! have yuo heard the placenta too and any movements? i am a bit concerend as i can hear placenta swooshing on both sides of my tummy, can you or is it just one place as i think i may be having twins in that cazse and my house is not big enough!!!!

hansnava · 05/03/2008 09:59

I FEEL SICK

tedmundo- im so glad u said that about ur patience with ur ds, i feel like im constantly shouting at dd to be quiet or when shes sitting on my lap to sit still. i feel like a really bad parent at the moment, others have a smell or a taste that makes then feel sick i have my dd

i havent even started to think about labour yet, had a really bad one last time and ended up having e.c.section.

ok u ladies that already have dc, as a bit of fun: WHAT DID FIND OUT WHILE GIVING BIRTH THAT U WERE NEVER TOLD ABOUT?

hansnava · 05/03/2008 10:02

i will start, that u can have a no: 2 while pushing and really not care about it

tedmundo · 05/03/2008 10:25

hansnava - we can sit in the bad mummy shame corner together until sickness goes and we can be normal again!

I found out that sometimes no matter how much you BEG BEG BEG for pain relief, it is not always forthcoming. I begged without shame and got NOTHING apart from gas and air which I threw across the room as it was USELESS! I am still having 'Nam like flashbacks to birth of ds (only part joking here - it was traumatic).

I am making sure I start begging for the epidural the MINUTE I get in the hospital doors, every minute on the minute for this one. They are not fobbing me off again.

bethoo · 05/03/2008 10:35

i never knew that you threw up once your waters broke or is that not the usual? i remember my poor sisters look of horror as she grabbed a kidney shaped carbdoard dish to throw under neath my exorcist like mouth!!!

ronshar · 05/03/2008 11:21

I did not know that with a normal vaginal delivery you can actually feel the arms and legs working thier way out of you. My first DD was induction, epidural and ventouse. DD2 was home birth with tens. I know which one I shall be chosing this time.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 05/03/2008 11:36

Good morning! - I have a urine infection and thrush so antibiotics, cream and cranberry juice for me this week sorry if tmi

I also have little patience for my 2 dc's at the moment so can I join Tedmundo and Hansnava in the corner of shame please. I dread to think what Sept will be like as ds is starting school then and if all is well then I will be the size of a house and about to drop not great timing there really. Still no point in fretting.

I have had a hospital birth with all the available drugs and a homebirth with none - I still have the birthing pool and would prefer another 'home delivery' if possible. I wish I had known how long things can take to progress, when I had my first baby, as I went into hospital far to soon.

ronshar · 05/03/2008 11:49

I have just given my doppler another outing from the back of my wardrobe. It is all very noisy in there isnt it? I found a heartbeat eventually but very very faint. I had to put the doppler on my lower back to get a clear sound. If you place it around where your coxys is you have a good chance of hearing more than your own heart beat.

I am also a bad parent. No patience and also rubbish dinners being produced from cafe chez ronshar

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/03/2008 12:07

bethoo - I didn't throw up when my waters broke, so I guess that was just you! I did throw up when I had my first bit of G&A though. And again when I had my second bit. Since it was the only pain relief I had planned, I persevered and got used to it!

What I didn't know until after the birth, and talking to others, is that normally you do not have stitches without any pain relief.

How odd that you needed the doppler on your back ronshar! I had mine just above my pubic hairline I think. I wasn't paying attention to much else apart from the heartbeat really, so can't answer your question yet bethoo.

I lose my patience with dd over the same thing every night. She refuses to clean her teeth, or have them cleaned, so I have to pin her down and hold her arms to do them. It is horrible. We are off to the dentist this afternoon, so will be interesting to see what he has to say about their condition.

ronshar · 05/03/2008 12:17

Sheepishly I have to admit I am only 9+2. so really I am pushing it to hear a heartbeat. I found it was really noisy down on my hairline too much hair regrowth maybe.

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/03/2008 12:23

I was only 9+3 when I found it yesterday ronshar, although I wasn't really expecting that I would. I trimmed the other day .

belgo · 05/03/2008 12:26

I had an eight week scan last week. The sonographer said that they can trace the heartbeat, but they woulnd't listen to the heartbeat because this could upset the baby at such a vital stage of development.
