Hello ladies, the last thread appeared to run out, I hope you all don't mind me being so bold as to start a new one?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

To all loft conversion ladies - I have a q for you. How do you plan to use it?!

We already have a converted attic and it is a huge guest room at the mo with computer in it. We sleep on the 1st floor with DS in the 3rd bedroom. When dc2 comes along - do we move to the attic and have kiddies on floor below? Or move ds up to the attic (stairgates at the top of course!!) and let new baby have his nursery.

This is going to sound manic but I am awake at night trying to decide how best to do this! I want to know the sex this time as if another boy then they can both (eventually) go up to the attic (out of the way!).

On a more pregnancy related topic - my sickness has pretty much gone which is good - but bad too as now I am worried. No pleasing some people hey!

tedmundo · 04/03/2008 08:47

Sambrads - scary night for you. But v glad to hear all was well in the end. And you got to have a sneaky peek at the wee one! You must have been made up to see him/her peeping back at you!

bethoo · 04/03/2008 09:39

sambrands- sounds like you may have cystitis! ouch. try drinking lots of cranberry juice just in case.

i am hungry and not iykwim!!! it is like a constant hangover feeling when must eat ohterwise sickness kicks in thouhg i do not know what to eat! usually cheesy watsits at the mo!!

Spink · 04/03/2008 09:41

hey sambrads, make sure you rest well today to make up for that night! you must've been so relieved and happy in the end though. Yay for your little beany saying hello. Does that mean s/he will be a mischievous one, going to those lengths to be able to say hello to his mummy??

I kind of wish we could do a loft conversion, though it would be more like sticking an extra room onto the side of the house using some kind of cantilever system...
We are planning to move house before baby comes, because we have a teeny flat, one & a half bedrooms really, and tho baby will be with us for the 1st 6 months, we'd love some more space and a garden... problem is, whatever we sell our flat for is all we have to buy a new place, no extra money anywhere, so it means moving to a less expensive area and away from the place we know and love ... will be GREAT to have a garden though! and for our guests not to have to go through our bedroom to get to the bathroom!!

Spink · 04/03/2008 09:47

ooh, and I've got my dates for scans and booking in appointment with the mw - very exciting! 31st March for the scan, so I think I'll be about 12 weeks ish, and 25th for the mw. She was the community mw I had before and was very laid back, which felt a bit odd to start with as I wanted to be fussed over!! and later was just brilliant. She couldn't make it to ds's birth so I haven't seen her since I was 38 weeks pg just over a year ago! can't wait to catch up with her and introduce ds to the woman who poked him lots before he arrived!

Jambers99 · 04/03/2008 10:06

Sambrads, how scary - but great that it had a happy ending!

Tedmundo, our plan for the loft is to get a big bedroom & shower room up there that DH & I will (eventually) share. We have two largish bedrooms and one small bedroom on the first floor at the moment, with the small bedroom being used for the computer, bookshelves, etc. To start with, new baby will be in with us, but ultimately we'd like DS and DC2 to have a large bedroom each so there's no fighting over who gets the big room.

sambrads · 04/03/2008 10:25

thanks so much ladies

bethoo before i had my ds i always had cystitis nearly once a month it was awful.

i dont think this is tough cause i am sore one day then ok the next then sore again cystitis normally lasts about a week with me of constant pain i can hardly even sit down when i have it

i am seeing my gp tomorrow to do a few more tests so maybe i will know better then

spink i think ths baby could be a rascle hahaha

i have never felt less pregnant than what i do now .
no sickness or pains . i am tired but i never got to bed til 1 and ds had me up at 7.30 so that explains that .
so ladies dont worry if you dont feel pregnant i am living proof things are ok

PrePG · 04/03/2008 11:16

Not a loft conversion here - but building into the side return and out the back a bit. Our planning permission just came through in January after about 10 months - first a rejection and then finally a successful appeal! Keep thinking we're a bit mad to do this now too! DH is doing a lot of work himself and I feel so guilty for not helping. Even though I'm not sick or overly tired, I just think digging foundations is not something a pregnant woman should be doing!!!

MrsBish · 04/03/2008 11:59

Wow Sambrands that image of your little one looking at you on the scan just made me cry!!
I have no sickness now - which is also making me get really worried - I know it's daft and I should just enjoy it, but can't help but fret! Have got my booking appt this afternoon - just hope DS behaves sitting with the modwife for an hour! My scan is 26th March - which seems like a lifetime away.

SmudgeyDoodle · 04/03/2008 12:36

Wow, busy stuff over the weekend. Glad all is well (with the baby at least!) Sambrands. Very of you already meeting LO. I haven't even seen the doctor yet! I'm only 7 weeks today so they said not to bother seeing the doctor til 8 weeks and so scan etc will probably be in about September!
People with small age gaps. Are you all going to get double buggies? We live in a small house and I get the bus everywhere and I'm contemplating putting DS into training to get him to walk and to take a sling for the baby if DS has had enough. Am I dillusional that this could work?

bethoo · 04/03/2008 13:22

smudgey- same predicament here. i like the idea of a double buggy especially when walking the dog but it will be a nightmare on the bus. some busses you have to fold down and i do nto know how i could cope with a newborn and a not even 2 year old! and it will have ot fold down small so can fit in the car. a side by side will not fit out my front door and supposadly the tandems can be quite heavy! have seen one i like a Graco but still pricey and tbh i love my bebecar i already have so may have newborn in sling and current child keep in that!! Decisions decisions!!!

Flum · 04/03/2008 13:38

Tedmundo. Well our attic is at back of house and will have its own staircase so not really practical as a bedroom. It will be DHs study as he works from home. Not sure what we will do with his old study/cupboard - might even make it into baby room as it is right by our 1st floor sitting room. Our house is wierd anyway. Our dds share a big room on 2nd floor. We sleep on 1st floor. We have two small spare rooms. If we have another dd I will put her in one of the spare rooms until about 2 years old then put her in with dd2 and give dd1 her own room. Not sure if we have a ds. Will see how things go. I like having 2 spare rooms as we have lots of weekend guests and they ALL have kids now!

bethoo · 04/03/2008 13:40

i am envious of htose who no longer feel sicky!! thought it had gone but oh no it is still haunting me!! my mate burped rahter unlady like and i was retching everywhere!!! feel bed is beckoning me when i finish work! was going to take dog on field but may just push him into the garden nd let him stand by the back door for 5 mins!!

9+1

Hi,
so we have got a date for our loft conversion to begin and for the man to build our conservatory, week after next. Planning permission should come through any day now.
Gonna put ds up into the loft and put beany in ds's bedroom next to ours. We will have lots of extra room for the new baby.

Feeling a bit funny this last few days.
Tired and achy.
Had really bad back ache all day today as well.(been sat at a very small cramped desk all day)
Boobs very very sore, feeling off food, yet ravenously hungry at meal times! Odd eh?

this time is very very different to previous pregnancies.
Got my 1st antinatal on Thursday, hoping for a date for an early scan then as well.
Having major panics about the birth. (ffs im only 7 weeks!!)
Hope every one is ok.

sambrads · 04/03/2008 16:42

donbean i have come up with this to get me through the thought of giving birth:

you are pregnant for 9 long months you have aches and pains and tiredness and feel like crap .

when it comes to the birth just think you will be spending 1 day /24 hours the most and then your baby will be out .

if you think thats its only 1 day of your life that you have to really suffer then a life time of joy watching your baby grow .

i hope this helps you as i am prepared already

my ds was a 12 hour labour i was induced which ment i had 1 constant contraction the whole way through and i had back labour which they say is the worst and i done it with no pain relief .

yes its sore but well worth it .

just remember there is alot of pain relief and things to help you get through it .

labour is rubbish, and boring if you have epidural. but 2 mins later you don't care as u have your bundle of joy.

sambrads · 04/03/2008 17:32

oh my god knickersonmahead that is long but it was worth it

lets not worry the first time mums

daisyj · 04/03/2008 17:56

As a first timer, can I just say it's actually quite reassuring to hear about other people's experiences (as long as it's not too gory ). Sambrads, that must a been a real relief to see the little one - how exciting!

On the subject of conversions and moving, we're having the survey (I nearly wrote 'scan' then - not obssessed, honestly!) done tomorrow on the flat we're hoping to buy near to where our one-bedroom flat is now. It's only two bedrooms, but huge, with lots of potential, hopefully. It seems as though everyone has babies and moves/does building work at the same time. I think it must be a nesting thing, and maybe not mad, as I think it helps take your mind off worrying/thinking too much (particularly for those of us who don't have other children to occupy us).

We put our flat on the market and started looking in the hope that we would be able to have a baby, and within two weeks I was PG (after ttc for 10 months) - I'm convinced it was the thought of having a family home to put a family in that did it!

Hello ladies, Do you mind if I join you? I've been lurking for a while but reluctant to post in case I jinx everything. Silly I know, but I had a miscarriage last year (anembrionic pregnancy with empty sac) and I was anxious not to get too excited in case it all went wrong. The hospital have been great though and I've had 2 reassurance scans already, one at 6 weeks and one at 9 weeks, last Friday. I felt very lucky being able to see the baby moving about last week and, although I know I'm not out of the woods yet, now I do feel like I can begin to look ahead.

Can't join in with the extension/ loft conversion conversation as we live in a 1-bedroom basement flat, but I can certainly relate to all the nausea complaints!

Have a good evening everyone!
