Oh, just remembered something funny from my booking in appt - the mw asked how long my dd's birth was and how long I pushed for. When I told her 3 mins of pushing (yes, really - I got so annoyed with the whole thing and just wanted to go to bed ) she said that I should definitely consider a hb with this one as well - apparently 1st births take on average 1hr pushing, so she reckons if the first one was quick this one will probably 'just drop out' . My dh has been laughing since he got home about that

bethoo · 12/03/2008 20:35

Ekka - similar to me, he was out in 5 pushes as what not ging ot endure more than i had to!! i was not even pushing with the contractions so freaked out!! jsut pushing when i could catch my breath and inhale as much g&a as poss!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/03/2008 20:37

Ekka - a friend had just arrived in hospital when she was having her third, and she needed the toilet. She went and to her dismay found the head popping out!

Ekka · 12/03/2008 20:53

Eeeek!!!! CSWS - not sure how I'd cope with that..... DH is now totally grossed out . Def think that hb is on the cards again .

Bethoo - that sounds so similar to me!!! DH says I was getting really cross with dd for just not popping out . Have to say, I can't imagine pushing for 1hr, though I know people who say they weren't really that fazed by it .

bethoo · 12/03/2008 21:01

is it jsut me or is anyones nausea constant? i find it particularly bad at night! cant sleep as think i am going to throw up with that wishy washy feeling in my tummy. am 10 weeks so only another 2 weeks to go. when i was having my booking in i had ot have a wee sample and was dry retching in the loo too!!! sometimes i think that i prevent myself from actually throwing up whcih makes it worse i think!!!!

moodywren · 12/03/2008 22:48

Had my booking in appointment today. They were fine about me having a home birth even thought they said there's a slightly higher risk of bleeding because of the number of pregnancies I've had.

Things are very different here to my previous pregnancies. I have always had one midwife all the way through but this time I could see any one of 9 different midwives. But I am going to have a student following my case all the way through, which is quite nice at least I will have one familiar face with me at all my appointments and the birth.

Midwife today said I had Lucozites (probably spelt it wrong) in my urine, and could have a urine infection but I haven't got any symptoms and I've never heard of them before.

hansnava · 13/03/2008 00:17

hi ladies,
im thinking of buying a doppler. can ne one tell me is a angelsounds doppler just as good as a more expensive type that the midwives use.

hansnava · 13/03/2008 00:17

???

Jambers99 · 13/03/2008 07:53

How exciting that we've all got appointments and scans, it starts to make everything more real doesn't it? I saw the GP yesterday, so I now have the big blue file of maternity notes. I've got to ring the hospital next week to arrange my scan, so hopefully I'll get a date for that on Monday. Annoyingly though the doctor changed my due date to 26 October (3 days later) so I don't reach the magic 8 week milestone until Sunday now.

Moodywren, I saw a different midwife every time in my last pregnancy. Although I was supposed to have the same person, she was never there so I had a string of strangers prodding my belly. It didn't really matter as in my area the community midwives that do the antenatal appointments are completely separate from the hospital midwives that help you give birth, so it was always going to be a stranger for the actual birth.

I pushed for about an hour and a half last time. In the end it turned out that my bladder was really full, and the poor baby couldn't get past it. Once they emptied my bladder, he just popped out!

bethoo · 13/03/2008 07:57

hansnava = i have an angelsounds doppler and think it is greatb though naturally not as good as the one the mw use though i do not think you can buy them

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/03/2008 08:19

Jambers - the community midwives have to spend one day a month in the hospital delivery suite (to keep them up to date), so there is always a chance that you could have had one of them. I had one for mine, though not my own one.

My file is green not blue .

sambrads · 13/03/2008 08:51

good morning ladies

bthoo i am feeling sick all the time i think the dry retching is worse than being sick .

i was so bad yesterday i never left the house as i was sick nearly every half hour.

can anyone eat in the mornigs???
i cant as i am so sick yesterday i could hardly breath and this bright yellow bile was flying out it was awful
sorry if i told too much

i am going to see the midwife today so i will let you al know how i get on .

i am having a dinner party tomorrow night so i will be cooking/baking all day hopefully i wont be as sick

sambrads · 13/03/2008 08:52

also i thought i would tell you i went into the topic list and went to recipes for a wee look and someone has posted the recipe for malteaser buns !!!!!!!

oh my god they sound delicious so i will be making them today

Lozza70 · 13/03/2008 08:56

Sambrads really sorry you are suffering on the sickness front, I'm one of those people who can eat in the morning, and afternoon and evening!! Unfortunately my appetite knows no bounds at the moment and my little bump mainly consists of my current passion for cheese

Hope your prep for your dinner party goes okay.

accessorizequeen · 13/03/2008 11:20

Nausea sounds horrible for those who are suffering. V.lucky to have hardly suffered and my appetite is enormous.
I have no appts yet, the hospital makes them for me. I'm assuming a scan b4 14 weeks (I'm 10) though, no nuchal here.
I had emergency c/s first time, so 2nd time was first proper pushing OMG! So if it comes out in the toilet after 5 pushes that would be fab . I wouldn't have an epi because of concerns I would end up with cs again (and presumably not this time either sigh). Homebirth sounds v.lovely, not something I'm allowed to do as I need constant monitoring.

Oh, myjobismum Everything crossed for you! Did they give you any explanantion why you might have been bleeding? It's a really good sign though that everything is looking okay inside.

I have my scan a week from today and I'm so anxious! I just want to know everything's okay. I dont' know how I'm going to make it through the week. Anyone know of any shops that have a doppler on display that i can just pop in and use?

It must've been awful! But some women bleed throughout their entire pregnancies and everything is fine. I would think you're at a stage where the little guy (or girl!) is well established so the chances of anything going wrong are slim. And you got to see the little one an extra time! Must've been so amazing to see him/her dancing around in there.

I keep telling myself that the overwhelming odds are that everything will be okay! I think I focus too much on the 3% chance instead of the 97%!!!!

daisyj · 13/03/2008 13:51

Oh, myjob, you must have been petrified. I think PrePG is right, and we do focus too much on the slim chance, by this stage (10+3 for me too), that anything will go wrong, but when something like that happens of course you assume the worst. I must be feeling hormotional (as my friend calls it) today, as it made me quite tearful when I read that your DS was waving hello . So glad all is OK, anyway.

I have my first midwife appt tomorrow a.m., so hopefully I'll get my blue/green folder too! And maybe find out when I'll have my scan - feels like I've been waiting for ever...

Having a v. stressful day at work today. Hoping the afternoon will be better and everyone will leave me (I just typed 'us' then, me and the bean, presumably) alone.

SARAHandTINY · 13/03/2008 14:48

Hi Ladies, sorry i've not updated you since last week when I started bleeding. I've had a rough time in the past week.
My GP referred me to EPAU for scan, where they told me that they could see nothing at all in my uterus, ot even a sac, so I assumed i'd miscarried. They took my blood for HCG levels & sent me home. The following morning I had horrendous period cramps & rang the hosp who said my HCG was at 6000 and told me to come straight down because I would need an operation to find out where the baby was.
So last Wed I had a laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) and the found the TINY bean in my right fallopian tube right next to my uterus (one cm further it would have made it)
So they removed the tube with my little nearly 8-week bean . Am now at home recuperating- eating lots of chocolate and having lots of duvet days.
So gutted. It took us so long to get to this stage. I'm sorry to be leaving you all & wish you well in all your PGs. I really hope to join you again soon as we're going to the fertility clinic once I've fully recovered.
So sorry for Spink too, I know how u feel. Look after yourself & surround yourself with friends & family who can take care of you. Mine are wonderful I love them so much.
(can someone take me off the 17th Oct slot?)

SmudgeyDoodle · 13/03/2008 14:53

Myjobismum, glad things were ok but like you say, that sounds very scary. Did they tell you to get lots of rest? I think you should and that DH should provide cups of tea/juice/whatever and chocolate digestives wherever you happen to be.
Daisyj hope everyone is leaving you alone. Does that include us???
Prepg I have no idea about dopplers but I like your thinking of try before you buy!!
Sambrads very impressed with your doing a dinner party and the malteser buns sound yum. I won't be looking up the recipe yet as I can't be bothered to go out again to buy maltesers and I'm sure I'll be tempted. I had to phone DH last night and tell him to get something for tea becuase I couldn't face cooking nor the smell of cooking so wasn't any good him doing it either. Not feeling as bad today so can't use that excuse!
