myjobismum - my scan is at 8:30 (7:30am) english time)

BCLass - I remember when I was pregnant with dd1 I was working in a stressful hospital job, and I was so sick my colleagues immediately knew I was pregnant. Most of them were very sympathetic, and my direct boss very understanding.

I had a lot of time off sick. The sickness only really abated when I went on (compulsary) maternity leave at 26 weeks.

I hope you start to feel better soon! Have you tried the anti sickness wristbands? They apparently put pressure on an acupunture point on your wrists, which can help with the sickness.

PrePG · 12/03/2008 10:56

Very sorry to hear your news Sping Take care of yourself.

sambrads 8 days until my scan as well! Trying to be positive about it - I'm praying everything has happened as it should.

We went to New York for a long weekend and told my family about the baby. Everyone is so excited. On the plane back, DH said that telling everyone has made it much more real for him (I'm 10w 4d) and it's finally dawning on him that he's going to be a daddy and that we'll be a family - the three of us! And funny development - my younger brother and SIL are expecting as well - she's due just three weeks after me! We joked that we're having 'twins'

Jane7 · 12/03/2008 12:09

Hello everyone, I haven't posted for ages, but don't worry I've been happily lurking and reading all about each of you.
Sorry to hear your news Spink - thinking of you and Julez so much. It's funny how you can feel emotionally involved with people you've never met.
I'm 10 weeks 5 days today - got to wait until 31st March for my scan, when I'll actually be over 13 weeks, but I hope that's ok. The hospital seems to be very overbooked and that was the earliest they could make it.
Problem is I can't wait that long to tell people, so I've slowly been telling family members and a few friends.
BClass - feel for you so much. I've been feeling truly sick the last few weeks. It;s almost like a non-life, just a question of getting through the day. I feel worse at night weirdly, just before I go to bed. I threw up last night and a wonderfuly healthy lentil stew supper - BClass thought you'd approve

loulou33 · 12/03/2008 13:06

Hi all,

BClass - sounds crap - don't have any advice but i think that website blooming awful is supposed to be good.

csws - my ds was 2 in jan but my star chart is REALLY Simple ie no days of the week, just loads of pictures and outlines of stars for him to put star stickers into. He's also got little lucky dip bag as well with very inexpensive toys, pencils etc in. when gets star in morning, also gets treat. This morning, first thing he said was 'star and treat' - bless. he's far too young for traditional star charts with days of week and waiting for several days for a reward - i wouldn't use them until a lot older but this simpler version seems to work - fingers crossed.

i think the chart sounds great loulou !!

i got my ds one from next but i wont be able to use it for a while .

SmudgeyDoodle · 12/03/2008 13:53

Spink, so sorry to hear your news.
Welcome to new people. How come everyone else seems further on and more organised than me. Eventually got round to ringing dr today to make first appointment and the next available appointment is next Mon. I thought I was being good waiting til I was 8 weeks but then I'll be nearly 9 and I'm an impatient person! I know I could face the daily battle of phoning from 8 to get a same day appointment but DS wants the phone if he sees it and I can't be doing with the battle whilst trying not to heave.
Rant over, i'm off for a lie down.

daisyj · 12/03/2008 14:10

Spink, so sorry. Hope you'll be coming to visit us soon when you're PG again.

BCLass, I have a big mouth and told my boss and closest colleague at 7+2. I wasn't sick like you, but I felt as if the psychological pressure was making me act a bit strangely! I can't tell you how much easier it made things in terms of my mental wellbeing, as they were so lovely and supportive.

Of course you have to do what you feel comfortable with, but I do think it's worth telling your boss (if you haven't already, since you posted yesterday). The whole 'not telling' thing can get a bit much. You're almost made to feel it's the law or something, and I think that can often add to the stress. Good luck

sambrads · 12/03/2008 14:50

who ever came up with the rule no telling til 12 weeks????

its so strange because really your not promised a baby until your sitting holding it in your arms .

i ahve had a few friends that have lost babies at 35 weeks and it was so hard to watch .

someone told me on this thread that you should celebrate and tell people your pregnant as its a happy time and enjoy it.

your only going to tell people that play a good part in your life so you would want these people round you if anything went wrong

bethoo · 12/03/2008 15:03

Spink - sorry aboutthe news and take care.

did not realise booking in took over an hour and a half! had my bloods done for STDs and sickle cell and another (new thing apparantly). because i had gestational diabetes i have to book in for a diabetes test at 16 weeks then again at 26 weeks i think. should have letter through for scan sometime soon. amazing how things change considering i was only doing this 2 years ago. they do not do nuchal checking at scan so have to go to kings london or winchester and pay about 140 pounds so not bothering, just have bloods done for that at 16 weeks. all i can do now is wait for scan to see if all is ok....

Shazza2002 · 12/03/2008 15:08

Sorry to gatecrash ladies. Just looking for 07mumstheword Was an old cycle buddy on another thread. Just wanted to see if all was ok?

PrePG · 12/03/2008 15:22

Sambrads - Like you I think it's up to the individual to tell who they want when they want - and I guess the 12 week rule came about because the chances of miscarrying drop at that point. We've kind of gone by the if you'd feel comfortable telling these people you've lost a baby, then tell them about the pregnancy whenever you'd like. We told my parents when we were about 5 weeks. We told the rest of my family (brother & SIL, grandmother, aunts & uncles all of whom we're close to) this weekend at 10 weeks as it was the first opportunity we had to tell them in person. They're the people who would be my support system if anything went wrong. We're waiting to tell DH's parents (we've already told his brother and SIL) and all of our friends until after our scan next week.

sambrads · 12/03/2008 15:32

did she use a doppler or anything ????

caramelbunny · 12/03/2008 16:02

Sorry to hear your sad news spink, thinking of you.

tedmundo · 12/03/2008 16:11

spink - gutted to hear your sad news. Look after yourself.

Had my booking in yesterday (bloods, lots of questions etc) so it is all starting to feel very real. Have my dating scan a week today.

Midwife reckons I am 10 weeks and due 8th Oct but I tested for lh surge and know I ovulated late in the cycle. Sadly, their dimwit system does not seem to be able to grasp that not everyone has a 28 day cycle. Anyway, the dating scan next week should prove that I am right and they are wrong - haha!

Feeling better today as phoned MIL on Monday to beg for help (had to tell them of course but well worth it). MIL out at library with ds right now and I am on MN. She's staying for a week. Result!

Ekka · 12/03/2008 16:12

So sorry to hear your news spink. Wishing you and your family all the best.

Just had my booking in appt this afternoon - much trickier than the 1st pg, as I had to juggle dd, who decided to be full of energy! I'm only 7 weeks, and according to my mw they do the first scan at nearer to 14 weeks here (Hampshire) which includes the nuchal check, so ages to go yet. So jealous of all you ladies that have scans soon - wishing you all loads of luck. On the plus side, I'm just feeling exhausted, not sick, so am making the most of it at the moment - think I'll be huge way before this baby gets to any size at all

bethoo · 12/03/2008 17:37

sambrads - no she did not use doppler, i think they only do it at next check up which is at 16 weeks. i am ok wit it as i have not found hb with my doppler and so figure that is is still to soon, i can hear the placenta and hope the baby is still alive, (feeling of deja vu of mm/c!!) i was surprised though as i would have thought she would have felt my fundus at least or taken by blood pressure but i guess that is all to come, think my bp is low at mo as i keep feeling light headed!!

What a lot of booking in appointments this week!

V tired again today. Dd decided not to nap this afternoon, but I had a lie down anyway whilst she watched CBeebies .

Will be having another early night methinks.

Ekka · 12/03/2008 20:25

myjobismum - do you have a number for the midwives? In my area we only deal with the midwives, no GPs at all, but the surgery still organises things and we have to call the main reception to book our mw appointments. Its hard to know what to do when you change areas and all the basics seem different!

bethoo · 12/03/2008 20:31

myjobismum - did you actually book in
? got all paperwork up and running? if i was you i would call up the med centre and explain what you did to us as i beleive the midwives do go through the surgery as Ekka says and just ask to confirm when you are seeing her next. my next appointment is at 16 weeks if scan goes well.
