Thanks for pelvic floor reminder - can someone remind me every day!?

EllieG · 20/02/2008 16:39

I always forget to do them. Am going to have a big ol' stretchy leaky fanny afterwards.

Can always get a nip and tuck I suppose.

Aqua natal tonight! Is great as only place where I don't feel all lumbering and I can kid myself I look graceful floating through the water. In actual fact I proabaly look like a walrus, but it FEELS graceful.

sagitta · 20/02/2008 16:42

LOL Ellie!

VictorianSqualor · 20/02/2008 16:45

BLW is awesome. Aitch from MN has a blog on it, she's also around pretty much all the time to advise if needed.

Basically if you can make it to 6 months without feeding, some people do wean earlier and there is no concrete evidence that weaning after 17 weeks is an issue, it's just rec'd now to leave it til 6months if possible (but not before 17 weeks) baby won't need to start on purees, because by 6 months it is physically capable of eating finger foods, it can suck, kind of chew and swallow so things like carrot sticks or toast or potatoes or pasta etc can all be eaten by baby on it's own with it's hands.

Much easier and apparently helps combat more fussy eaters and allergies.

Only thing you have to be careful about is salt and honey, so you can pretty much feed baby on what the rest of the family is having most nights as long as you put salt in after cooking.

sagitta · 20/02/2008 16:46

That sounds nice and easy...

EllieG · 20/02/2008 16:47

I really like that idea! Will read up asap

VictorianSqualor · 20/02/2008 16:50

It's really the same as what you'd do if you weaned onto purees at 4 months like the old way, by six months you would have introduced finger foods etc anyway so all it does it cuts out the messy puree stage.

I kind of did it with DS but hadnt read any info on it then and was a bit worried about not feeding him properly if I didn;t give him the dodgy stewed apples or mashed sweet potato etc but this time I'm going to do it the whole shebang.

My blender is staying for smoothies only

ToastAddict · 20/02/2008 17:13

Just popping in to catch up and say hi

Knitter - {{{{{{hugs}}}}}, that really is crappy. Fingers crossed you get a new buyer soon

Mollyfloss - thanks for the PF reminder - I am so bad at remembering. My midwife advised me to do them every time I went for a wee, as it would be easy to remember, but that seems so often now I always think "oh next time"

Can't believe you are all talking about weaning already!! And the other day you were planning on when to have your next babies! Really can't quite believe this one will be coming along in a couple of months..... got our moses basket today (lent to us by a friend) and it's sooo cute, with ickle blankets and everything

I will definitely have PFB syndrome, as well as "ultra paranoid new mum syndrome".......

I'll try to remember to remind everyone about the pelvic floor exercises although i'm crap at remembering them myself. Still, sitting dow at the computer is one of the best places...

BLW sounds great. I have a friend who is about to try it. As they get so used to using their hands, do you think it's difficult to get them to use a knife and fork properly later on? I can't stand sloppy table manners

VictorianSqualor · 20/02/2008 17:16

No problme with knives and forks here molly, my two have wicked table manners, DS is a star, 3yrs old and wont talk with a full mouth or eat with his mouth open

They wouldnt learn cutlery with purees anyway.

Mollyfloss · 20/02/2008 17:41

I'm well impressed by your three year old. I know a lot of adults he would be a good example to!

PortAndLemon · 20/02/2008 17:44

Will be doing BLW for sure this time.

VS is right, they aren't going to learn to use cutlery through your spooning purees into them anyway.

VictorianSqualor · 20/02/2008 19:04

I now Molly, DP is one of them!

bunyanvillas · 20/02/2008 20:14

Hmmm .. have been wondering about bypassing the ol moses basket and going straight to a cot this time round - anyone else doing this?

Sal22 · 20/02/2008 20:40

Hi all.

Knitter, good luck with everything.

Ooh, i'm really worried about the fact that everyone seems to be destined to be the perfect first-time-moms... This is my first, I'd love him to death, but I already think I'll just be RUBBISH and not do anything I'm supposed to! DH force feeds me my vitamins every morning before I'm quite awake enough to complain that the fish oil makes me feel funny, I can't get through the day without at least one "proper" coffee at work to start my day with (DH will cover the PFB syndome for both of us though - he threw out all caffeine things as soon as we found out I'm pregnant and now I'm only allowed Rooibos & decaf!!! ), and this finger food thing sounds like the best plan ever to me!!! Oh, and I had to physically threaten DH with unmentionable things if he didn't change the radio station in the car from Classic FM to ANYTHING else immediately - bloody hell, too much of a good thing and all that...

Oh man, I'm worried. Poor baby, to have such bad luck ending up with this mom.

Peachy · 20/02/2008 20:41

We have the opposite issue with knives and forks- ds3 won't ever sit at the table without a specific set laid out correctly LOL! We have to take theme verywhere or he won't eat (unlike ds2 who is s fiend and tries to geta way with fingers but never does)

Just had a gander at my notes- baby not just low down, tis aprtially engaged These niggly contractions I have been having for a few days but been determined to ignore achieving something then.

Mollyfloss · 20/02/2008 22:30

Sal: I'm sure you'll be a great Mum!

Peachy:does this all mean you might go into labour pretty soon?

Peachy · 20/02/2008 22:47

Yes, apparently! Esp. as is my 4th (1st babies tend to engage early, but subsequent ones not until pre-labour starts...)

however with ds3 I had a show 4 weeks before the delivery , so i won't count myc hickens... probably still be waiting 2 weeks post date......

EllieG · 21/02/2008 08:58

I read about a woman having her 4th who gave birth in 10 mins! In the paint isle at B&Q in fact.
Stay away from home improvement shops peachy and then you'll be safe.

Sal - you'll be fine. I am panicing hugely but trying not to think about it.
Just a note though - don't think you should be taking fish oils as I heard too much vitamin A in them? Same reason why shouldn't eat pate etc. But don't panic I could be wrong.

EllieG · 21/02/2008 08:59

Oh and I was telling DP about baby led weaning last night and he said he thought babies slept better when fed solids earlier - is he right?

scorpio1 · 21/02/2008 09:12

no Ellie he isn't - they eat such a tiny amount anyway. when i started weaning Jamie i started with purees but quickly i learnt it was easier for me and he loved it much more getting his hands stuck in. its so cute the way they sort of suck/chew toast! i will be doing a mixture i think...not going to really think about it too much - ie will feed her porridge but let her do toast, spaghetti, veg etc.

Supposed to be @ uni today but tutor never got back to me - am working from home today; off to towns library soon to try and get some observational play grids. fun fun fun.

OOh ellie - i have a question in student parents - entitled Assigment help - already late!! could you look please?

EllieG · 21/02/2008 09:39

Will do.

I love it when DP is wrong hee hee

have looked up blw and defo will try - looks much easier for the lazy mummy as no pureeing and ice cube trays etc involved.

scorpio1 · 21/02/2008 09:40

and you can still take out her food with you in little tupperware containers for when you are out and about - sarnies, fruit cubes, grated cheese, etc.

EllieG · 21/02/2008 09:46

Will check with adult team upstairs scorpio - it's been ages since have thought about adult care and community care act etc. We have different laws over here so have had to forget most of it too and learn ours!
Will get back to you later if find any startling insights.

scorpio1 · 21/02/2008 09:49

just confused about that stakeholders term, thats all now really

Thankyou!

am feeling quite positive today about getting these assignments done becasue then its no more pressure. Also had a chat with DH last night becuase he was being funny for the last few days - turns out he has work problems and didnt want to stress me, but he has shared them and now we are helping each other out.
