Can't believe the last thread got filled up so fast Really looking forward to mat leave (4 weeks, yay!!) so I can get on to MN more

Anyway, I was another lucky winner in the breast pump comp - thanks for the tip off.

But, not meaning to sound ungrateful or anything, would it really have hurth MAM to put the pump in, say, a plain brown box? Rather than the box shouting "BREAST PUMP" and "BREAST PADS" and "NIPPLE SHIELD"!!!!

My postie clearly recognised the embarassment factor - as we were out when he came round, he left it by the back door, rather than the front for all to see! Just hope he knows what it all was. Otherwise he must be wondering what kind of sexy antics I get up to that require my nipples to be shielded

Thanks for starting new one toast, do you think we will actually start popping some Lo's out by the end of this thread or will we talk too much again?

KnitterInTheNW · 14/02/2008 20:22

Haha TA, I hadn't noticed the writing on the side of the breast pump box before, now I know why the postman was smirking at me when I opened the door this morning!

i had my growth scan yesterday, and junior's head circumference and thigh bone length are pretty much spot on, while his abdominal circumference is about a week ahead. He's going to take after his mummy with a big tummy! Got next growth scan in 2 weeks. I had to go to the diabetic antenatal clinic after and asked the registrar to talk me through the whole induction thing, as it's getting closer now and I was getting a bit antsy with not knowing what's going to happen. Well... I'm not sure I should've asked, cos she made it all sound very clinical and also it's going to be happening in 6 WEEKS!!!! Help!

Sal22 · 14/02/2008 20:29

Hi everyone - cool thread title.

Just wanted to say thanks for the breast pump tip - I got one too Or rather, got the e-mail and now the "post office card" - glad the postie didn't decide to leave it outside this time after hearing the details toasaddict, haha. Will ask DH to pick it up from the sorting office on saturday.

I wish my maternity leave would now start, getting a bit tired (think i'm just a whimp, i don't have any other kids to look after yet and DH is wonderful around the house). But I've agreed to work till end March unless I actually get ill beforehand, so that means I'll only have 2 days at home before I have to go in for my CS - strange thought. At least it means I can earn something for old time's sake (I'm self-employed and will stop working for a while once baby's here - or that's the plan for the moment anyway).

Sal22 · 14/02/2008 20:34

Hmm, just reread my post and realised i can't really call it "maternity leave" if i stop working, can i? I think i'm in denial about the fact that I will stop work for a while - a little afraid I think, I've never been a mom, never mind a stay-at-home-mum...

Peachy · 14/02/2008 20:34

Knitter, ds1 was induced early. It wasn't half as bad as I had been led to believe, actually i don't think it was any worse than any other labour I have had.

I was told by the MW that it would take 4 days as I wasn't at all favourable to induction, and that I'd probably need a drip. I ahd my fist pessary at 4 ish IIRC, another at 9 ish and I went into labour overnight, what i'd call a normal build up- lots of pacing corridors, gradual increase in contractions etc. I called DH in the next morning (he turned up on the abck of a breakdown truck LOL ) and at midday they transferred me to labour ward as that was 'established'- delivered at 4.30 pm.

KnitterInTheNW · 14/02/2008 20:40

Thankyou Peachy, that's exactly the sort of story I need to hear!

VictorianSqualor · 14/02/2008 22:16

I had to laugh at the box meself, postie is always delivering odd bits and pieces DP has got off ebay.
Oh actually, my birthing ball should be coming soon, just won that off ebay

Sheds75 · 15/02/2008 08:23

on the subject of Birthing balls, I've got one off my SIL just not sure what I'm supposed to do with it any pointers....

scorpio1 · 15/02/2008 08:44

just saying hi new thread!

Annieroo · 15/02/2008 08:56

Good morning all.

I just bought a ball from Asda at the grand expense of £4 including pump!

I've got two weeks left in work! yay!

Sheds75 · 15/02/2008 08:59

Annieroo, I too only have 2 weeks left at work..... can't wait

TLSM · 15/02/2008 09:09

Morning All sogh Knitters you will have your bundle before I even go on Mat leave Glad your little one is growing ok I was induced with Max at 38 weeks they put the pessary in at about 8 in the evening and it was left all night was examined at 9 the next morning and was 2cm dilated so was transfered to the labout ward where they broke my waters (I will be honest that is what hurt me most - But hold your DH hand and breath trough it its over in 30 seconds) I was then sent out for a walk two hours later they put me on a drip to speed up the contractions ( a good tip my sister gave me ask for the eperdural to be done first) then i sat and laughed and chatted to my Mum and DH for a few hours at 6.30 they came to check on me the Ep was just starting to wear off a little so I could feel the contractions so I used the Gas and air which I though was brilliant! the midwife check and said I was 10cm dilated and when I felt ready I could push! Max was born at 7.00! I am not going to pretend that it didnt hurt because it did but what ever why they come out its going to hurt! I am requesting another induction this time if I dont need a CS

Annieroo · 15/02/2008 09:09

Sheds, it's great isn't it.

I've actually only got 7 days - three next week and four the week after due to antenatal & mw appts.

Are you taking a full year off?

i've just been sitting on my ball watching tv most of the time, or using it as a foot rest!

Though last night in ante natal class they gave us a list of positions to try for during early stage of labour which are quite helpful.

TLSM · 15/02/2008 09:12

One thing my mum always told me was "Remember its ONE day of your life and at the end of it you are given the best price of all your child"

Denny185 · 15/02/2008 09:15

Boo Ive still got 3 to go, but more paperwork than patients.

I have ball at home which used in early labour with DS, was really helpful to sit on and do little bounces and to be able to move pelvis freely forward and bac and side to side. Supposed to be able to go on your knees and lean chest on the ball to help baby turn if back to back, didnt get on v well with this as it kind of squashed my boobs which were already sore. If you dont use it for labour you can always do your pilates exercises with it after to tone back up

Had lovely meal last night - lamb shanks, brie and potatoe bake (well cooked) and veg, followed by lemon roulade, hmmmm thankyou tesco finest.

Sheds75 · 15/02/2008 09:16

TLSM - thats what my mum says to me, which is quite right, but still doesn't stop me worrying

Annieroo, I'm not quite takeing a year, it works out at about 10 months, I don't go back until Jan 09 (sounds soooooo cool)

Denny185 · 15/02/2008 09:19

6 weeks Knitter, seems so close now, and a couple of good induction stories for you.

Peachy · 15/02/2008 09:24

What? Onre day? Damn, i've scheduled half an hour between school pick ups

But then tis my fourth.....

TLSM · 15/02/2008 09:30

Peachy you may laugh but thats literately what my mum did on her fourth she had to hold his head between her legs in her tights whilst standing outside my Nans house!

scorpio1 · 15/02/2008 09:33

same here peachy, i have allowed an hour at 2am on 6th april.

Kids go back to school on the 7th

Sheds75 · 15/02/2008 09:37

sounds manic maybe I will stick to just the one!

Peachy · 15/02/2008 09:38

Ours is due in the middle of our Easter holidays ina ctuality- Dh suggesting an OD of raspberry leaf / pineapple etc a week before so it fits in better . Mum's last abby was born in the waiting room at the hospital, but Dh is almost an hour away if at work and Doula is about half an hour away but has to get kids to childcare etc at some times.

I am certain ds1 will deliver baby though, he was watching homebirth vids on youtube the other day.

I suppose it COULD come to that! Watch out for 'Welsh baby deliverd by 8 year old disabled child' new stories around then PMSL

TLSM · 15/02/2008 09:39

Lol Bless him!

EllieG · 15/02/2008 09:40

I heard of a lady who gave birth in 10 mins when was her 4th. She was in the paint isle at B&Q.

Ethical/parenting dilemma now....

DP took DSD to school this morning and she had forgotten it was non uniform day and she was in uniform and got upset. He didn't have time to go home. I told the girls in the office and one said oh you'll have to go home and get her some clothes and I said why? It'll teach her a valuable lesson about remembering things and won't kill her. Am I really harsh? I think I am. But I really don't have time to go home I'm at work and busy! Am now worrying more about being harsh uncaring parent than DSD (who am sure will be fine tbh after inital embarrassment). I think I might be a Mean Mummy
