Welcome to the second trimester

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TwilightSurfer · 19/02/2008 21:53

Okay I've just watched an episode of BBC's You Are What You Eat.... What was I thinking!!!? I was already feeling guilty about what I've allowed my family to eat over the past 10+ weeks, NOW I FEEL WORSE!

Ladies I promise to be in a better place tomorrow. There's no where to go from here but UP.

Dizzy college work actually sounds like fun at the moment. Yesterday I found myself doing loads of odd jobs at DD's preschool. Seems anything to get my mind off myself and this pregnancy is good. At the moment I still feel completely absorbed in everything my body is doing. I'm sure that's just the mental after effects of my previous miscarriage. PLUS it's winter and there's not a whole lot of fun going on.

Captain my DD's been eyeballing my belly with that "YOU LOOK FAT" expression in her eyes then she looks up at me and says, "that's where the baby is, right?" DH just laughs. I'm already planning my post-delivery workout schedule!

poppysocks · 19/02/2008 22:01

Petitfilou - Some how managed to miss your post earlier on (must have been all that furtive checking of posts at work). Congatulations!

dizzydixies · 19/02/2008 22:03

TS that gillian woman is a witch who should be ignored at all costs - miserable cow

reason college work is being avoided is because when I start doing it, I inevitably find myself drifting towards the hoover/shops/dishes/bed linens etc when am meant to be sitting on lardy arse until scan next wed - well thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it

ElizabethCM · 20/02/2008 00:27

Thankyou for all the kind support. Petitfilou so glad your scan went well! They can be so nerve racking!

TS you just ignore that gillian mckeith! I'd like to know whether ANYONE eats quinoa with roasted courgette, followed by gogi berries. let alone exhausted, nasuoes, expectant mothers to be.

TwilightSurfer · 20/02/2008 01:16

Too funny...Gillian was a bit over the top. I truly should have been a nutritionist (maybe in my next career life) so I'm very keen on the good and bad. Doctor Oz in my FAVORITE healthy eating habits guru. It's just a trip watching UK produced (or Canadian for that matter) television because the folks never HOLD BACK. Sometimes that's good...like that Clean Your House show where those ladies have to clean up after some REALLY NASTY humans. Gets me looking at baseboards everytime.

Have just settled in after dinner of steak, potato and salad (TAKE OUT of course). DH split what is normally a really huge meal from our favorite steak house. I don't feel so bad when we do that because it's actually less than if I bought it all and did it up myself. (Now if we order 2 seperate meals....that's a different story.)

Here's yet another question for the thread: Does anyone's belly hurt? Not the tightening thing like I asked about earlier on but like growing pains or stretching pains that are not localized to any one particular area. I've even had moments over the past couple of days where I felt like things were getting heavy on my bladder. It's probably nothing but I don't recall feeling this uncomfortable this early...I'm only 14+4 today. I've even moved to the sofa at night because it's the only place I can get comfortable for hours at a time. Is this just an old age thing[hmmm]??

Best wishes to everyone for a wonderful Wednesday!!!

Buckets · 20/02/2008 09:21

Oooh take out steak, why don't we have that? Can't complain actually I've had Indian plus fish and chips in the last week and can't think how we're going to avoid eating out this lunchtime TBH.
We're going to some half term bug activity thing at the wildlife centre on the common - I always forget there's this flippin huge great parkland smack in the middle of Southampton, must go there more often. Kids are v excited about catching a bus, I'm not because it probably won't be a pushchair-friendly one.
Yoowwwzer, baby just punished me for my bent-over foetus-squishing posture just then, a big crampy feeling that went right to my hips, had to undo my jeans! And my bump is so noticeable but I can still lie on my front so it must be at least 50% fat.

alittlebitshy · 20/02/2008 09:22

i'm having odd pains too twilight. Sometimes it feels like there is something in the way of my bladder, sometimes it's stitchy feeling, somtimes it's something else.
trying to tell self is normal.

Currently eating bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes. Still feeling v sick but am managing it better hrough eating more often. hence the second breakfast.

LadyOfWaffle · 20/02/2008 09:50

Hello all Been without then internet for what felt like ages, think it was 2 days lol. I have been having the worst headaches the past week or so, not sure how far along you have to be to worry abut them. I don't ever really get headaches - these are really full on, making me feel sick etc. Hope you are all well, this thread moves so fast it's hard to keep up. I read the other day someone (Twilight?) was having tightenings - I have been getting them aswell, no idea because it's no.2 you feel them early or what, but it really scared me at first! x

PetitFilou1 · 20/02/2008 09:51

TS I reckon it is just old age (tries to rack brains as to how old you are but fails!) My back has gone overnight this time and I'm only 13 weeks. Am desperately trying to persuade dh to be available on Weds evenings for the next five weeks so I can go on a pregnancy pilates course - I need to do something about it now before I get big!

Pinchypants · 20/02/2008 09:54

Morning ladies. I started the day rather auspiciously on the 'healthy eating while pg' front with a dark chocolate Bounty. This was after a massive bowl of crunchy nut cornflaked. And I am now eyeing up the leftover pasta salad I'm meant to be having for lunch. Perhaps if I squeeze it in as elevenses I can pop into BK on the way to pick DD up from nursery... Sod Gillian and her quinoa/keenwah nonsense.

Lemon fanta sounds amazing as well - would be better in ice-cold glass bottle next to pool in sunny warm place with good book and enormous bed to myself and waiter service, of course. Well, a girl can dream.

I am definitely well into that 'is she fat or pg' phase now, and only 14 weeks tomorrow. Thank the Lord for elasticated waists. Happily, think the sickness is on its way out - still a little nauseous in the late afternoon but much more my old self and I appear to have regained a sense of humour as well. DH queried whether we really needed/could afford a 3D scan for this one, while acknowledging that we should prob do the same for one as for the other, so I suggested we could just colour in the 20 week scan pictures instead... Naturally I will just book the 3D scan anyway, but I have no energy to argue!

Big hugs to those of you feeling rubbish or in a bad mood or worried about anything. Hope Wednesday is good for you all.

Pinchy xx

ps have you all seen that thread on the childbirth board about what your grandmothers didn't know before they gave birth - it's a shocker!

TwilightSurfer · 20/02/2008 11:21

Morning. Nice to not be alone with odd complaints. Petitfilou I'll be 37 on Saturday so truly believe most of my problems are just old age related. That said I'd like to join Pinchypants by the pool with the lemon fanta.

longwayfromhome · 20/02/2008 11:48

Good morning everyone. I've not posted for a while, but anyway here's a bit of an update although there is not much news from here. I have an appointment tomorrow and hope that I might be able to hear the heartbeat - I'll be about 15 weeks, so I don't think that this is too early?

I had a rotten weekend, feeling shattered and so thought that I could be anaemic. I went and bought some steak but the blood tests show no anaemia and the steak was quite tough after I had cooked it. Any advice (about how to cook steak that is!)? Fortunately DH will eat anything but I was a bit disappointed.

dizzydixies · 20/02/2008 12:02

Morning everyone,

pinchy I'm with you on the healthy eating today - went to tescos after dropping kids at nursery and had a mini fry up and have just polished off TWO packets of walkers ready salted that grannies birth scares the bejesus out of me too!

longwayfromhome neither the dr nor the midwife could find my heartbeat at 15+4 wks so don't panic if they can't - sometimes baby plays hide and seek. cook steak on a griddle ontop of the hob with butter/keep putting the butter over the steak as you cook it and then let it sit for a few minutes before you eat it - watched gordon ramsay cook them lol

ladyofwaffle am sorry to hear you're having headaches, make sure with your dr or mw, I got pg migranes with dd1 but never before or again after - loads of water and rest - do you wear glasses or as in my case meant to wear them?

dh back at work on lateshift today so lordy help me with battle of dinner/bath & bed. its swimming this afternoon so hopefully they'll at least be tired!

LadyOfWaffle · 20/02/2008 12:08

I don't wear glasses, well I had a pair about 3 or 4 years ago but I never used them. I have tried to keep TV/PC (ha!) time to a minimum, thinking it was eye strain but I don't think it is - I got it really bad when we had a day out at the coast. TV/PC does make it worse when I have one, but doesn't seem to bring them on. I keep drinking tons of water aswell, I think it must just be hormones. I don't think you need to worry until about 24 weeks + for headaches (ish). I am so so bored today, totally not motorvated to do anything even though the living room is crying out to be hoovered! I am waiting for the second trimester energy boost to kick in

longwayfromhome · 20/02/2008 12:09

Thanks for the advice re: steak and heartbeats. Will keep you updated!

Buckets · 20/02/2008 14:41

Longwayfromhome, marinate the steak in alcohol first to soften it up. I have a bottle of Jack Daniels for meat-tenderising purposes (nobody really drinks it for fundo they?) And a good whack with a meat hammer first if you have one - if it's thinner it will cook quicker so don't take your eyes off it.

libbyssister · 20/02/2008 15:12

Hi Lady of W. Sorry you've been having headaches. I've just emerged from a 3-day migraine which started on Sunday, flashing lights, 'holes' in my vision, clanging headache, the works. It's horrible, isn't it. I was so hacked off because I had so much else I wanted to do and I couldn't take any decent painkillers!! I haven't had a migraine for years, in fact, since I was on the pill, so it must be hormone related.

Anyone got a link for the grandma birth stories? I can't find it!

Shazza2002 · 20/02/2008 15:16

Hi ladies.

Haven't been around for a while, I have been checking in on you all just haven't had much to say!!

But in typical MN style I'm back for a bit of support.

Sorry if TMI, but just now had to really strain to have a poo, when I wiped had a bit of blood from down there. Definitely not from my backside. Is this normal?. I'm thinking it was probably caused by the straining.

Just want some reassurance from you lovely ladies xx

PetitFilou1 · 20/02/2008 15:20

Shazza It is much more likely it was blood from piles - are you sure it didn't come from that direction (would be bright red and painless bleeding)

libbyssister · 20/02/2008 15:22

Are you absolutely sure it wasn't your bottom, Shazza? Because I've been having a bit of spotting after LONG-awaited poos...

dizzydixies · 20/02/2008 15:23

Hi shazza
how is your mum doing?

would be careful if you're straining - might be the dreaded piles - lots of water/fresh orange and if straining continues buy a big bottle of lactolose
x

LadyOfWaffle · 20/02/2008 15:24

Was going to say the same thing - after the birth of DS I think I had one or some, and one of my first poops it must have done something because I had blood. Just be careful not to strain.

ChaCha · 20/02/2008 15:25

I've missed loads haven't i???
Petitfilous - Congrats...for what? What did i miss? Want to hear some good news pls.

Have only managed a skim through this current page - is everyone okay?

My DH is away and am enjoying a bit of a break. Feeling extremely fat and frumpy this PG, hungry and tired a lot. Finally found decent, comfy pair of mat trousers in Next catalogue..linen mix ones - they are super comfy. Bought some in DP and they were too long and big yet although tops were on sale and very nice.

Anyone up for a summary of all the news? KK donuts all been eaten then? Will catch up if able later xx

LadyOfWaffle · 20/02/2008 15:25

Or like a mini tear type thing... Wow, isn't pregnancy amazing?

LadyOfWaffle · 20/02/2008 15:28

Libbysister - it's not effecting/affecting (?!?) my vision too much yet, so don't think it's full blown migrane. First time I had it I went to Sebdoc (out of hours GP) and he gave me an asparin (really can't spell today) He said very occasionally they were OK during pregnancy - it was because everytime I tried to swallow a paracetamol it would literally come flying back up! Now I just have a lemsip when it's really bad - it's the only way I can take paracetamol (I presume it's ok?) I wish they would make adult calpol!
