Welcome to the second trimester

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
libbyssister · 18/02/2008 12:58

Hello again.

Well had the scan this morning there's definitely a baby in there, I was starting to think it was a phantom pregnancy too!

Saw it's little arms and legs and lovely shot of the back with that mini spine running down it. The sonographer FREAKED us out though. He was very careful and quiet and asked lots of questions about my LMP and when I'd done the pregnancy test and whether I'd had any false negative results. And then he sent us out of the room and said he had to get the calculations checked. DH sat in the waiting room crapping ourselves, but it turns out that he's newly qualified and has to get everything checked over by a superior before he confirms... Phew.

So I'm still on for 24 August.

Cheer up Petit Filou... you'll have a cute baby pic to look at by tomorrow to give you something to smile about

Talking of which, we have a scan photo which I'll try to post. But I'm warning you, it looks like we're having a caterpillar!!

stillhere · 18/02/2008 13:57

Fab news libbyssister - I know what it's like getting the silent treatment from the scanmeister/mistress and there's nothing worse than the waiting to hear what's going on.

Also to wish petitfilou luck tomorrow - I was pretty wound up the day before my scan last week and quite hard to live with - it all blew up into lots of tears and a bit of shouting - and I hadn't realised quite how stressed I was until after the scan when my second head retracted back into my body! Not long now though - and plenty of good reasons to have some cake in the meantime...

dizzydixies · 18/02/2008 14:06

libby great news on scan, stupid sonographer - there is nothing worse than the waiting!

petitfilou sounds like you're still trying to get over that flu, make sure you keep taking it easy and enjoy the fact the party is now behind you and you can enjoy all the leftovers.

poppy hope you're getting on ok at work and trout boss from hell not acting up again

managed a lovely long walk along the coast near to where we live today which was lovely and it is SOOOOOOOO nice to feel pooped from acutally doing something for once. Still taking it easy but don't think a wee walk with dh and dog will ruin me!

Buckets · 18/02/2008 15:50

TS - I'm currently hiding out for the rest of my yoga course, went the other week and found it excrutiatingly embarrassing having to everything differently to everyone else! I wasn't allowed to just veg through the banned bits, I had to stand up when everyone else was lying down etc - all very sweet and personal of the instructor but the thought of returning completely stresses me out. I just want to be in a room full of other pregnant ladies! Will start after Easter I think (can't justify paying for 2 courses simultaneously LOL.)

Good to hear more positive scans. Good luck petitfilous.

TwilightSurfer · 18/02/2008 18:06

Buckets that isn't very nice of your yoga instructor. I've been taking it for 20 years and have always been told to rest in child's pose anytime I feel I need to and for as long as I need to AND NEVER PUSH myself beyond my limits. It is YOGA afterall and not a marathon. You should be very happy once in prenatal yoga. The adjustments to the asanas are very slight but nice. I'm going to research one of the stomach exercises a little more and pass along the information as it's very important to staying strong and getting back into form after delivery.

Dizzy your walks sound relaxing. Because of all the rain we've had our lake shorelines are too muddy for a leisurely stroll .

Libby that's wonderful news about your little bean....or catepillar .

Petitfilou soon your illness will be gone and a picture will be in your hands of a lovely little one. Honestly I felt the same way yesterday (DD's birthday is today and we've both had colds for a week). My yoga class gave me back my positive vibe. Maybe a nice brisk walk is all you need. Fresh air in the lungs tends to generate a new attitude for some.

HazieAndBaby · 18/02/2008 21:42

Great news about your scan libbyssister! A girl in my work is having a duck according to her scan picture! My baby didn't look like anything at my 8wk scan, so relieved to see it was actually a baby at the 12wk appt! The difference in 4wks was amazing! I still loved the picture to bits though and if I take off my glasses (I'm so short-sighted I'm almost blind) then I can almost see a turtley kind of thing!!

petitfilou I was a total monster the day of the scan, as DH would testify! I was so nervous that my palms were were sweating and I was shaking before the sonographer took us in!! I hope everything goes well and that you get some good pics for us to go mad over!

OMG dizzy! Look at all the pretty things on ebay!! Now, where'd DH hide his credit card...? xx

gigglegirl · 18/02/2008 22:00

just wanted to check in and say hi to all - have spent all night working - boo hoo! Have had a few more dramas with DD1 and friends and ended up having a long chat with her teacher - which put me at ease as she told me how gorgeous she thought she was and that it was not all in my head but that she had thought that DD1 was dealing with the situation really well and that she wasn't upset by it. She said she had been a bit clingy today and so she is going to address it in circle time. Am hoping things will get better but will see them all inc. the mums at ballet tmw!! Hope it goes well!!

Night night

ElizabethCM · 18/02/2008 22:47

Thankyou TS, I'm so useless on computers! Anyway, picture of my diving baby is now open to the viewing public!

Sad news last night, my lovely sister, who was due three weeks after me, has had a missed miscarriage. She is going into hospital for D&C today. I feel so sad for her and her lovely partner. And I am worried that every experience I now have will remind her of the experience she would otherwise be having. But we are very close and I don't want to keep things from her, or make her feel strange. Does anyone have any tips on being supportive? I live about three hours away, so constant coffee dates are not an option.

TwilightSurfer · 19/02/2008 01:16

Elizabeth that's a wonderful baby picture. As for your sister, just tell her you know someone who miscarried and conceived again just 15 days later....that would be me! I miscarried naturally at 9+6. Unless she truly has a medical condition she'll probably be more fertile now that she was before. Everyone is different so she may feel loads of sorrow but the way I looked at...crying isn't much of a turn on if you've got the baby making bug. Now I'm 14+2 (just 8 weeks behind my previous due date) .

PetitFilou1 · 19/02/2008 08:50

Elizabeth If it were my sister I would tell her exactly what you have said in your post either in a card or if you are very close as you say, just talk to her. The worst thing when you are grieving or if you've just had terrible news (in my experience at least) is for people to ignore it and pretend it didn't happen or to say something trite like 'don't worry, you can always have another one' or 'it was probably just a bundle of cells' which someone said to me when I thought I had miscarried at 6 weeks! She will love you just for being there and supporting her.

PetitFilou1 · 19/02/2008 08:51

And thanks to those people who left me supportive messages from being a misery guts yesterday. A couple of hours until my scan (gulp) don't know why I am so nervous this time!

stillhere · 19/02/2008 09:01

ElizabethCM just wanted to say I had a missed miscarriage with my first pregnancy and it's a real shock. I'm not sure if it's her first pregnancy but with us, we had no idea that you could miscarry without bleeding etc. and that your body could still feel that you were pregnant. We just turned up at a scan full of hope only to be told that there was a problem, and rather than taking scan pictures home two hours later I went straight for the ERPC (D&C) at my local hospital. The hospital were fantastic though, and the early pregnancy unit were really supportive and helped me loads with my subsequent, successful, pregnancy.

Looking back we are really philosophical about it as I know now that I wouldn't have got my wonderful son if my first pregnancy had gone to term, and it also made us think the second pregnancy was more precious (if fragile). Believing that everything happens for a reason helped me get through it, and having supportive friends and family willing to be shoulders to cry on.

Also some good news - my second pregnancy was absolutely fine, despite some early bleeding at 8 weeks, and I delivered naturally at term to a wonderful baby boy. My understanding is that this type of early miscarriage is really common and the main thing is that your sister doesn't feel any guilt about anything she might or might not have done - it's just nature's way of saving us pain at a later stage, I think. Sorry for such a massive posting - hope this helps and all the best to you all.

alittlebitshy · 19/02/2008 09:23

I will have a good catch up later, but wanted to say hi.
Dd had half term last week and as dh was away we went down to my parents so I could be lazy and not have to cook (barf at thought) etc etc. We're back now, and, after a night where the internet was down dh has got it going again .

we told dd about the baby yesterday. Her face was a picture, she screeched "i'm going to be a big sister" and flung herself at me!!!! She keeps whispering to my tummy. Bless her. Slightly scared now cos if something went wrong I can't protect her any longer, but....

Had scan on fri and my rather late booking in app. Didn't like the midwife much, but I gather I won't see the same one each time. Phew! Was v glad had had my private scan at 12 weeks cos this one was very much blink and you'll miss it, but at least i know baby is still growing, wriggling (well, sleeping each time i get scanned ) and - OMG I've somehow got to 16+2!!!

been thinking about all you ladies while i've been away. esp Dizzydixies

mummypud · 19/02/2008 09:42

morning all ,can someone update my info for me plaeas? im a tad not with it enough to do it! my dd is now two , my next midwife appointment is next wed and i am 28 , thankyou ladies

dizzydixies · 19/02/2008 10:45

ElizabethCM i had Exactly the same experience as stillhere and although at the time I thought my heart was broken I've also come to realise in time that these things happen for a reason and had I not lost my first I wouldn't have had dd1. Everything she says is absolutely spot on. My brother and evil sil conceived just as I had mmc and they told me first so I could get head round it before announcing it to everyone. there are only 9months between nephew and dd1. I know its not the same as she obvioulsy knows you are pregnant but as her how she is, maybe being more involved will let her see how to cope next time. son't know her but sending her lots of hugs and to you as well, what a horrible thing to happen

petitfilou positive thoughts coming your way for scan xxxxx

alittlebitshy how lovely your dd is soooo excited. We bought ours a big sister tshirt to wear when she came to see dd2 at the hosp - naff I know but she loved it and walked around like a peacock all day lol congrats on getting to 16+2 I hope your felling better for it and were soilt rotten at parents. thank you for thining of me x

am off back outside to rehang goats head on front door and rewrite 'unclean' and 'diseased' up side of house - spent all evening and some of the night running to toilet not knowing what end to point - TMI SORRY!!! am about to try to eat something just now to give me back some energy, thank goodness dh is still off work to sort the girls - so much for my smugness after walk yesterday, that was short lived

will check back in on you all later ladies
xx

PetitFilou1 · 19/02/2008 12:45

Hello all Had scan today, baby is alive and well, there is only one of them (thank god) and I am officially 13 weeks 1 day so new due date is 25 August. Still none the wiser re my Downs risk etc (which is really frustrating) as I am having a combined risk assessment with the blood test so results not back for two weeks. AAARGH! I am going to have to tell people at work before then as I'm beginning to show, it being my third! Dh thought he saw a willy (he is a cardiologist) - I really wish we could have a surprise but it is not going to happen with him about! Obviously v early days so he isn't sure but he still thought he saw one.

dizzydixies · 19/02/2008 12:58

petitfliou brilliant news!!! what do you have already if this one is possibly blue?
hope you're feeling bit better today

Sorry my admin skills are appalling so updating or putting my photo of my baby on the site has failed, not finding out the sex but due date is 14 Aug which makes me 14.5 days pregnant, still not really showing just look a bit fat. How much weight is normal to put on for the first 15 weeks none of my bks tell me they just say the overall weight gain. I think i have put on 6lbs which seems rather too much ?? So much to catch up on since been away so slowy readin gall yr news etc having horrid headaches so not using computer too much will check back soon
wishing you all happy days

Hello! Remember me?! Ok, so I've only been missing a few days but hey, we are pg and forget things quickly!!

Good news for those who have had scans! Yay for little dancing beans.

I have had to succumb to maternity work clothes as none of my others fit me any longer. I told one of my colleagues today that I am pg, and she said "phew, I thought you were because you are normally quite trim, but I didn't like to ask incase you weren't!" So I guess I'm at that "is she fat or is she pg?" stage

Wicked headaches too. Need to drink more water.....

Oh Dizzy, poor you. Scary too with the cramps. Glad the worst seems to have passed. Know what you mean about just needing your Mum when you're ill. Somehow I just need her scrambled egg on toast when I'm ill, even though she's a terrible cook the rest of the time!

I too am in maternity work clothes. I bought two identical pairs of trousers from Next last time and I remember them being ridiculously comfortable and they really are. The bump's well and truly out and proud. Just no hiding its enormousness.

Petitfilous, glad your scan went ok. Re the Downs risk no news is good news, they will phone you sooner if it's higher than expected.

I bailed out on a chocoholics party last night in favour of bath and bed! Was so tired (thanks to pub quiz last night I guess) I had to make DH come and help me out of the bath. Really want to have sex some time soon but I'm usually asleep by 9pm and DH has taken to watching old wrestling videos until late. It's quite hard not to take it personally!
