'ere we go, guys!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LOVEMYMUM · 10/02/2008 19:40

Just so i don't sound selfish - my friend won't buy a double buggy and had asked me to push a buggy so she could take the children for their vaccination. I've helped her out in the past but at 37 weeks pg and being told to rest, i told her that she put me in a difficult position cos i want to help but can't. She said she doesn't expect it and i told her that she does, otherwise why ask? I showed her the Mothercare catalogue and dble buggy for £115 - she said it's expensive. It is a lot of money, but then she starts talking about having a third baby!

(Her and her DH don't have any family in London - where we live - to help out.)

Sorry to vent - but i got really p*ssed off!

princessllama · 10/02/2008 21:06

lovemymum there was a doublebuggy going on freecycle yesterday

princessllama · 10/02/2008 21:06

not that that will stop her from being a pain in the bum!

omy · 10/02/2008 21:59

www.gumtree.com/ is a great site for 2nd hand stuff for londoners (buying or selling).

SallyInYorkshire · 10/02/2008 22:08

hello everyone!!!

I have had a nice weekend. Now I'm on mat leave I am getting so much rest that I feel absolutely 100% (apart from being a bit of a beached whale physically, of course) and even feel a bit of a fraud for not working! I am so in denial.

Anyway princessllama good on you for standing up to your demanding friend. This sounds a bit harsh but can't the 2 1/2 year old walk, or at least ride on a buggy board??? how does she normally manage?

I have found it a lot easier to say No to people over the last few weeks - it's that sense that LO is so little and vulnerable in there and needs protecting from undue stress and it's up to me to make the choices that are right for my (unborn) child.

Except DH... I still can't say no to him when he asks for anything... but then he also is looking out for LO and would never ask me to do anything that was too much for me.

tyaca · 10/02/2008 22:16

not read all the posts but very big congrats to mutha2beagain! well done - sounds a little bit bumpy but glad it all went well in the end welcome to conor. (your use of the word udder terrified me!)

OP posts:
cosima · 11/02/2008 04:24

hi everyone, congrats to mutha2be. Conor is a lovely name. I am in labour went for a long walk yesterday then woke up at 1am monday morning, having regular contractions ten mins apart, lasting about 50 secs. its now half four. seems okay so far! my dh is still in bed, debating whether he should go to work in the morning my sister has come to stay cos she's got an audition on tuesday but she's gone out with her ex boyfriend and has not come home so i am just sat up drinking tea doing mumsnet and wondering if i should be panicking about anything.

cosima · 11/02/2008 04:56

is this real labour or could it still disappear?

StealthPolarBear · 11/02/2008 06:34

i keep lurking on this thread watching for labour/babies (i'm from april 07)
cosima, are you still there? how are you doing?

Egg · 11/02/2008 08:02

Hi cosima any more developments? Hope things are happening for you you, lolo and PK (and anyone else!).

LOVEMYMUM - I am aghast! Your "friend" is highly highly unreasonable. If she had a newborn baby it would be vaguely more reasonable to expect you to run around after her but she has had a YEAR to get used to having two children... I would not ask anyone to do my shopping for me (except maybe my mum if she was staying here). I would tell her to bugger off...

Argh, a baby is crying. It is not feed time. Back later.

Egg · 11/02/2008 08:04

Hey Polar, your DS is sooo cute! You must know Oooggs if you are from April, she is one of my multiple buddies .

pobletsmum · 11/02/2008 08:42

lovemymum - your friend sounds as though she's being rather selfish to be honest. Now's the time for people to be helping YOU. 'm glad that you put her straight. Don't feel bad about it.

Mutha2beagain - congratulations!

Sally - just enjoy the rest while it lasts

cosima - are you still around? No, don't panic abut anything. I assume that your sis is old enough to look after herself? Now's not the time for worrying! I hope it all happens quickly for you. You asked if it's real labour or if it will disappear - nobodoy knows. You'll know it's real labour if the contractions get longer and stronger. Make sure you rest as much as possible while the pain is bearable, just in case labour does take a long time coming, and keep eating & drinking whatever you fancy to keep your strength up. Very best wishes to you! Did DH go to work?

StealthPolarBear · 11/02/2008 08:53

thank you egg Yes, i'm on Apr07 with oooggs, how do twin mums manage to do anything? I've just had a look at your photos, your DCs are lovely! I really like the waving to her fans one - that's exactly what it looks like!
I think I was the same size as you at 34 weeks - with only one baby

pobletsmum · 11/02/2008 09:01

egg - just peeped at your updated photos. Your babies are gorgeous! And DS1 is very handsome too of course! Happy 1 month birthday to the babes (forgot to say the other day, sorry!).

lolo, PK - any news?

bovrilsarnies · 11/02/2008 10:22

Morning all - another beautiful sunny one here!!

MyMissus ? any news on the cramping front? Has it progressed to anything more? Hope you are feeling okay.

Gill ? thanks for the heads-up on what we might expect as first timers!! I have to admit I haven?t a clue what to expect from either the labour or having a little person entirely relying on me!! Am trying not to have any pre-conceptions so that I can be ready for anything!!

Omy ? I have also decided to wait patiently for LO ? I have found myself thinking since 37 weeks that it could happen any time!! But Now I have decided that she will not appear till AT LEAST my due date of the 21st Feb because:

  1. the 21st is a full moon ? allegedly LOTS of babies are born around the full moon.
  2. Sods law says if you are expecting their arrival sooner rather than later ? they will arrive later.
  3. Neither Me nor DP are particularly good at being on time for ANYTHING ? so I don?t expect our offspring to be prompt either!!

I won?t be thinking about induction till I am well and truly overdue either ? especially as when I first found out I was PG, I had calculated the EDD as 28th Feb.

Princess ? I have had loads of really strong BH for the last 4 weeks or so. But they are never painful. Just a really strong / hard feeling across my belly ? and the baby feels like she is trying to back up and climb out via my ribcage!!?
I can totally relate to your ginormous cats ? mine were the same after a spell in the cattery, but it didn?t take them long once they were home and running around again to shift the weight and get back to normal. I know ours had limited room for dashing around in the cattery, so it?s not surprising they gained so much weight.

Lovemymum ? sorry to hear your DH is poorly! I am totally with you though ? I would be gutted to get ill with something like that now and the last thing you need is to be looking after someone else ? this is the time when you are supposed to be taking it easy and saving your energy. But if he seems much better now ? then he probably is. Just make sure he takes it easy too.
I think you are right to put your foot down with your friend. Just keep in mind that you have to put yourself first at the moment! It?s not for long now.

Sally ? glad you are enjoying your MAT leave! I have been off for 1 week now ? but did sneakily check my work Emails yesterday- just to see who might have mailed me! I know what you mean by feeling a bit of a fraud not working. I have been constantly employed since I was 19 so it is WEIRD being off work!!

Cosima ? are you still around? Sounds like real labour to me! How are you doing?

PK / Lolo ? any news???

mymissus · 11/02/2008 10:43

Hi all
Isn't it a GORGEOUS day again - going to make the most of it and go out now for as long as I can stand up!

Thanks bs - am fine. Have had small show (I think?! yesterday after my DP took me for a walk on top of a hill then drove over every bump and grating on the way home!!
Thought things may progress last night and get more cramps, but no. Another crap nights sleep listening to DP snoring next to me, and willing myself to sleep for at least a little while I can! But Hey ho, like you and Omy I am going to TRY and be as patient as possible (being a Sagittarian that goes against nature though!) and enjoy my peaceful time.

Lovely pics Egg - I can't believe how quickly they are growing. You must be really proud.

Good luck Cosima - keep positive!!

Hope things are going well for PK and Lolo - they seem very quiet so I guess they are somewhat occupied!

Have a fab day everyone - enjoy the spring weather

widgetsmummy · 11/02/2008 11:54

Congrats to the newly hatched! Happy labouring vibes to all the rest - must have been something in the air over the weekend, maybe Spring lambing vibes??

seems it appeared to work for PK...

Happy D Day to me, Happy D Day to me, Happy D Day to me... Happy D Day to me!

Sadly though, even though the sun is shining I have no expectations of LO arriving anytime soon. MW came to the house this morning, all normal. Am bouncing on ball, although warning to the unwieldly (sp?), did manage to fall off it backwards on Sat. Poor DH tried to catch me but couldn't get off the sofa quick enough. Pulled muscle in my back but its not too bad, felt a bit stupid and did cry mind!

Thanks for the info on vests and baby gros and nipple cream, have bought some and its in the hospital bag ready. No doubt will moan about being officially overdue in the coming week - I apologise in advance!

Enjoy the weather everyone, it does make the waiting easier although am desperate to get the pram out (preferably with a baby in it!)

Eagerly awaiting news x

violeta · 11/02/2008 12:40

Congrats to all newly hatched babes - they seem to be coming thick and fast now!

Good luck cosima and pk! Happy due date widgetsmummy!

And I reckon Jo must have popped now as well? She hasn't been on for a while now and her due date was a few days back now I think.

bovril: as my last remaining due date buddie (I think!), I can completely empathise with what you say about the 21st! Did you know it's also a total lunar eclipse by the way? (not that this affects babies as far as I know but just for interest!) I have been getting what I think are bh over the past week or so but nothing else that makes me think that anything is going to happen soon...

Have a good day everyone!
xx

morningglory · 11/02/2008 13:01

Congratulations on all the new hatchlings. Sounds like we should have news of a couple more by the end of today!

To all those who are overdue...hang in there!

I've been off the boards for several days due to a nasty cold and mild conjunctivitis given to me by ds1. Alexander is fine, and finally eating well (now that my milk is in). Only problem is that I'm suffering from a BAD case of cracked nipples. I think that I'm in more pain during the first 5 seconds of breastfeeding than I was during my labour! Now I'm remembering this pain from the first time I breastfed (can't believe I had forgotten...probably protective amnesia!).

I'm feeling slothful and can't be bothered to change out my my pjs and dressing gown. I will get out today to enjoy the glorious sun and start to try and shift some of these pregnancy pounds.

have a great day everyone!

SallyInYorkshire · 11/02/2008 13:26

Bother, just noticed I got lovemymum and princessllama mixed up back there. Good thing I am on mat leave eh and not still messing things up at work

Right am off out to enjoy the sunshine, Monday is supposed to be the nicest day this week in Yorkshire. The sheep down my road have all just had their lambs this weekend so yes I reckon there was something in the air!!!!

LOVEMYMUM · 11/02/2008 14:28

Morningglory - ouch - sounds painful!

Sally - don't worry about mixing us up - i can't even remember who to reply to on mumsnet!

DH still at home - got a virus which is making him tired. He's a lot better now.

Bovril - yup - it is a bit strange not being at work. I left my job end Dec and it took me about a month to get used to being at home (and i was only working 3 days a week, 10 till 4!).

Thanks for the Gumtree suggestion. I might mention it to her. They do have a buggy board but the older child isn't very fond of standing on it. My friend called me on Saturday night to tell about some friends of hers who have just announced their pregnancies. I don't know these people and i know it sounds selfish but i don't really care either! THEN she starts wittering on about having another child. I asked her how she would cope with three and she said they would deal with it if and when! I told her my neighbour (who has just had no. 2) bought her double buggy before no. 2 baby was born and i think she was impressed that she thought to plan ahead. I don't want to be rude, but sometimes i wonder if people think! Sorry, rant over.

bovrilsarnies · 11/02/2008 14:34

Happy D Day Widget!! Hopefully you won't go too far overdue!. I've had a couple of near misses bouncing on my ball too - but it takes me back to when I was a kid with my space hopper....... perhaps that?s what they should do!! make these balls with 2 little handles on them to hang on to!! that would be totally excellent!!

Didn't know about the lunar eclipse Violeta - that sounds pretty cool.

Ooooooh Morningglory - sounds so painful!

Any other first timers really starting to wonder 'bout this breastfeeding malarkey - I have not come across a single person to not have any pain!! - but at the breast feeding talk I went to - they assured us that it doesn't hurt everyone I?m starting to not believe them.

omy · 11/02/2008 14:57

Happy D Day Widgetsmummy. Those balls are dangerous - my 10 year old insists on bouncing on it and she landed on the floor the other day as the ball moved mid bounce! Ouch!

Sorry for you sore nips Morninglory - Ouch!

Hope PK, LOLO and cosima are doing well.

I have completely collapsed on the induction front! Since last night I have been worried that LO is not moving as much as usual and this morning I couldn't feel any movement and panicked. So I took myself into hospital and - lo and behold the heartbeat was FINE - she was asleep! She then woke up, started moving and heartbeat picked up more. It was horrible worrying though and I probably will go in for my induction tomorrow morning (ugh) - but better to be safe than sorry. Its my old age of 40 that is worrying the doctors - and since it is 10 years since last labour they say that the body acts like it is a first labour! hmmmm we will see. They were all so nice in the hospital it did reassure me though. It would be so nice to go into normal labour tonight.

rozzyraspberry · 11/02/2008 15:43
