'ere we go, guys!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pobletsmum · 08/02/2008 10:21

I apologise in advance for not having read everyone's posts, but hope for an answer to a question first...

Am I being completely crazy? I woke up this morning swollen pretty much all over. My knuckles had disappeared (creases), as had the contours of my ankles and my face - great to have lost my wrinkles! I got DS and myself up & dressed etc, then walked DS to playgroup (less than 1/2 mile) & back, by which time I wasn't puffy any more. I decided to ring the on-call midwives and I'm waiting for them to call me back. So my question is are they going to think I'm a pain in the bum & time-waster? At the end of the day, the swelling's almost all gone now. At almost exactly this stae with DS' pregnacy, I swelled up & had floaters in my vision (which I haven't had today), MW checked my BP, which was up, and I had to go to hosp for monitoring. I didn't have pre-eclampsia or anything & was sent home for twice weekly BP checks (although went into labour 3 days later).

So... I'm sitting waiting for the phone to ring feeling guilty for wasting their time, and would be grateful for any reassurance that I'm not crazy (I hope!).

Off to read everyone else's posts now.

HAPPY D- DAY TO ME HAPPY D-DAY TO ME HAPPY D-DAY DEAR HIPPO HAPPY D-DAY TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes Ladies I have finally reached the magical estimated due date! Although I know this means nothing really (other than it's definately 30 weeks and a day since I had my first scan)I do believe that it really is magical!

I've woken up happy with feet full of fluid (I can feel it slosh with every step, yuck) and I'm very very tearful but surprisingly not in a bad way! No real signs that the baby is coming today, or tomorrow or any other dayfrothat matter but today it doesn't matter!

The baby's been kicking and wriggling so much since last night and it actually hurts so I figure she's getting really really squashed in there! Ha, maybe that'll make her decide to move out! lol!

I've just had a bath in baby products. Don't ask me why, it just seemed appropriate! I now smell all lovely and baby like! Yummy!

Just waiting for my Tescos shop to be delivered so I can feed the cats and they can go and have their nap. (they're normally curled up by 10:30 but they're pestering me instead!)

Anyway enough about me, I'm off to catch up on the goings on around here!

Be back in a bit!

omy · 08/02/2008 10:55

pobletsmum - I don't think you should feel bad about 'timewasting' - you have every right to be reassured - it's their job. I can't give advice as I have no idea - but I think it is always best to check these things out.
Good luck

pobletsmum · 08/02/2008 11:01

dontcallmeyummy - thanks for linking to all the tips. It brings it all back to me (this is my 2nd baby). All good advice.

blue - so glad someone is actually taking you seriously at last (rheumatologist). Sorry that you're not getting the support that you deserve .

BARGAIN ALERT! Sainsburys are doing half price on all baby & toddler toiletries & wipes, including all the lotions & potions that we probably won't need, but also Lansinoh nipple cream (£10 down to £5), which I found completely indispensible, disposible knickers, Kandoo toddler wipes in special tub for 99p (I use these for myself , and DS does too now he's toilet trained), breast pads, Infacol (mentioned earlier by egg I think) - I used bottles & bottles of the stuff with DS to help his wind and bought a bottle yesterday just in case. There is much more half price too, just thought I'd give a few examples of relevant items.

I'm still waiting for midwife to call, feeling more and more like a timewaster . thanks for the reassurance though omy.

cosima · 08/02/2008 11:01

happy d day pk. its mine tomorrow, but feeling just the same. am going to force myself to go for a walk today and tell lo to take his posters down and pack his luggage

Jaysthird · 08/02/2008 11:07

Morning all, although it already feels like the middle of the afternoon, after being up since 4 this morning....

Happy burpday PK, hope you have a lovely day! LOL at you bathing in baby products, i did the same the other night, but because i had run out of bubblybath! Strange how your feet swell up overnight isnt it....guess its just one of those things...

However, Popletsmum, i think you are justified to call your MW to ask their opinion. better to be safe than sorry at this stage. Even if the fluid has diminished, whos to say its not a 'warning' of some sort. I am sure you will be ok, and i hope the MW can put your mind at rest

Blue, i have to say, i dont really enjoy pregnancy either. i find it a pain in the ass. Dont get me wrong, i always feel lucky and privileged that i am able to get/be pregnant, but it seems to me that you are 'supposed' to be happy throughout term, when in reality, its has a lot of down moments. Try not to worry too much about the painkillers you have had/are having, i am sure that you wouldnt have been given them if there was anything untoward going to come of it, and as for feeling guilty about your parents helping, i am sure they dont even give it a second thought! Not long now, keep your chin up

Dontcallmeyummy... this time last year i was getting ready for my DS (born March 18th) and am in the same boat again this year!! BUT i had forgotten some of the things i was doing and reading through your thread bought it all back to me. How quickly the time goes and how blurry it can all become!

Hope everyone else is ok, DD at nursery so just me and the monster at home, hoping to catch some zzz's later as he had me up since 4 this morning

pobletsmum · 08/02/2008 11:20

Lovely midwife just rang and reassured me. She's happy for me to just keep an eye on things, and have my BP checked as planned next thursday (next mw appt). If I have any other symptoms at all I've got to call straight back. Sometimes I think I just need to hear from a MW that all is OK. Now I can relax for the next 45 mins till I have to go and collect DS from playgroup. I don't know where the time goes!

omy · 08/02/2008 11:42

Happy D Day PK Glad you are feeling good today.

Pk616 · 08/02/2008 11:59

Well let that be a lesson to me never to stay away from the thread for too long! I was only away for a day and there is just waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much going on for me to be able to comment to all, which I like doing! so here's my best condensed shot!

Merly, Sarah and Joosey - MAHOOSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to all of you, your babies and your fella's! Now get to staring adoringly at your bundles of yummyness and blank the rest of the world out!

Jo - HAPPY D-DAY TO YOU TOO

Princess - Thanks for the advice re MIL believe me, she will be spoken to before long, I just need to do it to her face

MrsD - Get well soon

Blue - Sorry you've hads such a hard time of it with your pregnancy. We all have our complaints but you seem to have been cut a really raw deal. Like others have said, don't feel bad about the parents helping, it's what parents do! Your DP needs a good kick up the arse. I think you need to ask him to give you a hand. I don't know anything about painkillers but I'm sure that you wouldn't have been given anything if you didn't need it and the medics would have advised you of risks to the lo. Don't feel guilty, you've been really challenged with your health issues during your pregnancy and from what you've posted you have always thought of your lo before you.

Poblet - NEVER think of yourself as a time waster! You are supposed to call your MW if ANYTHING is worrying you and it is her job to fix it even if all that means is to reassure you!

Cosima - Happy D-Day for tomorrow (I will have forgotten by then) lol @ taking down posters and packing!

Ooo, shopping's here!

CountTo10 · 08/02/2008 12:01

Congrats Sarah and joosey. Sarah a big fat finger up to the knobber of a doctor that was planning to 'zip you open'!!

Beans - Ive just scared ds2 lol to your west wing comment!!

Anyone of the hatchers attempted expressing? I'm having a nightmare trying to do it. just using the avent pump i used last time and my boobs are having none of it. any tips?? wondered if i've broken the pump - might buy a new one cause can't face being the only one able to feed ds2. have been really blubbing about it which i know is stupid cause i should just be grateful that things are going so well

It's my bday today and have had a lovely chilled morning. nice bath, coloured my hair and have mascara on - a miracle i tell you!!! feeling much more human now. even if i was blubbing to i'll stand by you from my new love cd purcahsed by dp!!

Hmmmmmm methinks the baby blues are here!!!

Hope we're all well and looking forward to more baby news!!!!

cosima · 08/02/2008 13:37

congrats to sarah and joosey. - Why did he have a bruised nose?

widgetsmummy · 08/02/2008 15:39

thanks for the birth stories ladies - we do like the quick ones! the fact that Sarah had her LO was the first thing I said to DH when he came home from work yesterday (after crying to him about that stupid consultant previous night!)

PK - happy D Day, glad you are so happy and lol at bathing in the baby products, might give that a go!

funny how the sunshine can make the world a better place. was in tears last night having had enough but happy as larry today, sweeping patio and tidying garden, also DH is finishing work at 4pm! yay!

quick question - do babies wear vests underneath baby grows? thanks!

beansprout · 08/02/2008 15:53

Count - I have in the back of my mind somewhere that expresssing is best tried after the 6 week mark once things are established. I am not going to try until then even though things are fairly sorted on that front. And Happy Birthday!!

Poblet - glad things are ok. Swelling and floaters are always worth a phone call so no hint of time wasting there. Am just sorry they took so long to get back to you. Will be having a mooch in Sainsbury's too - thanks for the tip off!

Blue - I can only echo what others have said but you really have not had an easy time of it. This pregnancy business is hard at the best of times so please look after yourself. May you be rewarded with an easy baby...!

Have been to the park (Queens Park for all you NW Londoners!!) and cafe today with a friend and our combined total of 4 children!! Ds2 just slept in the sling for 4 hours!!!
Is anyone else going down the sling route? Am determined to try it this time, not least as there is no way I can manage a pushchair AND a toddler up and down the station steps that I have to use so often (inc getting ds1 to and from nursery 3 days a week). Also, I never see babies in slings crying as they tend to in pushchairs (selfish reason number one) and I am also secretly hoping that carrying around ds2 will help me lose some of the pregnancy weight (selfish reason number 2). That said, I need to get the right type so I don't have to make friends with the osteopath again!! All advice gratefully received!!

beansprout · 08/02/2008 15:55

WM - yes, certainly in the winter. Usually those little t-shirt things that do up under the nappy.

omy · 08/02/2008 17:38

Beansprout - I think the baby bjorn slings are the best. I am going to get the 'active' one that has extra back support - a whacking £75 quid new but I'm on the hunt for a 2nd hand one! (or a rich friend who says 'what can I buy you?!')

omy · 08/02/2008 17:40

Cosima - DD2 had a bruised nose too! She looked like she had been in a fight when she came out -I thought - 'oh well not a very pretty baby, never mind!' - until the swelling went down a day later and her prettiness emerged!

Egg · 08/02/2008 18:06

Beany I am using Baby Bjorn Active with DS2 and he passes out in it the minute he goes in, even if he was sobbing before. However I did find with DS1 that it is not all that comfortable once they get heavier (although maybe my straps were not adjusted correctly).

I bought the Hug a Bub sling thinking babies were too small for BB one, but have not used it yet, am a bit nervous!

Did I mention they got weighed today. DD went from 5lbs 6 to 6lbs 9 in 10 days, and DS2 went from 6lb 8 to 8lbs 3 in 10 days .

Sorry not read all posts again, had parents here today and been manic.

beansprout · 08/02/2008 18:52

Egg - I had a BB with ds1 but, like so many other people, found it pretty uncomfortable. The active one sounds better but at £75, that's quite pricey. Will definitely have a look though.

Well done on the dt's weight gain!!

LOVEMYMUM · 08/02/2008 18:56

Hi Tyaca.

Yup - second post influenced by DH - but also by my own knowledge.

The hatched list is growing daily! A big welcome to all the newly-hatched and well done to all the mums.

Blue - you have had a horrible time of it. Have you asked DH to help you more?

omy · 08/02/2008 20:21

Fantastic weight gain egg! Nice and reassuring to see them fatten up!

ayrshirelolo · 08/02/2008 20:29

Hiya ladies, well i think i'm now officially the last one on the Jan thread... there were 2 of us left yesterday but Ronnielane has been quiet today, and she usually posts before now so imagine it's me left to stack the chairs and sweep the floor! Thank you all for putting up with me, it's good to know you're all still here (and i think proves the point about keeping it as one thread... i'd be very miserable if i didn't have you Febbers to keep me sane!)
Oh Blue, you're feeling so miserable! Wish we could do more, but i would echo everyone else, unfortunatly men are lovely but sometimes a bit thick at working out what we need them to do, (sorry, i know i'm generalising hugely!!) so maybe an idea to just tell him that there are lots of things you just physically can't do right now and see if that helps? Hope so, and as far as the in laws are concerned, tell them to feck off!! Outrageous comment about your future contraceptive choices (and none of their damn business! I'm so angry for you!)
My blessed fil phoned this morning, thank god dh picked up, the message was.. "any news?" dh - "no, we'd let you know" .. fil "tell her to have a hot bath." What the f*ck? Oh right, no worries, that's BOUND to work then, isn't it? Why didn't i think of that?? >>
Egg, fabby weight gain! they'll be sleeping through before you know it at that rate!!
Widgetsmummy, depends on how warm it is!! My dd still wears wee bodysuit / vest things during the day, but doesn't have one under her sleepsuit at night, as she's warm enough in her sleeping bag but depends on the temp in your house! think the general rule is very young babies should have one more layer on than you for the first 8 weeks or so, but that better for them to be too cool than too hot, so no wrapping them up like wee sausages in centrally heated houses!! Does that make sense? hope so!
Anyway, still here, still pregnant, still getting twinges (big one in Tesco today, got all excited... then nothing!)still fed up.... send me vibes, ladies!! please?? ta! Hope everyone has a good sleep, lolo xx
