Good morning all you creme egg lovers ( and those weird ones amongst us who don't appreciate them)

Good luck for all the scans coming up this week, and next.

I live in Herts, but used to commute into London as couldn't face living there. Like PP I worked near Cheapside - very near in fact, so glad I don't have that train/tube journey anymore.

Ktpie, I also used to live near Nottingham - well near Mansfield really which is not nice but Nottingham is great for shopping!

I still have really faint days too, but have really low blood pressure so not really anything I can do about it. I find that I am really panicky about fainting in supermarkets/shops as they tend to be hot and there is lots of bending up and down involved so have just stopped going shopping on my own and make the Tesco man deliver. I do wonder if I am making myself have panic attacks and creating a whole bigger problem than just the faintness...

Oh I feel so sorry for myself. I started to get a cold a couple of days ago and feel rotten. Yesterday I locked myself out of the house, I tohught dp had my key but I had to take the kids to school and nursery amd before I relaised I didn't have my key it was too late to ask another mum to do it for me. I had to call dp who luckily can work from home to come home and let me in, I nearly cried when I saw him at the station because I was just so happy to be able to get back into the house. DD1 came home yesterday with a party invite for tonight (she'd had it since tuesday just forgot to brong it home!) at 6pm, it's about 25 mins walk from my house and I said yes despite feeling exhausted. Luckily one of my neighbours daughters is going so she will do both pick up and drop off ( I wish I could drive). DD2's cough is getting worse so I had to take dd1 to school, dd2 to the dr's then to nursery then I had to go back into town to get the prescrition and in 1 1/2 hours I have to pick dd2 up again, it really is so relentless!

goingfor3 · 22/02/2008 11:29

I used to live in London, Finsbury Park was my favourite place I lived in but it was pre children and we had alot of friends to go out with wouldn't live there with children. We moved further out in north London then left it altogether when we moved to Herts. It was the best move to make for the children. DP still works in central london and I go to london quite frequently so don't feel like we are missing out on anything.

sophiewd · 22/02/2008 11:33

goingfor3 - I know how you feel, and DH is just sat here drinking lemsip which smells so lovely and I can't have any. All the rooms done now for the weekend but toatlly knackered from doing them, just got more ironing to do this afternoon but might postpone that.

DH is taking DD to Kent tomorrow to do his family bit, his broither and SIL are great but Dad and Step mum I sturggle with, what really pees me off is that we always get asked if they can come down here, never get asked to anything up there. Mind you it took a lot of persuasion to get DH to go, it's his brothers 50th and then we don't see them until July when we are going to take the baby up.

Josie57 · 22/02/2008 11:35

G43 You poor thing! At times like these it feels like you are never going to get back to normal but it will happen. Your cold will pass and your dd's will get better and hopefully you'll feel back to your cheery self. I find being ill with kids or having ill kids or both a real drain. Myself and my dh hardly ever used to get sick and if we did we'd have one bad day and then be back to normal. But now we catch a lot more of what my ds gets and it seems to drag us down a lot more as the illnesses seem to drag on for a long time. We had one awful period last year when I had just returned to work where for a period of 5 weeks we had at least one person ill. I really thought it was never going to end. In fact I talked about going to HR and seeing if I could get a months unpaid leave as it seemed no way out of the cycle of illness. It was horrid, so I know how you feel. It's probably worse when you are pregnant as well as you can't take much to ease the symptoms. I'm sending you a big hug and the biggest virtual slice of chocolate cake with a cream egg filling!!

PiggyPenguin · 22/02/2008 12:06

G43, you totally have my sympathy, try to get some time to put your feet up at some stage. I know that is impossible practically with illness but what I mean is, definitely don't do the ironing etc, take any time you can for yourself.

Has anyone else been following the debate about using a dummy to prevent SIDS? I haven't heard this before and both my kids have been bf with no dummy. I'm really confused about it all...

makecakesnotwar · 22/02/2008 12:53

My/baby's love of Creme Eggs is waning in favour of.....grapes! What's that all aboput? Oh, and love of pickled onions also waning, due to .....heartburn!!!

Very proud to have just put together various bits of flatpack for the nursery....and have almost packed hospital bag. Anyone want to play spot-the-first-time-mum?

bitofadramaqueen · 22/02/2008 12:57

How busy has the chat been today!?!? I cant keep up.

G43, so sorry you're feeling so rotten. Josie's right though, it will get better. Have a virtual creme egg from me .

Re: the weekend - friends from London (of course!) visiting tomorrow and carpet cleaning of the baby's room on Sunday.

Sybil - I've only seen a bit of the debate; read that using a dummy when settling a baby for sleep can reduce the risk of SIDS? But, read some concerns that if you miss a night with the dummy then increased risk? Oh, and that if bf you have to wait till bf is established before starting with the dummy. Is that right? To be honest, all this kind of research and debate bamboozles me.

josey · 22/02/2008 13:59

Just popping in to say hello, have recovered from falling down the stairs though had a pretty scary night of Monday thankfully all settled. Been really busy here with this that and the next thing.

Managed to get a v shaped pillow yesterday for £5.99 out of Dunelm and I had a great sleep 1st in ages.

I burst out laughing in Asda yesterday as I saw a mother with her Bugaboo and a toddler who's head was a few inches higher than the folded back hood bit

Got to go to the horrid mils this weekend DH gran really not too good and I got a phone call to say mine has also taken a turn collapsed in the middle of the night as was chocking on her tounge, thankfully my Uncle is staying with her just now.

Have a good weekend everyone.

systemsaddict · 22/02/2008 14:04

Commiserations G43, it's really tough feeling rotten. Hope you get better soon.

I heard the same as dramaqueen on dummies and SIDS when expecting ds. We chose not to use a dummy with him because we were too worried we would forget it one night and inadvertently heighten his risk instead of lowering it. Also I was bf and didn't want to confuse that - he had a crap latch anyway which we struggled to sort out (which meant pain for me for quite a long time) and a dummy could have made that worse.

He ended up using a dummy for a couple of months when he started nursery, as a comfort thing when I wasn't available, but not if I was around. We did use it at night as an experiment a couple of times when he was a bit older. Got 2 uninterrupted nights' sleep from it in a row for the first time, then a couple of nights of waking every 45 minutes to put it back in for him, so it got nixed from then on!!

As I understand it, the most important things for SIDS are to put them on their backs, not overheat, not allow them to get tangled up in bedding and not let anyone smoke in the house. After that it's fine tuning - and remember it's a really low risk anyway.

calebsmum · 22/02/2008 14:29

God why are men so mardy?? DP left for work in a right strop this morning all huffing and puffing and saying "For gods sake!", all because DS spilt a bit of milk on the sofa

DS had a nice birthday, we are having his party tomorrow so have that to sort out. Had MW appointment, am having blood test next week and have gained 6lbs so far!

Anyone else ordering a tens machine?? Am going to have a look online and place an order in the next few weeks, can't believe it's only a few more weeks then hello 3rd trimester!!

Josie57 · 22/02/2008 14:36

Calebsmum- what a relief to hear you have only gained 6 lb. I have been getting worried as I have only gained about that as well. I didn't weigh myself at all last time so I have nothing to compare it to. But with all the talk of weight on here I thought I would jump on the scales, I was a bit shocked at the lack of weight as my bump is quite big and my boobs have increased a lot! I guess we should we be happy as I'm sure lots of people will kick us if we complain about not putting on weight I'm 23 weeks, what are you? Do you know what weight you put on last time?

calebsmum · 22/02/2008 14:44

Hi Josie, i'm 26wks I didn't put alot of weight on with DS either and he was fine although he only weighed 5lb 15oz! Seems to run in the family though and he soon made up for it. As long as you and the baby are fine and healthy I really wouldn't worry about weight gain.

goingfor3 · 22/02/2008 14:48

Thanks everyone all of your kind words and cyber chocolate have made me feel better. I asked one of the mums to give me a lift home from nursery which was lucky for dd2 as she has just fallen asleep so would have been miserable on the way home, a friend is picking up dd1 and I will have her dd2 for a while this evening when she takes the big dd's to their party. I am just so thankful to the friends I have around me.

josey so glad all is well after falling donw the stairs.

claphamkitten · 22/02/2008 17:46

Well I'm another Londoner, I'm afraid. We now live in Forest Hill (SE23), but lived in Clapham for 5 years before that, so still south of the river. Would love to live in the countryside, but can't see it happening for a while somehow...

x

Upsidedowncake · 22/02/2008 19:51

G43, how miserable. I hope you are feeling better.

Josey, I didn't realise that you had fallen down stairs. I'm glad that you have recovered as it gave me quite a shock and seemed to take a long time to get over it. I hope all the relatives get better soon, and that you don't have too horrid a weekend.

Calebsmum, Josie57, A lot of the weight that people put on is water - I had at least a stone of water last time. You thinner people are probably sylph-like rather than puffy like me. NH101, how much of your weight gain is water, do you think?

re SIDS, dummies, all the rest of it, I think the effect of this is minimal compared to being careful about overheating and putting them to sleep on their backs.

Lots of tantrums from DS today. He's noticed that the pretending to cry ones don't work, but the throwing things around ones do. So now he throws stuff around a lot, and I have to not react. Grrrr.

Rolf · 22/02/2008 20:02

No idea what I weigh - head in sand. One charming symptom I had with DS1, and which I'm sure contributed to weight gain, was horrible water retention. In the few weeks after he was born I soaked through several sets of sheets a night.

sophiewd · 22/02/2008 20:31

Oh Upsidedowncake, I know how you feel, it is so difficult to ignore when DD starts throwing things around, keep at it though her tantrums are getting fewer

bitofadramaqueen · 22/02/2008 20:44

My head is in the sand with you - dont know what I weighed pre-pregnancy and dont know now . I know I went up two sizes pre-pregnancy though .

Josey, glad you're ok!

Am away to put my feet up and eat some minstrels (fancied a change from creme egges).

Wigeon · 22/02/2008 21:20

Sounds like there might be a Hertfordshire enclave as well as a London posse? Goingfor3 and Sybilvimes - whereabouts are you? Where are you planning to have the baby? I'm in St Albans and currently planning for Alexandra Birthing Centre or Watford General. I'm sure someone else mentioned they were in Welwyn too. Was rather annoyed to find West Herts NHS Trust was bottom of that Heathcare Commission report about maternity services but wrote to my MP and felt a bit better about it! Apparently West Herts have improved a lot since the data which the report was based on was collected.

Sorry to hear everyone isn't in the peak of physical fitness and hope the weekend helps! (apart from if you are running a B&B and are therefore mega busy...)

calebsmum · 22/02/2008 21:29

God am starting to panic about party tomorrow, am organising and catering for the whole thing myself, oh well Asda here I come! Anyone elses bump jigging all over the place? Mine seems to actually shake at times.

Also have a toddler throwing daily tantrums, find ignoring him and walking off works as does the naughty step. If I shout he shouts back at me and I get more wound up!

I retained water AFTER i'd given birth to DS, was very bloated and thought something was seriously wrong with me when I kept waking up and the sheets were drenched!

Have added a new pregnancy photo to my profile and a family one

debinaustria · 23/02/2008 10:33

Good luck with the party Calebsmum, I'm sure it will be fine.Lovely photos on your profile btw.

Just having a biscuit break from cleaning the apartments.Back's aching.

Deb - enjoy your day off tomorrow, have 7 for breakfast and DH has just gone to Kent with DD for the night to see his family, managed to get out of it, I know I shouldn't be happy but I am. Going to watch the rugby today and do ironing, read book, go out for something to eat tonight on my own and then take advantage of a big bed to myself tonight.

In a moment of madness and slight boredom wnet on netmums and promptly cam off before I threw up, [shudder emotion]

calbesmum hope the party went OK today, make sure you put your feet up tonight.

debinaustria · 23/02/2008 13:59

Thanks Sophie, enjoy your time alone - sounds like you've got some good things planned! I have 14 arriving today from the Netherlands. Temperatures are ridiculously high - not good when you're coming skiing. Ds1 is outside playing in a T shirt.

Just trying to order online Mothers day gifts! It's not Mother's day here until May - when is it yours Ernest?

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 23/02/2008 16:11

Hey everyone - not sure how much my weight gain is water. Not much I don't think cos I still look quite slim apart from bump (check out my profile!). I have gained 2lbs most weeks, sometimes 3, sometimes 1. I am not too puffy though my engagement ring is a bit tighter and so is my watch.

I got my car seats yesterday and the pram should be delivered next week! It is all so exciting... the babies have been a bit quiet though today, I like it better when they are squirming!

I changed my name too - Neenz is close to my real name so thought that was better!
