Good morning all you creme egg lovers ( and those weird ones amongst us who don't appreciate them)

Good luck for all the scans coming up this week, and next.

FWIW a friend of mine who has 7 (count 'em!) children always uses a rear-facing pushchair. I like them too. I have a Mamas & Papas pram that I use when they are little, and I have it rear-facing for about a year or so.

ktpie · 14/02/2008 11:35

Just been having another look on ebay and if I'm not too fussy about how it looks there are some really cheap options on there for pram/pushchair combos mostly (we looked last night and couldn't see any, shouldn't have let DH be in charge of the mouse!). Think I will stick with my initial thoughts of wanting a rearward facing one and get one second hand.

debinaustria · 14/02/2008 11:37

Aberdeen - lol at the poo in the night story.
With us dh was changing ds in the night and the poo shot out and all up dh - he was covered.I still laugh about it now.

Aberdeen pmsl at the poo, not funny for you at the time though, I have never had a problem with shooting poos I have to say, Maybe I will end up with egg(shall we say) on my face this time

Does your local paper have adds? ktpie there was a really nice mammas and pappas in ours the other day everything for £60 and it looked bran new, at least with the ones advertised there you can go and view and if you dont like you dont need to buy. A friend of mine who looked after her sisters kids was always buying new prams from the paper that had maybe been used once I was amazed at how nice prams she picked up.

Josie57 · 14/02/2008 11:49

Oh the joy of poo and wee stories!

There are two I remember particularly. One case of my ds weeing during a nappy change (whilst on a changing table!) and weeing all over the picture of this lovely little girl that I had stuck on the wall for him to look at whilst I was changing him.

The second was after his bath one evening when he was running around in the nip and he suddenly stopped and leant his hand against the bedroom wall and took a wee up against the wall. It just looked so grown up for a 1 year old - but probably just a sneak preview of things to come

As for the poo while my ds poo'd after nearly every feed in the early days so we have hundreds of stories of escaping poo. At least we always had warning as it seemed to come out with a rumble! So much for BF babies only pooing every few days

josey · 14/02/2008 11:49

just wanted to add, nothing to do with bumps etc but my DS is getting married to his girlfriend today in the playgroundIm going to take a note of this day somewhere to torment him with in 10 years time

ernest · 14/02/2008 11:54

aw, congrats josey. has he done it yet? Do you like your new dil ?

Rolf · 14/02/2008 11:55

I really like this wardrobewww.thewhitecompany.com/department2.aspx?DepGrpCode=FUR&DepCode=BQVL but sadly no-one is selling it on e-bay for a tenner

josey · 14/02/2008 12:00

Ernest im not sure if it was at break or lunch, hopefully break and his teeth will still be clean! Im gutted I didnt get an invite do you think he would be annoyed if I turned up in the playground with a big hat on
I havent actually met her but she is very clever and very pretty so cant be too bad

ktpie · 14/02/2008 12:01

josey - local paper sounds like a good idea, will try that, thanks! How cute about your son! I remember playground engagements and weddings with jelly rings!

bitofadramaqueen · 14/02/2008 12:53

Josey - LOL at your son! Maybe you should take your camera when you pick him up and see if you can get some pictures of the happy couple...

Gorgeous wardrobe Rolf. I'm sad for you . Thanks again to everyone re: changing table chat and the reality check. Am now quite determined to look into option of getting some plain white ikea drawers and seeing if the joiner can knock a changer together for them. (Unless of course I come accross a spare £350 of course ).

Nettiehay - that's grand, I figured you would know about the car seat stuff, but wasn't sure if the Buggster was 'from birth' so just thought I'd mention it.

Ooh, loving all this shopping chat! Am dragging my MIL to mothercare/mamas and papas this weekend so will no doubt pick up some baby bits and pieces!

BAck on Val Day - got a card from DH this morning and a really nice book but have to get my proper present later apparently! We normally go out, but as its mid week, I'm knackered, and the finances are recovering from our holiday I said we should just stay in.

Anyone got any remedies for back pain? After my painful side yesterday I've woken up with stiff and sore side/back so think I must have pulled something. Its making me very grumpy .

dylansluckymum · 14/02/2008 13:41

ktpie this faces both ways and is on sale, i think end of season. if the colour doesn't bother you, it's exactly what you want.

josey congrats to your ds lol! how old is he?

i've taken ds to dr (chesty cough, but he's fine), gone for groceries, come home and made a new york style cheesecake (dh's favourite) which is cooking now and shortbread dough which is chilling so ds and i can make heart shaped cookies later! i also got icing and lots of sprinkles of course!! i'd def say nesting has begun, last time with ds i was a baking fool!

sophiewd · 14/02/2008 13:59

OK ladies come talk to me about boys, I know this sounds awful but I feel slightly underwhelmed at the thoughty of having a boy this is mainly due to my 2 nephews who are so unbelievably awful and rude (they make Horrid Henry look ready for sainthood) that I struggle to look beyond them and focus on all the lovely boys that I know.

Josie57 · 14/02/2008 14:14

Oh Sophie don't be underwhelmed at having a boy - they are wonderful. My ds is amazingly affectionate - he has just started giving us kisses and if he kisses one person he will always kiss the other parent too even if it means walking right across the room to do it. He is very independent but he has plenty of times where he will just come up to you and give you a big hug for no apparent reason. He's also incredibly happy and I swear he flirts with all the ladies when we go shopping as he is always getting people talking to him and making him laugh. And much as he loves his daddy (squeals when he comes home in the evenings) if he hurts himself it's always his mummy that he comes to for a cuddle to make it better.

I know plenty of boys who have had a strong (but healthy) attachment to their mums as they have grown up. I think they often feel protective towards their mums - now how cute is that?

I'm sure you'll love your little boy to bits when he arrives and if you have anymore you'll probably be like the rest of us wondering what on earth it will/would be like to have a child of the other sex!

Rolf · 14/02/2008 14:25

Sophie, boys are brilliant. They are so cuddly and loving and innocent. And living in the country with a boy will be great fun. All the little boys I've met have loved Thomas the Tank Engine and he is actually pretty fantastic . I know this is all a bit cliched, but my 2 boys are very different and they are both wonderful and both loved trains. And John Lewis has lovely boys' clothes at the moment and their girls' clothes are awful

josey · 14/02/2008 14:26

Sophiewd I went through the exact same but with DD I didnt know what I was having but had this oh god its a girl what do I do with them I only know awful brats while I was left in a darkend ward after giving birth.
Boys are great fun and you will love him to bits I think its a bit of the fear of unknown when we have already had one flavor.

DS is 8.

Have a look at this link they have a big sale on nursery furniture etc I have bought things from them before and there delivery online orders are fantastic
here

sophiewd · 14/02/2008 14:51

Thank you all, felt the same when I they told me that I had a girl last time so obviously totally I am totally irrational. It took an hour for the scan this morning as had to go for a walk to wake him up, seem slike he is going through his teenage years already I have got 3 other lovely nephews its is just these two that have clouded my judgement but know that is totally down to parenting sadly. And with DD refusing to wear skirts and being a huge tomboy (that is whole other issue) looks like we are going to Five Go Mad in Dorset, maybe I will change my name.

systemsaddict · 14/02/2008 14:54

Sophie I felt similar when I discovered ds was a boy - somehow I'd always imagined a girl and couldn't work out what I would do with a boy. Well he is fabulous - SO affectionate, we have so much fun together, I am now thinking how am I going to cope with a girl this time round! Boys are great

katyjo · 14/02/2008 15:04

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

Sophie, boys are great! My ds id nearly 2 and so loving and always full of smiles and cuddles. He was a really easy baby, only cried when he wanted something, stopped when he got it and has generally been a great sleeper. I am worried about having a girl, I don't know anything about girls, but I don't know the sex yet, so probably worrying for no reason!

Kpie - I looked at the Loola, it looked like really good value for money, but then I got dh involved and he was worried about its ' structural integretity'?? I think that's guy speak for 'it's a bit girly'. I used the pram until ds was about 3 months and by that point he was fed up of my ugly mug and really pleased to see the world. Buy what you love, its so nice to have a lovely pram with your first, they are totally impractical and you use them for such a short time, it is definately not money well spent, but its fun so who cares!

bq - I would say the same about the furniture, I bought a really practical chest of draws from ikea, its massive and it was really useful, but I still lust after cute little nursery sets. I would have loved to buy all matching but can't really justify it for the second! Buy what you like to hell with the cost if you can afford it, you'll only do it once!

Can't remember who was talking about being broody, but I have suddenly become really broody and its not like me at all. I keep thinking about decorating the nursery, and whether to have a third child! But most of all I can't wait to meet this baby, last time I was so worried about labour, and the first few sleep deprived weeks I couldn't enjoy it, this time I am determined to learn to relax a lot sooner! To any newbies, that is all you need to do, relax! the rest takes care of itself (well I think so anyway)!

Hope everyone has a lovely night.

ktpie · 14/02/2008 15:33

thanks dylansluckymum, am having a good look at that one, it's nice that it comes with the carry cot rather than that being an optional extra for another £90!
katyjo - I have that problem with my DH, he works in material science and every time we have looked at pushchairs he spends the whole time checking out the structure and the manufacture then when we come out I get a lecture on the ridiculous over engineering of a lot of the frames!

nh101andhertwinbeans · 14/02/2008 15:45

That's good advice katyjo. Can't say I have been too scared though - I think it is because looking after twins is scary enough so the labour and birth bit seems a piece of cake to me. Also I am not worried about whether they are healthy - I am just assuming they are because again all I can focus on is having to look after two babies at the same time!!!

sophiewd · 14/02/2008 16:06

Thanks again all, just goty into mindset of already have DD have all the clothes for another DD, same sort of pregnancy as DD, had name for DD so just got to chnage it all really, had a talk with DH and he felt the same but both feel happy now and looking at boys names, George is top with DH at moment.

ernest · 14/02/2008 16:08

well I've got 3 boys and got everything crossed for a 4th. I hear time & again that boys are so affectionate, and that's certainy true for my 3 gorgeous cherubs. tired to put up a pic of them, but didn't work. doh.

katyjo · 14/02/2008 16:20

That's true nh, I don't knoe why I spent so much time worrying a bout labour it really doesn't last very long and as soon as you hold that little one in your arms it becomes a distant memory! any you'll have two! I know my mum decided she was just being an incubator for the last 3 months of her pregnancy so kept her feet up as often as possible. She decided to hell with that a week before her due date and went out dancing on new years eve, the twins were born on new years day! They were both really healthy, still are 25 now though, so a while ago!

ernest · 14/02/2008 16:37

btw, I went into a fabric shop today, and priced up buying fabric vs. a didymos, and it was similar for one of the basic patterns, so I think after all it's worth it to buy one that's already made and got good reputation for quality and the right amount of weave/stretch/support, and worth that bit extra to get a pattern that you specifically like.
