Good morning all you creme egg lovers ( and those weird ones amongst us who don't appreciate them)

Good luck for all the scans coming up this week, and next.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
calebsmum · 12/02/2008 14:56

Well had my third and final scan today! Definately a girl and we got to see the heart close up and see the blood flowing in and out, was great!

We've told DS from the beginning about his new baby sister and i've took him with me to get clothes and also to all the midwife appointments and scans, he talks about the baby alot but he's also starting getting quite clingy with me and wanting lots of hugs so think he's a little insecure about it all at the moment.

Also thanks to the wonders of freecycle and i'm now the proud owner of a double pushchair for nothing! It's a Cossatto, black and silver and side by side, in next to new condition, also got given loads of beautiful baby girls clothes. Would really recommend freecycle.

Rolf · 12/02/2008 15:09

We had another canversation about names last night that ended up with us sniggering and then falling asleep. This child is going to end up with no name at all.

I'm trying to take the children out- with no luck (hence repeated postings on here). DD has now gone and put her PJs on so no escape any time soon.

Great about your scan and pushchair, Calebsmum. I don't know if I'm going to need one. DD will be 3 in July. I couldn't be without her pushchair at the moment but a lot can happen in 4 months. I have a double pushchair in storage but it's not suitable for newborns. I used a sling with the boys but not with DD as my stomach muscles were too knackered. What to do? Anyway. Bit rambling, sorry - DD squirming on my lap and tiddler squirming in my tum

systemsaddict · 12/02/2008 15:44

I'm worrying about buggies now! Planned to just sling baby and push ds1, but if my joints are giving out now I won't be able to do that for a couple of months. Our house is too small to get a side-by-side double buggy through the doors, and there's nowhere safe or covered in the yard to leave one. We really have NO spare space - have managed OK with a Quinny Zapp in the kitchen so far but even that is pushing it - and I have given up on moving before baby arrives, too much pressure. Does anyone know what the smallest, lightest two-child buggy solution is, suitable for a newborn?

calebsmum · 12/02/2008 15:46

Rolf, we've not agreed on any names yet! DS didn't have a name till he was a day or so old so think we'll just wait until this ones born. DS is 3 in 2wks but still think i'm going to need a double as it's a bit of a walk into town and he's quite lazy

Upsidedownegg · 12/02/2008 16:06

Re buggies, we used to keep our buggy in the carboot when we had a tiny flat. So we'd come out of the flat, go to the car, get in the buggy and then get on the bus!!!! It was ridiculous - particularly as we never used to be able to park outside our front door!

Rolf, we will defiitely be getting a pram. DS is 3 in November. How else will I be able to go shopping?

Upsidedownegg · 12/02/2008 16:07

I mean 'getting a double pram'.

makecakesnotwar · 12/02/2008 16:08

Just back frm the midwives appt...and have to relegate myself to the land of virtual creme eggs, as had trace of sugar in urine. No cakes, no fizzy drinks, no fun eating of any kind for the next 16 weeks...Bugger. Consoling myself that I've been mad busy today, haven't had a chance to drink enough and had a piece of chocolate cake for dessert after lunch, so that might be an explanantion. Off to yoga now to destress, then back to scrubbing the carpet of dog's muddy pawprints- DH f*cking useless....he lets her out and forgets to close the dog gate, so she runs free, he can't catch her to dry her feet and by the time she is caught sh's been traipsing her muddy paws all over the house [steam pours out of MC's ears] Breathe!!!!

systemsaddict · 12/02/2008 16:13

Commiserations makecakes!! Are they getting you to do a glucose tolerance test too? Hope the yoga helps!

Josie57 · 12/02/2008 16:15

Makecakes - I had traces of urine in my wee everytime I was tested during my last pregnancy but I didn't develop gestational diabetes. They did the glucose tolerance test on me and it came up fine and I also tested my blood sugar at home on a daily basis - my father is a diabetic so he lent me a spare machine and some sticks to test with. The conclusion was that my kidneys were leaking sugar but that it wasn't an issue. The good news was that I didn't have to deprive myself of sugary food during my pregnancy If they are concerned you might have diabetes then they ought to do the GTT to make sure, otherwise you could be depriving yourself for nothing. I am not a doctor so please seek further advice but you might be depriving yourself for nothing based on my previous experience.

Josie57 · 12/02/2008 16:17

I found if I had eaten anything sweet prior to the test this made the results worse - i.e toast with jam. But they usually asked me what I had eaten that day and when. I think the concern is if you have got sugar in your wee/blood more than 2 hours after eating a meal or a piece of chocolate cake as this would indicate that the body isn't perhaps dealing with the glucose as it should.

Parofleurmapu · 12/02/2008 16:31

I have my tests tomorrow at 9.15 not allowed to eat or drink anything til its over they take a sample then send me to another room with a bottle of glucose stuff and a magazine and then get me in an hour. They then take some more blood then i can go home and eat!!!! This testing is obligatory over here
Hope its all neg as dont wont to give up sugar!!!

Josie57 · 12/02/2008 16:42

Just to clarify I was talking about eating sweet stuff prior to the wee tests not the GTT which has to be done under controlled conditions so they know what level of glucose you have consumed. Sorry if I was confusing before, it's the baby brain kicking in again

systemsaddict · 12/02/2008 16:48

Last pregnancy I was worried I might have some blood sugar issues so made sure I only ever gave the mw sample done first thing in the morning on empty stomach - couldn't face one more thing to worry about, not v. rational I know but I had a lot going on during pregnancy last time. After a 9 lb 15 baby they are insisting I have a GTT at 28 weeks this time - fingers crossed it comes out OK!

Rolf · 12/02/2008 17:15

I had a couple of dodgy urine readings last time round and whenever I did I'd say "I'm sure that was a false positive", drink a pint of water and repeat the test at the end of the appointment. Worked every time .

bitofadramaqueen · 12/02/2008 19:04

Hi everyone - makecakes, you have my deepest sympathy. I had two creme eggs today . But I haven't had one for about a week and left early today as I felt really rubbish and knackered.

Excuse my first-time thick-ness but what's all this sugar in urine/blood sugar stuff all about. Do they check for sugar levels in urine in all regular mw appointments? I've only had one mw appointment so far so not sure what the norm is. I should take a urine sample to my next appt then? And maybe not have sugar on my cornflakes ?

sophiewd · 12/02/2008 19:10

YOur MW should test your pee at every appointment for us lardy ladies and for Paro who lives abroad where they do it anyway, we get called in for a glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks.

ernest · 12/02/2008 19:16

sophiewd, slightly off topic, but do you do a full english breakfast? I've been dreaming of bacon and fried bread. hmmmm

debinaustria · 12/02/2008 19:17

Dramaqueen, you should always take a urine sample - yes. They test to see if you might be lumbered with gestational diabetes .I have my test on 5th March, like Paro - nothing to eat from midnight the day before. The appointment is at 9.30 and I have to take ds to the speech therapist at 8.30 - I'm going to be really flagging by then!!

So up until a few days before I'm going to make sure I've eaten all the sweet things I fancy just in case.

Buggy from freecycle sounds great, wish they had freecycle here.

bitofadramaqueen · 12/02/2008 19:19

Thanks for that. Good to know.

Really must investigate freecycle too.

debinaustria · 12/02/2008 19:20

MMMM that sounds good Ernest - only another expat would truly understand!!Sophie - you must have a website - give us the link!!

Is anyone else weeing all the time, well not continually but an awful lot more than normal. I know it happens and baby must be pressing down on my bladder but I don't remember experiencing this so early on.

OP posts:
sophiewd · 12/02/2008 19:45

I do full english with fried bread, choice of eggs, or you could have toasted soda farl with bacon and eggs, or the veggie version which is mushrooms instead of bacon, or you could have grilled locally smoked kippers which are my personal favourite. Hope this link works www.burngatefarm.co.uk

sophiewd · 12/02/2008 19:47

Oh and also fresh bread from breadmaker, homemade granola and marmalade. I know what you mean about missing things, when I was in Hungary an expat family I managed to smuggle english sauseages into Budapest, there were lots of drooling expats

Parofleurmapu · 12/02/2008 19:52

MMMMMmmmmmmmmm english bacon and english sausages yum yum

Spanish ones are just not the same bacon is thin and shrivels up!! Sausages are all a la picante (spicy chorizos etc.)

Give me bacon and sausages over creme eggs right now!!!

ernest · 12/02/2008 19:53

do they not do decent sausages in Hungary?

Sophie, next Q then, and this is very important, step by step instructions for the perfect fried bread please
type of bread
type of fat
thickness of bread/texture
heat level.

oh sigh.

ernest · 12/02/2008 19:57

just had a look at your site, looks absolutely lovely. weird you're only half an hour away from my mum (or 3 hours mid summer, bloody caravans (to quote my mum))
