Good morning all you creme egg lovers ( and those weird ones amongst us who don't appreciate them)

Good luck for all the scans coming up this week, and next.

thanks deb i think that's a very good tip. he wants to walk everywhere now so i bought him a little turtle backpack with a lead that i love but i've realised i'll have to bring the pushchair and walk it beside him, there are just times you have to strap them in!

g43 we ended up choosing abel and cole because of the feature of being able to flag up things you don't like. i liked the look of riverford but i think you need at least a little control over what you get! the radicchio is a little red lettuce (they say it's like chicory). i've found a recipe where you fry it in the fat from crispy bacon and use the bacon and it with cold leaves and a homemade salad dressing that looks amazing. also there's a recipe to cook it with pork, peas and pasta that i'm going to try. i'm gagging to try this recipe i found for smoked oyster and jerusalem artichoke soup so that's on the menu tomorrow. if anyone can remember that far back i had a massive smoked oyster craving a few days before i found out i was preggers!

and the cabbage is going to make cabbage rolls - which i made with my mum about 10 years ago or more and forgot existed but they're delicious!! i'm feeling very inspired by that little box actually.

Parofleurmapu · 06/02/2008 18:18

Hello all!

PP poor you i would go and camp out in A and E and refuse to move until someone did something.

I did do something like that today however i wasnt in pain Had to have blood tests for high blood pressure. I got to hospital and there was a massive queue waiting to get a number so you can be called in to have tests(bit like in supermarket everything here is done like this) My paper said 07.59 I got into queue at 07.45 when i got to desk she said sorry youll have to wait over there with the late people. I said ive b*dy been in queue for 15 mins. She just shook her head and did little Britain impression of computer says no!! So i gave her what for using the im 5 months pregnant havent eaten or drank anything since last night if you dont let me in ill pass out!!! Got a number and was seen 2 mins later HEHE oops naughty me!

Oh well more tests next week 2nd trimester blood test and have to drink horrible orange glucose stuff dont think they do that test in Uk do they?

Katyo im annoyed for opposite reasons people keep saying oh you dont look five months you dont look hardly pregnant at all grrrrrr! On good side though ive only gained 4 kilos !

off to make pancakes mix for df to cook as debs reminded me yesterday and now i havr to have them. Anyone else get this as soon as anyone mentions any kind of food? i suddenly have a craving for it !!!

goingfor3 · 06/02/2008 18:18

The bacon with radicchio sounds really good. I do remeber you talking about smoked oysters as I had never heard of them before you mentioned them. I sometimes make cabbage rolls with mince in the middle and cook them in tomato sauce, I haven't done that for ages thoug it is very nice.

makecakesnotwar · 06/02/2008 18:20

I have a very important question to ask, and it has nothing to do with organic veg boxes...apologies in advance if TMI

I am considering waxing....I've never had anything other than my eyebrows waxed before, and a friend has told me that pregnancy is not the time to start but, how shall I put it? I have issues with hairy nether regions (mine specifically), and have been shaving it all off for years . Now I can't see and am well on my way to not being able to reach, so the question becomes do I just leave it as it is, or do I find an alternative. Have any of you any experience of this kind of waxing, and have you had it whilst pregnant?

So sorry, but if I can't ask here, where can I ask?? Have I unalterably changed the nature of our relationship?

goingfor3 · 06/02/2008 18:24

Oh Parofleurmapu that horrble glucose drink test! I'm supposed to have it at 28 because I'm so fat so at risk for gestational diabetes. I know it sounds really irresponsible but I really don't want to do it as it means sitting in the horrible blood testing department for 3 hours and it's always really packed and it's very cramped. I will try not to have it unless I have any problems which may lead me to belive I'm at risk though at the 20 scan I was asked if I had GD as the baby was already big!

When is everyone having midwife appointments? I was supposed to have one this week, 24 weeks, but as I have a scan next week epu told me not to bother, and my next one should be at 28 weeks when I think they do some more blood tests or am I mistaken about the blood tests as I only remeber haiving them in the first trimester in previous pregnancies.

goingfor3 · 06/02/2008 18:26

makecakesnotwar lol at your post! WHy don't you ask dp to give you a hand. I think the area is more sensitive in pregnancy but there is no reason not to do it.

debinaustria · 06/02/2008 18:32

Makecakes - you've certainly crossed a threshold with that question!!

Unfortunately I have no advice other than don't let your dh do it!! It's not something that particularly bothers me and even less so in pregnancy

OP posts:
Parofleurmapu · 06/02/2008 18:43

I agree with letting dh do it ive already told my df that he will be !!! At mo can still just about reach so alls well

going for 3 Everybody here has to do it in 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester!!! it is very yucky!!

sophiewd · 06/02/2008 19:21

Get DH to do it

I have to do that test as well at 28 weeks but they can do it at my GP's surgery so 5 mins drive and no parking fees as opposed to 3o mins extortionate parking fees and can't find a parking place in the first place.

As to midwife appointments I have one very 4 weeks that is standard with our MW regardless which number baby you are on.

Oh as regards parking fees and hospital check on your maternity ward, ours have a parking ticket that you can put in your car which gives you 24 hours free parking, DH just held on to it and used it during visiting hours.

dylansluckymum · 06/02/2008 19:23

okay i know this is TMI but here goes! Parofleurmapu i went through that with ds and hated being so hairy (not to mention even more hairy than usual cause of hormones). i called it my 70s porn bush and eventually just had to live with it. i thought the midwives are very used to seeing women that haven't seen down there for months so it can't be that big a deal!

but this time i wanted to avoid that so started waxing as soon as i found out i was pregnant. i managed to go 3 times and by then i was just like, screw it, it just hurts way too much and i had terrible ingrown hairs that i couldn't exfoliate properly (again not being able to reach very well). i suppose it depends on your pain threshold and how much you really hate the hair... but it just wasn't for me.

dylansluckymum · 06/02/2008 19:24

oh sorry to shock you Parofleurmapu it was makecakesnotwar i was trying to fill in on the low down!

Upsidedownegg · 06/02/2008 20:10

Paro, yuk, I didn't have to do the glucose test this time, but did last time. Very well done for fighting with the hospital queue. I always thought the Spanish (or the Murcians, anyway, which is where I lived in the mid 90s) were much worse than the Brits for 'computer says no'!

Make cakes, waxing ... while we're sharing, I found that nothing (not armpits, not legs, not anything) needed any attention while I was breastfeeding. It was the freakiest thing. It happened to other friends too. So if you are planning on feeding your dc, I would wait and wax at 9 months pg and then you could be smooth as a baby for the next 6 months after that!

Dylansmummy, glad you're enjoying your box. Let us know how it all tastes.

pyjamarama · 06/02/2008 20:23

Hello all,

Pregnantpenguin wisdom teeth can be utter misery. What antibiotics are you on? It sounds like the only thing that will fix them is to have them out(I used to be a dentist but am now a doctor). If you have no joy with the dental department, you could maybe try going to A&E, but check that hospital has a maxillofacial surgery department, as the A*E doctors will be clueless. The surgeons may not be able to help, but if you see someone sympathetic they may be able to get you a quick appointment to have them removed.

Re: waxing iused to go religiously pre pregnancy, but have turned into a bit of a hairy hippy, also I can't see down there anymore, so don't care!

bitofadramaqueen · 06/02/2008 21:04

wisdom teeth and waxing your bits... we've come a long way from creme eggs!!

penguin - glad you're getting sorted. Pyjamarama you might wish that you'd never outed yourself as a doc

Makecakes - I'm with those who say, ahem, let it grow free during pregnancy. We've enough to worry about without that. I would agree that pregnancy isn't the time to start waxing your nether regions (its painful enough at the best of times) but if you feel you can grin and bear it I'd recommend a paracetemol about half hour before! I love my DH but I wouldn't let him anywhere near with a razor !!!!!

veggie box folk - you could start a thread for fellow minded veggie box users to share recipes for the wierd and wonderful veggies you get in the box. I'm sure there are tons of like minded MNetters!

bitofadramaqueen · 06/02/2008 21:05

Oh, I've also just paid the best part of £50 for a wire free bra (with matching pants) .

Upsidedownegg · 06/02/2008 21:21

Can I ask your advice, ladies? I've started a thread in the Religion topic about godparents. I'd be keen to know your views.

ChinaSurprise · 06/02/2008 22:12

Makescakes - waxing down below is v painful in my experience and if you're not used to it I wonder whether now is the time to start.
Again, sorry for tmi, but have you seen those, ahem, special leccy razors? Kind of like hair clippers but smaller - if you're growing out of control you can at least reduce the amount, without having to try shaving close to skin which you can't see. They've got different settings and basically thin and cut the hair without giving you a close shave.
Might be a good compromise?
I have got this one - you can take it into the shower.
Ok, now everyone pretend I didn't just write all that!

sophiewd · 06/02/2008 22:13

Read that one and added abit about catholic godparents, I think you would need to approach your priest and ask what the protocol for having a jewish godparent, if she says no then perhaps you could ask your friend to be a godparent without going through the ceremony (I am one as am a replacement godparent so is my mother) if she says yes then you would need to approach your friend and ask him how he would feel about it. He is obviously an important person in your lives and you want him to play an important part in your baby's life.

Upsidedownegg · 06/02/2008 22:29

Thanks Sophie, Dramaqueen and China on religion thread. We've had a pretty good debate all evening.

Sleep well, everyone.

debinaustria · 07/02/2008 06:29

Morning ladies, feeling very sad here thinking about Littlemy, what she'll be going through today and the dreadful decision she had to make. It really puts all our pregnancy worries into perspective doesn't it?

OP posts:
debinaustria · 07/02/2008 06:29

Also PP good luck with the scan and the dentist.

OP posts:
Rolf · 07/02/2008 08:04

PregnantPenguin - so sorry about your poor teeth. Toothache is excruciating enough at the best of times, but combined with pregnancy, you must be thoroughly miserable. I hope things improve soon.

Lots of talk of big families here! I live in Catholic Central so there are lots of big families here. But I think my poor body will have had enough. DH is really really crap with babies too . Ernest - it sounds as though your DH and mine come from a similar stable!

Deb - the only 3-wheeler listed in the Best Buys was the Quinny Speedi SK - that's one you were interested in, isn't it?
The MaxiCosi Cabriofix is highly rated - is that the one you meant? It says that it gets the high score with the Easyfix (Isofix) fitting so (so it says) if your car doesn't have that then look for another one.

hth

Rolf · 07/02/2008 08:15

Oh, NH101 - I've just shown DH the photo on your profile and apparently your DH instructs him . Small world!

makecakesnotwar · 07/02/2008 08:16

Morning!

PP- hope you get a result today with the dentists!

Thanks for your advice re:my boundary-crossing topic everyone...hope I didn't offend you too much!

Off for my scan now, and have physio referral later. Eeek! Will keep you posted.

ernest · 07/02/2008 08:32

Ok, usdc, not read your other thread, but from my understanding (and I've had 3 children baptised in the Catholic Church), they God parent must be 'at least' christian, if not Catholic. A non-Christian cannot be officially a God parent in the Catholic Church. If you really want your Jewish friend, then by all means ask them, but they'd be 'unofficial' as it were.

To be honest, mine are all a huge disappointment and clearly don't think it's at all important It's taken much more seriously here in Switzerland, a Götti takes their role very seriously. All my UK ones (including my aunty, who's a nun!) barely keep in touch.
