22 litres of diesel caught in a bucket, and still counting. I'm going to smell for weeks....

scorpio1 · 07/02/2008 12:50

goodness! is there not a way you can get it to stop?? you cant do that all night!

sagitta · 07/02/2008 12:52

I'm hoping it will stop once the tank gets down past the leak - which is quite near the top. Otherwise, I just bought 878 litres so it's going to be a long night...

Sheds75 · 07/02/2008 12:54

yum, just had a Big Mac and large fries for lunch.......................

velbels · 07/02/2008 12:57

oh dear Sagitta I REALLY hope the leak stops soon.

Went with the veg lasagne, while watching a home birth DVD (yes, i probably am strange!)

sagitta · 07/02/2008 12:59

yum to veg lasagne, yuk to home birth DVD was it awful?

I've lost my appetite 'cos I smell so bad

VictorianSqualor · 07/02/2008 13:05

I've sent DD to the shop, for a pasty
Am taking her back to the docs tomorrow cos I cant decide if her head is getting better or not, to me it looks like it's not getting worse, but not getting better, and that aint good enough!

Crikey sagitta! You must smell like a trucker, Spose at least you can catch it, we thought our calor tank was leaking the other day and there wouldve been nothing we could do!

Scorpio, you get tax credits dont you?? DO you get help for funding for your fegree and/or childcare?

sagitta · 07/02/2008 13:13

Ooh, it'll be great when DD is old enough to go and buy me pasties! But sorry to hear DD's head not better yet, VS
LOL about trucker - and if I have to go down the ladder many more times I'll have sweat mixed in with diesel, like a true trucker! Nice...But as you say, better than gas, which is a fecker to catch...

northeastmummy · 07/02/2008 13:51

Yikes sagitta - that's a nightmare! I hope it stops soon!!

scorpio1 · 07/02/2008 13:56

VS - yes we get child tax credits and yes, i get help with my degree.

i get a mixture of a grant and a loan, paid 3 times a year. i also get my tuition fees paid via a loan. All are income assessed ,i dont get that much though becuase DH earns well. i dont qualify for a childcare grant though - my friend did, again income assessed. this is if you study at a full time status, PT had different ruling. if you want to know amounts so you may have something to compare to i can email you?

Why? [nosey] you going to do one?

VictorianSqualor · 07/02/2008 14:02

I've been thinking about, we get WTC and CTC at the moment and will do for the foreseeable future, I was considering going back to work after LO is born, but both DP and I think it's pretty pointless if we're not going to gain anything from it and someone mentioned doing my degree instead, I'd probably do full-time though, if I would get childcare help, I was going to do my degree with OU but dont see the point if it's going to cost more than actually going to uni.

So just need to know roughly what it would cost us so we could get the ball rolling so to speak, Have no idea who to talk to though.

scorpio1 · 07/02/2008 14:07

i personally think its easier to go to uni, my uni course is only 2 days a week, most FT degrees are, plus is nice to get out of the house etc.

you need to apply through UCAS but you are too late for Sept 08 start. you can apply to start Sept 09 from the beginning of Sept 08.

you will need to, closer to the end of this year, contact student finance direct for application forms. on-line website can help.

my uni charges £3000 a year for my course, but i get that paid in a loan to me, which i will pay back @ £5p/w once i earn over £15k, straight from wages.

Most unis etc have nurseries on site for your baby to go to, etc.

then after those costs it is relatively cheap - i dont buy books becuase our library is well stocked and use journals alot. travel costs are minimal too, as i car share.

scorpio1 · 07/02/2008 14:08

i dont think you get any financial help from the OU or any source for doing it from home? maybe post in student parents to ask?

VictorianSqualor · 07/02/2008 14:11

Maybe our uni is different, but it says on the website I can still apply for sept 08 start?
I'll fill out the forms and take it from there I suppose!

I did plan on going to uni just before I moved in with DP but we moved cities or I'd be two years into my course now, and with them I literally called the uni about a week before the course started and was lucky they still had some places available, maybe thats why this course is still open? Places left?

VictorianSqualor · 07/02/2008 14:12

Nah you can't not unless you're a loan parent and then you can try and get sponsorship etc, but I think actual on-site is better for me.

scorpio1 · 07/02/2008 14:12

ahh yes maybe VS. i had to get through 400 people for 30 places for mine!

what is it?

scorpio1 · 07/02/2008 14:14

see i was debating if i should go back in sept 08 or 09....dont know if i could cope with 08? may be nice to have a year out but im not used to staying at home with children.

VictorianSqualor · 07/02/2008 14:15

BA English, FWIW, I did my access course at college whilst pg with Ds and then whilst he was newborn, It was a lot easier than I thought, I used to feed him at 3am whilst doing algebra

scorpio1 · 07/02/2008 14:17

lol @ 3am homework!

give it a go, its hard to tell now how/if we will cope!!

Sheds75 · 07/02/2008 14:29

VS, sounds like an excellent plan, even if you have missed the main applications you should still be abel to go through Clearing later in the year.

Peachy · 07/02/2008 14:44

VS, Like Scorpio I get a grant and loan but Dh doesn't earn amssively so I get 80% of my childcare paid and we also get DLA which emans we get extra on the tax credits- bizarrelya s a student its the first time we've been- not comfortable, but able to cope with things like imploding cars (gah!- head gasket), and the like, and we are debt free (not counting student debt which i refuse to acknowledge!). In total, with childcare grant I get around £9k a year, although about half is repayable.

Don't need a transfusion- yey! irona ctually creeping up. Don't know why i've been passing out though or having stomach pains so could be a bug I guess? Hope so.

Peachy · 07/02/2008 14:45

Oh and VS.... I applied for my degree in March as I manged to complete a part time access in half the ascribed time (not sure how!). I got an offer from every institution I applied for (the maximum 6), including one Russeell group Uni. So worth applying- but do it ASAP as English can be quite a popular choice.

VictorianSqualor · 07/02/2008 14:58

Okay, I'm on UCAS applying now!

sagitta · 07/02/2008 15:02

VS - that sounds exciting! Hope you get a place and cash and it all works out.
Diesel has stopped leaking after two long hours For some reason I am mad with DH, but can't think of why I can blame him. So I'm just going to leave the clearing up for him (diesel fumes and ladders must be bad for LO, don't you think?)

VictorianSqualor · 07/02/2008 15:09
