Here we are!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
paranoidmummy · 04/02/2008 12:25

that's really encouraging about your friend scorpio, nice to know if something does happen that baby could be ok. fingers crossed it will stay put though! i'm 31 weeks going by the nhs. by any of the private scans i have always measured further along so v possible i could be more like 32+ weeks (had a miscarriage prior to this preg and so never got a date from my lmp!) i like to be difficult!

scorpio1 · 04/02/2008 13:00

i wouldn't worry PM, you will be fine and so will your baby

TLSM · 04/02/2008 13:03

Paranoid if they have let you home it would suggest they are not too worried! which can only be a good thing

Well saw the Midwife this morning and it turns out bubba is transverse rather than breech and he is measuring massive for dates! I am 28+2 he is measuring 34!!!! oh joy i have my GTT test on Thursday! Also the midwife said that my belly is all baby and see can see i have lost weight me wise (if that makes sense) she said that because he is big he is all ready running out of room!

Scampmum · 04/02/2008 13:04

Rainbowdays - mainly motherease airflow velcro (and popper but much less adjustable) but after solids (i.e. poo not so runny!) got some more - liked the TotsBots one, hated Stacinator and a crappy one that looked like incontinence pants.

Paranoidmummy, maybe talk to your work. If you have contracted sick pay it will depend on how much they would give anyone who wasn't pregnant (i.e. you'll get that) and was off long-term sick. Otherwise you would get SSP (statutory sick pay - look at the govt website) until 36 weeks, when your mat leave will be automatically triggered (so you'll definitely miss out on two weeks of pay, though you might save it on transport costs etc. in the interim?). I think it's worth talking to HR - did the hospital talk about signing you off work? It always feels horrible having to choose between money and your child - real head/heart thing.

Peachy · 04/02/2008 13:31

Can you just do that on your course Scorpio? if we're literally an hour over the dealine we have to appeal to a panel or it gets disallowed- was 10 days late with one, and still waiting to heat, they wouldn't even hear it without a letter from MW etc. Really narked me actually as one chap just got his GP to write a letter saying he'd broken up with his boyfriend of a week and they allowed that . if its not allowed at panel, I have to accept a reductin in overall grade- you cant just stretch it out. A deferment is a whole new panel system, and PG isn't an adequate reason (although student services tell me ds3's dx would be). Apparently i'd just be better off failing my finals and resitting the year

paranoidmummy · 04/02/2008 13:31

thanks so much everyone for your kind words and advice. touch wood, had no more leakage (ewww) today so i suppose i should relax, see how it goes with my dopey midwife tmorrow and then take it from there with work. i'll see what they think is best - doubt they will want me if i'm considered a risk but midwife may say all looks ok. suppose i'm in limbo at the moment really! i think either way i will plan to leave work a couple of weeks earlier - feel like 38 weeks may be pushing it (whats the betting i go 42 plus weeks now?!)

Peachy · 04/02/2008 13:34

rainbowdays, if its just a wrap and you like velcro maybe get some totsbots then? All the reviews on this thread are positive, and the fleece is nice and soft which makes them esp. nice for littlies I think

LadyVictorianSqualor · 04/02/2008 13:39

Hmmm, Not sure whetehr it was good or bad result at the gps.

Was quite pleased that my 'emergency' appointment was actually referred over to my own doctor rather than one on call so I got to see my own GP who actually knows me and the DC's.

He said its not ringworm, almost definitely not, it's a streptococcal infection he thinks, but can't be sure, Apparently there is not point in doing a skinscrape or giving anti-fungals unless it is fungal, but it's apparently bacterial, so I didnt get a skin scrape/anti-f's.

What he has said though is that DS's has cleared up, although it still is red and has no hair he said there is no infection there, just scar tissue and the hair is probably going to grow back, it's just that hair grows in cycles so could take a few months.

He has given DD some extra strong anti-b's which he said if they havent started to work by thursday I am to call up and tell them he wants to see her straight away so they will fit her in and take her straight back, to avoid the whole palava we had with DS and hopefully avoid losing any hair (it's thinning atm but not falling out in clumps).

Thing is it's the same anti-b's DS had and he had two lots of extra strength, that did fuck all, so I reckon we'll be back thursday. He said he has to give her them though as a first treatment incase they do work, but said no point bothering with the weaker ones as we dont have the time to faff around.

She isn't to go to school all this week, and maybe not next week! Then she'll be off for half term So could end up with ehr home for THREE weeks, her teacher is calling me back this afternoon to see if there is any work she can send home and we bought some work books in town so at least her brain wont turn to mush. Weird considering we were discussing home ed last night!

paranoidmummy try not to worry, a friend of mines waters broke early and she ended up going full term, as everyone has alreaedy said they can fix themselves, plus the hospital wouldnt have sent you home if they were worried.

Peachy · 04/02/2008 13:59

PMS- another one here with a mate whsoe waters went early (29 weeks) adn went full term, please don't worry too much. DOn't think you should be in work though- stress affects your immune system and the biggest risk from ERM (early rupture membranes) is an infection.

VS- hope itnworks this time! If ts scar tissue bung on lots of vitamin e cream and lavender oil, help it heal much faster.

Am shattered. have woken up the last few mornings feeling really parched- at about 5am! been drinking far more than normal though so annoying, haven't been able to re-settle after that. A right PITA. On the up side my nappy bag arrived today which is good, after a 9am 4 hour lecture on Buddhist philosophy I needed cheering up! Even the class brainboxes couldn't get it, I had no hope- all I could think of was my bed!

Scampmum · 04/02/2008 14:03

How frustrating - I guess it is worth trying the antibiotics but annoying when you know they didn't work on DS. I suppose it may be the same skin irritation but a different infection? In which case they may work better on DD. Hate giving/taking antibiotics but anything's better than losing hair. Feed her lots of live yoghurt whilst she's on them! Oooh maybe you could try yoghurt on her head as well - it's supposed to work for thrush, isn't it?

Scampmum · 04/02/2008 14:05

Just thinking about sitting with cold yoghurt on scalp reminds me of those awful hours standing shivering in the bathroom with stinky Prioderm all over my head!

Peachy · 04/02/2008 14:05

Live yoghurt after- the AB's will just kill them off until then. Holland and barratt do fruit flavoured prebiotics )DS1 has them as part of his program) that are excellent post- AB's as well.

scorpio1 · 04/02/2008 14:56

Peachy - i have to apply for extra time but my pg and other circumstances and letter from MW will mean they will grant me until August instead of June to complete.

I have already deferred my placements because i cant cope with them and uni and pg and CW!! that will then mean i cant graduate until i hand in my work portfolio, so i will graduate in August 2009 iyswim? i expect i will complete my placements in a years time. only got 20 days to do anyway.

northeastmummy · 04/02/2008 15:30

Just been having a catch up - goodness everyone ... LOOK AFTER YOURSELVES!

scorpio1 · 04/02/2008 15:32

ooh peachy link to bag please!

Peachy · 04/02/2008 15:54

bag

changing mat is lovely and soft!

I ws looking at my shopping and waster addiction on another hread- I'm going have to make sure my MW tests for GD on wednesday aren't I? , she put my sample was normal in my notes last time but I was watchinga nd she never actually tested it at all.

And this LO is howing signs of being one big pappa....

PortAndLemon · 04/02/2008 16:16

I've never failed a urine sugar test, or a random blood sugar test, or even come close to it, and I have GD. After eating white rice sent my blood sugar a bit loopy at the weekend I'm forced to admit that I do have it, too (diet has kept my levels beautifully stable and generally wonderful up to now, so I was half-beginning to think it was All A Big Mistake).

Peachy · 04/02/2008 16:19

How did they spot it then? I've gone from never, ever drinking water to needing six or seven bottles a day, waking in the early hours completely desperate fro water, the lot- maybe nothing but I willa sk her. Fortunately MW coming here this week, so will have more of a chance for a one to one chat.

Dh is concerned because of baby size- gone from needing to be signed off at 30 weeks latest every pg to my-maternity-clothes-won't -go-over-my-bu,p huge, friend todaya ssumed I was due now- still 8 weeks to go!

probably just fat. Shoudl book my weightwatchers return ready

EllieG · 04/02/2008 16:32

Gosh - just looked at all the posts from today and we're all past the blooming stage aren't we? Is all getting a bit 3rd trimester-ish and serious!

paranoidmummy - haven't got a clue about water leaking but what everyone else has said sounds very sensible. Take it easy though OK? Nothing is worth getting all stressed out for and risking your health. Though I do understand about mat leave, I really need to leave mine as late as possible for finances etc but sometimes I think you just have to accept your body and your baby have different priorities to you!

Glad you got to see the sensible doc VS and that she is taking DD's infection seriously.

EllieG · 04/02/2008 16:34

Is anyone else REALLY bloody bored of their maternity clothes? I can't wait to be out of mine. Keep wanting to buy more but obviously stupid to do that for 10 weeks wear but I HATE them with a passion now.

OP posts:
PortAndLemon · 04/02/2008 16:35

I was referred for the GTT because DS was a big baby (possibly also because I'm overweight... looking at NICE guidelines, they are supposed to refer you if you have two or more risk factors rather than just one). Then you have to fast for 12 hours, give one blood sample, drink a measured amount of glucose solution, not eat anything else for two hours and give another blood sample. The first blood sample should be between 4.0 mmol/L and 6.0 mmol/L (I was fine on that bit) and the second sample should be under 7.8 mmol/L (mine was 8.2).

Risk factors:
? BMI > 30
? previous macrosomic baby
? previous gestational diabetes
? family history of diabetes (first-degree relative with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes)
? high-risk ethnic group, which would include
− South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi)
− Black Carribean
− Chinese.

PortAndLemon · 04/02/2008 16:46

I did just buy a new pair of smart trousers, but that'll be it unless I grow out of things in the last couple of weeks.

EllieG · 04/02/2008 16:50

I have plenty of smart things, it's casual wear I'm short of. Haven't bothered to buy much of that cos most of life is spent at work it seems and at weekends I either look a bit overdressed or horribly frumpy in trackie bums.

OP posts:
LadyVictorianSqualor · 04/02/2008 17:02

Ellie, I was just on a thread about leopard skin, until then I ahdnt realised how much I miss stilettos and silky tops and tight jeans and skirts and nice tights and wrap dresses and knee high boots and oh just clothes!

scorpio1 · 04/02/2008 18:51

i have tons of maternity clothes but i do plan to ebay them after, should get a bit for them as they are mostly next and crave maternity.

i miss skinny jeans and little tops and short skirts and hotpants.

i do have maternity jeans that are skinny but wearing with maternity top is not the same as skimpy tee. i have size 6 hotpants from before waiting for me - PMSL

cannot wait to get back to normal size and increase my hugge wardrobe some more!!
