Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Well DD getting quicker, that trip to the shops done in record time. DS fell asleep on way back so now in bed with no lunch - ho hum.

On the whole i dont mind the whole shift thing, a few evenings of the month I get to mooch around and do nothing without feeling guilty, its just when nights fall over the weekend, as you say Peachy trying to keep DC downstairs and quite. Normally go out somewhere during the am so less chance of waking him but some days just cant be arsed to get everyone up and out.

Who's DP/DH just joining the police, they have all this joy to come

LadyVictorianSqualor · 03/02/2008 13:10

It's my DP that is hoping to get into the police force, he's nervous as hell at the moment though and crapping himself over the assessment centre, everything he reads tells him something different!

I'm really pissed off, DD's head is getting worse, have called the out-of-hours doctors who said they couldnt prescribe anything but have looked up a million places and both DD&DS need some oral antifungals which can only be prescribed. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I'm dreading DD's hair falling out like DC's has, he has a horrid bald patch which apparently will not go until he gets the anti-fungals either and the creams are just killing the spores on the outside of their heads not the actual infection.

Denny185 · 03/02/2008 13:21

Thats prob because each force has slightly diff requirements, has he contacted HR for job specs for the force he's applying to?

Your poor DC, thats been going on a while now hasnt it, do u think out of hours gp wouldnt prescribe as saw as non urgent? Will you take them to your own Gp next week? Maybe with some of your evidence printed out?

LadyVictorianSqualor · 03/02/2008 13:27

I'm keeping her off school tomorrow and forcing my way in to see my GP. I know if we can see him, he'll fix it, he's great, it's just a case of getting to see him.

DP has had his competencies and stuff explained, so he knows what is wanted from him, it's just the role plays at the A/C he is a bit unsure of. I'm sure he'll be fine, it's just that he really wants it so is more worried about not passing iyswim.

Denny185 · 03/02/2008 13:35

I think the role plays are the worst bit (according to DH) as there is v little you can do to prepare for them. He did his sargeants (think Ive spelt that wrong?!?!) last year and bricked it at these - thats with nearly 10 years experience. Hope he goes ok. And hope you go ok at getting a Gp appointment tomorrow.

Peachy · 03/02/2008 20:57

Oh someone asked aboput nappies didnt they? Sorry!

Totsbots were great, especially the fleece ones. Dh in aprticular loved those. I would say my ideal was to use those at night and in the day i found nature babies stuffables were great- I stuffed with a pad folded terry nappy, cheap and easy.

Flame on here has a nappy shop and gives great advice- if you search for bumfluff in traders it brings it up, will grab a link

Peachy · 03/02/2008 20:58

the link here

Scampmum · 03/02/2008 21:04

Anyone still around? Sorry to hear about your shitty morning Denny, and VS's daughter's head. Do you have any doctor friends you can ask? I think anti-fungals are quite generic so maybe you could give her a bit of an oral canesten? Obviously wouldn't do it without the go-ahead from a doc, though... just I know for us it could be two weeks before we get an appointment .

DD just bit my finger so hard that I cried! I was screaming and this she found hysterically funny and it just made her bite harder. DH came and told her off but I'm not sure she was very repentant. I stopped crying and put her to bed (we were on the way up the stairs and she put carpet fluff in her mouth when she did it) as I didn't want her to think I was bearing a grudge. How can we make sure she doesn't do it again? She kept saying 'Mummy crying, Mummy sad' and trying to hug me but she wouldn't say sorry.

Had good mw appointment on Sat am (finally! she was pretty contrite about me not being seen until 28+1!) although she made me look like a heroin addict by cocking up the blood test so I now have a huge bruise and actual lump on my left arm. She seemed unperturbed about my contractions and stuff but I'm now getting quite serious Braxton Hicks when I walk ANYWHERE (e.g. from car to house). Think I will make appointment to see GP asap (maybe this week if I'm lucky as they seem to give preg women priority) and try and get signed off. It's just not worth it and I don't want to spend the rest of the pregnancy feeling panicky about going into labour.

Does anyone know how it works with pay etc. if I get signed off sick? I know if I did any time from 36 weeks mat leave would automatically be triggered but I'll be on leave by then anyway (34+6).

LadyVictorianSqualor · 03/02/2008 21:09

Dont know much about mat leave tbh scampmum, how old is DD? DS used to head but me so hard it hurt and just not really understand.
Took DD and DS to docs earlier, DP called tback and demanded to see someone, so the nuse saw us, but even though we were in the next room and the nurse went and asked the docs opinion the doc still wouldnt have a look, fuckers.
Anyway we've been advised to keep DD off school and call docs tomorrow saying that the ehad nurse said we need an appntmnt straight away and a dermatologist referal and to just be really insistent on the fact that a 7yr old girl losing ehr hair could have serious implications.

Peachy · 03/02/2008 21:17

scampmum, I've been in the same situation with crmaps if I walk for several weeks now- i try nt to walk if at all possible but have to sometimes. It's unlikely it will trigger anything but it is a sign you need to take it easy- when it happens to me its a sign I need a sgood sit down and for Dh to do the school run.

Have a look on the ACAS website for amternity rules- bang up to date and covers them all.

chipmonkey · 03/02/2008 21:23

Oh, VS, your poor dd and ds!That sounds like a horrible thing to have!
Sorry Scampmum, haven't a clue how sick pay works in the UK!
Re nappies, also a big fan of tots bots here, they virtually never leak but for nursery I stick to pocket nappies as they are very like dispoables to put on and off so don't have to instruct staff re nappies and wraps etc. I use fuzzi bunz pockets which I love, have had some of the same ones for ds3 for over 2 years and he's just grown out of them! Bumgenius seemed like a great idea when I first got them but I have found the elastics seemed to go on them very quickly.

TLSM · 03/02/2008 21:39

Hi All LVS oh gosh I really hope you get to see the doctors tomorrow they seem like right buggers!

Had my 4d scan yesterday have added a pic only thing turns out my little man is breech! but I am only 28 weeks so I am hoping he will turn although I said to my DH on Friday I thought he was breech as for the last few weeks I have felt like I am being kicked really low and have a hard lump to the left under my rips - turns out thats his head! well have a midwife appointment tomorrow so will let her know then I have a growth scan at 34 weeks so hopefully the bugger will have turned!

Scampmum · 03/02/2008 21:42

Thanks, ladies! Will have a look on the ACAS site. I have been surfing and I think it prob depends on my contract so will check tomorrow. There's quite a bit of walking in my commute/nursery run, unfortunately - I can cut some of it out (by getting in later and leaving earlier) but not all, minimum I can walk a day probably adds up to two miles (over an hour these days with my pathetic SPD pigeon steps!). I shouldn't get freaked out by the BH, I know, but I just am. I think the whole sort of 'insecurity' aspect of the SPD (i.e. often feels like legs are falling off/innards are about to prolapse/baby is about to come out) is making me nervous about the contraction sensation. Plus I never had them this early last time and I don't remember them being so uncomfortable (not painful, though - big swollen fingers aside I have quite a high pain threshold in general). Knowing that cone biopsy can make cervix incompetent is also another nagging concern (thought not so much once you'd carried one baby to full term, but doc said cervix can be weakened by childbirth). Gah! Wish I could just relax about everything and be a nice, calm, serene pregnant lady.

Oh, and for disclosure purposes I think I should mitigate my Friday lunch smugness by telling you all that for dinner that night I had a bowl of spag bol, a bowl of salad (OK so far) a hot cross bun and a whole tub of Haagen Dazs! Must have been my body crying out for calcium (ahem).

Scampmum · 03/02/2008 21:43

and VS, DD is 21 months. She stopped headbutting me about a month or two ago, thank god. My nose (broken four times anyway - I'm clumsy and unlucky) definitely got a bit more lumpy during that phase!!

Mollyfloss · 03/02/2008 22:25

Thanks for all advice on baby clothes and the hospital. Here's another daft question, what exactly do Braxton hicks feel like? I've had no cramps at all, baby just kicks away all the time. I don't even get that tired, only a bit of lower back pain when I walk a lot and that's it... I'm 30 weeks today, only 10 to go...!

LadyVictorianSqualor · 03/02/2008 22:28

Your belly goes all tight, like a contraction, but contractions are painful.
I get them most if I've had sex, literally as soon as the crucial moment is over

Peachy · 03/02/2008 22:28

Some people never get BH, some never feel them- but basically your whole bump goes really tight and it can make you gasp a bit for breath. Can be a bit uncomfrotable- they say if its painful see your MW (though only if between 9.30 and 12 on a Wednesday if its mine..... ), but I do find they can be if youre tired or stressed.

Mollyfloss · 03/02/2008 22:30

Hmm, I haven't had any of them... should I be feeling them at 30 weeks?

LadyVictorianSqualor · 03/02/2008 22:31

Nah, it's fine if you dont feel them, you may even have them and not notice, I dont always notice mine.

scorpio1 · 03/02/2008 22:32

i have had what feels like 50 000 tonight.

dont worry if you cant feel them, doesnt mean they arent there!!

Mollyfloss · 03/02/2008 22:55

On the other hand this baby kicks a lot!!!

SuzeM · 04/02/2008 08:21

Rainbowdays, I know that hotel, it has great views. We don't go to Galway as much as we should, esp. since Aer Lingus cancelled their Heathrow to Shannon flights. I go to Dublin a lot as my family are there. I'll take the baby to Galway in the summer though so she can meet her great-grandmother and cousins.

I have my first midwife appointment this morning since 12 weeks.

TLSM · 04/02/2008 09:04

Morning All

Molly I wouldnt worry I didnt feel any with my first DS although I am feeling them with this one but I have only had a few! Thanks for your advise reasurance regarding the breech thing I am a natrual worrier and so do not want a CS!

Sheds75 · 04/02/2008 09:09

wow what a busy weekend.... so good advise on the hospital bag stuff, most needed here

I had a terrible Friday night, really bad cramps across my bump, they seemed relentless for over 3 hours, finally got to sleep and they were gone on Sat, should I be concerned or is this ok??

scorpio1 · 04/02/2008 09:43

she thinks just had first appt with SENCO - she thinks there are dyspraxic issues too.
