at the list and my name disappearing! Yes, yes, I know I have been an absent April '08-er lately but am still gonna cry into my strawberry smoothie ... will rectify forthwith!

Hope all are well - never have time to do a proper catch up as RL seems to take over (how dare it!! LOL).

Am dreaming LOTS at the moment and usually about toilets and not being able to find one (then I wake up and find I need to go ... happens a few times a night) - rather amusing all the toilet scenarios one can dream up!

Peachy - I was looking at a sling link you did the other week (before computer crashed etc)but can't find it again - could you link again please if you get a moment. tia.

Well - off to do the list and hope to be back soon for a chat!

Well i am fine now , i have just rang Mum and borrowed the money i need from them until i get my next lot of student money in April. (thats how DH is having 2 weeks off as well - no paternity pay cos he is self employed). At least i have that eh!! It will and already has freed up some petty cash and most of all my brain. My parents are always there money wise - i know i am very lucky. this is the first time i have borrowed from them for years though! my poor parents though - they should start charging interest, my friends have borrowed from them too recently. they dont mind though ,nobody helped them and they are fortunate enough to have it to lend iyswim?

Think we might have subway in a bit when DH gets his sexy arse home, he is helping his friend move house this morning with the van.

I had a nice night last night, just popped in town this morning and no just chilling before we go to butchers/greengrocers/morrissons in a bit. after subway though

LadyVictorianSqualor · 02/02/2008 13:05

Oh I wish my shopping would hurry up.

rainbowdays · 02/02/2008 13:12

chipmonkey - I know about the Irish health system, I have worked in it, it is different from the English system, but no easier for parents. Do you mind me asking whereabouts in Ireland you are?

chipmonkey · 02/02/2008 13:38

Co Meath, rainbowdays. Everything is arranged from th Navan County Clinic as far as I can see!

rainbowdays · 02/02/2008 16:36

Chipmonkey - Co Galway here!!!!! email me if you like, [email protected]

Peachy · 02/02/2008 18:43

I love Co galway, haven't ben to Co Meath- trying to eprsuade Dh to take the kids over to where I used to go in Co Clare but it won't be this year. baby is coming camping LOL, indeed first camping trip is Whitsun though I shall have amsses of family to help.

Chipmonkey- if you see 2shoes about, grab her and ask abouut TTR- an off MN yahoo group for sn aprents, there are a few there with ADD / ADHD kids. I know how you feel about the meals btw- I used to give the dieticain tips and poeple stilla sk what we feed him - er no, its what the school feed him when they cant be arsed to say no / go to the stash of suitable alternative we provide thats the issue!

baby clothes- the ds's were all smallish so got loads of wear from the newborn clothes, in fact dh had to stop on the way to the hosital to collect us and buy some tiny baby specialist clothes (far harder to find than now). In fact we popped into a Mothercare today (considering their new nappy system with the disposable pads but washable wraps as its the nearest compromise Dh will make- fair play, ds3's nappies are traumatic and we did the washable thing X 3)..... was showing Sam the size clothes he sued to wear- !! He's still tiny though, they're all small for their age but ds1 is smallest of his year second only to a very petite little girl.

Weighed myself today- have gained 1st 7lbs. Oh well! Can lose it after. I still weigh less than before I went to weightwatchers a few years back, so not disastrous.

Peachy · 02/02/2008 18:46

try this link- it has a link to the two different ways it can be used (front or cradle for eg breastfeeding). prices vary if you look around, i think we paid £44 inc p&p. The fabric is amazing- its organic cotton and ridiculously soft and cuddy.

scorpio1 · 02/02/2008 20:41

God i love pic n mix

Mollyfloss · 03/02/2008 09:44

This might sound like a daft question but what exactly do you dress the baby in coming home from the hospital? say the weather is average for April, do you have them in a babygro (long or short sleeves?) with something over it like a little trousers and top and then socks and a hat and then a coat over that? I have a wardrobe full of clothes, all hand me downs from my little niece so I don't have to buy any clothes for a while but the problem is knowing what to bring to the hospital for the baby to come home in Also size wise is 0-3 months ok. I have some stuff that says 0 to 1 or 1 to 2 months too...

Mollyfloss · 03/02/2008 09:45

and what does she wear while she's actually in the hopital? they're usually quite warm aren't they so is it just a little babygro? (bodysuit)

EllieG · 03/02/2008 09:47

Have just had nutella for breakfast - according to MN is now a healthy thing so am allowed.

OP posts:
SuzeM · 03/02/2008 10:00

Molly, my maternity notes say to bring babygrows for the baby to wear in the hospital, and a coat or jacket, hat, blanket or shawl and booties for going home.

Rainbowdays, my dh is from Galway (Salthill).

LadyVictorianSqualor · 03/02/2008 10:10

For baby in hospital I'd take vests (the babygros with no arms and legs bascially!) and babygros, plus a cardi, a hat and some mits(which will probably fall off).
Baby should have one layer more than you on from birth, you probably wont use the cardi in hospital but to come home the babygro/vest/cardi/hat combo plus a blanket should be fine in the car.

EllieG · 03/02/2008 10:13

God am glad I've got you lot to tell me what to do! I'd be lost otherwise yey for MN

OP posts:
Peachy · 03/02/2008 10:30

Definitely a cardi in your baby bag- ds3 got quite cold without one and had to be reheated under a grill like contraption- and that was summer! Remember as well that April can be quite cold as well as warm, especially at night.

Layers are best- you can tkae them off. I have a big snowsuit fro wanderinga round the village, but will also get a lighter one so can add shawl etc and then peel back as needed. layers also easier to take off in car etc and when going in and out of palces.

Denny185 · 03/02/2008 11:11

If you take the layers you dont have to use them if turns out to be warm. DD was April baby, vest and sleepsuit in hosp, then cardi, jacket, hat, and blanket to come home in.

Have had shite morning - literally, DS had nappy off between getting undressed and washed, went in kitchen to dispose of PJ's to return and find him squatting on the rug in the hall. At that prcise moment he stood up turned around (treading in the offending poo)and ran towards the cream carpet in the front room, thankfully no bump can stop me running where poo and cream carpets are concerned, managed to catch him and wash down, but the rug in the hall is a differrent matter its taken an age to get all the poo out those little crevices!! Ds also freaked at the site of poo again, but on picking up his comforter i realised that too was covered in the stuff

Oh and had to do this with dd hopping around demanding breakfast, and trying to keep everyone quiet as dh in bed (the joys of night shifts!)

rainbowdays · 03/02/2008 11:31

Although I will be hopefully having a homebirth, in my hospital bag (should it be necessary), for bringing the baby in the hospital, I will have a vest, babygro and little hat and light weight blanket for the just incase baby gets cold at night possibility (save the grilling contraption!) Then for coming home I will be adding a thick cardigan, and a heavier weight blanket to go over the lightwieght one with over the carseat straps. My daughter was born in November and that was surfice for then, so hoping it won't be too much colder??!?!!! Just read LVS post, she has said the same - whoops, I just agree with her!!!!

EllieG - oh nutella, now I will have to work out how to pursade someone to go to the shops for me to get some, yummy idea.

SuzeM - I got married in Galway and the reception was in the Salthill (Galway Bay hotel), it was fantastic. Do you visit Galway much?

Peachy - Co Galway is wonderful definitely. Do you visit Ireland much? I was thinking of going camping this year, you must be crazy!!! I might still go, as next year with a 1, 4 and 5 would be harder work and the 3 and 4 year old and baby I think? Hope you enjoy your trip, you will have to let us know how it goes. Also question about reusable nappies, which make do you use? I bought the bambino mio ones, but gave all my newborn ones away and now they are lost, want to get more, but wondering if there is a better system or to stick with what I know?

rainbowdays · 03/02/2008 11:32

Denny - oh what a horrible start to the day, hope it gets better (and cleaner ) later....

scorpio1 · 03/02/2008 11:35

have only just got up DH made me the smoothie off the telly that Jamie Oliver made

Yes do what vs said re clothes, hats are not needed indoors, but can stay on in shops etc. In the house its normally warm enough for bodysuit and babygro, maybe a blanket on the moses basket. No hat though. Feeling baby on the back of the neck gives you a good idea of their actual temp.

Goodness we are busy today!

Denny185 · 03/02/2008 11:44

Scorpio what a lovely start, you might as well stay in your PJs for the rest of the day now, I remember doing that on a reg basis pre-children.

Well poo gone, junk modelling finished were off to the shop now - should get rid of at least an hour of the day to walk there and buy some milk, by that time DH might be up and about.

LadyVictorianSqualor · 03/02/2008 11:49

Nutella is on offer in tescos I think, I'm sure I saw it on the pancake stuff display.

scorpio1 · 03/02/2008 12:12

I'm not overly keen on nutella, the dcs like it though

No i cant stay in pjs all day! We are popping to the supermarket in a bit to get some pastry, we are making pasties for dinner tonight this afternoon.

Jamie is going back to nursery tomorrow, 2 and a half hours of peace thank god.

Peachy · 03/02/2008 12:40

It's been quite a nice morning here- poor Denny, sympathise over the shifts, Saturday dn sundamy mornings only ones Dh not sleeping until 1 as also a night worker. PITA- ds1 and ds2 keep sneaking up for their lego, and ds3 wants to wake up daddy as soon as it gets ight- for him day = awake

DH and the older 2 out carnival float building this morning, so ds3 and I have been relaxing- nice bath together (I know he's a bit old but we treat him as a 2 year old and find that works best for him, on advice of his therapists, so OK0).

He's now obsessing over wanting the PC to lay c beebies so I am being meanie mummy.....
