Joining from the last thread x

Nightwithhertrainofstars · 17/10/2022 06:25

Hi everyone. I wonder if I can join? I'm due end of March/beginning of April. Will be DC2. I'm definitely feeling quite a bit of movement, much earlier than I did with DC1 although I did have an anterior placenta with them. Enjoying the second trimester a lot so far and revelling in not feeling nauseous and useless! I hope everyone's week goes well.

Longbin · 17/10/2022 07:04

@Chocolat no this is my second but I cleared out a lot of things from my first

LauraA31 · 17/10/2022 07:09

@Chocolat im a first time mum too, my mum and dad have bought us our pram although it doesn’t get delivered until March next year and we have looked at buying some extra little bits bur always put it off 🤦🏼‍♀️
Going to find out what we are having on 12th November and then will buy some clothes and waiting for Black Friday for some bigger items!

AliceinSlumberland · 17/10/2022 07:42

@Chocolat I’m a first timer, I’ve bought a few clothes and bits and bobs, just planning to do things gradually. Not got anything big yet other than a few bottles which my MIL kindly bought for us. Going to see what bargains I can get for Black Friday/jan sale.

DBS94 · 17/10/2022 07:50

On the subjects of bottles, has anyone looked into different brands? I'm going to get a Tommy Tipee prep machine but I've seen a lot of reviews telling me the MAM bottles are so much better x

ancienthouse · 17/10/2022 07:54

I've only bought one little bundle of clothes just because I let myself get a bit excited after my 12 week scan went well. I don't actually need to buy anything because we have loads of clothes and nappies from DD that are all organised by age/size and ready to use after a quick wash.

I'm excited to get everything down from the loft and look through it all! I was so sad putting it away not knowing if we'd ever need it again.

I'm going to get the new baby a few things that are just for them, but I'll wait a while I think. A cuddly toy, a special outfit, and I'll probably make them a few things too (I sew and knit).

ancienthouse · 17/10/2022 07:56

@DBS94 I used MAM and NUK glass bottles for expressed milk and they were really good.
I have no experience with formula feeding but from friends I've heard that the perfect prep isn't that great because it doesn't get the formula hot enough to kill the bacteria in it. Just in case you didn't already know.

AliceinSlumberland · 17/10/2022 07:58

@DBS94 We’re going to get the perfect prep (one of the only things I plan to buy new as want to make sure it’s super clean) but we’ve gone for mam bottles - all my friends seem to recommend those ones as being great with their babies!

tattlytote · 17/10/2022 08:53

I loved my perfect prep and if BFing doesn't work out again I will buy one in a heartbeat ☺️

Skylark1990 · 17/10/2022 09:17

I haven't bought anything for this baby yet, well except for a knitted pink cardigan from a charity shop about 6m ago in the hopes it would come in handy one day 😂 I figured I could also gift it to someone. But we have a lot left over from DD, and a lot of her newborn clothes are gender neutral as we bought second hand off a little boy, so I think we have the newborn stage covered - although, different seasons so will get a few summer clothes too.

Re bottles, I breastfed and never really even did expressed milk but we did have the lansinoh bottles and I have the lansinoh pump. I don't think the type of bottle matters too much unless you are going from breast to bottle? But I'm not sure. I know some advertise anti colic etc but think that's a marketing ploy.

As an aside, if you want to breastfeed, I'd hold off on buying loads of bottles and perfect prep machine etc as you may not need them at all x

MamaMenna · 17/10/2022 09:25

We bought quite a few bottles in preparation and most are totally unused, so if you think you might breastfeed I wouldn't overdo it. We bought the Mam bottles because you can sterilise them in the microwave and then I bought a couple of reusable sterilising bags also for the microwave and avoided having to buy a machine.

Leaving for my 12 week scan in 10 minutes, eek!

Theowlwhowasafraid · 17/10/2022 10:01

@xalexandra I’m on a new one called xonvea, it’s honestly been a game changer, I had hyperemisis with my first and was going the same way this time but they’ve changed my life! I even managed coffee this morning. I was on so many meds before and they worked for a time (except cyclizine which was dreadful!) push to change medication if you’re struggling- hope you’re okay!

@Skylark1990 I’m good thanks! Feeling a little more normal now thankfully- except my little one was the worst cough and was up most of the night! I was so worried it was whooping cough or croup but don’t think it’s either! I’m very tired today 😂

scan day for me! A little nervous now I must say! I haven’t really thought about it as my first has had so many bugs lately from nursery that I’ve been so busy! Will update when it’s all done!

Theowlwhowasafraid · 17/10/2022 10:02

@DBS94 we used MAM and they were great! DD moved from boob to bottle easily so DH could do some feeds which really helped, they’re so easy to sterilise too, would recommend!

LauraA31 · 17/10/2022 10:08

@MamaMenna @Theowlwhowasafraid good luck with your scans! 😅

AliceinSlumberland · 17/10/2022 10:35

I plan to combi feed if possible so will be getting a few but not going overboard.

Good luck @MamaMenna and @Theowlwhowasafraid please report back with your gorgeous scan photos.

Cuppasoupmonster · 17/10/2022 10:44

Another one who used MAM! Can recommend. They’re doing glass ones now too. I will buy 2 and some pre-made formula cartons. I plan to breastfeed for 6 months, but will be asking DH to do the odd night feed if I’m exceptionally exhausted. With a 37 weeker it’s also likely they will be jaundiced and formula clears it up faster than breastmilk.

Good luck with the scans! Xx

Good morning gorgeous people!

It’s so nice to hear some are feeling much better, and awesome to see excitable chat about buying things now we are all a bit further along. :)

I have no experience with babies and few friends with babies really. The ones I have spoken to are spend happy and love all the gadgets and things, but I’m really minimalist in my approach. I need a critical purchase list I think! Things that I absolutely can’t not get. Clothes and toys I’m not excited about yet as I feel like I have a lot to learn first about the rest.

Any help appreciated. Xxx

cheekysausage · 17/10/2022 11:11

Another MAM bottle advocate here 🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️

appleandcheese · 17/10/2022 11:11

@Pommy1 I agree - really exciting to see people recommending and buying things! I made the first purchase of a Baby Bjorn carrier on Saturday, as we have a dog, so we're hoping to use this on short walks instead of a pushchair. I've been a bit worried/anxious about making the first purchase, but now it's done, I just want to buy everything!!
Lots of research to do though. Facebook Marketplace looks great for Second Hand things, so I'm keeping an eye out on there!

I've been recommended a Shnuggle bath, so that will be next on the list.

Enjoy the shopping !!

I can't stop eating today, so baby must be having a growth spurt - 14 weeks tomorrow ❤️

Pommy1 · 17/10/2022 11:21

@appleandcheese every single word have to google haha. I might search on you tube to know why people love things they do but usually I see the word “AD” and click off 🤣

i have a doggo too. Even right I don’t know what you’ve bought, I can’t go have look now I’ve mentioned it, thank you ! Xx

Cuppasoupmonster · 17/10/2022 11:45

Here’s my critical list if it helps Pommy:

  1. Loads of babygrows. From newborn size to 3 months old. You won’t feel like shopping in the early weeks
  2. A light fleece pramsuit, a few cardigans, a hat and mittens
  3. Blanket for chilly car/pram journeys
  4. Cot (we’re getting a second hand Next2Me) with a new mattress and sheets
  5. Baby sleeping bags. So much better than blankets. Maybe 3 of them (Gro Company is best, you can get them second hand much cheaper)
  6. Tons of muslins. You will get through them!
  7. Changing mat, baby wipes and metanium nappy rash cream
  8. Newborn size nappies, a few bags
  9. 2 bottles (MAM), a steriliser and a few cartons of ready to use formula
  10. Breastfeeding pillow
  11. Tummy time pillow and play mat
  12. Schnuggle bath (still got one from last time, I found it so handy!)
  13. Pram and car seat
  14. Ergobaby 360 sling

Think that’s it. Loads of people will say ‘just clothes and a place to sleep’ but I found all of the above helpful particularly when it came to getting out and about. I find the sooner you get used to taking them places the sooner your confidence grows - I hid away for too long last time and I think it contributed to me being a bit of a nervous mum.
