16 weeks today 💕 hope everyone is feeling okay.

@Marshmallowmountain I haven't suffered with this personally but my husband has along with really bad calf cramps all throughout his life! I'm not sure if it's pregnancy safe but he uses magnesium spray directly on his legs and it's such a great product!

Anyone got any tips to stop back sleeping? I've always been a back sleeper and struggling to get out the habit. Go to sleep on my side with a pregnancy pillow and pillows behind my back to stop me rolling over and still wake up on my back, mouth open deep sleep the lot 😂😂

DBS94 · 25/10/2022 08:11

@Marshmallowmountain this is the one and states it's pregnancy and breast feeding safe!

@DBS94 thank you! Have ordered it so fingers crossed

Hey all, hope you're well today! Best of luck for your scan today @Pommy1 sorry you had to go through all that with the cancelled appointment, hope it all goes well today. I'm feeling quite exhausted atm and still a bit nauseous in the evenings. Hoping for that second trimester glow soon!

@Emeal123 and others re movement - I have felt very slight occasional movements since about 13 weeks but its extremely random and sporadic. I'm 16+4 today and had my midwife appointment yesterday (no doppler 😔) and she actually put the fear into me a bit as she was like 'have you felt baby yet?' and I said yes but it's not regular and v faint and she was like 'well keep an eye on it, if it gets less, always go in etc' and I just thought but how can I know if it's dropping off if there is no pattern yet? And most of what I've heard says not to worry about regular movement until much later.... my DH said she was just trying to prepare me for being 'aware' which I guess is fine but it made me a bit anxious. With my DD I didn't feel movement till 18 weeks and that was two tiny thuds, and definitely didn't have regular movement till after 20 weeks - can't remember exactly. This morning I lay in bed for ages trying to feel baby and prodding my stomach 😅I'm going to try to relax as it's still so early.

@xalexandra @DBS94 sorry about your health anxiety - I get this too I think although not too bad luckily. I have/had a lump in my boob and got it checked out when I was 9 weeks pregnant and it was fine but they said they'd get me in 3 months later just to check again due to pregnancy and breastfeeding hormones. So I'm going back in Dec. And I keep feeling it and wondering if it's changed etc... have to stop myself as it isnt helpful and I'm going back soon anyway! Exhausting though isn't it, feeling anxious.

Skylark1990 · 25/10/2022 09:00

@DBS94 I was like this re back sleeping - I think as long as you have a pillow behind you if you roll onto your back when you're asleep, you won't be fully on your back so not as bad - my midwife said not to worry but just to roll back onto your side when you wake up and to switch sides as that's good too.

@Marshmallowmountain I don't have restless legs but I feel quite achy in the small hours of the morning, and have found taking some extra magnesium as a supplement helps... you can get it as a powder and just mix it with water. As far as I know taking a bit of extra magnesium in pregnancy is OK but you may want to double check! Otherwise yes that spray sounds good.

@MamaMenna yay for maternity clothes! I have a few things now too and it's definitely more comfy... but I really need some good maternity tights to wear with dresses for work, as the ones I have are all rubbish. They 🙄fall down and cut into my bump and sag around my legs

Skylark1990 · 25/10/2022 09:04

Restless legs are a sign of magnesium/calcium deficiency in second trimester:

www.blackmores.com.au/pregnancy-and-preconception/two-essential-nutrients-in-pregnancy

If you're taking a prenatal supplement, it will likely have magnesium but not the full amount recommended so you'd just need to balance it out with any additional supplement. x

Lid88 · 25/10/2022 09:24

Hi all,

I don't know whats going on but I honestly feel like I'm back to how I felt at 9 weeks and I'm almost 16. My sickness is back full force, the nausea and everything smelling horrid is also back. These stupid hormones make my house and husband stink to me. He thinks it's hilarious but I literally feel like I can't stand to me at home because of the 'smell'. Anyone else get a random bout of fresh hell of hormones around now? I'm so miserable!!

Theowlwhowasafraid · 25/10/2022 09:25

@Margo34 its not just you I promise! I felt so incredibly guilty as I felt I was being disloyal to my DD by having another and completely overwhelmed with how I’m meant to love another as much as I love her. It’s a very strange feeling! I’m hoping as the pregnancy continues I will feel more excited and bonded to this baby like I did with my DD. It’s a very strange feeling!

ancienthouse · 25/10/2022 09:40

@Lid88 my sense of smell is stronger in the evenings still. I'm almost 16 weeks tomorrow. My house stinks to me, I can't stand to sit downstairs on an evening! And when my DD has a bath the smell of the bubble bath makes me retch. It's nice bubble bath, it's so weird. And my hands constantly smell like onion and garlic to me, despite scrubbing them. I also still have a horrible taste in my mouth all the time. The sickness/nausea is definitely better than it was but I really can't wait for these last bits to finally go away!

Restless legs and cramps - I was getting these when I stopped taking my vitamins but taking magnesium again has made them go away. I also have a water filter that adds a little magnesium to the water so I get a bit from drinking too. I need magnesium anyway for PCOS and other things, it's amazing what a difference it can make!

ancienthouse · 25/10/2022 09:49

@Theowlwhowasafraid I alternate between feeling guilty about disrupting DDs life and taking attention away from her (I just had to explain to her this morning that my boobs are busy making milk for the baby and she seemed sad that they weren't "hers" any more 😔)
and then feeling like what if I love the baby more because the baby doesn't throw toys and argue back and refuse to get dressed!! DD is lovely most of the time and is so excited about the baby but she has her moments of madness that make me question why on earth I want two of them running around!

ancienthouse · 25/10/2022 11:11

@DBS94 I think as your bump gets bigger, back sleeping gets more uncomfortable so you naturally wake if you end up on your back. I'm normally a side sleeper but in pregnancy I end up on my back a lot in the night and always wake up, it's so annoying! I try to sleep on my left side to help acid reflux but my DD comes in the bed about 2am and rolls me over to my right side for a cuddle (and so she can use my face as a pillow 🙄)

MamaMenna · 25/10/2022 12:56

@Skylark1990 @Marshmallowmountain my dr prescribed me magnesium pills to take twice a day so it's definitely OK during pregnancy. @DBS94 that's the same brand I have for the body lotion. It helped me a bit with insomnia as well as restless legs. I also like magnesium flakes for the bath.

DBS94 · 25/10/2022 13:26

Thanks for the feedback everyone xx

This might be a bit of strange one... I'm looking to buy Lewis capaldi tickets for Jan, I would obviously go for seating but are concerts okay when pregnant? Just in terms of noise level? This might a very silly question but not one I'd thought of until now!!

ancienthouse · 25/10/2022 13:38

@DBS94 yes! totally fine! I went to a few when about 5 to 7 months pregnant and they were fine. I swapped my standing tickets for seats and the staff were usually lovely and helpful. The baby loved it, kicked all the way through them, I imagined they were dancing away in there!

Longbin · 25/10/2022 14:46

@DBS94 seating would be fine!

Cuppasoupmonster · 25/10/2022 15:47

Hi ladies! Just woken up - got back from clinic appointment and just passed out on the sofa. Maybe because I had a couple of vaccinations at the appointment, but I feel totally wiped! Listened to baby’s heartbeat 💓 on the Doppler which was nice. Only thing is baby is rhesus positive (I’m negative as is DD) so I will have to go back for Anti D at 28 weeks. Anyone else have this?

Margo34 · 25/10/2022 16:21

Thanks for your messages ladies, I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way. It hasn't occured to me that it might be breastfeeding linked @Skylark1990 but now you suggest that it might well be playing a part, I'm still BF the toddler but I'm pretty sure I'm dry now so it could all be linked.

@Theowlwhowasafraid that overwhelming disloyalty feeling is a really spot on way to describe it.

I'm sorry others are experiencing it too 😔 I did try talking to DH about it all but he just brushed it aside and that was that, don't think he gets it at all.

I feel a bit better today and I do wonder if I was a bit triggered by telling family at the weekend about pregnancy and because my first original EDD of the year had just passed so it pulled so many emotions to the fore. I spent yesterday afternoon sleeping entirely while my toddler was at nursery, had planned to have a date day with DH but I just slept for half the day. I must have needed it though.

Thank you for letting me vent. Virtual hugs to you all

MamaMenna · 25/10/2022 16:44

@Cuppasoupmonster yes I've had the anti d injections. It's not the nicest, goes on and on but needs must

Cuppasoupmonster · 25/10/2022 17:14

Sorry @MamaMenna what do you mean goes on and on? Do you mind if I ask the process?

OP posts:
MamaMenna · 25/10/2022 17:29

I never look but it must be a large quantity, I mean it takes longer than other injections to administer. In the UK I had it into my arm like most injections and it stung quite a bit. Recently I had it this pregnancy in Germany due to the bleeding I had and she put it into the side of my back, above buttocks height, what felt like a strange place for an injection. It didn't sting so I don't know if that was due to the strange location 🤔. She made me stand up and it felt like it took half a minute to do. It's not the most pleasant experience but thinking about it is worse (with me anyway)

Tubbytele · 25/10/2022 17:31

@Margo34 and others who have been finding this pregnancy difficult, sorry that you're experiencing this. It's so full of mixed emotions on one hand being so happy to have a sticky bean and then on the other all the anxiety that comes with it. I have definitely been more anxious through this pregnancy than my first. I share your thoughts on the changes that will come with transitioning from one child to two. DS is an absolute boob fiend and does not show any want to give the breast up. He only feeds to sleep and I'm dreading weaning him off as I know what a comfort it is to him. And we have been co-sleeping for a very long time so he will need to move into a new room which will be another big change for him. So for now I'm leaving the breastfeeding as is and thinking of moving him into the new room as soon as so it's nowhere near when the little one is due.

I met with my consultant today and confirmed wanting ELCS. She was lovely and very understanding of the difficult traumatic birth we had with DS and the PTSD that DH still has from it, so now feels very real.

I hope everyone else is having a lovely day :)

ancienthouse · 25/10/2022 17:44

@Tubbytele My DD has her own room and starts off sleeping in there, but every night she comes into our room at some point. So we're sort of still cosleeping. She's been asking where the baby will sleep and if she can still come in the bed when the baby is here and I don't want to say no. We are going to be very very squashed!

Tubbytele · 25/10/2022 17:53

@ancienthouse aww your DD is so cute already thinking about wanting to sleep with you when the baby is here. How old is she? DS moves around the whole bed even though we have a super king size bed and so DH moved to the spare bed when we started cosleeping. So planning to get DS moved into the new room, see how he settles and get him used to DH being there instead of me so I can be with the little one at night. I'm nervous about the changes and I love cosleeping with DS so need to prepare myself for this.

Cuppasoupmonster · 25/10/2022 18:01

I think the changes here will be minimal, DD sleeps in her own bedroom, usually through the night 🤪 but only in our bed if she’s unwell. She’s quite an outgoing, confident character so I think she will really enjoy being ‘big sister’ and having a minion to boss around!

@MamaMenna eek, ok will brace myself for something a little more than a regular jab! All for the best I suppose…
