Hoonette · 06/02/2008 10:11

Hello and congratulations to you all. I'm expecting too! think my due date is 8 Oct. Already have one DS who is nearly 9 months old.

I'm of the school of thought where you don't tell anyone until you're sure it's all ok (just personal choice). The thing is, they don't do 12 week scans in Bristol; you only get the 20 week one. So I'll be pestering the midwife to listen for the heartbeat at every appointment (all the maternal fat might prove a problem, though!)

Hope all goes well for us all.

Julezboo · 06/02/2008 10:23

hoonette congrats! Cat believe you dont get a 12 week scan!! Im up the road at cardiff and they seem to give them out willy nilly in my hospital !!

Can you pay for a private one ? Around £50 I think for a dating scan.

Im still spotting today but also threw up this morning so a good sign!

How is everyone today ?

Hoonette · 06/02/2008 10:26

Good to hear you're throwing up, Julez (in a nice way as this is a very positive sign )

07mumstheword · 06/02/2008 11:04

Hello Hoonette Congratulations I live in Bristol too and found out that Bupa here do a scan for £99 if you want to put your mind at rest before 20 wks

I did another test today and the lines were very strong I'm still on CD24 so feels a little strange but I did OV day 10 so things seem to have happened early for me. It's reassuring that others further down the line than me aren't experiencing any sypmtoms.

07mumstheword · 06/02/2008 11:06

Julezboo I never thought I'd be so glad to hear someone has been sick It is a very good sign.

Julezboo · 06/02/2008 12:03

thanks mumstheword I think

Only thing is now I cant stop, but i cant stop eating either!

daisyj · 06/02/2008 12:44

Bethoo and minerv ? I?m so with you on all counts. Phoned up a new mum friend yesterday crying as felt overwhelmed with it all. And I felt stressed, which made me more stressed because stress is bad for the baby!

And all day I had the mad idea that at any minute I might step out of my office and just yell IIIII?MMM PREEEEGNAAAANT, you know, like when you?re standing on the edge of a cliff or a tall building and have a strange compulsion to jump. I?ve told a couple of friends, and will tell parents in a week or so, as I don?t think I can keep it to myself for much longer. I figure if it doesn?t work out these are people I would tell anyway? Obviously not telling work till first scan, though. And I?m nervous about the whole hospital thing, too, as I live in Lewisham and the standards of care and cleanliness are not exactly renowned. Well, not renowned for being high, anyway.

But must stop fretting ? seems really self-indulgent when everything seems fine, and I feel physically great, and some people actually have real problems.

Sorry for the ramble? Feeling a bit lost.

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/02/2008 12:58

Hurrah for sickness Julez .

Congratulations Hoonette.

Bless you daisyj. It's quite normal to feel all excited and nervous when it's your first time (or second, or third.....).

tedmundo · 06/02/2008 12:59

mumstheword and hoonette - I also live in Bristol (how nice is it out there today!) and I believe Southmead now does a 12 week dating scan. My friend is 12 weeks and just had a dating scan up there. I had my ds a year ago and they didn't at that time offer this scan but now it seems they have finally got their act together.

They do not test for nuchal translucency though so depending on how you feel about this, the Shire Hospital (old Bupa) in Clifton does nt scan and bloods for £196.

Also happy to hear about people experiencing the symptoms - my sickness has gone now which is a wee bit worrying but I didn't get any with ds either so perhaps I am just a tough old mare.

bethoo · 06/02/2008 12:59

JUlezboo - i htink i had what you had on my last pregnancy- they called it a heamorraghe but i am sure it is one and hte same, i bled from 6 weeks to 15 weeks everyday, everytime i wiped after the loo it was there and at elast once a week i had a huge gush so had a scan every week as bleedign was so heavy, at one time the pool of blood accumulating in my womb was more that the baby mass! and the blood was always red, brown is a good sign that it is old and your body is just cleaning your insides out i guess.

MrsBish · 06/02/2008 13:04

Welcome Hoonette - my date twin!

Pip and I are good today - as far as I can tell! The tiredness is setting in now - but still no sickness so far......

Pleased to hear your good news Julezboo

Looking forward to hearing how your scan goes tomorrow Sambrands

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/02/2008 14:09

Oh MrsBish - you'll confuse me calling the baby Pip - my dd is Pippa!

Congrats DIA - that's quite a gap!

for feeling rather too sick Julez.

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/02/2008 14:11

I've had one at 8 weeks, but not 6. Presume it will be transvaginal. They should be able to see the sac iirc, but prob not a heartbeat yet.

DoingItAgain · 06/02/2008 14:12

Hi Sam. Yep, I'm very lucky to have Fruity in my life, she's simply wonderful.

I had a scan at 6 weeks and a few days with my 9 yr old (dating scan) Sonographer pointed at the screen to this little flashing thing on the screen which I though was her heartbeat as it was so small but she said "see that? That's your baby" so small and yet makes you immensily proud!!!

DoingItAgain · 06/02/2008 14:14

I know, what am I letting myself in for Cantsleep! On a positive, I'll have a good little helper!!!

Julezboo · 06/02/2008 14:16

sambrads · 06/02/2008 14:22
