Mirage, you lucky, lucky girl not getting any stretch marks! I'm very keen on a home birth and my mw is very much in favour. Dp is very worried about the mess though!! There is a good thread around here somewhere on the topic. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Megi, Coco butter is a very good idea. I'll give it a go!

charleypops · 04/12/2004 19:12

Hi Scraggy,

I also have a few stretch marks on my thighs and tops of my arms from when I put on a load of weight as a teenager. Everyone says it's hereditary don't they? Well, my mum didn't get any, but my gran did, so I am worried about them too. Vain I know, but there you go.... I'm using Bio-oil. I've been using it as a general moisturiser for the past few months and instinctively began putting on my tum as soon as I discovered I was pg. I've just been looking at their web-site and they reckon that it is great for pregnancy. The address is www.bio-oil.info. I'll try a link.......

bio-oil

I buy it from Ebay - I pay £7 including p&p for a bottle which lasts me a long time

Lua · 05/12/2004 19:25

Evening all,
I feel for you bubaloo. I had a terrible cold this week, still do! Enjoy while you can staying sick at home! This is one the things that I really miss from my pre-motherhood days. Usually if I am sick, DD is sick too... Thus, staying at home is not really restful...

I have a weird question for everyone... I swear I am starting to fell some contractions already, I mean long painful ones. Is it someting wrong? Anyone else having them this early? I am 14+3....
Tanks for any help in the subject!
Scraggyaggy · 06/12/2004 08:04

Bubbaloo - You poor thing. Hope you feel better soon. I know what you mean about the last Xmas with no little ones - we're plannin our pre-birth couple holiday and our post-birth first family holiday already!

Lua - According to my book, you get contractions all the time, but normally cn't feel them. On the other hand, I would call my midwife if I were you. Better to be safe.

LipstickMum · 06/12/2004 09:36

Hi girls,

I have a busy 2 days ahead, am off to see my sister who had her second baby dd yesterday :) and then tomorrow I am off to London, Christmas shopping. Time is flying and I feel I need to do some kind of Christmas preparations every day in order to keep up!!

About the stretch marks. I used Palmer's cocoa butter every night on my bump and didnt get ANY!!... Or so I thought!!! Once dd came out, I noticed marks on the underside of what had been my bump, below my belly button and just above the pubic hairline, I hadn't really been rubbing there Sad I have applied bio-oil afterwards and they have diminished, they never leave full stop, they just fade. Anyway, I believe stretch marks are just luck/bad luck, genetics or whatever, I don't think any amount of rubbing really stops them, maybe just slows them down a bit!!

I seem to be getting a bit of this cold/flu too, hope it doesn't develop much more than this,

Ooooooh, scan next week Grin !!! Coming up to 12 weeks this week.

teabelly · 06/12/2004 10:09

Morning all,

I always have sooo much to catch up on only being able to get on here mon - wed! Will have to check out this Christmas name thread, but would be stumped for my name...Smile

Glad so many will be able to make the meetup, it should be alot of fun, I've never done a meetup like this before either...will we all have to wear red carnations to recognise each other...can't assume the bump will give it away, imagine how embarrassing it would be going up to some poor harrassed pg mum who thinks you're completely mad calling her by a range of daft nicknames GrinGrinGrin

Sweetheart, glad your exam went so well...fingers crossed for the results now Smile

Scraggy - what don't yo understand about the holiday bit?? I'll try to explain if I can, just let me know...

Re the stretch mark thing, a friend's dancer mum made her use plain old baby oil, and so I did the same, and I never got any marks, even though I had what looked like a purple railway system over my thighs, hips, arms and boobs as an adolecent Wink to be honest though I think so long as you use something that helps the skin retain it's elasticity then you're helping.

Uwila · 06/12/2004 10:27

mornin' everyone. Nothing too exicitng to report. DD has has a dry rough skin with little red raised dots and she's scratching so it must be itchy. So, I've stayed home this morning so I can take her to the doc at 11:50. I'm sure it's not serious, but figured the GP migh be able to advise on a suitable cream for her. I'm really no expert, but my best guess is that is might be eczema. She's never had it before though, and she 20 months old. Any one else with little ones had this experience?

Otherwise we are fine. I'm contemplating telling my boss that I am pregnant today. No, I haven't told him yet.

Uwila, my ds has had ezcema since he was 4 weeks - dh had it bad as a child so it was very likely ds was going to get it too. Sounds like your dd may have it. If so there are several good creams out there. We use DoubleBase (on prescription) for general moisturisation and fusidon (sp?) for bad flare ups. I find that heat, like central heating can make it worse, and he usually gets in on the back of his knees, the inside of his elbows and his wrists mostly. When he's having a bad attack I cut down on his cow's milk intake and this also helps greatly.

sweetheart · 06/12/2004 11:51

Morning,

Had a very bust weekend of christmas shopping!!! Just wanted to share my "find" with everyone.

I went into H&M to look at the maternity stuff and it's lovely - also very reasonibly priced!!! The trousers don't have the baby pouch - they are simply elasticated which means they'll fit during this horrible (to big for normal clothes but too small for maternity clothes) phase.

I was very impressed with their range so stocked up with a few pieces!!!! Can't wait to get a bit bigger now so I can start wearing my lovely new maternity clothes!!!! Grin

katzguk · 06/12/2004 11:54

i agree sweetheart can't wait to get into maternity stuff. but waiting til sales to buy!! since this WILL be the last baby for me!

teabelly · 06/12/2004 12:21

Yeah, H&M do some fab things at great prices, and Top Shop are doing some nice dressy tops for Christmas & parties, aswell as some good jeans. Just dragged out my maternity stuff from when pg with ds, but they look so old now - prob coz I only bought a few items and wore them so much Grin...I want new ones now!! Will try to work on dh to get him to agree, he he he Wink

MrsWednesday · 06/12/2004 12:36

I want new stuff too! Looking at my old maternity clothes I seem to have survived wearing three tops and two pairs of trousers. I've got a few days off work next week to do my Christmas shopping so I can see me spending some time in H&M too, so thanks for the tip!

JonahB · 06/12/2004 13:05

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are all feeling okay today.

Sorry I haven't been on for a while. Thanks for the H&M tip. When is the normal time to give up on normal clothes and face the fact that you are going to be living in maternity clothes for the foreseeable future? My jeans and suits are already really tight. I'm also at that awful stage where I don't look pg, just overweight.

Has anyone else's belly button started to come up closer to the light? I thought that only happened much further in to the pgy?

Lua/Katzguk - I'm in Manchester as well if your planning a northerners meet-up....

katzguk · 06/12/2004 13:33

yeah another northern - will have to plan something, Lua what do you think?

Lua · 06/12/2004 14:08

I say we definetely have critical mass... The thing now is to find where and when.... Let's start with when.... I guess is reasonable to assume, after xtmas? I will be away (in sunny Brasil!) until after xtmas. So I propose a weekend after the new years?!
I imagine a weekend is better because we will need some comuting to get all in one place, but am open to take a day off from work, if that works better for others!

JonahB, good to know about a fellow mancunian... which hospital will you be delivering? I am booked on Wythenshawe, but am still thinking about home birth or St. MAry's. Do you have any helpful information about the different local hospitals, I'm new to the area!

MrsWednesday · 06/12/2004 14:09

I'd be on for a northern meet-up, even though I feel a bit shy about it Blush. I'm happy to travel anywhere northern, but possibly not quite as far as mcmudda's new house.

JonahB, the same thing is happening with my belly button!! I can't remember if this happened so early with my DS, but I do know that it never stuck out completely, just spread out and got very close to the surface (sorry for all the detail!).

Lua · 06/12/2004 14:12

I woke up with a bump this morning! It is so weird! it is impossible to disguise as it is starting really far up, right under my bra. It must be fat! the baby is supposed to be much further down!
I am still fitting in some of my bigger "normal" clothes, but decided to go ahead a buy some pregnancy clothes this weekend!! I am ashamed to see though, that I bought overseas.... it is sooooo much cheaper! Bought through the internet and shipped to a friends house, which will then ship to me. I hope they look ok when I see it in person!! I just bought basic stuff though, and am also planning to hit H&M during sales to get a few more items....

Scraggyaggy · 06/12/2004 14:16

Teabelly - My holiday runs from April to April, but we can't take holiday from Sept/Oct through to Feb/March, so on that basis, what happens with my holiday? Or what can I do with it? I hope that makes sense.

I had a horrible experience this morning, which I have told a couple of you about already. I was walking to work and was suddenly overcome with a desire to be incredibly sick, so I slowed down and started breathing deeply and tried to convince myself that this was not going to happen. Anyway, I thought I had just about managed to suppress it when it came back and took me by surprise! I hurried over the bridge, thinking I could dash across the road to the park and subtly puke behind a bush, but it was not meant to be!! I ended up being sick by the bridge in the MIDDLE of the street!!! How embarrassing. Everyone must've thought I was hung over from a really heavy night! Only positive point was that I immediately started to feel better! LOL!

welshmum · 06/12/2004 14:41

Scraggy that sounds horrid - glad you felt better though.
That's a good idea about waiting 'til the sales for the mat clothes shopping Lua. I'll be happier when the bump is there to be properly dressed.
I'm feeling a bit too knackered today - too much partying at the weekend. Ended up wearing an outfit that involved a black satin corset. Good grief! you won't catch me doing that for quite a while now - felt like a trussed up chicken and didn't look unlike one either. Sometimes I don't know what comes over me.....

katzguk · 06/12/2004 14:58

i'm in a procrastinating mode!!!

katzguk · 06/12/2004 15:20

Lua · 06/12/2004 15:35

KAtz, just went to your site and it told me I have a 50% chance of having a boy! humm... oh yeah! I already new that! Smile
Procrastination sounds good!

Just gave a lecture where nobody had an opinion on anything... so frustrating. Too late to start anything new today, so websurfing is the way to go!
Do have a christmas banquet to go tonight though, so that shall be fun! Although it won't be fun that it is an open bar for 3 hours, and I may have perhaps a half a glass of wine only...Sad
