I think Mirage is in Leicester...
I would go to any of these cities if there is a good connection by train. I hear there is good shopping in Leedss.... so that could make for a fun outting...

LipstickMum · 03/12/2004 12:05

Cannot imagine delivering at 24 weeks...

katzguk · 03/12/2004 12:07

24 weeks would be valentines day for me!! kinda scarey when you think about it!!!

welshmum · 03/12/2004 12:12

My friend had her little boy at 27 weeks - she was in total shock. Nothing ready, especially her head! Luckily, very luckily he is totally fine - although they had big worries about his eyes early on and he had to have surgery.

LipstickMum · 03/12/2004 12:28

I just had a brief look at ttc thread 15. It made my heart sink to still see some of the names on there that were there when I was a couple of months ago I was only on it for a month. Makes me thank my lucky stars so far.

On a lighter note. I am seriously into my mince pies, after all it is December. I recommend them warm, with single cream

welshmum · 03/12/2004 13:06

Are you making them Lippy or buying them? I usually buy them but I think I want to have a go at making my own - will start gently with bought pastry and may (eek) progress to making own pastry. Then I will be proper wife and mother.

sweetheart · 03/12/2004 14:04

I have to say Lipstick that there are alot of names on there from when I very first started using the ttc boards. That was a year ago.

It's so awful to see some of them still haven't managed it - I still feel very close to some of the members of the ttc boards and often check up how everyone is doing.

MrsWednesday · 03/12/2004 14:39

Has anyone tried the Thorntons caramel shortbread biscuits? They are little squares of heaven. With chocolate on. I'm not buying any more because it's impossible to have just one (scoffed four this morning - had my mother and toddler group round this morning and the other mums didn't get a look in).

This is a tough stage, I agree. Too fat for normal clothes and not enough bump for maternity stuff. I started going to the gym a few months ago and I'm trying to stick with it as long as I can during this pregnancy but it's already getting harder to summon the motivation. The only thing that's keeping me going is the fact that my sister is getting married three months after this baby is due and I'm a bridesmaid - I know it's vain but I keep thinking of those wedding photos!!!!

I still check up on the TTC threads, just wish there was some way of making them all graduate before Christmas. It is so difficult and frustrating for them - it's easy to forget when we're all suffering that there are people desperate to be where we are.

welshmum · 03/12/2004 15:00

Now you're just not helping MrsW - next time I go past Thornton's I won't. I'll go in instead and buy them to try.
I never went on the ttc boards - I found it too painful to talk about what we were going through.

MrsWednesday · 03/12/2004 15:03

Even worse Welshmum, they sell them in supermarkets, so you don't have to make a special trip. Well, they sell them in Morrisons but I don't know if you have those in London?

sweetheart · 03/12/2004 15:11

They do strawberry toffee things aswell which are devine

MrsWednesday · 03/12/2004 15:21

Forgot to say Sweetheart, really pleased your exam went well. Now you can relax and enjoy the festive period.

sweetheart · 03/12/2004 15:49

Thanks MrsW - I love Christmas - I'm a real nut for it!!!! Can't wait!!!

Merry Christmas to you all!!!!

LipstickMum · 03/12/2004 15:54

Welshie, I haven't made my own yet this season, but I will do next week. I'm scoffing loads at the mo. when friends come round, great fun. Oh, and when I do make them I use ready made pastry and posh mincemeat.
Mrs W those caramel shortbread things sound bad!!!! I must buy some.

I feel really Christmassy!! Do you lot???

sweetheart · 03/12/2004 15:58

Oh yeah totally!!! I'm having to resist putting my tree up until next weekend!!!!

I WANT IT UP NOW!!!!!! Only trouble is I haven't done the shopping or wrapping to put prezzies under it!!!!!

megi · 03/12/2004 16:02

I am really into festive food at the mo as well! Especially satsumas, mince pies....mmmmmmm and.....the new Mcflurrys - mint matchmakers! Delicious! Not that I have a sweet tooth or anything!

Sweetheart - I have never been on a meet up either and am a bit nervous about it. I am generally quite shy especially in large groups - but as we are all in the same boat I reckon it will be fine. Anyway - you have ages to decide yet!

sweetheart · 03/12/2004 16:32

I'm not overly shy - dd is which would cause a problem.

I think it's a personal block about meeting up with internet friends - I'm worried it might spoil the mystery of it all.

I'm in touch with quite a few MNetters via e-mail, MSN etc etc but I've never actually met any of them. I only live about 10 mins from one lady I've been chatting to for ages but we have agreed not to meet.

Am, I being wierd??? I think I probably am!??!?!?!

LipstickMum · 03/12/2004 18:30

Nah Sweetheart, I understand completely.

Scraggyaggy · 03/12/2004 18:52

Sweetheart, I have a "friend" who I have known for 3 years on MSN and never met up with, but they're a special friend that I tell everything to, to get honest opinions from and I think that if we met up then our unbiased opinions would be coloured.

I think meeting up, for those who want to, will be a really good experience. I just want to have a hat to someone face to face who isn't going to lecture and will really know exactly how I feel at that moment in time!

I still have to keep pinching myself. I can't believe this has really happened to me! Some mornings I wke up and I've forotten and then I look at my belly, remember and feel all so cosy inside. Anyone else like that? Or is it just me?

Any Christmassy names that I could potentially use would be greatly appeciated btw.

katzguk · 03/12/2004 19:04

scraggy and sweetheart - sorry about disappearing earlier my student over ran and then i noticed i should have left to pick up DD 10 mins before so just turned off computer and ran, should have said bye but just didn't have the time.

Scraggyaggy · 03/12/2004 19:44

Katz, no worries. Have a great weekend. x

JennyWren · 03/12/2004 21:31

Hi everyone. Just a quick message before bed, to let you all know that my scan yesterday went really well. Babs woke up long enough (eventually!) to get all the measurements, and the Downs risk was calculated as 1 in 7900. As the risk with just my age is 1 in 780, those odds are good enough for us. The other good thing about having had two scans was that the radiographer was able to tell us that over the week, the baby is growing at the right rate and in the right proportions, so all appears well there too.

But I'm off on a business trip so I won't be around this week - so please don't worry if I'm even more quiet than usual. I'm sure that I'll be back!!

Scraggyaggy · 04/12/2004 09:09

Morning everyone!

Hope everyone is feeling better this weekend - hey, it's almost Christmas! Am at my mum's today, so going to get it all decorated and festive here, as this is where we shall be having Christmas this year.

Does anyone have any good tips for stretch-marks? I am paranoid I'm going to get them as I've got them on the tops of my thighs and a little bit on my boobs from when I was a teenager and I really don't want them on my tummy too. I went to Boots last week to buy something and got bogged down with it all - Sunflower or Almond oil? Does it have to have rosehip in it? Do you spend £4 or £15? Aaaargh! In the end I just had to leave it. The other thing is that dp just hates anything oily, so a cream would be great but they're all oil based aren't they? Can anyone help?

x

megi · 04/12/2004 10:08

Last time I used Cocoa-Butter and I have no stretch marks. Will be using again this time - really cheap as well!

Mirage · 04/12/2004 13:58

Hi again.

Jennywren-fab news on your scan.
Scraggyaggy, sorry, but I didn't use anything for stretch marks with dd,so don't know what to reccomend.I was lucky enough to not get any, despite putting on over 4 stone. Will my luck hold out again though?

I love reading about all these scans, but I won't get one now til my 20wk one on 20th Jan.As I had a scan at 10.5wks because of bleeding, the hospital have cancelled my 12wk one.I still haven't had my 12wk appt yet either-it isn't until 14th Dec & I'll be 16wks then.I did ring to ask if there was any point in going as I'll be seeing my midwife the day before, but apparently I will still have to go,so they can discuss 'how to manage my care'.

I was intigued by the toilet roll test to see how big a bump you have & measured my waist (or where it used to be)It is now 33" instead of 26" so something is going on in there.I am still exactly the same weight though, which is odd,but I suppose running around after a 15 month old is burning up those calories.

Is anyone here planning a home birth? I am considering it-especially as if this one arrives any quicker than dd did,I may have no choice in the matter anyway!

Best go & wrap some pressies whilst dd is napping-yesterday she was unwrapping them as fast as I wrapped them up.
Hope everyone is ok.
