Time for new thread. I'll add a link on the old one.

Uwila · 29/11/2004 20:38

Oh, Jonah I personally feel the I can be the self proclaimed headache queen of the June and May threads. I suffer from Migraines when I'm not pregnant. They are pretty mild as far as migraines go, but I get them every couple of weeks and they last for 3 to 5 days. 3 or 4 days out of every 14 is 30% of the time. They seem to be about as frequent during pregnancy, but I can't take my beloved triptan medicines. Apparently it is common for migraine sufferers to get more of them in the first trimester of pregnancy, but then not much at all after that. Although I have passed the first trimester now, and I'm still waiting for the bloody migraines to go away!

Do you get migraines normally? Or are they tension headaches?

JonahB, I'm another one suffering from headaches. Not quite as crippling as Uwila's migraines, but they are definitely annoying. I had them with my DS too and I seem to remember they went by about 14-15 weeks. So, not too much longer to go...hopefully.

Another northerner here - I'm in Leeds.

Any news from Sweetheart? Didn't she have her scan today? Hope everything went well for her.

Sorry I haven't been around much, I've been popping in briefly to see what you are all up to but have been sooooooooo busy at work today - have got the day off tomorrow for my scan. If all goes well me and my DH will spend the rest of the day Christmas shopping.

About the HIV test - I hadn't even thought about it, but now that you've mentioned it I can't see the point in being tested again when I know I'm negative (regular blood donor, plus tested last time - so unless DH has been misbehaving...)

Found out when I was at the doctors on Friday collecting my repeat prescription for my inhaler (anyone else asthmatic and finding it worse than normal?) that they'd forgotton to tell the midwife about my pregnancy! I did wonder why no one had been in touch about a booking in appointment...

mcmudda · 29/11/2004 23:17

We have the internet again!!!!

I'm now living in the frozen north, battling with a log fire and no television reception.

The man from Sky won't give us telly yet cos we live in a wooden house - he's got to come back with reinforcements in 2 weeks

Found a lovely GP surgery in the nearest vilage (20 mins!) and I've got my booking in appointment tomorrow.

Been waiting 12 long weeks to hear that heartbeat, so everybody keep your fingers and toes crossed for me - I'm a born worrier

My lovely new health visitor (yes I've found the one and only!) phoned the other day to make sure I was settling in ok and told me about the nearest toddler group etc.

I love it here! It's beautiful and everyone we've met so far is bending over backwards to help us settle in.

And that's my update for now. Will post back after D-day tomorrow.

Lovely to see we have our new home and great to see familiar names again

teabelly · 30/11/2004 09:01

Morning girls,

Sorry to hear some of you are suffering with headaches and migranes still, I'm so lucky as I don't really get them, but my brother suffers from migranes so I understand a bit.

Mrs W good luck for today's scan...let us know tomorrow how it went.

McMudda welcome back! Glad to hear you're settling in ok, bummer about the tv...two weeks, not sure we'd survive in our house that long!!

Tessiebear · 30/11/2004 09:22

Thanks for your opinions on the HIV thing. I dont know why i am being so silly about it - i am a born worrier and at the moment i feel crippled with worry thinking - what if i have got it and dont know? DH and i have been together - and faithful- for 7 and a half yrs. I didnt have loads of partners before him but there was a couple of blokes whose sexual history i didnt know ?!? That is without worrying about DH's past.
Teabelly - my eldest DS was born in 98

Uwila · 30/11/2004 09:40

Tessie,
If you are worried about it, you could have the test done privately (a bit more trust worthy on their record keeping skills, I think). And, if you aren't worried (let's face it if you had a fatal disease you'd probably know it by now), then just that... don't worry about it.

OP posts:
Uwila · 30/11/2004 09:41

The most peculiar thing has happened to my migraine... it has gone away. I feel fine. I must have the sypathy of someone upstairs. This has NEVER happened to me before. I keep expecting it to return. But, so far I'm fine.... yippee!!!!!!

touch wood...

OP posts:
Tessiebear · 30/11/2004 09:48

Uwila - great news about Migrane
Thanks for your advice - i think you are right - i have got to stop worrying! There must be something else i can worry about!

teabelly · 30/11/2004 09:51

Uwila - keeping fingers and toes crossed for you that it doesn't return

Tessie in that case if your youngest was born after 1999, and you didn't specifically say no to having an HIV test included when you were expecting your youngest I susspect that you've already had it done but didn't know, unless they say something to you the result would have been negative, so you wouldn't need to have it again. You could always check with your MW or hospital when you go for the bloods this time to see if you would have had it. Sorry abit long winded

welshmum · 30/11/2004 09:56

Morning all.
I get headaches too - not migraines but enough for the odd paracetemol (which my GP best mate takes by the bucket load when she's pg so I feel reassured) I seem to remember they stop as you get into the 2nd trimester - or they did last time.
I'm up for the Rainforest Cafe too and at the moment can do either date.
Mcmudda I am unbelievably jealous. I can feel my heart yearning for the hills of home as I read your post, it makes me very unsettled! No 2 just might be the push we need to get us out of London - it's work that stops us currently. Good luck with settling though it sounds like your feet are not only well under the table but wiggling their little toes in a pair of cosy slippers!

sweetheart · 30/11/2004 10:03

Morning ladies!!!

Mirage - I haven't had any bleeding, the reason I asked about Anti D is because I'm a RH neg blood group and women here are given a choice as to wether they have it or not.

Re the HIV thing. I had the test with dd and when they asked about it this time round I didn't really think to say no. I just thought it was a routein thing they do. Wish I had said no now - I'm a bit worried!!!

Anyway, had my scan yesterday. Was very worried at first as they couldn't find anything. Dh and I were looking at each toher thinking "there's nothing there!!!!"

Anyway they did an internal scan and managed to find the little blighter!!!! So panic over (although not embarrasment - was totally unprepaired for that!!!!) So was dh

Baby is 9 week tomorrow and measured 22mm. I'm now due on 6th July - but I'm staying put here - I can't leave you girl now!!!! Might just have a peek on the July thread though!!!

How is everyone else????

MrsWednesday · 30/11/2004 10:05

Just quickly checking in to say everything was fine with my scan . Low risk for everything, heard the heartbeat and saw the little baby busy bobbing around in my tummy!

Welcome back mcmudda, hope everything goes well with your appointment.

Off to hit the shops now, have a good day everyone.

welshmum · 30/11/2004 10:08

Aaaaah that's great sweetheart. It's so sorrying when untoward stuff happens during the scan. The sonographer put the scaning thing (what's it called?) on my tummy saw something and then took it away immediately saying she just wanted to check my notes before going any further. My heart skipped. Glad all is well with you - and you're dead right no disappearing off to the July board please.

welshmum · 30/11/2004 10:08

Well done to you too MrsW - enjoy your shopping

teabelly · 30/11/2004 10:09

Sweetheart fab news - know what you mean about the internal scan, luckily I didn't have dh there, but ds was - I'm just glad he's too young to be emotionally scarred - I only wish he'd stop talking about it! Luckily though we call a woman's bits 'nu nu' so when he says the dr saw mummy's noo noo, everyone thinks he's talking about my vaccum cleaner, he he he!!

teabelly · 30/11/2004 10:10

Ooh yes congrats Mrs W don't spend too much!

katzguk · 30/11/2004 10:15

morning all!

feeling a little better but still taking the medication - GP said its up to me when i stop. so will just take each day as it comes and if i'm feeling better will try to reduce the dose but the tablets are so small taking half will be hard!!

Re HIV didn't really think about it, so just had it anyway, the way i see it is just the hospital looking out for their staffs safety. I might just get a funny result for hep B because i've had the jabs to be vaccined against it (for work) but they didn't take so not sure what that will do for my blood test?

oh well 13 weeks now i think, not very good at keeping up with stuff. Was planning my maternity leave yesterday, thinking of taking annual leave before birth then starting mat pay on due date having the time off then (allowed 9weeks full, 18 weeks half, 8 weeks SMP) but trying to work it to avoid having to go down to just SMP by taking leave. Anyone know the rules about annual leave?

Tessiebear · 30/11/2004 10:18

Great news Sweetheart! I think i am going to be due in July as well when they do my scan as i think i am 9 weeks!
Great news with your scan Mrs W!!!! - enjoy the shopping!
Welcome back MCmudda!!!!

teabelly · 30/11/2004 10:27

Katz you can take annual leave before or after your OML/AML (ordinary/additional maternity leave). But you cannot be paid for it i.e. just take OML and get cash in lieu of holidays. You're entitled to accrue holiday in the normal way for OML, but I'm not sure it applies to AML so if you get 20 days and take a year off you'd build up 10 days leave to take before or tag onto the end or your leave. All leave due must be taken before you return to work if it spans two different holiday years. I think you're entitled to bank holidays in OML too though so that could get you afew extra days. If you take holiday before your maternity leave but the baby comes early, then maternity pay starts when the baby is born, and you'll have to tag any remaining holiday onto the end of your maternity leave. Thats the stautory rules...your company can be flexible if they wish, like allowing you to take unused holiday in a following holiday year. HTH

sweetheart · 30/11/2004 10:33

teabelly!!!!!

Thank god my dd wasn't there!!!!! It's the sort of thing she'd go on and on and on about!!! I just know she'd mention it at the worst possible moments!! It was bad enough having dh watch!! especially when she handed me the probe and asked me to uhhemmmmm insert it!!!! Sorry TMI

teabelly · 30/11/2004 10:58

Sweetheart - at least the dr did that bit for me!! Kids eh don't you just love them !

MrsWednesday · 30/11/2004 11:05

Great news Sweetheart!!! Don't leave us!

Right, really, really, really going shopping now.

LipstickMum · 30/11/2004 12:37

Morning all!!

Welcome back McMudda, so glad your settled in your lovely new home up in Scotland, I bet it's gorgeous! Am very jealous, although I think I'm mainly jealous because I know I couldn't live in the 'country' for anything, born townie here, but I would absolutely love to, knowing all the good things about it sigh ah well!

Well done on a successful scan Mrs W and have fun shopping, I have a whole day to myself in London next Tuseday for shopping, cannot wait!
Glad you're staying put Sweetheart, I think it's far too late to bother leaving now

mcmudda · 30/11/2004 12:55

Hi again everyone,

Met my lovely really laid back midwife this morning. she said my GP will book my scan after he sees me for a new patient registering appt tomorrow. I just need to choose my hospital!

Stirling Royal or a choice of the 2 in Glasgow. Ds was born in Watford so I haven't a scooby!! Anyone know where you can find out stats of different hospitals? Like section rate etc? cheers midears!

charleypops · 30/11/2004 13:52

Just thought I'd tke this opportunity to pop in to say a BIG HELLO to everyone that remembers me (and those who don't). At the moment I can only post here when there's a new thread cos my computer can't handle such a popular page - September must have been a busy month - i think I can post before it gets up to about 250 messages. I try to keep up with everyone every day if I can.

Hope you sickies are coming out of it now. I've not had it really myself, but I've been getting headaches regularly like some of you - nothing like migranes, but enough to take paracetamol - hope your horrors are beginning to let go Uwila.

What I have got though is a horrid "undertaste" in my mouth. I'm quite pleased about this though, because I sometimes worry I don't have enough symptoms!

MrsW and everyone who's had successful scans lately - congratulations!!

Sweetheart - I admire you for doing the internal thing in the presence your dh. There is no way I could do that - I'd have to send him out of the room which would be such a shame for him - is that silly of me?? Got mine on Monday AT LAST it seems like an age! Does anyone know if the NHS scan screens for the nasal bone?

I've just changed hospitals so was just going to get another whole set of bloods done - didn't even consider not having another HIV test, but affter reading your posts, I'll definitely decline it this time round.
