I had some over the bump jeans from Next last time but they were so big I still had the sides tightened with massive safety pins the day I gave birth! So this time I've bought some underbump ones from Topshop...they were comfy in the changing room but I don't know about walking around in them yet as they don't quite fit yet.

LipstickMum · 21/12/2004 12:08

I had some very comfy over the bump jeans, although there was a visible line at the top of my bump! Maybe I'll get one of each this time.
Also, apart from Hennes, Top Shop, FunMum.com anybody know any good, relatively cheap but funky maternity wear shops or websites?
Oh and also, does the Top Shop at Oxford Circus sell maternity clothes? It's massive, it must do..?

walkinginawelshmumwonderland · 21/12/2004 12:14

Lipstick, It's a Wonderful Life was on video.
And yes Hallelujah, Top Shop, Oxford Circus does do maternity. I could probably run through tht range for you! (Loads of jeans, combat trousers, denim skirts, floaty tops, hoodies, and a couple of dresses - one nice wrap round black one and a couple of Christmas frocks - how sad am I?!)I also think that some of their other stuff should fit pretty well all the way through too - tops and stuff. I'll be off there as soon as my clothes don't fit - but I'm still ok in most things apart from my jeans. I bought new 'fat' ones and a Christmas skirt 2 sizes too big too!

LipstickMum · 21/12/2004 12:19

Great! I just looked at the collection online, I can't wait, last pregnancy I was just so bloody boring. This time I will be a cutting edge fashionista!!! Thought I was sitting here all on my own waiting for posts like a sad loner

Going to toast some pita, brb

MrsWednesday · 21/12/2004 12:48

Afternoon ladies. Have been popping in to read your messages this morning but I'm feeling completely uninspired today and have nothing to say for myself! I don't know what's the matter with me, I'm still really, really tired.

I went for over the bump stuff last time round but my bump was very low - not much room underneath. I definitely want to do a trendy pregnancy this time round - I think this will be my last one, so I want to do it glam (or to think I look glam - will just avoid mirrors to prevent my illusions being shattered). Not looking too hot today though - have broken out in lots of enormous spots all over my chin, which is probably due to the amount of chocolate I'm eating.

Off out for lunch with my DH now - we've hardly seen each other since he started a new job a few weeks ago but he's finally managed to get a day off.

Have fun at your scan Sweetheart! And enjoy your Christmas party too.

LipstickMum · 21/12/2004 13:16

Aww Mrs Dubblya, it's always good to hear from you whether you're (in ur opinion) being as boring as shit or not . Enjoy lunch with dh.

I am in the middle of housework Have a good afternoon all.

MrsWednesday · 21/12/2004 14:11

You are too kind Lippy! Had a lovely lunch, went to Pizza Express and now stink of garlic .

Forgot to ask Welshmum, how did you broach the subject with your DD? Still haven't said anything to DS yet.

JonahB · 21/12/2004 17:34

Hi Everyone,

Glad you're all sounding happy today. I've had a lovely day. I had my first midwife apt, and heard the heartbeat for the first time . I finally FINALLY feel that I am pgt and not just a big faker. Or more importantly, that there is something in there!!!

Also need some advice though. She said my sugar urine level was too high and she'll have to retest it. What does this mean? Should I be worried?

Best of luck for your scan, sweetheart....

LipstickMum · 21/12/2004 17:37

Ooooooohhhh Pizza Express, always good, delicious dough balls.
We have told my dd about the new baby, but she is rather young to take it in! She does know what a baby is though and points whenever she sees them, so hopefully when bump is bigger she can point to that

I went into town this afternoon and got dd the cutest pair of little Mary Jane's you ever saw!! She is gonna look too cute in her party dress on Christmas day with her lil black shoes too. It's great dressing little girls

LipstickMum · 21/12/2004 17:39

Hi Jonah, congrats on having your first scan, hearing the heartbeat and all, I found it a relief just to be reassured! I suppose sugar in the urine could mean gestational diabetes. Don't know much about it though, perhaps look in a book. Do you drink fizzy drinks? I knew a woman in my NCT class who had the same time and was told she had to give up her 4 can a day Pepsi Max habit pronto!

tribpot · 21/12/2004 19:59

Evening all,

Morning sickness is still technically alive and well - at least that's the excuse I have for nearly throwing up in front of a ward full of blokes when I took the dh in yesterday morning. Actually it was a combination of incontinent old men and the over-active sense of smell of pregnancy It makes me want to heave every time I come into the ward, which is not good. Still, dh finally escapes for good tomorrow we hope, 10 days in hospital having achieved basically nothing.

I sent my scan picture to a friend of mine this morning. He said "What's that?".

Have a great Christmas all!

MrsWednesday · 21/12/2004 21:55

I held a friend's new born daughter at the weekend and asked DS to come over and have a look at the baby. He came over and said 'hello baby' and walked off again, completely disinterested.

Dressing little girls sounds like so much more fun than dressing little boys (jeans, top...shall I go mad and put a jumper on too?). Had great fun buying outfits for aforementioned new born girl the other day. And you're right Lippy, the dough balls are heavenly (hence the garlic breath!)

So glad your DH is out of the hospital in time for Christmas tribpot.

Congratulations on hearing the heartbeat JonahB - you're really growing a baby in there! Can't help on the sugar situation though, sorry.

Scraggyaggy · 21/12/2004 22:04

Evening all!

Thank you for your kind words relating to unwanted advice. A friend of mine got it in the neck on Saturday night as he accidentally touched a raw nerve on this subject! Ooops. Felt so bad afterwards. You are all right though, am going to have to learn to smile and nod. Hmmmm... should be an interesting concept.

We are now telling all our friends and am so happy. All my friends are totally thrilled and totally shocked!!! They haven't guessed in the slightest.

Lipstick et al who haven't bought maternity wear - how are you managing??? I've been in my maternity trousers for the last month!!! My waistline expanded so quickly that my clothes were cutting me in half! In fat, I am now loking particularly potbellied!

Teabelly - The masssge / spa evening went well. On the advice of fellow MNers I rang the salon and explained and they were really good with me and were very professional and didn't let on at all. I had a facial, then a manicure and then an aromasteam pod with no oils. Was an excellent night.

Have a nice evening everyone. x

teabelly · 22/12/2004 09:17

Morning girls,

Jonahb hearing that little heartbeat for the first time is just fab - and the feeling doesn't diminish each subsequent time either . Sounds like they could be looking out for diabetes - but as Lipstick says if you've had somethinf sweet to eat/drink before the sample was taken this can squiff the results.

Scraggy your evening sounds great - glad it all went ok...so are you going to tell work after the Christmas break? Good luck for when you do.

Tribpot so glad your dh will be at home for Christmas, but no progress made after 10 days.

Well I'm in for a seriously busy day today...just been given my year end timetable and after taking out the days I don't work and bank holidays I have the grand total of 3 working days to get everything done , so I'd better stop gassing and get on with it!! Have a great Christmas everyone, and I'll try and catch up with you all sometime over the next few days.

x

LipstickMum · 22/12/2004 12:58

Hi Girls ~waves~

Scraggy, so glad you enjoyed your spa evening and that you were able to enjoy the treatments. You even got extra special service which can't be bad, would have been awful if you'd turned up and found out you couldn't do anything!

Re maternity clothes. I have only one pair of jeans that I can wear, plus a couple pairs of track pants ( I don't work so that's easy). Most of my tops fit me, apart from a few like today's which rides a bit above the bump. I guess it's easier to wear casual clothes than work clothes..?

However, on the subject of clothes, I took out £200 from my savings account and spent it on ME!!!! I've probably bought 5 items of clothes this year alone, maybe 6. I just went into Jigsaw and got a girl to run around for me I find it very difficult to find shops that have clothes that I even like for a start. Anyone else have that problem?

How are you all today??

JonahB · 22/12/2004 13:43

Hi All, thanks for all your kind messages..

Lipstick, think you were right about the gestational diabetes theory. I had a retest this am, and everything was fine. Although I'm not on 4 cans a day (that is v. funny), I did have a can the day before so maybe that's it. I never drink fizzy drinks usually, but since the pgy, i've developed a serious taste for coke.

Tribpot - I'm glad your dh will be at home for christmas, so sorry it was all a waste of time. Must be v. frustrating for you both.

I'm still in non-maty clothes, but most of you are on no.2, i've been told that you are smaller on your first. However, the mw did tell me yesterday, that i had a 18 week bump or a v. big baby (i'm 16 wks). I'm only small (5 ft, size 8-10) so now i'm slightly concerned that i'm about to have a huge baby. And here was me thinking I was going to have a little 6 pound tinker. Fingers crossed they've just mixed up my dates..ha ha.

tribpot · 22/12/2004 18:14

Thanks all. Seven and a half hours today for a 15 min test and to be discharged. If dh hadn't needed a change in his meds I would have just walked out with what we already had.

To be honest, I'm now pretty concerned about the prospect of having my baby there, particularly with it being the first. I have visions of just being left in a state of major distress for hours at a time (as was the case for one poor woman in the discharge ward today, she just broke down in tears when they told her she'd have to come in every day for the next 5 days, i.e. inc Xmas and Boxing Days).

Perhaps I should start a thread to see if anyone has any positive experiences of the West Suffolk?

Have a good evening all!

Uwila · 22/12/2004 21:34

Hello,
It's seems like I haven't posted on here in ages. I was sick last week (some miserable vomit bug that's been making it's rounds here at the uwila house), followed by a migraine. Oh well, at least I'm well for Christmas.

Tribot, my advice to you would be to go into the hospital (when your in labour obviously) knowing what you want. If you want an epidural, then demand it loud and clear, don;t wait for them to say, oh sorry too late. And, if you have your waters broken (in case you go overdue) get the epidural first so that you don't risk missing it if things move too fast after the waters break.

Mind if I ask what hopital? Do you know anyone who has been there? The best advice on a hospital defintely comes from previous patients.

Scraggyaggy · 22/12/2004 21:41

Hello!

Tribpot - Glad dh is now home. Hope you have a lovely Christmas!

JonahB - You are going to HAVE to send me a photo of yourself!!! How can you have an 18 week bump and still be in NORMAL clothes!!! Am so jealous it's untrue...

Teabelly - Yes, am going to tell the big boss in the New Year. I won't have much choice by then the way I am going. We are having a Christmas meal tomorrow night and I have been driving my mother and dp totally potty with my wardrobe problems. I have found sthg very flouncy to wear which I bought for a tenner (dp hates it) - it serves its purpose.

Does anyone else have dry nipples? Sorry, but I am getting a very itchy left breast!!!

Speak to you all soon - only 3 days to go (well, 2 days and 2 hours 20 mins!) x

katzguk · 23/12/2004 09:07

Morning all

talking about umps, first time round with DD i didn't show for ages, in fact people didn't know and were suprised when i told them i was 20 weeks!!

This time i have a nice little bump (16 weeks) and have dragged my maternity jeans out of the cupboard to wear over christmas and am going to spend it up big in the sales!!!

LipstickMum · 23/12/2004 11:47

Hi Girls!

Is everyone pretty much ready for Christmas?
I think I've got everything ~harrassed looking face~ Christmas begins tomorrow for us, we celebrate a German Christmas on Christmas Eve and then the English one on the day. Very convenient, it means both familes see each other on their 'special day'.

Lots of love to all for a lovely few days

Off to make stuffing, forcemeat and cranberry sauce

tribpot · 23/12/2004 12:40

Hi Lipstick!

Well, I haven't done a single thing for Christmas, other than send out my cards. No pressies, no tree, no turkey for Xmas Day, not a blessed thing. (I do have to face the horror of Sainsburys at some point to buy something to eat, we'll prob have steak). I have written to friends and family to apologise for the absense of pressies, but it's just not been a priority in the last few weeks, so it'll have to wait til January.

Well, hope everyone else is ready to go, have a great one all!

Scraggyaggy · 23/12/2004 13:55

Tribpot - you will have a lovely Christmas, no matter what. I'm sure the best thing is having dh home with you all.

Lipstick - How do you do it? You are always busy making sthg. I think you should set up Lipstick hoome-bake ltd or sthg and take orders from all of us who can't / won't cook (I'm more of a won't), so we can then impress our other halves with "Sthg we made earlier"... he he he!

(1 day and 10 hours to go!) x

walkinginawelshmumwonderland · 23/12/2004 13:57

Mrs W sorry late for replying to your question. DD has been having the Christmas story - so lots of talk about the baby Jesus. Then friends of ours had a new baby too this week so we asked her if she would like a baby sister or brother. She said 'yes please mummy' so we told her. It was pretty low key and we've decided that it's up to her to bring it up now and she does....'GUESS WHAT'S IN MUMMY'S TUMMY?????' she shouts at every opportunity! What a sweetheart, she seems fine about it all so far....
I'm raring to go for Christmas Lipstick, can't wait. Everything seems to be more or less done now and the boys are cooking - Hurrah! Tomorrow we'll go the Crib service at Church and maybe midnight mass too and then stuff her stocking before bed and wait for the mayhem to begin. I just can't wait.
Hope everyone has a lovely time - and manages to get a bit of rest in too xxx

walkinginawelshmumwonderland · 23/12/2004 14:39

I probably won't be around a great deal now until January so have a happy, happy tme all. xxxxx
