boneym - was just reading on another thread that 30% of babies are breech at 30 weeks, but fewer than 5% are at term. So lots of time. No idea which way up mine is - in fact I think the baby is doing somersaults, I ate about 200 g of white chocolate last night and it seemed to send the bub on a sugar crazed high!

misdee · 15/12/2004 18:53

Sweeny, i cant belive it myself some days. i swear if i was reading this i'd be thinking that misdee was a liar or a scriptwriter for eastenders .

I forgot about a visit from my HV today, as i went to the hospital this mornign to see dh. poor luv is gonna be lucky if he is out for the weekend.

misdee · 16/12/2004 08:12

please place bets now on whther or not they'll be taking more blood today. I think they will take 2 vials.

OP posts:
Pidge · 16/12/2004 09:50

Misdee you are the blood giving champion! You must be truly like a pincushion. Hope you get your dp back with you soon too.

I have my work Christmas bash this eve, so left the bike at home for once and was a lady of leisure travelling in by train. But still managing to fit in my multiple breakfasts, which I usually excuse by the cycling. Is anyone else eating vast quantities!? I had banana, pear and natural yogurt at home, then a pain au chocolate on the train, now I'm chomping a (small) honey sandwich (which was supposed to be for the train, only the P au C was too tempting!) and I'm still intending to fit in a banana sandwich late morning before my usual jacket potato lunch. I'm pretty small (apart from the bump) but will be the size of a house at this rate.

Hope everyone else is well, I can't wait for Christmas hols now and hopefully lots of sleep and more eating!

misdee · 16/12/2004 09:53

my bed is being delivered saturday!!!

hope dh is back with me to test it out lol

bonymerryxmas · 16/12/2004 15:56

misdee - guess you will have had more of the red stuff sucked from your veins by now - or not! Hope everything went ok - I really don't know how you manage to stay in such good spirits - I reckon labour will be a breeze for you after everything else that you've had to go through . Hope you dh is ok and back home soon - bet you can't wait for your new bed!
Pidge - I also seem to be eating loads, but like you haven't put weight on anywhere but the bump - yet!!! My main problem is that all the extra stuff I'm eating tends to be 'bad" - chocolate, crsips etc., rather than the fruit I know I ought to be having. No willpower, that's my problem!

Pidge · 16/12/2004 16:11

ha ha - was guiltily scoffing a chocolate bar just as I read that message boneym!

misdee - hope they left you with SOME blood circulating in your veins. When do they let you know for sure about the gestational diabetes? It's tomorrow for the liver results isn't it? Good luck.

misdee · 16/12/2004 17:45

right, the liver test is ok!! so i dont have obstetic chlolostatis or however you bloody spell it. so will see gp tomorrow for anti histimine and creams to soothe this itch.

but i do have gestational diabetes. i have my own little machine to check blood suger levels 4-5 times a day, have to order a sharps bin as well. so i only got jabbed once today, and that was only a finger prick test. yippee!!

I also saw bubs on screeen again, growth scan looks good, is still on average line so its not a big un, not yet anyway. Got another appt weds to see GD team at ante natel, to see if GD can be control by diet or if i need insulin.

AND Dh should be home tomorrow!!!

OP posts:
misdee · 19/12/2004 19:01

dh came home friday, but had to go back in today

feeling very odd this evening, mixture od tiredness and feeling blue i think.

OP posts:
sweeney · 20/12/2004 00:42

sorry misdee you feeling blue. i hope you can have a good cry and hide under the duvet and indulge your feelings. you've been so strong. glad you haven't got cholestasis on top of everything else.
i had a good nights sleep for first time in 2 weeks. only awake for say 2 hours which is pretty good as my hip pain can be excrutiating and i've got a cough and cold.
new carpet arrives tomoorow....can't wait. having new wardrobe doors fitted jan and then flat on market!

Pidge · 20/12/2004 09:34

Misdee - really pleased the liver tests were ok, that would have been worse than the gestational diabetes I think? Hope they can control the latter without having to have insulin jabs. Sorry to hear about your dh - you are having such a rotten time of it.

We had our pre-Christmas lunch with the in-laws, as we're off to my parents for Christmas itself. Dd had a great time opening her presents, eating a vast lunch and generally getting lots of attention. Also went to a party where one person said she thought I must be due to have the baby next week, and another person said how compact and tiny my bump was!

Only two and a half more days work for me till Christmas hols and I am seriously demob happy.

Leogaela · 20/12/2004 10:23

Hi everyone!

I am back from a week holiday. It was very nice and relaxing, we just did some walking, went to the spa, read a lot, slept a lot. We were in the mountains for a week. It was very green when we went up there, but now there has been loads of snow! Zurich is also covered in snow! Very christmassy!

Misdee, hope you are feeling better today. Good news about the liver test results. As for the diabetes - not so good news, but I think it is really common in pregnancy isn't it? A friend of mine had it, they told her she had been eating too much pasta! How is your dh doing?

Popsycal, how are things with you? Sounds as though everything else cannot be helping with the high bp. Did you ever get confirmation about the liver test results. I hate it when they say they will only tell you if the results are not good. Is everything else OK?

As for me, I am very proud that I have had an almost chocolate free week! And have cut down on the sugary foods.... Except we took a big tin on chocolate brownies on holiday with us, and dp's mum insisted that we took a tin of here homemade christmas biscuits, and there was that delicious warm chocolate pudding, and the strawberry cake thingy and.... hmmmm!

As for the baby, I am convinced that for most of the week the baby was laying across my belly, It has been very active so I am not sure it liked the position much. I have had lots of big hard kicks just above my left hip and sometimes could feel a head shaped bit sticking out of my right side. I kind of worry that the baby has got itself in a muddle and can't get itself into a comfortable position, but it seems to be a bit quieter now. I also worry that I am going to roll onto my right side when I sleep and crush the baby's head!

Is everyone else taking much time off over christmas? As I had holiday last week I am working right through now.

popsycal · 20/12/2004 13:11

Well I am a happy chappy for once...
Went for more monitoring today as they wanted to test me every week. Took more bloods too. BP profile over 2 hours was fine!!! Bloods were fine and only a trace of protein in my urine. All so positive that the hospital have discharged me but do want my comm midwife to see me on a weekly basis for BP checks!

HURRAH!!!!!!!!!

Pidge · 20/12/2004 13:50

Yahoo - popsycal - that is great news!

Welcome back Leogaela - holiday sounds wonderful. I haven't had more than a day or two off since late summer, so am really looking forward to almost 2 weeks break over Christmas! I am going to be a spoilt rotten by my parents - hurrah.

Is anyone else with a toddler finding it increasingly difficult to pick them up? I can get my dd (2.5) up off the ground ok, but then the bump just gets in the way when I'm carrying her on my hips. On Saturday we walked to the shops and she asked to be carried on the very last bit home, and I foolishly tried to put her on my shoulders - nearly both ended up falling over on the pavement to the entertainment of passers by!

popsycal · 20/12/2004 13:52

Pidge - i was thinking of the carrying toddler thing today - ds fell asleep in the car and i carried him upstairs to bed and nearly collapsed...

ZoeC · 20/12/2004 14:26

I'm finding I have to piggyback carry dd downstairs (she's perfectly capable of coming down on her own but regularly chooses to make me carry her!).

misdee · 20/12/2004 22:28

i dont even attempt to lift dd2 unles si have to. she weighs 39lb at just over 2 years old.

popsy, just read your post on jaundice, that must have been very scary for you, hope it doesnt happen with this baby as well. both my girls had jaundice but nothing like what you described.

sweeny, best of luck with the renovating etc, all i am, havign to do is rederocate this palce, have 2 rooms left to do, but dont know if i can get them done on time really.

Leogaela · 22/12/2004 10:45

I hope the silence from everyone is a good sign that you are all finishing preparations for christmas or celebrating already! Hope everyone is feeling well!

Does anyone else get the feeling that they are not going to be able to eat much over christmas? At the moment even if I eat a small amount I feel abolutely bloated and stuffed as if I have really over eaten!
I also think the baby has turned, I can't feel the head sticking out of the side anymore. although the baby is much quieter again when it does kick it is getting my ribs! Oooph! I not very tall and have a short body, I am really wondering where the baby is going to go as it grows even longer!

Pidge · 22/12/2004 10:49

Hullooo! I'm working my last half day before setting off to Wales to stay with my folks over Christmas. Dp is picking me up at lunchtime with dd and my bruv in the car - so I am well and truly demob happy.

I hope everyone has relaxed uneventful Christmasses. I will log on at some point - but probably not so regularly.

Misdee - really hope your dh is back with you soon.

Leogaela - I plan to combat the lack of room for eating by focussing on high-calorie produce only! I have made an enormous batch of chocolate brandy truffles, which are my number one target!

misdee · 22/12/2004 22:43

Am really confused now. saw diabetes team today, and they said my 1 hr reading , by uk standrads mean i'm not diabetic, and by US standards, i am not diabetic. but the level is too high for theitr liking. So i am now having to do maybe 2 tests a day, have another ppointment in 4 weeks time for growth scan and see diabetes doc again. ther are a little concerned that dd2 was 9lb, surely thats not that big is it?

OP posts:
Leogaela · 23/12/2004 09:22

Hi Misdee, its really frustrating that they are giving you unclear info and mixed messages. I would guess that if your level is a bit higher than normal they will probably want to monitor you just to be sure it doesn't get worse. It should be reassuring for you that you are having the attention and care and that they are not just sending you away. Did they make suggestions about diet or anything to prevent it from getting worse?

I hope you find some time to do something that will help you relax and rest. Seems like you have had such a stressful few weeks.

How is your dh doing?

misdee · 24/12/2004 08:58

Just ordered the buggy popsy. will let u know what it is like when it arrives.

Hi everyone - hope you all had a good Christmas - it's been ages since I logged on! DH and I flew to Vienna on Christmas Eve (we wanted to get away as dd was spending Christmas with her father) - it was wonderful - fab, luxurious hotel, great Christmas markets and lots of yummy cakes and pastries! So great not to have to worry about my figure . Only drawback was that we couldn't do as much sightseeing as we usually would as I can't seem to walk too far these days and get tired easily.
Midwife came this morning to book me in for home birth - they are really positive about it here which is great and I will get to meet all six midwives in the team which means that I will know whoever it is that attends the birth which is also comforting. Also ordered the birthing pool yesterday - one of the inflatable ones. It seems very similar in size to the ones you can hire but is MUCH cheaper! Am just really keeping my fingers crossed that nothing happens to spoil my plans as I'm really keen not to end up in hospital.
Well - have waffled on for long enough I think! Look forward to hearing everyone else's news.

leprechaun · 29/12/2004 21:36

Hello all,
new member here, hitting the last few weeks of pregnancy. Can't wait for the end. I hope that everyone had a nice restful Chrimbo and that all is well with you and your respective bumps. 2005 here we come.......ecstatic that only have couple more weeks of work. My poor pregnant brain just is not up to the task at all.....I am just so scatty and it appears to be getting worse. I'm turning into a health hazard! You see, I can't even remember the question that I was going to ask you all and it seemed rather important only mere minutes ago......AGHHHH.....It is so frustrating. Ah well it shall keep. I shall leave you all to your breathlessness and varicose veins to name but 2.
Ta'ra.....

sweeney · 29/12/2004 22:10

hope you all had a great christmas. many 'it will be very different next year' knowing comments to the first time parents, but we let it all wash over us and enjoyed hopping from family to family. we've just about finished decorating the flat to put on the market and it looks fab......best ever since i moved in15 yrs ago! got a few lovely baby clothes and mother books. all good stuff. feeling loved up and only 3 afternoons left at work.. haven't slept very well for ages, still bad hip pain and had cough for 2 weeks but hey ho.
