Is anyone else gettinga really sore lower back and a realy sore 'top of the bump'?
The last few days have been a real pain!!

Can't believe there is still 3 months to go.....dragging on here!
:)

Pidge · 07/12/2004 09:23

Well, the contents of the homebirth box were predictably disappointing! A mega pack of maternity pads, lots of surgical gloves, swabs, a catheter thingy for clearing out baby's lungs I think, a box for putting any used needles in, and a bunch of other stuff. The midwife was rather embarrassed when she realised they'd delivered it 10 weeks early! Guess we'll just stick it in the cellar till it's needed.

Nice to hear there are some more of you thinking about homebirths - I'm very nervous about it, but I'm so close to the hospital it will be easy to go in if all doesn't go to plan.

Misdee - I hope your dh gets some good news soon - a heart transplant could completely revolutionise his health. I guess it's an alarming prospect - but so much better than his current position by the sounds of it.

Leogaela · 07/12/2004 09:52

Misdee - sorry to hear about your dh. That's a lot on your plate but you should be proud of yourself as you seem to be coping very well!

misdee · 07/12/2004 14:55

i'm not today, coping that is. dh was up all night, i'm shattered. had to cancel driving lesson as wouldnt be able to concentrate due to eyes keep trying to close.

baby is moving well tho, and i havent been sick for over a week now, so thats all good!! Got appt on thursday (thouight it was yesterday but checked book and its thurs) for GTT and anti-d. tho will probably refuse it as they are checking anti bodies anyway.

Had my antenatal check up today, everything is going well, baby is very active with a strong, loud heartbeat!

Still feeling panicky but saw a counsellor the other day and she was lovely so i'm feeling alot more positive. Wow I must be lucky as i'm having no problems sleeping!! Sleep on my side back or side/front and apart from the odd trip to the loo I sleep right through the night.

I have, however, got Sciatica my bum keeps going numb and cramping and my back can get quite sore. On the good side again I was weighed and i've not gained 1 pound yet!! I'm still exactly the same, which is good to hear.

sweeney · 08/12/2004 03:40

up in the middle of the night so i thought i'd post a message!
can't believe the pressure you must be under misdee sounds as if you are having to take care of everyone, you must be exhausted. i really hope that things get easier for your family.
glad things went well with counsellor shalaa. i had midwife appt last week and heard heartbeat aswell it's so amazing.
work has started on communal hallway so will hopefully be able to put house on market in early jan. the outside still needs doing so lord knows how we will sell it with that hanging over the property! do you tell people that work is planned and knock money off asking price? or pay for it ahead of time? or not say anything and hope work doesn't start before completion? any ideas?? i think these worries are keeping me awake, along with heartburn.

munchkinsusie · 08/12/2004 09:26

hi all.

misdee - sorry to hear you're dh isn't too well. i hope he gets the transplant soon and that things improve. i can't imagine how hard it must be to have to deal with that as well as the pregnancy. (hugs)
shalaa - glad the councellor helped. and i'm very jelous that you've not put on any weight - how have you managed that? i've put on 13 pounds so far!

i think you're all very brave opting for a home birth. i'm going to go to the hospital, but they do have two birthing pools which i'm hoping will be available for me to use. i don't like the idea of something going wrong and having to get myself into hospital to put it right, but i guess that's probably a really small risk. maybe i'll try a homebirth for the second if this one goes alright?

i'm afraid i'm not sleeping very well either. i'm waking up with sore hips and the sciatica means i can't sleep on my back anymore which is my favourite sleeping position. i'm shattered this morning.

also, sorry if this is too much information, but is anyone else going off sex? it all just seems like too much bother now - i keep persevering thinking each time that it'll be like it used to - but it never is. although i'll feel a bit bad for dh if i say that's it, no more - i also like the fact that he still wants to, even though i look like a whale.

sorry, i think i'm in a bit of a depressed mood this morning. i've just had some chocolate to see if that would help - but i don't think it has, it's just made me think that i'm turning into one big bump.

misdee · 08/12/2004 09:33

well i havent slept again. dh was up all night, i ended up on teh sofa. at the weekend i am off to ikea to buy a high bed for the babies room, so dh can sleep in there till his chest calms down.

TBh dealing with dh heart problem isnt bothering me too much. we have known that a transplant was more on less likely to happen since he was dx when i was pregnant with dd2. I found it very stressful back then, as dh was hospitalised for 2 weeks, i had dd1 at home, was further out from family etc back then. At least now, we are back in our home town, have both sets of grandparents close by, both of whom are almost always available for babysitting, hospital trips etc.

We selfishly wanted to expand our family despite dh health problems. my mum initailly was very worried, thinking i'm gonna be left on my own with 3 kids, but dh could be about for another 20+ years, and we cant put our lives on hold forever.

Enough rambling, have u all done your xmas shopping yet Grin

Pidge · 08/12/2004 09:45

misdee - the bed sounds like a very good move - can't imagine coping with sleep deprivation on top of everything else. I'm tucked up under the duvet by 10pm at the latest and (other than loo trips) don't emerge till 7am at the earliest these days, and at weekends it's more like 8am plus some afternoon naps! I am a snooze monster.

munchkinsusie - sex - what's that again? Grin

shalaa - can't believe you still weigh the same! I managed that for the first 3 months due to morning sickness, but am now heading towards elephant weight! I was so virtuous in my first pregnancy - eating a super-healthy diet rich in fruit and veg. This time round I have developed an obsession with chocolate and cakes! So if this baby turns out to be a porker we'll know why.

Leogaela · 08/12/2004 10:00

Misdee, its good to know you have your family around to support and help you. And well done for not letting dh's health problems put a hold on your lives (are you planning more children after no3???????). Lets hope you manage to get a few good nights of sleep soon as I guess that helps with everything.

Shalaa! How have you managed to put on no weight!!!! I weighed my self this morning and think i have put on about 8 Kg (I think thats about 17 pounds), but I only feel as if it is 2 at the most 3kg of fat! My boobs have grown a huge amount though (must be a couple of extra kilos each!). Aren't you supposed to have put on 80% of the extra weight by the end of the 7th month?

Sweeney - surely best to tell people about the planned work on the building. It should be a positive thing since it is improvements and should push the value of the property up once its finished.

Sex - well I was getting worried because for a while dp went completely off it, wouldn't make the effort to come to bed with me. He tells me I have a lovely bump and he still finds me sexy etc.... but says it feels strange knowing the baby is in there and also he has been stressed..... I still really enjoy it, but when we do do it is definitely different - does it ever go back to how it was before??????

Munchkinsusie, hope the bad mood lifts.

Leogaela · 08/12/2004 10:00

xmas shopping? what's that????

shalaa · 08/12/2004 11:45

I have no idea! Will probably gain it all over Christmas and January knowing me. I had a horrid stomach bug for 2 weeks and lost weight with that, also the panic attacks aren't brilliant for your appetite! Have started eating lots in the past week though so i'm sure i'll make up for it.

Got one of those V shaped Cushions, they are brilliant for backache. Would really recommend them.

Sex?? Ha! What's that? My sex dive took a serious nose dive since finding out i'm pregnant, but you can still have fun doing other 'stuff'

misdee · 08/12/2004 14:55

sex??? your right,. what is it? have never had sex in my life Grin

OP posts:
bonymerryxmas · 08/12/2004 16:17

Munchkinsusie - feel the same way as you about sex - really happy that dh still fancies me (ex-dh went off sex completely as soon as he knew I was pg with dd and never fancied me again! Hence ex!!) and we are still having it about once a week but it's not the same - I just can't seem to relax properly. It's ok though so will persevere as long as possible!! Have really developed pg woman 'waddle" now and can't walk as far/much as I used to - keep thinking I should get more exercise but seems impossible when I get cramps if I walk too much. Hoping to start aquanatal though once I finish work at Xmas.

Leogaela · 08/12/2004 16:31

Bonym, did you try taking magnesium and calcium? I would suggest swimming as exercise but that makes my bump cramp up although not uncomfortable like walking. Also i am doing pregnancy yoga which encourages you to stretch the whole thing out.

Oh! Am I the only one that still enjoys sex???
I really miss being able to have a good close front to front cuddle though.

misdee · 09/12/2004 07:51

i'm gasping for a cup of tea, but cant have one as have to be at the hospital at 8.30 for a GTT, and i'm not allowed to eat/drink till all the tests are done Sad

OP posts:
Pidge · 09/12/2004 09:18

Good luck for the tests misdee - hope everything is straightforward.

On the exercise front - I loved swimming last time round - I used to go once a week, and when on maternity leave in the 3 weeks before dd turned up I went every day. This time I haven't swum once, oh except bobbing about in the little pool with dd hanging on to me! But I am still doing my cycling - I'm just beginning to feel that the bump is getting a bit in the way of my pedalling. Today the babe was giving me a good kick in the ribs as if by way of protestation!

popsycal · 09/12/2004 09:27

Pidge - can' believe you are still riding your bike! I think I would just roll off!!

LoL

misdee · 09/12/2004 12:38

tests were awful. had to have a liver function test done as well as i am very itchey atm. i had a skin reaction the micro pore tape as well. 7 vials of blood altogether. plus i accepted the anti-d injection as well as dd2 is still jumping on me.

have to go back tomorrow for results of liver function test.

OP posts:
Pidge · 09/12/2004 15:10

7 vials - good grief - that's a lot of blood tests. Hope the liver test shows no problems.

Popsycal - I do get very funny looks when I get to the station at the end of my ride and fellow passengers realise that this crazed person with cycle helmet and fluorescant jacket is sporting an enormous bump! You can see them wondering if it's the done thing to give up their seat for me on the train (fortunately there are usually plenty spare).

shalaa · 09/12/2004 15:58

Can't believe i'm almost 28wks pregnant! So weird lying in bed with my hands on my stomach and feeling something rolling around and elbows sticking out! Can still sleep on my back and front which is nice seeing how i'm really really tired now!

ps i'm in Derby where is everyone else??

bonymerryxmas · 09/12/2004 17:58

Poor you misdee - tests sounds rotten - hope results are all ok. Pidge, you are showing us all up with your cycling - it must be keeping you really fit. I'm feeling a bit like an old woman today - had to go to M&S to get a couple of things earlier and was hobbling around because I had a pain in my side and my back was aching! Ho hum, only another 15 weeks to go!

Pidge · 09/12/2004 20:42

Well - mostly the cycling is because it's by far the fastest route to work. My commute is 1hour 15 - 1 hour 30 as it is, and if I didn't cycle I'd have to get two further trains, adding another crucial 20 minutes. That would basically mean I wouldn't see dd at all on my 4 working days. As it is I see her for less than an hour. So me and the bump are going to keep up the biking for as long as possible!

Had our project Christmas lunch today which was a hoot - 14 blokes plus me (oh and two other blokes from the team were missing!). Anyway, meant it was a very lazy end to my working week, and I made up for not drinking by eating LOADS and having an extra large pudding.

Have good weekends one and all.

misdee · 09/12/2004 22:48

Pidge, i also cant belive your still cycling. when do u finish work?

I also had general check up today, the midwife listened to baby heart with the old fashioned trumpet thing, and the baby kicked her!! lol. heartbeat was on the slower side, so maybe its a boy this time lol. dh is starting to feel outnumbered.

OP posts:
Leogaela · 10/12/2004 09:43

Uuurgh Pidge! Your commute sounds a nightmare! It has been miserable cold and foggy in Zürich for weeks (as always in Autumn), but you have just reminded me of one of the main reasons that I came to live here - it takes me around 15 minutes to get to work!!! It used to also take me over an hour in London! Yes, I can put up with the fog for a bit longer!

...snowboarding was another reason I came here, but....!

I too had my general check up this morning. Iron levels are getting too low and the doctor frowned at my 9Kg weight gain (But I am a Kg lighter on my scales at home!!!!). I have to stop eating so much chocolate! We also listened to the heart beat but the baby was moving around too much to hear it for long. The doctor said next check up he will monitor the heartbeat for half an hour to check for any irregularities. Do you have that done in the UK?

How often do you see the midwife in the UK for a general check up?

Misdee can the baby's heart beat really be an indicator of a girl or boy?

Next week I am on holiday (HOOORAY!!!) a week in the mountains relaxing, walking, going to the spa.... I am going to do my best to keep my emotions under control and not feel completely devastated that I am not able to snowboard!
